This is frankly the BEST utility knife ever made. You get access to the ENTIRE blade, awesome grip, great lock, perfect texture on the handle, excellent deep pocket clip. My hands are smaller so the handle is fine for me. I bought 2 just in case I ever lose one.
I got mine today, after waiting 40 days for the order to arrive. Love it. Smooth and drop shut. No blade play. Nicely contoured handle. No sharp edges. It's so nice I might be reluctant to use it.
Been carrying one for a few months now and absolutely love it. I will say this, I took it apart and loctite every screw on it before I started carrying it. Takes 10 minutes and it's not coming apart
I was worried that this utility knife was going to be one of the $100++ knifes taking a utility blade. Very happy to see it’s priced reasonably for daily use. Great review 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I received mine yesterday and didn't like the pocket clip off to the side so I customized it by adding a Kershaw pocket clip directly in the middle, looks great.
The fast back has been every tradesman's dream since it was invented. Eight dollars for a utility knife and a screwdriver you can't beat it. And it cuts just as good as your seven hundred dollar knives.
Love me some utility knives. I have 2 Rexford R.U.T. Version 5’s the original TPT and the best damn EDC TPT slide. Needless to say I can’t justify anymore 5th pocket carry utility knives but still love to see new ones. Thanks for the video!
Think I prefer the workpro. It's cheaper and I like how ultra slim they are so I can stash one anywhere. The olight one looks like a fun addition to our ever growing package opener collections.
I got one just after it came out. It replaced a gerber EAB lite. It’s not as comfortable in the hand as the EAB, but I prefer the blade lock over the EAB. So far it’s been a good upgrade. I think a version 2 of this could be near perfect.
I have a ti version and a g10 version, not oknife but same thing. I really like them but wish the handle was longer. I'm not found of the blade change but is what it is. Nu knives has one with a better handle, same blade holder, but is a liner lock. If only I could put the bar lock on the Nu knives
Great review video and was interesting to watch. The extra blade length would really work for me since I cut lots of cardboard at the moment with the job I do. Thanks.
I understand and appreciate the purpose of the TSA. That being said, last time I flew, I had my knipex cobra xs pliers and one of my work pro folding utility knives confiscated. But only going through security when flying back home. I went through security no problem leaving my home city. So it seems it's not a policy change. it really depends on the TSA staff to decide.
i bought the 9tiedc g10 utility knife from amazon right before the oknife came out. im not sure who had the design first but both of them are nearly identical. i like it but its a little smaller than id like it to be in hand. but what kills me the most in folding utility knives is the lack of tip up deep cary clips. it bothers me so much. These are sort of filling the hole for me there. i have the work pro and i like it slightly better for the screw less blade swap. i almost bought the nuknives kumpanter utility knife recently and probably would have if it had a button lock or axis style lock. seems like it would be the best one yet. im still on my search for the perfect utility knife. and if the civivi elementum utility ever releases it may be that one
I have a question for you or anyone that reads this. When you have a knife that's made of a steel that rusts and you're in the woods for an extended amount of time, say a month, and you didn't bring anything to treat your knife to keep it from rusting. Do you know of any natural oil source or lubricant found in the wild that you can use to treat your knife?
Great question, obviously animal fats and grease would help with that. Potentially fish oils. But I’m not aware of any plants that would help with that.
A good hack might be to get on that screw head with a Dremel cut-off wheel and grind in a slot to take a penny etc. for reliable torque, like on the Gerber EAB's.
Ok I collect utility knives for edc (dozen and all researched ) ,this with the might replace my Outdoor Edge UtiliPro which over all has been the winner BTW the 9TiEDC Storeon amazon has this almost exact knife in TI,,,,I like the blade enclosse at the back so I probally will go with the Oknife version
I switched from the EAB and I’m very happy with it. The toolless blade change with the captive nut is probably my favorite feature. The axis lock is fun to fidget with though…
As an overnight shelf stocker at a supermarket, this tool is my bread & butter since razor blades are the best tape tool. They cut (tape) even when dull because of geometry, infinitely. This tool should be your EDC tape tool. Your normal knives should be specific to other roles. Put a lanyard on it that accommodates your hand, (Dremel down the back spacer to remove the blade wrap. You should hear metal contact on open & close.) and you will likely need some pliers &/or vibratite to keep the blade screw where it belongs. Having a dedicated, slim tape tool is worth the small fixes. I would advise you to vibratite all screws because Olight will want you to send your knife in for inspection, which is obviously not worth doing when it's a $25 tool.
Love the extra blade real estate, but unfortunately the crosssbar lock is the dealbreaker in this case...I am the worst when it comes to catching my palm while flipping them closed, so i feel like it would be a matter of when, not if, it's going to happen with a handle that short.
Will you be doing any reviews on the Buck Alphas? Specifically the new Magnacut Elite models? Edit: sorry, I'm dumb, just found your alpha video from last year.
@@gideonstactical I have a Buck Compadre in 3V, a limited run from 2021 I think, that I've really liked and has made me consider getting one of the Alphas. After watching your video, I think the Scout Elite will fit my needs best. That said, I'd like to see your opinion of the 663 Alpha Guide Elite, if it suits your fancy to do so.
2 nice knives for classy edc. For jobs and practicality though, I don't see anything that beats a Stanley 99E. Easy fast blade deployment and storage for several spare blades. When it comes to real work, all these other flip open utility knives are just toys.
G'day Aaron, wow weren't you mature looking back in the day, lol. To be honest I've got knives everywhere so I dont often use a boxcutter these days, though they do make especially good cable strippers. I really like the idea of the little folders in an EDC or bugout bag ..... and residing within a FAK in particular. With this one, the extra blade length can certainly be considered a pro, though you wear the whole length out in one go. i.e. as opposed to spinning it around to start again. Also, (not so bad in a bag or kit), but there's no spare blade storage. I'm sure you remember the ol' Stanley jobs with several blades in the handle. If you're gonna have disposable blades at all, surely replacements, in some way, need to be close at hand. Cheers Duke.
I have to pass on this I've tried crossbar locks for my job they just complicate things with gloves for me. I also don't like how easy that type of lock is to trigger and come undone. I whould not go for push button locks either for the same reasons. There are now some otf utility knives out that are super easy to operate and change the blade in thank you for options though.
ya, the wheel. I hate it. Otherwise I love the knife. The size is great. So light and compact. I love having a little razor in my pocket. But the wheel is junk. presently got a klein in my pocket. The one with the screwdriver. And it's kinda bulky. I want a knife like the klein. That perfect snappy build quality. But smaller. Maybe with longer edge. And maybe even a spare blade. And all non-tool everything for replacing the blade and such. Don't even need the screwdriver. (But the klein screwdriver is a little magic. I'm gonna put an awl on there. So I can cut AND poke!)
I picked one up when they first came out, but the handle is so short that I can't use it without cutting my hand. If someone made one like it but 1/2 to 1in longer handle I would buy it.

