Omg a pinned comment im famous! Hi Mom!
I would like to watch a pencil expert analysis John Wick’s skill.
His calligraphy is terrible
Or The Joker's.
The disturbing fact was that there was some guy who used ballistic gelatin and plywood (to simulate skull material) in the experiment and he was able to shove a pencil through both with not that much effort needed into it, making the whole ‘stab pencil into the ear canal’ actually plausible.
Well, I'm not sleeping tonight.
Pencils are scarier than knifes, did you notice how small the entry point when it stab you ?😁
"I'm cutting that, I'm cutting that, I gonna make a minced meat out of you"
He calmly explained
"Im cutting you down to the core"
Thats just scary
And he's right. Never underestimate a knife fighter. Even a bad one can cause serious damage without much effort... :)
That whole part had me laughing so hard
inserts it keels meme
The expert knife guy is really threatening this poor dude.

“If I were going to fight you, I’m just going to come out and shoot this out”
I first started watching the more recent bjj breakdowns before this and I thought poor guy getting his joints twisted and his neck choked...I am just watching this on screen and knowing full well they are using a dummy knife I still get this weird creeps every time he makes a slash or stab and can somehow feel the blade cutting thru my flesh. For me I think that is worst psycologically than having a guy twist my arm to discomfort.
@@rbr1170 Both Logan and Chad are safe! We would never use a real sharp knife.
With a gun it's all about the drop. Any shooter knows that. I'm sure you know that as well. But on the streets it's rarely ever a shootout on both sides.

Most of us would
Then you already know more than thousands of street punks. A knife fight usually means your getting hurt no matter what you do. It's best to learn to avoid being in situations where you would have no choice but to fight.
@@JosephDiveley Well sometimes you need to kill or be killed
@@oswald0_ Sure. I'm not saying that there aren't and I am not saying you always have control of the situation enough to get out of it. Still, most of the time someone who is aware of their surroundings can avoid being put in the situation in the first place.
For example, if I am walking down the street and I see a large group of men then I am giving them a wide berth or picking a different way to walk.
That’s why I never underestimate anyone no matter what their size is or how skilled and smart they are
Another shining example of why knife combat is far, far, far scarier than people realize.
There's a reason daggers and tantos were the weapon of choice among armored medieval knights and samurai.
Very few things are more deadly or precise than an extension of your hand that is essentially a razor.
Bullets. That's pretty much it.
Swords, katanas and others were powerful but slow and further away, in true CQC you need a knife, people don't realize how weak flesh is, nor how sharp these blades would be, the easily cut to the bone if they were made correctly or even decently. Simple tantos could easily slide between the armor plating and sink deep into your organs, while European daggers easily slashed through arteries and limbs, you can cleanly cut off a wrist or foot in only a few short motions. Knife fighting is deadly and commonly ignored, there is a reason so many serial killers utilize knives, they are everywhere and are easily used to slaughter people. I recently got these awesome ceramic knives, so extremely sharp it cuts through a paper towel I held in one hand! This thing would easily cut through my bone with little damage. Terrifying.
Ok kayo.
@@ssgaspyxiaarnis6393 hotak ko
They were not the weapons of choice for armored knights and samurai... Lol. They were side arms. And we're treated as such. A sword, a polearm, a spear of some sort, an axe, a hammer, pretty much everything was used before you'd pull out your knife or dagger lmao.
@@bobdylan1968 but switching to your sidearms are faster right...
I've been a Surgical Technician for 48 years. I've been involved in a lot of vascular surgeries, some were due to trauma. The Aorta comes right off the top of the heart, where it forms an arch as it heads "downstream ". The bottom line is that even in a hospital, that injury is NOT survivable. good content, thanks.
Always great having an expert Surgical Technician in the comment section. We appreciate your reply!
I almost didn't add the reply, as I don’t want to be seen as a troll. I've helped repair ruptured Aortic Aneurysm. That's not a knife wound, However, the patient with a ruptured Aneurysm WILL lose all of their blood, requiring a lot of blood given in transfusion.

