    While I thought the wooden Dowel might be a good stick to work with...a soft branch would have been easier and more stable piece of wood to work with, recommended.

    • @bigjayroadstar1700
      @bigjayroadstar1700 3 месяца назад +1

      Yea the wood dowel was definitely harder to use

    • @JoeSteel1
      @JoeSteel1  3 месяца назад +1

      It really felt like a clean low effort on prep stick to use, but it peeled and chips and was hard to cut accurate into...kudos to you, yours came out very clean!!!!

      @@JoeSteel1 I'm going to try it again with a green stick from a tree. Doing the hole was definitely a scary moment. I thought for sure I was going to crack the dowel with that one

    • @JoeSteel1
      @JoeSteel1  3 месяца назад +1

      @bigjayroadstar1700 Yeah yeah me too...that it was gonna crack many times...🤪

    Don't feel bad about cheating where you can. If you had a chainsaw to build a log cabin, you wouldn't choose a hatchet.
    Tools are wonderful!
    You did great and tested multiple knives.

    • @JoeSteel1
      @JoeSteel1  3 месяца назад +1

      Thanks for that, Cap. but I think choosing the wood Dowel was bad for me to start. Next time a soft branch would be much better to manipulate, and shape, the wood Dowel has too much a tendency to chip and Crack, and the wood is too stiff, but in all the knives did well considering

  • @DonnieBAllDay
    @DonnieBAllDay 3 месяца назад +1

    Now that you have them all done you can take your best knife and smooth everything out. I used my toki and absolutely cleaned up every single notch to perfection

      Next time I won't use processed wood, but I guess I can still clean them up, thanks for watching D

      Cause I 💯 agree with you, being proficient with a skill set, not only can help when needed, it also helps you better understand how good and capable a knife is when used, if not for anything else, more developing ways of demonstrating and testing knives, it's ALL good....Glad I was able to do it...and thanks for the push

    Great job especially for just getting into it! These things are great for working on skills and also seeing how different knives cut. I think you would have an easier time with the notches if you cut a green stick to work with. Dowls are quite hard and will be more difficult to work with.

    • @JoeSteel1
      @JoeSteel1  3 месяца назад +1

      Yeah, learned that the hard way, dowels are very hard to shape especially without cracking or pealing, you need power tools for clean cuts, but yes clean green branches next time, considering the hard Dowel the Bushcrafter did really well, thanks for watching dude

    You did an amazing job explaining your process Mr.Joe! I should write the notches down like you did! And your absolutely right it's a challenge to make these and specially not breaking the Try Stick in the process for sure! Full disclosure I've used the SAK Wounded Warrior project knife and used the saw a few times as well! There is a lot of notches out there and so many versions of these out there! You killed this Mr.Joe great job bruv! Thanks so much for sharing this one!
