My brother purchased a new '68 W-30, I bought a used '70 W-30, in 1977. The '70 455, was a beast! I drove it to the track 3 days a week, to school and work every day. It ran low 13's @ 106 MPH, through the mufflers, even with 75000 miles on the engine. All stock with a set of Hooker headers. It weighed in at 3720, with me in it. Best run was 12.98 @ 107 MPH. Great cars.
I'm an avid modeler and I just started watching your videos. Very well done, love everything I've watched. You've inspired me to build even more. I used to build a lot when I was a kid through my teenage years, then I really haven't done much for the last 20 years. Then 2 years ago my Mom bought a new Corvette Z51 (real one). Shortly after she bought it I was browsing through Corvette ideas for a gift for her and I found Revell makes a model kit of the current gen Corvette. I bought it and built it for her for a Christmas present. I went as far as going to the Chevy dealer and ordering a can of genuine GM touch up spray in the correct Corvette Sebring Silver Metallic paint code of her car and carefully cutting the roof off for the removable roof panel (the body plastic cast was molded in red with a solid roof). I realized I loved modeling as much if not more so than I did when I was a kid, partly because I'm so much better at the details and making a neat and clean build (when I was younger I was a bit sloppy with the glue and paint lol). Since I built that I've built a few more and love it. Watching your videos has made me even more enthusiastic...... I've compiled a pretty long list of kits I'm looking forward to and can't wait to buy since I started watching your videos! Thanks again!
7.30 mins into this and you are stunning this kit up to something wonderful......beautiful engine....your best yet....the interior looks excellent......finished job.....wow..your best car to date...you went up another level.....nice,nice,nice.....well done brother....
This is such a great kit. Great build as usual, Chris! And thank you, thank you for correctly referring to this car as a four-four-two and not a four-forty-two! Now, as to that gray body color......:):) Build on!!
Hey Chris! I bought this kit at Hobby Lobby! I didn't Have it too long before someone broke into my house and stole it! I had to order a new one from Hobby link
Nice Job! I love this kit. Sure it's not new, it's not the best, but I have always loved it. One question, did you paint the front inner wheel wells red like they were on the real W-30's? I'm an Olds fanatic but I have to admit leaving them semigloss black on a couple of builds of this kit. I have always thought about building some inner fenders for this kit because I think the wheel wells painted red show off the missing inner fender detail.
AWESOME job!😎👍i did one of those way back in mid 80s! Love that car! One of my favorite, i still have it, i painted mine black with the gold accent and gold wheels inserts. It came out looking great. Nice job.
Great Job, although, the W-30 decal is supposed to go under the 442 badge, and the 455 big block engine is a metallic blue, only the 350 Rocket engines were gold....I'm an Olds guy...Love your channel!!
Good video! I have a question I have built that amt oldsmobile cutlass supreme kit before and what I remember that my kit had from steering, the front wheels can move left to right and I didn't see that in your build kit ! Did it hade it in you just glue them straight? Or that new repop kit don't have position front wheels anymore? Thanks great video God bless
How did you get your hands on that kit when round 2 just air today saying that they are realizing that kit for April but made this video March 14 more less ! Do you have a deal with round 2 to get the kits before it hits the stores? Anyways love you videos always watch them and thanks
very cool I had a friend (RIP) that had one . resent when bought a model from Autoworld store they sent me a sticker of the box art of your model ,and a large MPC sticker
Thanks Danny! This was about 9 hours of actual work over two days. I painted the body right away first day and then let it sit till near the end of all the other building and painting.
I always thought that the 442 always had that 455 big block. Must be the later years. I love that w30 body style. My uncle had a Hurst version. Was really nice.
Nothing specific. You just paint the block color on, then pick out the belts, and other details with a small brush. It's all done by hand with craft paints.
Great job once again. Round2 did good on the quality of it's tires, but calling a tire with Good Year thread a Firestone Wide Oval is odd. I know, I have 1:1 scale Wide Ovals on my Galaxie. AMT has the real deal Wide Oval, what makes it even more odd.
beautiful build, bashed that one with revell monograms convertible 442, between them both built a gorgeous car, have a second, ( didnt ever like the 68 bodystyle but this one is very nice and i might build this one itself
In kit form, it is the same engine. All external dimensions and features are identical for all Olds big block engines, 400, 425 & 455. Also, All small block Olds engines share the same external features and dimensions260, 307, 330, 350, 403. Further, All Olds engines small block and big block share the same exterior features and the dimensions are only slightly different from big block to small block. The big block is 1 inch wider at the intake manifold and 1 inch taller from the crank centerline to intake mounting surface than the small block, that equals 1 mm in 1/25 scale.
Nice work but you should research the REAL cars a bit. Common on the 69 4-4-2 w30 were red front wheel wells that looked really trick! Why a non stock body color??? Great kit!
The cool thing about making a model is that we can make it any way we desire. This idea that a model must be a perfect replica of the real car and the criticism of those who have fun and make a model the way they want to is what is killing this hobby. If you desire perfect factory example models, this will not be the channel for you. The followers of this channel like FUN model reviews that show how the kit goes together and if there are any issues. No one here expects perfection or for my models to be the prime example of how to paint it in factory expert details and I've never claimed they are either.
Hurst editions had a 455. Regular W-30s had the 400. This info is backed up by every source I can find. www.hemmings.com/blog/article/1969-oldsmobile-4-4-2-2/

Don't forget to mention that this is one of the few amt/mpc kits with steerable front wheels. I love this kit!
I do too but I don't like the rims of it the just like hideous

My pleasure!
I've built the Hurst/Olds counterpart to this kit, very nice kit, super enjoyable for my first AMT kit!
Great to hear!
Great review! I purchased this kit recently and cannot wait to get it started. Had your video in my watch later que for a while.
Awesome! Thank you!

