    • @TheRowingDoc
      @TheRowingDoc 26 дней назад

      You could use any. Research does show that the ones that go around your chest are usually more accurate and I find with rowing, how the arms are moving, the wrist ones aren't always accurate. Polar is the gold standard brand. I'll put a link in the description.

    I was recently found to have mild glenohumeral and AC joint osteoarthritis in the right shoulder. I have been using an indoor rower 3-4 times a week for typically 20 minutes for many years. Would these exercises be useful? Is there anything I should do?

    • @TheRowingDoc
      @TheRowingDoc 26 дней назад

      Hey Andrea. Sorry to hear about the shoulder. Yes, these exercises could be helpful in addition to rowing, however depends a little on what level you are at with your shoulder. Give them a try and if they hurt or are easy, I'd adjust. This video gives a pretty well rounded grouping of exercises, so you could do more, but these are a great starting point.

    Hi, I am not sure if I have a hernia. I get pain in my left groin whenever I strain my abdomen. Recently, an ultrasound showed no sign of a hernia. Should I tolerate the mild pain and continue rowing? Thanks in advance.

    • @TheRowingDoc
      @TheRowingDoc Месяц назад

      Hey. Sorry to hear about your groin. Do you get the pain when you move your back like leaning forward, backwards, rotating, or sidebending? Sometimes groin pain can come from other areas like the back. It's good you've been cleared and don't have a hernia, but if there is a smaller range of motion you can row in without causing the mild pain, I'd recommend doing that rather than pushing through without knowing exactly what's going on. If it continues, I'd recommend following up with a physio or MD to make sure something isn't developing or getting worse. Good luck and hope you feel better soon.

    This was really helpful! I am starting rowing again after extended illness and injury that has me limited in knee and ankle strength and motion and have been struggling with figuring out adaptions. And it's just helpful to hear the reminder to go slow again :) I do have a question regarding building strength again. Is it better to increase the drag higher or increase time? I am guessing increasing drag will put more pressure on the joints, which can be good, but I'm really afraid of overloading and I'm not sure which winds up being easier on the joints overall. Longer rows at lower drag or shorter rows at higher? Is it better to work up to longer time on the machine at lower drag before increasing it or is better to do shorter rows at higher drag and work on increasing that part first? Any thoughts you have would be much appreciated!

    • @TheRowingDoc

      Hey Sarah. So sorry for the delayed answer. I was on a two week vacation and just getting back. I'd recommend checking out this video about the damper setting which impacts the drag factor. But if you have any thoughts or can point me to videos where you have addressed them I'd appreciate it!

    • @TheRowingDoc
      @TheRowingDoc 3 месяца назад

      Hey Sarah. Thanks for reaching out and glad they are helpful! Foot stretcher height will change the pressure at the hip. I think I mention it in video 2. Which is here:ruclips.net/video/4dEigiKR0TI/видео.html Yes, altering the drag factor will change how hard it feels and if you don't have great connection with the machine, then you will notice it more with a higher drag factor. Let me know if that helps or if it doesn't quite answer your question.

    • @SarahOrgass
      @SarahOrgass 3 месяца назад

      @@TheRowingDoc Thanks so much. I still didn't catch the foot stretcher height part. I am guessing a lower height is better? I can't seem to find the right spot... Although I think the biggest issue for me is likely they are not strong enough. I appreciate your reminder that they aren't as strong as we think! I appreciate the exercise recommendations. I'll be giving them a try for sure. And the drag is another one I'm struggling to find my sweet spot. I have a Hydrow, which I know operates a bit different than others. Theor drag of 104 is supposed to mimic the water but I am just getting back to rowing and am a super wimp right now and find that a bit too hard. However, when I go too low it seems my legs don't engage enough/properly and I use my back too much. But I guess it something I just have to play around with more. Thanks so much for you help.

    Alrighty.. maybe you can help. I am a plus-size woman. With spastic bipedal cp on my right side. When I row. My knees tend to face outward, (like a frog)and my right arm doesn't completely stretch straight.

      Hey. Thanks so much for reaching out. Great to hear you are rowing! Depending on your spasticity, really just stay in a comfortable range that you can comfortably do with some control. For the belly and knees, checkout this video, it might help. Let me know if it doesn't and you still have questions. :) ruclips.net/video/Sj_GcbDGQ7c/видео.html

    Really like your content! Please just be careful with the audio, it's a bit distorted (Clipping). Other than that, great videos!

      Hey Rafael. Thanks so much. Yes you are right. Someone else has mentioned it too. I am working on getting my sound and everything better one video at a time. Thanks for bearing with me and hopefully one day I will figure out sound, editing, and all of it, but for now I am a one person team and doing my best, but continuing to learn. Appreciate the input and support. :)

    Hi, I bought a budget I say row machine (£288 GBP) and my footplate moves. Is this ok for it to do and work out - will it affect my workout and or detract from the amount of calories I burn ? And should I buy one which is more expensive and I have a static plate like the gym ones? Thanks Will I still lose weight with the moving footplates ?

      Hey. Great question. Honestly any movement is great. If your goal is just losing weight or burning calories, this won't really have a huge effect as it is still a really similar movement and that's the key. I'd say stick with what you have and see if you enjoy it. If you do and like it, then maybe upgrade but for now, it should do the trick. Happy rowing.

    A practical tip: put a piece of tape on the rail what the rollers will hit if you overcompress. If you feel the bump in your seat during a training, you know you went too far.

    20 mins is def enough, 5000 metres inside or just outside of 20 mins is a great workout.
