Bro. Loved the way you did this review! I just got a GT (upgrade from OG Pint) and I’m loving the crazy range - plus going 20 MPH is fast enough for me. I haven’t hit haptic buzz yet, so it just all around feels like a safe board to ride.
Good choice! The GT-S Series feels disappointing in the range department, but it’s a nice ride. I don’t think it’s good to have as your only board if you rely on it for commuting and exploring. I went to a bike party yesterday and had to go home early to charge my wheel.
Love the reality of this video (when we’re in a hurry, everything’s a “come on, bro…” moment haha)! Based on your battery usage on the way to your barber, you’d have gotten about 9.64 miles if you had used a full battery at that pace. Based on how you rode on the way back, you brought your total usage estimate up to about 12.44 miles on a full battery (you must have been more casual or aerodynamic on the way back haha). At 171 lbs, I’ve been averaging about 11.4 miles per full charge over my first 5 cycles, but that’s been a series of smaller rides rather than one official range test. Hoping to see my number come up a bit when I do a real full ride. If it doesn’t, it might be back to the OG GT for me (I’d rather have range than torque). Keep it up, Don! 🤙🏼⚡️💯
I appreciate this, man! You’re exactly right. On the way back I was far more casual and I took different routes just to extend the ride. I just completed a full range test from 100 down to 10 percent of the battery exploring the DC monuments. With that ride, I still ended up getting less than the 16 mph advertised range. I wasn’t riding with any sense of urgency - just riding in the way that I like to. I upgraded to the GT from the XR, and besides the higher stable top speed, I loved the leave your charger at home range. It seems like going from GT to GT S, I have to be more range and battery sensitive again. I’m going to do a similar ride on the GT to see what type of range I get on a 2 year old battery.
You are much calmer here than I expected based off of the fiasco with the GT repair that you shared with us in OW discord haha. Glad at least you have a reliable board in the GT-S!
Life has been throwing some challenges my way, but I would much rather respond calmly and decisively than get down in the dumps about it. I’m not happy about all the money I’ve had to spend to get back to having reliable transportation. And I plan to make a video that talks about this repair experience. It's wild to see @ThatsGinterEV also had a fried motor plug. It seems to be a part that Future Motion needs to re-engineer.
Right there with you on the calm thing. Things don't always work out...what's done is done, my brain is already working on what to do next instead of dwelling on something that's already happened. 🤙🏼
Cool vid man, great to see how much battery you got left when arriving to your barber spot. I have a XR with an upgraded battery, I had a nose dive going 25.6 miles and hour and couldn't run it out so ended up getting a broken clavicle and metacarpal of my hand. not fun at all but still that time I was pushing the board to it's limits and that was the result of that night lol fun riding these beasts, XR to me is everything but there's always a board for everyone .... keep stoking !!!
Wow! Glad you were able to bounce back and keep riding. I don’t know anyone who is running out a 25+ mile an hour nosedive. The XR is a fun and amazing board. I’m interested to hear what you’d think of the GT-S if you get a chance to ride it!
@@followdon no doubt Don , I’m back to riding but lately I’ve been super busy with work but soon I’ll get back to riding a lot more, and most definitely I’d love to try it out, it for sure seems to be a different type of beast indeed 💪🏼 Enjoy the stoke Don 💥
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'm going to test the range vs. speed on the GT and GT-S heading to Lincoln Memorial and back. I'll be sure to post that here. If I'd need to charge at the halfway point, I'm sure the GT would win!
Bruh, you weigh 237 pounds AND rode it down to 14%?!?!?! That's a great testimony to the board. I'm 135 pounds and on hills am wary with the GT at 50%. Nosedives are terrible, so my NUMBER ONE piece of advice for fellow riders is to keep an eye on their app and battery percentage to know their safety zone for the board nose diving at low power. Thanks for the video.
That’s good advice! I’m definitely enjoying the board. I will make a video with my updated thoughts soon. What’s funny is I didn’t worry much about nosedives on the GT. As an upgrade from the XR, the ceiling for performance felt much higher. The board felt more stable. The GT S is definitely another big leap in performance and safety. But I don’t get as much range. The good thing is, I find that most of my round trips don’t require more than what the GT S gives me. I’ve only had one walk of shame experience so far on a multi-segment trip.
Definitely liked the format! Would love more range and speed test comparison between boards like XR, GT, GRS, VESC, Floatwheel! Thank you, I just subscribed to your channel!
Thanks for subscribing. I’ll have to recruit some local riders that own a few of those boards, but I like that idea! I’m definitely interested in Floatwheel now.
