Which Mic is Best for Fast Rides? DJI Mic 2 vs. RODE Wireless PRO
I put the DJI Mic, the DJI Mic 2 (pre and post-update), and the RODE Wireless Pro, head to head to see which sounds the best. My use case is very challenging, because at 20 mph, wind noise is inevitable. If you record ESK8, motorcycle, or PEV videos, you'll want a mic that can perform when you're traveling at high speeds. I tested these mics while riding my Onewheel.
Affiliate links for the mics are below:
Cheapest Mic: amzn.to/4fQBNaI
Middle Price: amzn.to/3WIojF6
Most Expensive (but my favorite): amzn.to/46Pj0rU
The DJI Mic 2 was updated on 08/09/2024, and I installed the update to see if the sound quality was meaningfully improved. And after the update, is the sound quality competitive agai...

For the price of a Onewheel GT S Series, I could have purchased a used car. But the more I use it and reflect on that decision, I feel like the S Series is the right vehicle for navigating the busy city I live in. In this video, I'm headed to an appointment across town, that is supposed to take 22 minutes for a bike or 18 minutes for a car. The GT S got me there in only… well I won't spoil it. ...

      @pksteffen do practice rides with the ME to learn to set your gain levels properly before you start working on anything important. I went with the PRO so that I had dummy proof audio recording. I’ve destroyed videos with bad audio levels in the past. Also note that the ME doesn’t support onboard recording. If I were buying a mic with no onboard recording, I’d get the Hollyland Lark M2.

    Totally agree that the waterproofing should have easily handled your careful avoidance of water. And then the water somehow got into all three areas? I'm skeptical unless it was submerged! My GT handled water really well, so now I'm considering Badgering my GTS if it's handling water so poorly. 😕 ps, the Rode sounded warmer, and better at lower speeds, but the DJI did much better with wind noise. (To my ears)

    • @followdon
      @followdon 8 дней назад

      I agree with your assessment of the mics and badgering seems to be a huge peace of mind upgrade considering the cost of the kit vs. the bill you’d get for water damage from Future Motion.

    DJI Mic 2 (before update) seems so muffled maybe because of noise cancelling? But after update it's A LOT better. Rode 2 seems clearer but a lot of wind.

    • @followdon
      @followdon 9 дней назад

      I agree with your opinion about the sound! I did not enable noise cancelling on the DJI Mic 2 before the update. The release notes for the update indicate that it is an EQ change to "optimize for fuller and brighter sound," hence the difference we heard. I've actually done this test a few times, and the RODE wind screen and attenuation clearly doesn't perform as well as DJI's.

    @cssari 11 дней назад

    Not on the mic topic but on your GTS: So were you riding it in rain after all? Was it badgered? FM changing the controller, battery and the motor as well sounds a bit excessive. But I am happy that in the process at least you are getting the 6in hub and also looking forward for your range test video.

    • @followdon
      @followdon 11 дней назад

      My board was not badgered. I really wish FM would do that type of thing at the factory. Disassembling a new board to badger it as soon as you get it isn’t easy work for everyone. I don’t ride through puddles and I avoid riding on rainy days. I’ve been caught in flash rainstorms on the GT-S Series maybe twice. I always let the board dry before plugging it in. And the last rainstorm I remember before the board actually died was more than a month and a half ago. I understand water can cause a slow death to electronics, and though I probably should have asked for proof from FM that water got in, I didn’t. It’s probably best that all the components are replaced because we’re trusting the board to do its job with our lives.

    • @cssari
      @cssari 11 дней назад

      @@followdon ya if it not bagered then water might have got in and slowly corroded components. I 100% agree with you that FM should be waterproofing from factory. I personally did that with my GT after like 100mi and just after a short testride with my GTS but I can understand that not everybody is keen to take a brand new board apart to do so. Well the good side of this that you will have an almost new GTS then especially battery wise.

    • @followdon
      @followdon 11 дней назад

      @cssari yes. Definitely focusing on the bright side. I’ll be excited to have more sidewall on the tire too with the smaller hub. I would have added the Recurve rails, but that costs an additional $450 and I’d need a new fender on top of that. Maybe for the next board release I’ll buy Recurve from the factory.

    • @cssari
      @cssari 11 дней назад

      @@followdon I assume it's late anyway but if you have the Hybrid fender then you only need the recurve fender delete for $50 (FM selling it separately) and you can reuse the dome. But the new hub going to be a huge gamechanger even in a city environment.

      You’ll enjoy your miles more on the GTSR than the standard GT. It’s also worth noting that in the beginning, you’ll get more miles in total from the GT. After riding over 4,600 miles on the GT, I get less range out of the battery and feel less confident that the board won’t drop me. It’s sad to think that, in the future, I will get fewer miles on the GT S-Series battery than I do now. How much miles did you get on Pint before you were comfortable riding with traffic on road?

    • @followdon
      @followdon Месяц назад

      I did low stakes rides for about a week before I started commuting. I didn’t have anyone to teach me and I failed and fell a lot in the beginning. If you have local experienced riders willing to teach, it can dramatically reduce your learning curve. Did you recently buy a Pint?

    • @TomBabula
      @TomBabula Месяц назад

      @@followdon yeah I got pint x in first week of June. Got in 134 miles in. Practiced riding first few weeks in a large parking lot and some bike trails, learning to carve and overcome foot fatigue. I still take many short breaks but I can now stay longer on on the board. Stretching my calves before ride helps a bit.

    • @followdon
      @followdon 29 дней назад

      @TomBabula A couple things that might help: Don’t try to grip the board with your toes curling inside of your shoes. It doesn’t help any. Maybe I’m the only one who did that as a beginner 😅 You’re only responsible for heel toe balance, not front to back footpad balance. Make small intentional smooth movements and not jerky ones. Keep your center of gravity over the tire and accelerate with your hips. You can even use the weight of your arms. But avoid moving your upper body too far over your hips in either direction. That is to say, don’t lean. And no need to start commuting before you’re ready! Move at your own pace. Wear your safety gear. I’m still in a helmet on every ride to this day!

    • @TomBabula
      @TomBabula 29 дней назад

      @@followdonyeah I used to do that curling toe thing too. Often unintentionally in the beginning. First few days I was too scared to mount on the board. Then next few days initial ride. Now it’s no big deal and think of it as “mount forward” instead of “mount up”. Changing shoes to Vans Skate and figuring out stance helped immensely. I think it was just a matter of building stabilizer muscles since I never did skateboarding or snowboarding in my life before. 😊

      The footpad technology is the same, so you’d experience the same on the GT S. You may need to be more conscious of distributing weight on your front footpad to counteract that. Also, in Custom Shaping, you can try Single Zone Activation and max out Jump Reengagement Time to give you more time to adjust your front foot on the sensor.

    Nice video with the different viewpoints. I have watched lots of your vids for the OW content. I have ridden thousands of miles and own an S series, 3 GTs, both pint and pint X and also an XR. I would say that I’m pretty experienced and i mostly ride trails. I definitely change all my settings in custom. I like full braking aggressiveness, +2 on aggressiveness and dynamic, and also have turn comp and gradient tracking on. The S series is so amazing for people like me who pushed the GT to the max.

      @followdon 2 месяца назад

      Thank you for watching this video and others and for sharing your settings. You have an impressive quiver of boards. I might try your flavor of custom to see how it rides. I too am someone who pushed the GT to the max. My weight was probably a contributing factor. The GT S-Series feels like a much better ride for me with way more headroom. Over the years I’ve owned the Pint, XR, GT, and GT S. I’ve only kept my GT and GT S-Series, but I rarely ride my GT.
