@@followdon If I lose too much more weight, I’ll die. Haha. 6’0” 171 lbs and I should be getting more than 11.4 miles per charge. I did just take it to the grocery store (which had a good amount of uphill - 160 ft) and was on pace for 17.14 miles so that’s a better start.
I probably see Javier 40% of the time I'm out on the Mall ha ha. Someone is always at the Washington or Lincoln Monument that I know. It's been a while on the board though. Thanks @followdon for the great video!
How long did it take you to build up to being able to ride 6.2 miles straight? I’ve been away from board sports for some time after and Achilles injury. Just got my onewheel gT this week. Longest ride so far 3.5miles. trying to go a little further each day. My legs are jello. 6ft 195lbs, and posture or stance recommendations?
I ride with a pretty wide stance. My feet are relaxed on the pad. In the beginning I used to grip the foot pads with my toes which was totally unnecessary and caused foot fatigue. I keep my center of gravity over the tire and control the speed with subtle shifts in weight. I will use my arms in front to pick up speed rather than lean forward. My stance forms a “V” typically. Once I’m moving, I’m always ready to slightly lean back to brake. Getting low helps when rolling over obstacles. You can always stop and rest at traffic lights.
Im 6'3 / 245 and I get 6 miles out of my pint. I wonder if you got a bum board. I am planning on getting the GTSR in Nov during black friday. This gives me pause, make me wonder if I just need a GT.
You’ll enjoy your miles more on the GTSR than the standard GT. It’s also worth noting that in the beginning, you’ll get more miles in total from the GT. After riding over 4,600 miles on the GT, I get less range out of the battery and feel less confident that the board won’t drop me. It’s sad to think that, in the future, I will get fewer miles on the GT S-Series battery than I do now. Perhaps by the time that happens, someone will offer a long range modular option for the GT S battery.
@followdon Thanks for the info. I don't use it for transportation, so even 12 would be double what I'm getting now. I have to ride very cautiously on any inclines. I rode a GT and it felt like a racecar. Looking forward to the gtsr upgrade of not having anxiety over hills or bumps of getting dumped from lack of power.
Dang!!! I got about 8 miles on my $750 pint with some battery to spare. Would’ve thought they’d parallel the battery pack instead of just making a high volt board.
@MrDmadness you know way more about that than me. I tried a VESC build and that opened my eyes to how many micro-decisions Future Motion makes for us. Video on that coming soon.
Have you gotten the Kush-wide/ Air-pad from craft & ride? I think for size 12th feet they helps a lot. I would pick air-pad because of comfier ride. But if your ride trail and want more lock-in feeling Kush wide does better.
I haven’t tried any of those. I did have a Kush low back in my Pint days. For the GT-series boards, I’ve only tried the footpads I mentioned. I do like the idea of the footpads that flair out for larger feet. In general, I’m a keep it simple type of rider. I don’t go crazy accessorizing the board or installing new rails. Thanks for the recommendation for the AirPad!
Really like the format of the video, the voice over is very much appreciated. I like it when someone walk me through/talk while the background visual happening.
@@followdon Anytime. I thought you will like it. I didn't regret my purchase. If your backfeet is not hurting for long commute, then there is no need for footpad changes.
I'm 230 more or less. I'd recommend upping the tire pressure. At 30 PSI, I always get awesome range. Does it suck with high PSI? yes, it is more bumpy, but we be big guys man.... got up that PSI. At 30 PSI I can easily get 15 miles on an XR with battery to spare. I live in the mid-west and have noticed that the boards don't really have significant battery reduction until around 40 F or lower. BTw, I got an evolve hadeon bamboo all terain for just under $1800. I get 30 + mile range and can hit 20 MPH easily. It can hit 30 MPH but I have it capped at 20. I didn't have to modify anything. Its slightly different from onewheels but honestly it feels safer....I haul @$$ and you can't nosedive. Bumps and little jumps no longer scare the hell out of me if I don't see them.