Totally! And for value the workpro still wins

Watched 2 of your videos… had to subscribe. Keep up the great work! 💪
Welcome aboard! Thanks for being apart of the GT Crew.
The Rocket Razor OTF utility blade also utilizes most of the blade like the Otacle does. I find myself using the Razor more because it's '"cooler".
Looks sweet. Aaron, did you make a video about your work mat that you use for your tabletop videos?

I was able to fly with mine with no blade. I did put it in a bin separate and TSA let me thru with no issues.

I wonder what their issue was with the Knipex. It sounds like someone was on a power trip. At the very least, the criteria is very subjective.

"Sharp edges" was the reason they gave for confiscating the knipex. Abuse of authority was just implied.
@@thatguy044 -- That's insane. There are no sharp edges on a knipex cobra.
They knew the knipex xs pliers are popular and wanted to steal your gear. Why didn’t you just mail your stuff back to yourself?

The only reason I didn’t get it is the screw for the blade. I’ll stick to my workpro for now.
Couple people broke scale n clip turns , so wish it had 2 screws

also according to blade hq these are made in the uk not china so that's another plus

The screw lock needs to change. Because a blade coming loose is too dangerous.
It's actually a really good lock. Can crank it down and almost need pliers to loosen it
Is the clip ambi?
Sadly no
