“Overall I think it was pretty dope” yeah me too
Brian. Understatement of the year
I literally only needed to watch this video for 2 seconds because of the comments cheers bro
Right as I went to look at the comments I read this and as he was saying it😂
You can tell he's a pro just by the way he calls it "brujitsu" because he's so tired of saying those three words all the time lol
Judo/jiu jutsu is so underrated in the fight scene. Everyone wants to see fancy kicks or punches. But throws, holds and chokes are also really cool
100% and I’d like put emphasis on judo. A good throw on concrete is knocking anyone out.
@@ScenicFights video is 3 years old and you still reply ❤
Judo is in the Olympics, and bjj is one of the fastest growing martial arts out here. Far from overrated.
Wanna know how its possible? Hes John Wick. Hes a man of sheer will lol

The first John Wick movie honestly really inspired me to get into BJJ, I thought it was some of the coolest shit ever
Weird. Its all judo in movie
@@Supermomo2007 Judo is based off of traditional Japanese Jiu Jitsu, though they do have their differences, most of the techniques are the same. I implore you to do your own research into it 👍.
@@crazykid227 judo is japanese jujutsu. It is called kano ryu jujutsu.
@@Supermomo2007 Kano Ryu Jujitsu is what judo was first called, and still, focus was changed from real life combat which included striking to mostly grappling.
@@crazykid227 in my judo dojo we train both aspects
But the problem is they are in combat and not everything works out as plan or you even have time to plan. Yes there is flaw but it one of the best scene
100% and it's still a great BJJ scene from John Wick.
in real life if you dont have control you are fucked
True
@@ScenicFights its judo scene
People get exhausted quickly, kata fails
I like how you mentioned Judo separately. Sometimes people forget they're siblings, they work well as a complete system
We have so much respect for Judo. If you know any great Judo movie fight scenes, feel free to share on our Community tab on our RUclips page.
Man I know exactly how you feel. As a judoka, who practices BJJ for my judo, i get so pissed when ppl forget bjj’s bigger (and better) brother
Diogo Foresti Castro Judo by itself wouldn’t get you as far in MMA as BJJ or wrestling.
@@trevorrovert3103 is that the ultimate goal? I'm not sure that was mentioned. Also you're talking about a sport...
Ye bjj think they invented the arm bar 😂
The fact that they chose jiu jitsu as their main fight choreography is amazing. Even if they used weapons. At the end of the day it’s a movie. Not real life . But 100% dope
Keanu Reeves, Common, Chad Stahelski and the Machado Family did an excellent job doing the fight scenes in John Wick.
This is awesome for those that cannot fully appreciate the fights except for the flashy and big moves that were choreographed. Thank you for taking the time to also explain what could have been done in a real-life fight to kick some real ass.
It looked like Common's character was tightening his tie which was how he was choking him.
Correct he was using John's tie, which was black so thsts why they had a hard time seeing what he was joking wick with in that night scene
yea I was thinking a tie or a Gi choke
@@sarrowthehedgehog Yea when I rewatched the second movie I realized that.
Took a ground fighting class with a NC State Trooper who took like 5+ years off to go to Brazil and train in BJJ. He ended up metaling in the Olympics, and then went back to working as a Trooper. Learned so much from him, but had my ass handed to me every time...
That sounds familiar.
"Sambo Steve" Koepfer worked as a fight coordinator on John Wick 3. He is in NY also. You should have him on to discuss these fight scenes.
That choke using the jacket is actually very effective we use it in the military when we can’t get full back control
John Wick is also wearing a tie. He’s choking him with the tie.
Seriously, this channel deserves more subscriptions.