I did not paint the fenders red on this build. An oversight on my part.
One detail that gets missed on W-30s, even the full size cars, is that the front inner fender wells are supposed to be red.
AWESOME job!😎👍i did one of those way back in mid 80s! Love that car! One of my favorite, i still have it, i painted mine black with the gold accent and gold wheels inserts. It came out looking great. Nice job.
Thanks, cool!
Looks like a nice kit. May have to grab one. My stepdad almost bought one new when I was a kid. Great job on your finished product brother.
Thanks man!
That is a beautiful build Chris! I had a 1969 Cutlass wagon with a 350 Rocket. Great car. I wish I had it now!! =)
Thanks Kenny!
The 'tree fitty' Rocket was a very well known engine. :)
Another great build bro. Very nice. One of my favorites of the late '60s.
Thank you again Greg!
Great work, as usual. Love the black on black interior. Man ar eyou gonna stick to the seats in the summer!

Hey! Do you know what "442" meant that Year? ( The PERFECT "10"!)
Thank you.
Yes, the wheels can be positioned and left to be movable. The kit is the same now as it was in that aspect. I glued mine into place.
That's an amazing build I never knew Gray could look so good as a musclecar color
Thanks Jimmy!

It's in stock. Link is in the description as detailed in the review. Thanks for watching. :)
very cool I had a friend (RIP) that had one .
resent when bought a model from Autoworld store they sent me a sticker of the box art of your model ,and a large MPC sticker
Very cool, nice to get some freebies tossed in.
How the hell do you glue the body on the chassis I can’t figure out how it goes in there and can’t find anything online
Nice kit, very nice build looks awesome. Curious how long does it take you to complete a model like this?
Thanks Danny!
This was about 9 hours of actual work over two days.
I painted the body right away first day and then let it sit till near the end of all the other building and painting.
Those were real cars for real dudes. Very nice work.
Thank you Charlie!
I always thought that the 442 always had that 455 big block. Must be the later years. I love that w30 body style. My uncle had a Hurst version. Was really nice.
Awesome job on an awesome kit from the 80's! Just for future reference, all Olds 400's were bronze in color, only the rocket 350's were gold.
Thanks! I tried to get a color off my shelf as close as I could, should have added a bit more to make it darker.
Looks like another must have Chris...Great video and review. Thanks for sharing...
Thank you Mike, much appreciated. :)
Awesome i love the Oldsmobile cars!!!!
Oh wow! Now I'm excited. Thank you. I'm definitely going to be adding that to my collection now. 😀
Enjoy, you'll have fun with it.
WOW ! Fantastic Build i'm a Mopar Guy by Heart but Olds put out some nice rides
Thanks Charles!
Another fantastic build. Amazingly awesome
Thank you sir!
Very nice build. Love this car. You mention doing a silver paint pencil technique at 8:37. Do you have a how to on this technique?
I've done it on some other builds, I think most recently the 1940 Ford.
What a Beautiful Car. Nice Job on the Build.
Thank you Jesse!
Great review and build Chris, another must have for the stash. Cheers
Thanks Wayne!
Do you have any videos that go into detail on hoe you paint your engines?
Nothing specific. You just paint the block color on, then pick out the belts, and other details with a small brush. It's all done by hand with craft paints.
I might have to go back to Hobby Lobby just up the road to pick up this kit. I saw this kit on sale just the other day.
Nice! Enjoy!
Your welcome! Is that Car still available?
This specific kit just came out this week. AMT reissued it.
Thanks for the compliment!
Nice review Chris turned out sweet nice color
Thanks Jeff!
Awesome review man, I just got one of this oldies relies of that kit, looks like is going to be a great project for me, thanks for sharing bro...

Great review and build from beginning to end. Well done.
Thanks Mike!
beautiful build, bashed that one with revell monograms convertible 442, between them both built a gorgeous car, have a second, ( didnt ever like the 68 bodystyle but this one is very nice and i might build this one itself
paint those wheels however you like em
molotow, where do you find that, see sharpies all over, not fond of them for models although i like them for drawing cars,
Molotow pens can be found at Modelroundup.com or many craft stores.
What are you using as a parts cleaner?
See my painting with cheap spray cans video.
So cool, wish I could get those sweet slicks
It's a great kit, pick it up!
hpiguys Workshop I Will, if you wanna text me, my number is 608 617 6248

Hopefully my Hobby will have it!
Mine is from 1980
Bought for $6.00.
What a deal
how long do u let the body color paint dry?
About a day, 24 hours or so.
@@hpiguy do you wear gloves when u handle it to protect the paint? i have to,no matter how long the paint has dried.
Gorgeous Grey~ Nice Choice!
Thanks Jamie!
Great Video.
Thanks much!
how do you get rustolium and krylon to lay smooth and not wrinkle the plastic
Never had an issue with it hurting plastic, most of Rustoleum's sprays say plastic safe on them.
hpiguys Workshop will testors and model masters lay over top without issues
I would try it on some scrap first. They might react and ruin the base coat.
I am building this car right now
nice looks like it shares a lot of parts with the hurst olds except the engine for it was a 455
Thanks Gene, yeah, nearly the same car so a lot would be similar.

well i have my dream car now lol.....what a beast.....
Nice build! God bless
Thanks!
I think...somewhere in a box, I have an old Jo-Han Olds 442 kit. This would be much more fun, though.
Save the classic, buy the new one, best of both worlds.
Good job
Thanks!
Love it
Thanks Jon!
nice one !!
Thanks Rik!

Thanks!
😱 👍👍👍
Thanks Ennis!

Nice review Chris, this is what me motivated to build mine. Check mine out if you like. Thanks again for the inspiration. KUTGW buddy.
Thanks, will do!