Once you’re going 25, you don’t feel like you’re going 25 unless the terrain is sketchy. I like having haptic buzz as a marker for that speed so that I don’t have to look at my phone to know I hit it.
If you do you have to let me know! I’ll come hang for that group ride. I went to a bike party yesterday and had to leave early. Partly because I was ready to leave and partly because the GT-S didn’t have enough range to continue.
You riding through Home Depot reminds me of the times when I would ride a skateboard through a local grocery store Plaza. I felt like a hoodlum, but watching you with your one wheel makes me think about how classy you are compared to 13 year old me on a skateboard 😂 I’m glad for your safety. Picking up that kind of speed is definitely no joke. You have a helmet, but I would want some elbow and kneepads hahaha
Skateboarders are the coolest. Though I’m sure you were no hoodlum, I hope in my old age I don’t present like a 13-year-old 😂 Whenever I have a new board, I have to give it time and find out how it will treat me before I push it. I’m afraid I’m going to hedonically adapt to riding 23-25 miles per hour soon 🫣 Though I have 10,000+ miles of Onewheel experience, I might need extra safety gear for this one.
Thanks, man! Most rides are planned on Facebook or Telegram. Check out this resource I made that will help you find the right groups. ginger-zenobia-198.notion.site/Onewheel-DMV-Resources-4656845afa874da990a43f07166a18f5
Seems like your GT issues were tied directly to the firmware update… but not covered by FM which is frustrating. On a positive note, glad to see you ripping the GTS
I'm curious to see if more riders start having an issue after the firmware update. First it was @ThatsGinterEV, then me. I’m not sure if he updated though. The GT-S Series has been fun, but I’m a little worried that range anxiety will be an issue. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@followdon he didn’t update because he wants ability to level board. A local in Boston had a capacitor blow a week after the update and I’ve seen a few more like that. The timing is suspicious on all these. Like having the ability to increase aggressiveness is drawing power right on the limits of the hardware.
Followdon, love your content... While you're riding at those faster speeds on the GT-S, gotta have those wrist protectors. Ride safe bro. Thanks for the content.
Hey Don... just stumbled on your videos. Nicely done vid! I'm in DC and just picked up a Pint X. Other than the MBT - what are some of the best places to ride in DC? Are there any rider groups that meet up in DC?
Welcome to DC! I put together a list of resources that you can find here: ginger-zenobia-198.notion.site/Onewheel-DMV-Resources-4656845afa874da990a43f07166a18f5 Check out Hains Point on Sundays, the DC Onewheel Riders Facebook group, DC Bike Party, and the Telegram links.
Thank you! I think I'll try this format again in the future. I want to record a segment heading to Lincoln Memorial and back on the GT and the GT-S Series to show off the speed vs. range.
I feel like my GT motor is on the way out. It’s making similar noises as to what you showed in the beginning of the video. I only noticed it after the update too.
Sorry to hear that. I found it only behaved that way when I got it back only when I was in a specific custom shaping mode. If you revert to stock shaping, are you hearing the same sound?
@@followdonI have that same issue, only when custom shaping was on, didn’t matter the shape either. It also sounds like haptic buzz is on when it clearly shouldn’t be. I’m oversimplifying that but maybe you get what I’m talking about. I was gonna send it in while it’s making noises but I feel like they’re just gonna tell me to replace the motor anyways. So, I’ve resorted to riding it until it’s dead and then I’ll send it in. I feel like there isnnt gonna be an obvious fix when I crack it open. I’m putting a 5” hub on this weekend, I guess I’ll see.
@laurentbeauregard4666 seems like the update needed to be QA’d better. I was a little suspicious about my board experiencing issues out of the blue post update.
I used Custom Shaping on my GT before my motor plug fried. I’ll experiment with Custom Shaping on the GT-S Series while it is still in warranty, but I’ll likely avoid it on my GT once I get it back because I’m afraid it might have contributed to the fried motor plug problem. I started a Reddit thread to see if others in the community are having the issue: www.reddit.com/r/onewheel/s/nvCoUTkv9E
I’m also a bigger guy and that range is the only thing keeping me from pulling the trigger. My average middle of the day GT ride between 11-14 miles. But we’re about 6 months and 4 more batteries added till FM comes out with the GTS2. 😂 I’ll stick to my GT for now.
I didn’t have any problems with what the GT offered up until it stopped working (burnt motor plug, fried motor, and controller). I bought the GT-S to have an alternative board while my GT was being fixed (15-day turnaround for Future Motion to repair it with 13 days for shipping from DC to CA and back) and to minimize my downtime if something happens in the future. For the GT, I got used to using charge to 90. I would get regeneration warnings on the first block after leaving home when I charged to 100. With the GT-S, I almost immediately lose 2%, so I charge 100 percent, helping with the range. More to come in my 100-ish mile review.