Personally, I ride at around 27.5 PSI. If I need more range for a ride, I might try to up it to 30 PSI. One of the electric skateboard brands wanted me to do a video in exchange for a board, but I’m not personally interested in that form factor. But 30 mph and 30 mile range sounds awesome!
I’m trying to find them online but can’t. I bought them in a store called “Somewhere” in DC. They are New Balance shoes. The closest comps I could find were the “327”s. But those are women’s shoes only on their site.
It’s the Unit 1 Torch backpack. You can save 20 percent and support the channel if you use code: FOLLOWDON at checkout if you choose to buy one. You can find it at unit1gear.com.
Sounds like the trail demands a lot from the battery. I wonder how the range estimates were made. I thought I’d get better than 14 miles range riding street.
I agree with you. For the GT S-Series, sometimes I confuse it with the natural vibration from the treaded tire though. If I have headphones in, I don’t always hear it.
Volts is not electron flow ( what moves you ) its electrical pressure. You need this pressure to start motion in an inductive circuit. once its rolling however AMPS are the actual flow. Why do i mention this ? Because you dont need 120volts to work, its doing nothing and just costing you range. Futuremotion boards are frying themselves because their gts are not utilizing any safety factor in the sizing of the components like caps and mossfets ( in this case safety factor referring totge circuits ability to handle excessive load without melting down) more voltage ( pressure) also increases arc potential.
@@followdon most companys use mossfets and caps capable of 30% more than the MAXIMUM peak voltage possublle in use. This means that there is no possiblle way for failure of the components as the balance leads are now the weakest component in the circuit
@@followdon not safety, no. Its called a safety factor in the same way you add 60% load to a calculation involving a rope or cable becase you want to KNOW it will not fail in use. Actually, now i think about it.... yes, they have not included a safety margin
Just sub'd. Great video. I am trading in my broken GT towards a GTS and I'm selling my XR to buy another GT. I want the power and I want the range. I am 6'4" 205 and I'm interested to see what range I can get on the GTS. If I could get 16 miles it would be more than enough for most all of my rides.
I'll give you my thesis ahead of posting my next video (in which I planned to share this). The GT S-Series, post the Gradient Tracking update, has widened the ride-experience gap over the GT. It’s an even smoother ride now. If you own both boards, you won’t want to ride the GT. Even though you’ll have more range, you’re riding more miles with an objectively worse ride experience. If you’re riding with friends, maybe this is tolerable. Or perhaps, if the range is necessary for a commute, same idea. But the quality of ride is unquestionably better on the GT S-Series. I’m contemplating selling my GT.
Same. But I opened up a thread on Reddit asking people what range they get. Most get at least the advertised range, but most riders are lighter than me.
@latin64joker I think they almost universally over-quoted the range you can expect, but I’ve seen some people on Reddit mention they got the advertised mileage. In most of my daily use, it’s enough range.
Thanks for checking it out, Gyasi. This was a long one to watch if Onewheel isn’t your thing. You’ll have to visit soon though and you should try riding through the city with me.
Yeah I'm a 210 lb Rider running at 15 psi and it looks like I can get about 16 mi out of a charge. That's with some nice hill climbs. I'm sure if I stayed on nothing but flats and increase my PSI up to 20 I could improve that. I do live in San Diego so weather conditions are pretty optimal
Some who have commented said they get 20 miles of range, and others end up on the lower end. I also asked on Reddit, and there is a wide variance in the answers. Most often, I ride for errands, and the 14 miles is enough. But I definitely would have liked to have more range!
@davemicah3086 if I’m averaging 10mph, I may as well own a Pint X. For me, one of the appeals of the GT S-Series is the top speed and stability at 18 miles per hour and up.
@@followdon I ride at 13psi which is kinda low and it’s pretty hilly as well. I ride close to or at pushback the majority of the ride. I love the GTS. Carving at 20+mph and feeling completely stable, ummm, all the way enjoying it.
