I am a knife junkie and love videos like this. An old guy at over 70 now, I have carried about every knife and combo there is from the obscenely heavy Leatherman 'everything in it but a hammer' Tool down to a sharpened file in my fingernail clipper. But over the years I have always come back to my little Victorinox Classic XD that is with me everywhere (I have owned maybe six over the years.) My other Go-To is the Leatherman Wave. Both are bullet-proof and long-proven dependable. That said, carry on. You're doing good work here.
Side note: I bought one of the first Leathermans that Tim Leatherman made. That was a long time ago. Sadly, someone needed it more than me and took advantage of my involuntary generosity.

3:06 Why not just resharpen the utility blades? I do it all the time, takes me less than 2 minutes to get them back to shaving sharp even when I'm only using a piece of micro grit sandpaper on any hard flat surface. It's still fascinating to me to think of how effective the marketing has been over the years to get people to fully and blindly accept the concept of disposability on things that could be reused over and over again for years (if not exceeding the life span of the user/ consumer).

I started carrying the Gerber to work with me. Cut a couple of hoses off of brass or stainless hose barbs and you destroy the tip of whatever EDC knife you're carrying in a big hurry. I don't carry it outside of work, but it has saved me a lot of sharpening time, and the company I work for pays for the blades as supplies, so... win-win!

Your best bet if you're doing any type of construction work is to get the best sharpest most expensive knife blade you can you'll save yourself hundreds of dollars in the long run. The sharper they last longer everything about them is better

??? WTF???? Why would you want an expensive knife for Construction. You use it so much it will be destroyed. Why not a utility knife that you can instantly change to a cheap and sharp blade? U dont work in Construction

This may seem incredibly petty, but what's the big deal with everybody "reaching out" these days. Like, is that better than contacting, or touching base with or any other term you want to you for connecting with. I guess I can see 'reaching out" to save a drowning person, but "reaching out" to a pocket tool manufacturer? Really? How noble. ;-)

Today I missed my check in at a air port so I had to go through security with my suit case. They took my normal knife. But for my utility knife I just took out my blade and gave them my spare blades... and they let me keep the knife. So that's good if you forget your knife. 'Side note they will steal your liquids too

I own and used the Outdoor Edge for several months, I love the size of it but it quickly became very frustrating. The blades would always jam up and the blade retraction was super sensitive causing the blade to retract at the worst times.

You bastard!!! I was just agonizing over getting a Casio Edifice EF106D watch, but running out of available funds. I looked at the Gerber EAB Lite for under $7.00, but then saw I needed to make it up to $25 (another Amazon con. or an opportunity?), so I ended up getting the Casio as well. I already have 50 watches... I look at it as saving the edges on my 20 plus knives, as I mostly use knives to open Amazon packages. There goes my grocery money. Oh well.

  • @diamondflaw

They are one of the more expensive, but having spent a while in a receiving department opening massive numbers of boxes the Lenox Gold blades stay sharp so much longer than the cheap ones that they actually save you money over time.... as well as saving you the time of changing your blades as often.

Oh, and my favorite utility knife to carry is the Stanley 0-10-810. It's heavy compared to the others you're showing, but the ergonomics combined with quickly being able to move the blade into position with one hand make it the most convenient I've used. When I carry it I do replace my primary blade with it.

In my case, i enjoy Edc'ing large blades whether fixed or folding. In addition, I Edc a leatherman. So i already have at least 2 blades on me. Adding a small razor knife like one of those solves the last part of the equation for uses under 3in (as in the leatherman).
That way, every day i have access from 6-7in, down to tiny razor knife blades.
The cool part is it is easy to forget I'm even wearing a knife!

Even this tiny ones knife, say law in Denmark, are a murder knife - even with 1/2 inch long blade - are you on a bar with this, are you a criminel. A knife is a knife.
    Mad Law, Denmark has made.
Not 9/11 Law, but only a Crackpot Law.
Things with a sharp edge, are a weapon.
A hobby knife, is a deadly weapon say Law.
People there has forgot, a utilyti blade in poket, and go in a bar, must Pay a ? Fine ?

A word of warning from the UK. Here in the UK, it is illegal to carry such utility knives in public without good reason such as work related and using it actually for work, otherwise has to go in a tool box, when carrying definitely not EDC. Any locking knife are also banned in public (Pocket/Jacket) as well as any knife with a non locking blade longer than 3 inches being carried in public, such as your pocket or jacket. Some of the better multi tool knives (Gerber, etc) may, on some models fall foul of the law in the UK, if the main blade is longer than 3 inches and the Police will take it off you permanently and you may end up in Court for carrying a concealed weapon or similar. A fairly safe bet is the venerable non-locking "Swiss Army style Knife" multi-tool. When I go through town walking when I am going camping, I put my knives all the way down the bottom of my rucksack under my sleeping bag, so not easy to get out until I unpack my rucksack when setting up camp and basically legal for camping/fishing purposes if I am doing that activity. I am aware your post is for mainly aimed at the USA/Canada, etc. but please be aware if you come to the UK and buy a knife to carry in your temporary EDC when here our laws are very strict on knives. The law abiding go by the rules, but the criminals don't care and carry what they want, hence the amount of knife crime in London, etc.

I've been carrying a folding Gerber utility knife attached to my ankle holster for years. It functionally weighs nothing and consumes no space. It's a second knife that has no penalty for carry, why not? Since it rides in the same holster as my BUG, there isn't even a don/doff or retention penalty. It's a "free" extra knife.

Stanley 99E: The very definition of elegance in simplicity. It's about as long as your hand (so it's not easily concealable) with a simple ergonomic shape, solid metal (no compromising grade-school plastic here), built like a frikkin' tank with a smooth sliding mechanism that'll advance the blade to five different lengths, held together by one Philips head screw, has a rear compartment that'll hold a bunch of other blades, a hole in the back for a lanyard, and will last forever. If you don't mind the size, this tool is all pros, no cons.

I've carried a utility blade since I turned 18. If I was doing a lot of hard cutting I'd take the old school 1 with a big candy bar shaped handle, or a folding knife most days which gives better leverage than these mini knives. Now a days I'm responsible for cutting much at work so I just carry a screwpop, or pocket knife for food or when I need something sharper than a utility razor blade.

Basically the average person needs about three knives. A combat knife well it is useful to be able to kill a bear with it. It's really made for doing the basic things that you need without having to carry extra things. We talkin cutting a fence wire driving a tent Peg skinning a deer batoning. So basically three types of knives food grooming utility why not take something like you have there in this very nice video. And make it a part of a larger knife. Add a spork Cook's knife shaving knife. On-the-job knife. Skinning the creature knife self defense knife. And voila

I've been carrying Olfa CK 2 for about 2 years now. It's not as common as other utility knives, but the blade is a more useful for me than standard blades. It has wider cutting edge and a little thicker.