Usually I get all defensive when says anything about john wick lol but these guys are great I love how they actually act out and explain the moves rather than just commentating
Appreciate it! We understand it's a movie and sacrifices has to be made in techniques for film entertainment, but we love how Keanu Reeves and Director Chad Stahelski did their best to use legit judo/bjj techniques in their fight choreography. It gives it a sense of realism.
Really had to explain the armbar while still resting your legs on the gentleman 😂😂🤷🏽♂️
He used to BJJ How-to videos. Almost 10 years ago. I'm glad he's gotten this far

I’ll take his word for it he’s got the cauliflower ears
Lol. I'm only a martial arts hobbyists. When I see cauliflower ears. Get intimidated
@@Joobkl You and me both, man.
Joobkl you can get a cauliflower by just constantly bruising the ear for a long time
Exactly what I was thinking.
I once told my boss "before you fight anyone in the street, look at the ears."
I remember when I first saw this movie I had just gotten my blue belt and I was so psyched to see such realistic fighting and especially involving jiu jitsu. this video was a great breakdown of that scene
Appreciate it! If you have any recommendations for other BJJ fight scenes you’d like to see broken down, let us know!
Wow the way u guys explain this from the fight scene plus showing an demonstration was incredibly professional from level to the other. Keep it up guys.

Imagine he is showing how to break a wrist and he actually breaks that guy's wrist
Common was doing a lapel choke variant from the side. Since he was standing he'd have to either pull him up or come down to get that cross collar choke. It is a real technique lol.
I love the video, the whole time you have control of Logan I can just see how badly his instincts are telling him to break out xD I love to see real fighting spirit.
This took me right back to BJJ classes when I was a kid. Great breakdown of the merits and flaws of the scene. Thanks!

You guys should breakdown the subway car knife fight in John wick 2 as well.

These guys are great, not condescending, not arrogant and seem to be fans. I would certainly train with them.
Precisely why I subscribed! I enjoy how down to earth and low key they are. Same here, I'd train with them.
I hope you put out some more scene analysis videos. Digging them a lot. Can tell you both understand and appreciate your crafts to a high degree and it comes across well.
Tripping on acid and watching fight breakdowns,
It's the Joe Rogan experience
loved this. i'm not a fan of breaking down fight scenes from just any movie, i have to like the movie to care, but this was awesome! and i like how you guys aren't afraid to get really technical, while simultaneously demonstrating that sometimes the realistic stuff just isn't to watch, so some fantasy still makes a good action movie. SO wished i could take a class (for fun, i'm not a fighter) with you guys in NY. i just think it would be an amazing time
This really puts everything in the movie, from choreography, camera work, training and execution, into perspective
3:20 you gotta love that trigger finger.
lmao pew pew. We couldn't afford a gun prop.
Awesome breakdown, as always! Can't wait to see Chapter 4. 😃 👍
Entertaining concise and clearly explained, I learnt both jiu jitsu and had some classic john wick fun, thank you
I love the video. It's very informative and kinda inspired to take BJJ!. Ps. low-key impressed how white Chad's socks are despite rolling around on the mat 🤣🤣🤣
Any chance you guys might ever go over that turkish bath scene from Eastern Promises? One of the best knife fight scenes I've ever watched.
Chad's explanations are amazing, very VERY good explanations of leverage and placement!
This is really good. I especially like the choke explanation. I've seen too many unrealistic clothing chokes before, so it was nice to hear someone address the right way (or one option, anyway) to do it
I'll let Chad hear your praises!
I think Common was using John’s tie to choke him
The first throw is called Kuchiki Daoshi (Dead Tree Drop Throw) great old school judo throw. Used to be one of my favorites.
John wasn't trying to kill Common, throughout the fight he seemed to be emptying the clip
Yeah, I was gonna say.. Dude empties a 7 round mag into 7 people in a matter of seconds but he's missing shots because of some grappling? He also leaves Common alive (more or less) at the end of their fight.
You got me, I subscribed. I really love seeing all these moves broke down and explained. You guys would probably get more views and subscribers if you just showed techniques and breakdowns in your respective arts instead of movie stuff but that's just my opinion. Either way I subscribed and I hope to see some more techniques thoroughly explained. Keep up the great work!
Again great vid! Very educational and concise
Thanks again Jon for the support!
Really glad I found this channel. You guys do incredibly solid breakdown videos
Appreciate it! New Donnie Yen Flash Point Breakdown up now!
I think they went that far into the arm bar, so you could even catch it was an armbar. (same reason sword attacks are telegraphed and empty beats are inserted into swordplay, to make it clear what's happening.)
Great Great GreaT Review!! You guys are awesome coming from an FMA and BJJ guy!
Been looking for videos like this. Subbed!
Wow. Now the scenes make more sense. Cool explanation
The inversion demonstration was smooth AF
Very respectable technical analysis. Great video.
"If you guys have, I'm sure you'll leave it in the comments section."
Flashpoint SPL, please. Donnie Yen has incorporated a lot of BJJ/MMA ground fighting into some of his fight scenes, eg armbars