@myrap8you love to hear it. I like to push the higher speeds while carving as well. The board spoils you with that power. I hit 26.1 on accident today.
I did a follow up range test. Seems like the speed you travel is more important than many of the other factors. The video is called warm weather range test (or something like that) on my channel!
I'm so sorry that anybody is buying those boards: poor range and poor topspeed compared to Floatwheel and VESC+ higher cost... What is exactly the advantage again?
Jeff from @thefloatlife gave the best rundown on the pros and cons of Floatwheel VESC and FM. We need more VESC creators out there to show us normies the light!
Don't worry bro: I haven't even VESC my XR but I definitely will! I see more people or companies starting to do full VESC kits so that noons like us can do it! 😂 it's pretty cool!
@@followdon GT. No, pretty new. 300 miles. I’m balancing the cells as we speak. I also took apart the foot pad after this and got glued the battery and sensor plugs in case I had a loose connection. We’ll see. Still love her
@mikehiggins5682 when you can’t trust the battery meter, that makes the anxiety even worse! I hope you can get the cells rebalanced and get more out of your battery.
That range sucks! I just watched a video, and he got 20 miles, on mostly city ride. You, cant get 16? WTF! I really am torn about trading in my GT for a GT-s...Now, you said it was cold...so maybe temperature decreases range/battery life? Plus, what was your average speed? Also, hate I can't run my WTF rails on a GTS ...Id like to see a video of how much range 10% batter gives you...Thanks!
I just went out on another ride with weather in the high 60’s. I didn’t make it home without a walk of shame. My battery gave up while the app reported I had 10 percent left. The ride had a lot of steep hills. I pumped up the Gradient Tracking settings and the board powered up them (at slow but consistent speeds). I’d love to have a board with GT S-Series power and slightly better range.
The mileage is actually working out to be enough for 99.9 percent of my rides. I think it just hurts to lose so many miles when you spend so much. What is your top speed on the Pint? I’d be terrified to go faster than what I’ve done so far. My current top speed is 26.1 miles per hour without a crash or nosedive.
$3000+ for a something that get 16 -20 miles range??? Quite expensive don't you think? Also those Range estimate are usually done at 9 - 10 mph. If you are going 15-20 mph you ain't getting that range. Have to read the fine print. Just get a Electric Unicycle (EUC). You will get way more speed, about 10x more range and it way more fun than a Onewheel...and less expensive...$3000+ on a EUC will get you about 60 mph and over 100 miles range per charge. My EUC cost less than $2000 and I get 90 miles range and can go 45+ mph...way more bang for your buck than the Onewheel
That is a wild difference! I don’t have the budget for a new PEV right now, but it would be nice to have an EUC in the stable. A few weeks into owning the board and I’m realizing I don’t need a ton of range most days. And if I’m going any faster than 30 miles per hour, I’ll need a new class of safety gear. Your EUC sounds awesome though! Which model do you have?
I hope it will get better when the weather gets warmer. It's a fun board to ride, but I wasn't as blown away as I thought I would be upgrading from the GT.
This is pretty disappointing. Didn’t even get the lower end of their range estimate. No excuse from FM. This product should have had the same battery of the GT. Feels like a major downgrade.
Range is super important to me and it was a bit of a letdown in that respect, especially considering the premium price. The ride experience itself is nice. It isn’t life changing to me, but it’s my preferred board to grab. And in many everyday scenarios, the limited range I get is enough for a simple round trip.
Ridicule!
@mickaelmendes4513 yes. I wasn’t aware of the Floatwheel at the time that I ordered. Tony has since been active in my RUclips algorithm. Maybe next time.
In fairness bro, you are charging it the entire time and nearly side swiping pedestrians with literally no bell or warning for them. Get a finger finger or slow the hell down. You're giving the sport a bad name doing that. People don't like that and it's not safe. What's to say people couldn't trip in front of you? How about step to the left or to the right to answer a text message unexpectedly? You never should be going that fast next to people. It's extremely disrespectful and unsafe.