That range is just sad :/ I’ll just keep my GT and wait until next release of performance onewheel w better range or performance float wheel when it comes out. Great video Don!
The lower range is hard to ignore coming from a GT. It’s a cool board to try. But when you are spending $3,200 plus tax to get it, you want it to be a more well rounded wheel. I’m glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching!
@@sendysent this is why I always bring up electric unicycles $3200 and you get about 16 miles on it with a 25 mph top speed that’s literally terrible in my opinion for that exact same price you could get the king s 22 pro with at least low balling 40 miles range which is over 2x the range the gts has with a top speed of 43 mph with suspension as well a seat so you can sit on it etc it’s starting to get to the point future motion. One wheels are literally objectively overpriced, and under performed. The float wheel is significantly cheaper and it out performs it with more range I can’t really recommend getting newer one wheels anymore just due to the fact there is so much out here now that is way better and you get way more bang for your buck
i was gonna get a gt, then the gt-s was teased the day i went to their website. so i was gonna get the gt-s, but i've been waiting to pull the trigger to see what happens on black friday. the more i've waited, the more I'm thinking i dont want this board. i've had my xr since '18, so im kinda itching to upgrade, but 3300 is to much money for 16 miles at 25 mph. and now i'm questioning if the gt is really a come up from the xr... seems like the xr is most peoples favorite fm board. care to share your thoughts?
The GT was a significant upgrade from the XR for me. It has “leave the charger at home” range, is much more stable at speed, and has more torque to help heavier riders like myself get up hills and avoid nosedives. I will be selling my XR. Black Friday through Cyber Monday deals will likely bring back launch day bundles and accessories will likely be 25% off. Each board solves its own problem. Though I rode the OG Pint for a couple of years, I can’t really recommend it to anyone. Lowest speed and range. Maybe a good gift for a child (though it would be safer to put them on a board with more performance headroom). XRs can’t be purchased new. But there are years of accessories and modifications created for them that people enjoy. They sit lower than the GT. But today, the GT has lowering kits and the 5” MTEs from The Float Life. GT has the best balance of range and speed. The GT-S is just a fast board with more torque to keep you upright. But the range is a downer. You’ll want to bring your charger if you plan to ride for a while.
Thank you! I'm making a video that teaches how to show the app or a speedometer soon. But basically, I’m recording my phone screen with the microphone enabled so that I can synchronize it in post.
Always wanted to try onewheel, but I already ride an EUC, and you just get so much more for the money with an EUC. Makes it hard to justify even trying it. Looks fun though.
It's just different. The riding stance, the safety gear, the way it integrates into your lifestyle, what you can expect from it, is all different. To compare the two completely based on specs is the wrong way to go about it, in my opinion.
always wanted to try euc, but i already ride a tesla, and you just get so much more for the money with a tesla. mikes it hard to justify even trying it. looks fun though.
I ride a Tesla, EUC, E-bike and E-Scooter and I'm dying to ride a onewheel. Sold my EUC after a couple of years and been eyeing a onewheel simply because I love snowboarding. EUC was fun and all but too heavy to commute with (Kingson s18) End of the day though the Tesla and E-Scooter (40 mph but 70lbs bohemoth) win for me. Order might change after getting a OW GT. Can't decide between the Pint X or GT. I'm 220lbs with 11.5 shoes.
I'm glad you're okay! Which board were you riding? On the GT-S Series, you can confidently ride at 23 mph, but if you hit a bump you don't expect, I can imagine the results would be the same. I think I'm going to invest in more safety gear, because a fast board makes me want to ride faster.
You really don’t think the motor dying has anything to do with the firmware update changing the way the motor operates? Honestly hella sus, the new firmware seems hella buggy and not designed correctly. For example switching apex one time for me caused non stop haptic buzz
It does seem sus. Perhaps with more data from the community, we can more confidently point to the update as the issue. I would love for FM to own up to it and give my $780.81 back. That’s crazy that switching to Apex causes nonstop haptic buzz. Did you report it to them? If so, what did they say?
The GT’s leave your charger at home range is more valuable to me than the speed and the torque on the GT-S Series. I hate having range anxiety and I dislike having to charge on the go.
I don't know for sure. I didn't hit the haptic buzz threshold while riding on the day my board died. I did have a Custom Shaping setting applied. The board went from totally fine to dead in an instant. I went to a restaurant to pick up food. Powered my Onewheel off while I was waiting. Powered it on, hopped on it, rode it at a conservative speed, and all the sudden it stopped balancing me and started smoking. I'm trying to collect stories of fried motor plugs on Reddit to see if I can learn about any patterns.
