You should probably learn how to use that BESS tester. The way you snap the knife onto the test media will show a much better score than what it should. You got 124 the way the video shows. My guess is, used correctly (slowly, very slowly) would probably show upwards of 250 -300 or worse. I can show a score of 25 or less on a knife that had a legit score over 300 doing it the way you did. Makes me wonder about the actual value of the Ultrasharp stones.

why sk5 should be a super steel? is not and is not what i'd put on blade. expc a katana that is not the sharpest and strongest sword at hand. Better go with a 1060 or, for good looking, the same sandwich of mild steel and a hard steel for the core. but again....is a katana.

Would you say a Katana/Tanto pair for $600 is a good entry for a first buyer? I really fell in love with Ghost of Tsushima and a Katana website has a replica kit in T10 steel in stock, and I’m SOO tempted 😂 I’m just nervous I’d be buying some mall ninja crap since it’s a video game replica, but I don’t know 😅

What's good is the open handle that doesn't have finger scallops and dictates the hold and use of the knife so it's got more versatility.

While I am always very sorry to hear that a well-made blade is poorly furnished, I have to support the reported short-comings as something I have found across the range of asian sword-making. IMVVHO I believe the desire to turn-out a large number of blades has caused the sword smiths to make two major mistakes. One mistake is to use un-seasoned wood for the sheath that shinks as it cures. The result is exactly the noisy ornamentation as seen here. The second is the use of lacquer to set poorly fitted guards and pommels. Actual use such as form work or validation cutting causes the lacquer to degrade resulting the noise heard in the video. My own personal long sword was fitted properly as was an antique Korean sword. However, I have come to find that it is incumbant on the new own to prepare to have the sheath, guard and pommel all dealth with soon after pressing the sword into service. Of course, this assumes that the blade itself is worthy of this sort of attention, and I make no assumptions there. Very nice video.

I have bought it and it has arrived yesterday, I have to say that I was impressed, most of the issues that you mentioned have been fixed, the wrapping is very tight and the edge was very very sharp, it cutted trough paper really easily I love it! Great review tho! I enjoyed it a lot

I bought this knife right when it first came out, like literally, nobody even had it. Although I love the blade shape & length, I just couldn't find a use for this knife except to slice food. This is just a straight up a combat knife. I might get one again later on as a back up knife or something to put in my bug-out bag. but this knife is a straight up pig-sticker, it doesn't really fare well in anything else, but it's a good combat weapon for sure. The One knife I carry and still carry to this day, is the 1211, in all black and has a single mark. I don't care about any other knife really, I love my Ka-Bar and although it's not the absolute toughest knife out there, it does everything I need it to do while still being easy to sharpen. I swear by this knife honestly, and I don't get how people beat on a Ka-bar, expecting it to pass torture tests, and then knock it for failing. You don't go off-roading in a ferrari would you? So then, people need to use the knife the way it was intended to be used, simple as that. I don't give a rat's ass for an over-priced knife with exotic steel just because some bored a-hole with money & a youtube channel has one and brags about it. I prefer my Ka-Bar, it has stood the test of time and I will continue to use my Ka-Bar 1211. Nuff said!