Thanks for your feedback! Please check out my warm weather range test video and let me know how I’m doing now. I’ll look into getting a finger dinger. In the new video, I added multi-view in a couple of spots so you can see my perspective. Not to defend fast riding, but I’m planning far ahead when passing, and I’m watching what the pedestrians are doing many yards in advance.

That sounds much better than what you said before!@@fixmypev
I probably see Javier 40% of the time I'm out on the Mall ha ha. Someone is always at the Washington or Lincoln Monument that I know. It's been a while on the board though. Thanks @followdon for the great video!
@@followdon Let's hope it stays that way!
You can always stop and rest at traffic lights.
carving will help with foot fatigue more than anything... keep carving. ;-)
Good point. Learning to shift your feet on the board while riding can also relieve pressure-based pain on your feet.
That would have been nice. The board would likely be heavier. You probably weigh less than me, so maybe you could get at least 16 miles on the GT S.
A series parallel configuration would have been a much better idea than a bus converter to bump up the voltage.. voltage is not electron flow
Cool stuff very futuristic dc is a very nice looking city i live in Baltimore lol.
There are Baltimore-based riders that visit for group rides. Come join us sometime if you can. Thanks for watching!
@@followdon for sure but I enjoyed watching you alone more tbh the big group looks a little boring they go so slow.
@SK8orDIE768 that’s true. Group rides tend to be slow. Maybe I’ll try to ride with the EUC crowd one day 😅
What is your tires PSI
24.5 PSI
But 30 mph and 30 mile range sounds awesome!
what are your shoes?
I’m trying to find them online but can’t. I bought them in a store called “Somewhere” in DC. They are New Balance shoes. The closest comps I could find were the “327”s. But those are women’s shoes only on their site.
@@followdon thanks brother great channel
@meettheconmux thank you!
I'll have to wait a few minutes to start watching. I don't think I can watch you disappoint your mother again running those red lights 🤣.
I am so sorry that I had to re-upload, and thanks for watching again @oldretireddude!
I manage to get over 20 miles easily with my XR, however im 150 and in florida, it doesnt get cold
Stock battery or aftermarket? 20 miles is really good. You’d likely get more on a newer board.
@followdon my xr barely has a hundred miles on it, but per charge, I average like 21-22 stock
What backpack is that to light up?
It’s the Unit 1 Torch backpack. You can save 20 percent and support the channel if you use code: FOLLOWDON at checkout if you choose to buy one. You can find it at unit1gear.com.
@@followdon thank you!!
Of course!
I get around 11 miles on my two GTS boards riding trails
Sounds like the trail demands a lot from the battery. I wonder how the range estimates were made. I thought I’d get better than 14 miles range riding street.
I actually like the haptic buzz. Kind of a scary foot massage 🫠
This is a helpful explanation. I’ve heard the mossfets are commonly criticized.
@@followdon most companys use mossfets and caps capable of 30% more than the MAXIMUM peak voltage possublle in use. This means that there is no possiblle way for failure of the components as the balance leads are now the weakest component in the circuit
@MrDmadness okay, so FM isn’t providing enough safety margins with theirs is what you’re saying?
@@followdon not safety, no. Its called a safety factor in the same way you add 60% load to a calculation involving a rope or cable becase you want to KNOW it will not fail in use. Actually, now i think about it.... yes, they have not included a safety margin
Thanks for explaining!
Thank you for subscribing and I’m glad you enjoyed the video!
*Say whaaaaaat ?* Thanks for the real world headsUP on GTS range. I had higher hopes.
Same. But I opened up a thread on Reddit asking people what range they get. Most get at least the advertised range, but most riders are lighter than me.
@@followdon how much do I weigh if u don’t mind me asking
@latin64joker I weigh around 240 pounds (~109 kilograms) on average.
@@followdon I seen someone say they got 16 miles and they weigh 155. Kinda weird
@latin64joker I think they almost universally over-quoted the range you can expect, but I’ve seen some people on Reddit mention they got the advertised mileage. In most of my daily use, it’s enough range.