There is finally real competition for boards with this form factor. If you could buy everything preassembled and enjoy a no brainer user experience, that would certainly raise their anxiety.
That would be a good call. But a few things that keep me away: 1. The gear I’d need to wear to enjoy the speed. 2. The weight carrying it up 3 stories to my apartment with no elevator. 3. The ability to stash my [PEV] under a small chair if need be.
@@followdoncould wear the same gear as currently riding 20-30 🤷♂️ Wheel it up the stairs, and it can sit on its side for storage. Highly recommend a Veteran Patton
👍👍video, FM overpriced their boards when they introduced the gt series & gt-s is insanely overpriced, also the issues they have with sensors and cut outs, non user replaceable battery and electronics without bricking board, non standard 6.5” proprietary wheel size with less tire sidewall, issues with repair customer service without charging high prices many times to their customers when issues were faulty build quality or telling customers tuff luck, now they are trying to stifle competition in market with lawsuits, keep fun-wheeling man
I roughly got 12.6 miles with 10% battery remaining in months when the temperature was lower. I need to do another test in warmer weather, but my board is currently broken and being repaired by Future Motion.
Makes sense that they can. I tend to slow roll to check for safety before I blow through them. At least you can't get points on your license 😅@@johnlau2191
Something about OneWheel owners and it's cult following that gets me. One of the few group of PEV consumers that stand behind the company (FM) despite awful business practices. With the GTS coming this further solidifies how close-minded OneWheelers are.
I enjoy the products, but I don't love the business built around them. There is obviously a lot that needs to improve in support of the customers. At this time, Onewheel seems to support my lifestyle best. Are you looking to recommend an alternative?
Don, love the content. I am an OG pint rider & I think if you were looking for recommendations it’s time to explore EUC. The EUC range is worlds better, so is the option for suspension. Imo a OW over 20mph requires more safety gear. Really surprised at the lack of range.
@jamaal.g6891 Hey, Jamaal! I also started my Onewheel journey on the OG Pint. I only recently sold it when I had too many boards in the house. I’m going to invest in wrist guards, at minimum. Maybe an armored jacket or pants for winter rides nearing 25 mph. My PEV budget is blown now, but I’ll consider other options, like EUC, in the future. I am disappointed with the range for sure. Thanks for the compliment, the suggestion, and thank you for watching!
Have you given any thought to a Floatwheel? As you said it’s more about lifestyle preference. I still love my Pint but definitely thinking of getting a Floatwheel due to the cost/range/torque. My PEV budget is inflated too 😂
Mainly lifestyle reasons. I choose not to own a car. I live in a 700ish 3rd floor apartment in DC with no elevator. With bikes, my hands aren’t free to bring groceries home. They often can’t be parked inside of the places that I frequent and bike thefts are fairly common in DC. I use Onewheels as my primary vehicles. I would say, after less than a week on the GT-S, I wouldn’t rely on it as my only/primary board. I like e-bikes though! They just don’t integrate as well into my daily routines.
Bro. Loved the way you did this review! I just got a GT (upgrade from OG Pint) and I’m loving the crazy range - plus going 20 MPH is fast enough for me. I haven’t hit haptic buzz yet, so it just all around feels like a safe board to ride.

@@followdon I agree with you 100%
@@sendysent this is why I always bring up electric unicycles $3200 and you get about 16 miles on it with a 25 mph top speed that’s literally terrible in my opinion for that exact same price you could get the king s 22 pro with at least low balling 40 miles range which is over 2x the range the gts has with a top speed of 43 mph with suspension as well a seat so you can sit on it etc it’s starting to get to the point future motion.
Thanks for the well thought out response!
@rnonty you’re welcome!
Cool content! How do you display your one-wheel app in the corner?
Thank you! I'm making a video that teaches how to show the app or a speedometer soon. But basically, I’m recording my phone screen with the microphone enabled so that I can synchronize it in post.
The video is out now!

@@followdon much appreciated 🙏
@Magic_sk8board_media you got it! 🤝
Nice man. Where do you shred?
All through Washington, DC. You?
Always wanted to try onewheel, but I already ride an EUC, and you just get so much more for the money with an EUC. Makes it hard to justify even trying it. Looks fun though.
It's just different. The riding stance, the safety gear, the way it integrates into your lifestyle, what you can expect from it, is all different.
To compare the two completely based on specs is the wrong way to go about it, in my opinion.
always wanted to try euc, but i already ride a tesla, and you just get so much more for the money with a tesla. mikes it hard to justify even trying it. looks fun though.