Once the aorta is cut, unless you're actually in an ER, your chances of survival are about as good as your chances of beating John Wick in a one-on-one fight.
That’s not true. Cardiothoracic surgeons treat aorta dissections relatively frequently. A lady at my hospital suffered an 11 cm(!) dissection, and was successfully treated after having been driven across town to a different hospital.
@@davidwarren719 😱😱😱
@@davidwarren719 There’s a big difference with the inner layer of your aorta tearing, and a knife puncturing the entire aorta.
@@gooddoggo2258 except the knife seals the puncture temporarily leaving time for doctors to extract it and close it. That's exactly why all first aid manuals and training will tell you not to remove a knife or any object lodged deeply, specially in the neck, torso and thighs because it is either preventing bleeding or can cause more damage if pulled out carelessly. And that' s why there are lots of people who have survived after having a knife or any other thing puncture their heart or aorta and leacing it there while they're taken to a ERA
@@Charles-A this is a common teaching point and practice for first responders to leave penetrating objects in someone and immobilize the object until they can be taken to an emergency room.
I have an theory on the “you’ll die if you keep fighting” thing he does repeatedly. Adrenaline can be a type of energy that can at certain times give people the strength or power to keep going, I think telling them they’re gonna die and explaining why will lead to a drop in their adrenaline rush, leading them towards deciding to get help rather than keep trying to kill him. You can do a lot in the few seconds with adrenaline before death, even in real life. It’s not John showing mercy, it’s him making sure he can turn his back after the fight. I doubt the writers or anybody on the movie were trying for this I just thought that a notorious assassin would play strange mind games for an advantage.
That's a pretty neat idea, psychological aspect of fighting is severely underutilised in movies and games, wish that more scenes would depict minor antagonists as actual characters that can be bargained with, demoralised and so on. That would be a nice way to show difference in motivation and cleverness of the protagonist. We're never going to get that, are we?
Kaen Awoken true, I don’t think he’s shutting off someone else’s adrenaline, but sometimes just having a change in tone and in the situation by your enemy suddenly talking to you could offset someone after an severe injury with that opponent still in your face. I don’t claim this is something the movie did at all, just an idea I had.
All the John Wick movies have at least one, "Advancing the story line" fight where John has to take some damage to further the plot... ;)
haha can't deny that!
Well considering in the second and third he was being hunted constantly I’d say it’s fine.
movies are getting better with realistic choreographs, they're stepping away from the "martial art dances" and moving into real life military tactics, while also sporting real life knives. good examples are "hunted" and "revenant" and this one
“Getting better”
I mean yeah but realism doesn’t necessarily make good entertainment. I’d rather watch some House of Flying Dagger flying through the air shit than a realistic street fight with people tussling on the ground
@@TraceurRyuk Eh, realism can be more entertaining if it's done right. I think a sword fight with more realistic tactics would be cooler than two doofuses flailing around with comically oversized fantasy weapons, but to each their own.
Realism is everything. Even in fantasy. If a book/film breaks the selfestablished rules that is the worst.
@@cauchyschwarz3295 But selfestablished rules can vary, so don't have to be realistic at all.