I enjoy this video so much. ( I like the original better, though I may not be in your target audience)
Tire Pressure, Weight, Speed, Terrain. Those are your factors. Try to average 10mph at 20psi, I bet you get 18-20. @@followdon
@davemicah3086 if I’m averaging 10mph, I may as well own a Pint X. For me, one of the appeals of the GT S-Series is the top speed and stability at 18 miles per hour and up.
Going the same speed or even higher on my gt I get 2.5 miles in the first 10 percent
How many miles do you have on your GT?
@@followdon 2609
I’m 5’7” and 165lbs and I get 13-14 miles on the GTS.
That seems low for your weight. There must be other factors at play. Are you enjoying the board?
@@followdon I ride at 13psi which is kinda low and it’s pretty hilly as well. I ride close to or at pushback the majority of the ride. I love the GTS. Carving at 20+mph and feeling completely stable, ummm, all the way enjoying it.
@myrap8you love to hear it. I like to push the higher speeds while carving as well. The board spoils you with that power. I hit 26.1 on accident today.
It has to be the weight. Under advertised 16 miles on street is disappointing to say the least. I am 160lbs though.
@sylrider I’m excited for more innovation in the space!
walk of shame for me tonight at 11%😩
Which board was it? Older battery?
@@followdon GT. No, pretty new. 300 miles. I’m balancing the cells as we speak. I also took apart the foot pad after this and got glued the battery and sensor plugs in case I had a loose connection. We’ll see. Still love her
@demonhogo definitely! Love my GT too!
Yea my gt dies at like 25-30% every time. 1300 miles on her
@mikehiggins5682 when you can’t trust the battery meter, that makes the anxiety even worse! I hope you can get the cells rebalanced and get more out of your battery.
I’m 225 and got 16 miles before it officially died.
That’s as good as advertised! On the low end.
Lithium operates best at 72f above or below that it reduces range output
Send back and . Probably bad battery
I doubt they’ll take it back. It would be nice if the app gave you more info about the battery cells and their health though.
as a pint owner 8 miles at half sounds amazing, funny my top speed is higher than ur gts too haha wtf
I have the GT S and I get 20 miles out of it
I envy your range, but I’m also happy for you!
That kinda sucks. You were even riding mostly flat land.
@@followdon Wouldn't the poor range be also explain by the cold temperatures?
@Mowguli yes. The weather was in the mid 40s to low 50s during this ride. I’m looking forward to testing again in the spring.
Ridicule!
FFM
I’ll release a video with my updated thoughts. I would like to have more range for sure, but I find myself riding my GT S much more than my GT.
@@followdon I understand for the torque 🙂 buy an adv and you will get big torque and range(36 miles constructor data)for less 2000 dollars
@mickaelmendes4513 yes. I wasn’t aware of the Floatwheel at the time that I ordered. Tony has since been active in my RUclips algorithm. Maybe next time.
you'll be very happy@@followdon
In fairness bro, you are charging it the entire time and nearly side swiping pedestrians with literally no bell or warning for them. Get a finger finger or slow the hell down. You're giving the sport a bad name doing that. People don't like that and it's not safe. What's to say people couldn't trip in front of you? How about step to the left or to the right to answer a text message unexpectedly? You never should be going that fast next to people. It's extremely disrespectful and unsafe.
*finger dinger
Thanks for your feedback! Please check out my warm weather range test video and let me know how I’m doing now. I’ll look into getting a finger dinger.
In the new video, I added multi-view in a couple of spots so you can see my perspective. Not to defend fast riding, but I’m planning far ahead when passing, and I’m watching what the pedestrians are doing many yards in advance.
Walk of shame sucks!
It definitely sucks! I’m glad I know what ballpark range to expect so I know whether I’ll need to carry my charger or just take my GT instead.
That range is atrocious.
Considering the cost, I agree. It’s just enough for most of the rides that I do though.