@rnonty Tesla sounds better for sure.
How long you been riding,if you dont mind me asking
I don’t mind the question. About 3 and a half years now. A little over 11k miles across all of my boards.
I ate it going 23mph 2 weeks ago so I can say that 21mph probably wouldn't feel any better. Luckily I'm built sturdy
Only 10 miles of range on a $3300. Board is crazy! My GT gets me almost 20
Agreed, disappointed in my GT-S’s 13 mile range. Return of the range anxiety
Yes! It’s really disappointing. And I honestly would expect a bigger leap in performance for a board that cost a thousand more than the GT.
The GT’s leave your charger at home range is more valuable to me than the speed and the torque on the GT-S Series. I hate having range anxiety and I dislike having to charge on the go.
Do you think the haptic buzz had anything to do with your GT motor going out?
I don't know for sure. I didn't hit the haptic buzz threshold while riding on the day my board died. I did have a Custom Shaping setting applied.
The board went from totally fine to dead in an instant. I went to a restaurant to pick up food. Powered my Onewheel off while I was waiting. Powered it on, hopped on it, rode it at a conservative speed, and all the sudden it stopped balancing me and started smoking.
I'm trying to collect stories of fried motor plugs on Reddit to see if I can learn about any patterns.
You should probably get some ND filters. Without the motion blur, it looks like you're moving slowly, even above 20 mph.
So just 10 miles using 86% of the battery? How big a rider are you?
240 lbs. I just did another range test that I will publish soon. It got a little better, but not by much.
Many of us are already decided for ADV and FM anxiety levels rise I am sure.
There is finally real competition for boards with this form factor. If you could buy everything preassembled and enjoy a no brainer user experience, that would certainly raise their anxiety.
Keep the GT for range and get an EUC for range & speed.
That would be a good call. But a few things that keep me away:
1. The gear I’d need to wear to enjoy the speed.
2. The weight carrying it up 3 stories to my apartment with no elevator.
3. The ability to stash my [PEV] under a small chair if need be.
@@followdoncould wear the same gear as currently riding 20-30 🤷♂️
Wheel it up the stairs, and it can sit on its side for storage.
Highly recommend a Veteran Patton
@KaizenOz, so keep the motor engaged so that it can climb the stairs for me?
yep, keep it on and use the top handles to guide it up the stairs (kind of bumps up / deweight)@@followdon
I saw a small EUC on Hsang’s channel that might be a good intro EUC for me.
What is your weight? I'm 240
Same 240 lbs.
Thanks for sharing.
You got it! More to come in my 100-ish mile review.
👍👍video, FM overpriced their boards when they introduced the gt series & gt-s is insanely overpriced, also the issues they have with sensors and cut outs, non user replaceable battery and electronics without bricking board, non standard 6.5” proprietary wheel size with less tire sidewall, issues with repair customer service without charging high prices many times to their customers when issues were faulty build quality or telling customers tuff luck, now they are trying to stifle competition in market with lawsuits, keep fun-wheeling man
I think $3,200 was very steep for the GT S-Series. And it stung to see FM discount it on Black Friday after us early adopters paid full price.
Damn. It only got 10miles?
I roughly got 12.6 miles with 10% battery remaining in months when the temperature was lower. I need to do another test in warmer weather, but my board is currently broken and being repaired by Future Motion.
thing has the same mileage as MY ORIGINAL PINT 6-8 Miles MAX off Road only like 3 miles lol...
Kinda sucks being a heavier rider. Some other riders reported better mileage than me on Reddit.
Watching ride and I forgot to breath 😅
I’m a little over 100 miles and a week and a half into owning the GT-S. I’ll share updated impressions soon.
Damn bro you dgaf about any stop signs or lights lol
My head is on a swivel all the time. Drivers get distracted and pedestrians are often worse 😅
I don’t know anyone that does lol
Can’t check my license plate or give me a ticket 🤷🏾♂️
@@followdon police can definitely give you ticket for blowing by a stop sign. They do it where I’m at
Makes sense that they can. I tend to slow roll to check for safety before I blow through them. At least you can't get points on your license 😅@@johnlau2191

I'm not sure that the blue color makes it faster, but I like it! Thanks, Cody.
Something about OneWheel owners and it's cult following that gets me. One of the few group of PEV consumers that stand behind the company (FM) despite awful business practices. With the GTS coming this further solidifies how close-minded OneWheelers are.
Not all, but yeah.
My PEV budget is inflated too 😂
why not just buy an ebike instead? or build your own? they seem objectively better in every technical aspect
@@followdon pannier bags, racks... so many options on a bike for groceries or other cargo.