You have to figure they're operating at a fantasy level of skill. So the whole 'knife in the aorta' thing makes sense, plenty of people survive insane stuff simply because the object (knife in this case) was left in place until it could be safely removed by a surgeon. I figure the doctors in this universe are quite good, especially those that would be within the assassin world, they'd know how to do some impossible things you'd not see in the general populous.
At the very least, it is true that the guy would die much faster by removing the blade.
@Dominik Dinik Well, mouth, nose, eyes, none of those are per-se absolutely vital organs.
The aorta, on the other hand... If the blade is preventing the blood from flowing, the time before death is at best 4-5 minutes (after that you're brain-dead anyway). So it would depend on how much of the aorta the blade cut.
If it's a clean complete cut, the guy has absolutely no chance of surviving. Even if the fight happened in a hospital, just the time for the surgeons to arrive and to cut the guy open to repair the aorta may be too long for him to survive.
If the aorta has only been grazed, and the blood flow is still decent while the blade staying in prevents blood leakage, he has a decent change of surviving, as long as state-of-the-art surgeons get their hands on him ASAP.
@Aaron Smith You don't see a giant goddamn assassin empire all over the world either, say it with me, fan-ta-sy. Even so, weird shit happens in reality bub, like this 80+ yr old guy who survived the same thing that killed Steve Irwin cause the barb was left in. Though you could argue that's the heart, just google it and you'll find examples. www.nbcnews.com/id/15321718/ns/us_news-life/t/leaping-stingray-stabs-florida-man-near-heart/#.X1bMDnlKgjI
@Aaron Smith Of course. This is all said in good spirits bud, I don't do negativity or shitting on others. Any kind of major artery injury anywhere has a high mortality rate. Especially true for the aorta at any position.
It never ceases to amazing me how people will weigh in, seemingly authoritatively, on subjects with less than zero experience/knowledge. I'm not a doctor, but I do know how to ask a doctor/surgeon the relevant questions. Given that an average dagger thickness is 0.635 cm and the human aorta ranges between 3.2 cm and 5.0 cm in diameter, it's entirely plausible that he could have punctured the aortic arch, through the intercostal space (ICS), with his blade horizontal like that. In this case, it would not sever the vessel or cut off blood flow. In these cases where a large vessel is punctured cleanly and the object is still present, it's not uncommon for it to offer enough pressure to keep the blood from substantially leaking out. In these types of traumas, I've seen trained first responders use any sort of cloth (i.e. gauze/bandage) to carefully immobilize the piercing object, until a surgeon can begin their work. Please don't spread ignorance and misinformation. It's one of the plights plaguing our society, especially in the information age. You have the sum of nearly all human knowledge at your finger tips. Exercise some wisdom and access this information.

It’s nice seeing an analysis of the knife fights in John Wick, seeing that most cover the gun fights and hand to hand. I do have to say that the opening was a bit off given context of the film. They were shooting at each other while trying to remain inconspicuous and that opening fight was a remnant of that shoot out hence why he was low-key trying to stab him instead of going all out. But I’m definitely liking this analysis.
I work in a meat department. He’s serious about the knife sharpness and it’s capacity
I've only ever had cheap knives. A friend gave a really expensive benchmade for my birthday. The first time I sharpened it I did one of those "check the edge with your thumb" moves and sliced a bit of my fingerprint off. That's when I realized that I'm an idiot.
@@caldwellguy I’m afraid the level of sensitivity you need to do that safely with a sharp knife is somewhat learned. I guess you know how hard not to push.

For that first break down scene, I believe they were both holding a knife in one of their hands which means neither had a free hand to do one of the other moves suggested. When Cassian caught John's knife hand, John could have caught Cassian's at the same time which kind of put them at a stalemate so in that situation, Cassian probably thought kneeing the knife into John's leg was the best option :)

It's technically possible to survive a stab to the aorta assuming is stays in there. It takes about 30 mins for a person to actually die from blood loss from that specific wound. Can they fight? No, any movement will cause more bleeding and that's assuming they don't pass out due to low blood pressure but a skilled surgeon could save your life.
but can the person stabbed be able to call in their phones for an ambulance?
@@aurelian2668 yes. They'll have to move slow to make sure not to widen the wound to the artery.
Remember this in an emergency situation. If you are ever impaled, knife, pipe, pole, do not pull it out, it might be acting as a finger in the dam. If anything pack bandages around wound and secure it best as possible so it doesn't move. Get to hospital as soon as possible.

Something I like about entertainment like movies, tv shows, and animation when they are being compared to realistic fights is that, while a decent sense of realism is good, it's more about the *feel* of the fight, not how it actually is. You see this *especially* in animation like Naruto or the 2003 Clone Wars series where movements are greatly exaggerated in order to get the viewer to feel exhilarated as if they were in the fight alongside the characters.
"I'm going to make mincemeat out of you before I finish you off". Said so casually, oh my God lol 😅😅

The main thing that I noticed was that (in the movies) they next to never go after the tendons in knife fights, I know (from the VERY limited bit that I know of it) Kali and a few other martial arts teach to do exactly that in some instances.

@@ScenicFights I was already planning on checking out your other videos... this information jumped that up in priority a few notches. Insane tips and tricks perfect for self defense subbed!