These videos are dope! Views are so underrated. But overall let’s build this channel into a goal! 💪🏼
Love this kind of reaction videos. But I will always say, in the middle of a death or life fight mind works different than a mind at ease examining a why and how stuff happens. Just like playing a videogame and losing and then watching a person playing the game and noticing the mistakes or better ways to do it. Still an awesome video and learned something new from it.
The demonstrations are sick 🔥🔥
I'm curious to see your breakdown of the Netflix Daredevil and Punisher fights.

Wow this was quality AF thanks!
What about the open guard he uses at the Red Circle when he charges through the door? I want to see that broken down.
Please breakdown the fight scenes in John Wick Chapter 3, they are so good! 😃
Ahhh, I wanted them to comment about the arm crook disarm Keanu does to Common in this fight.
To me it looked like Common was either trying a cross collar choke or working to set up a baseball bat choke (which is a pretty brutal choke) but the way he had his hands placed was a little weird but I think this helps to show how when in a fight with adrenaline and your mind running, sometimes mistakes happen and you just have to work with what your opponent gives you.
I love this video, rewatching it, possibly the reason why wick was able to grab his arm was bc commons hips were past the elbow, giving wick space to drive his elbow down, thoughts? Ps love the channel.
Fantastick Breakdown Keep On Going bros. Love to learn it someday at your class.

2:25 perfect counter to that grip is a bicep slicer. As soon as they let go of their hand then you can easily go back into an armbar or switch to a kimura.
I don't do any martial arts and don't know too much about them but daym these vids are addicting and really well made

@Scenic Fights @2:37, that spider guard looks like it is partly on the elbow controlling the flex and if not, I think that is the way it was indented to be. In your example you are completely on the bicep.
this will come helpful for when my class does live training
Thank you for explaining.
There was a video I watched similar to this kind of thing and I remember a quote from it "its great that John wick is trying to be realistic with everything but it also have some fantasy in order for it to be interesting if it was 110% realistic it wouldn't be too interesting to watch,"
Common doesn't get enough credit for his role and the work he did in this movie... Of all the characters in the Wick movies his character gave John the most trouble...
100% Common did a great job in his role. We wish he would return somehow.
I think one aspect of this scene is that John really doesn't want to kill common especially because in the story it's barely been a week since his culling of the mafiya while commons character is full on trying to kill wick for killing his charge so John empties the clip to try and defuse the fight and head to the continental to enforce the ceasefire.
You think that? Really)
Hey wasn't this the guy from the howcast grappling for mma series?? I loved their techniques!
John Wick could’ve finished the fight easily if he had just pulled out the heel hook

@@josephjoshy5751 We're still in lockdown here in NYC. Not much else to do.
Oh forgot about that
You two are very good and humble teachers
Logan and Chad are super awesome and as humble as they can be.
For the front cross collar choke cross your arms before grabbing the collar then pull outwards. I did get put out with that choke once.
The jacket choke can work if you tighten both sides of the collar around the neck and pull toward you. The angle in the movie is questionable as it's focused more on one artery instead of both by the look of it. The most effective way is if the person's facing you and you cross your arms while grabbing both sides of the collar and pulling the person toward you while also making sure the fabric is wrapped effectively around both arteries as the pressure can be used to cut off blood flow to the brain by various degrees. Another reason as to why anyone shouldn't wear loose clothing in matters like that, anything can be used as a weapon.
Kudos to both you guys AND the fight choreographer💖. A TON of technical stuff that was both cool to see and amazing for you guys to be able to even identify what in the name of god was happening so you could explain it to us. Thanks for sharing your knowledge🙂
The choke was likely ment as a blood choke. Using the jacket in this way is similar to what the United States Marine Corps teaches in their MCMAP.
I think that Common was actually tightening his tie to choke him. Hard to see, though.
I think John Wicks arms is hurt, thats why he can't shoot him in the scene. It was the same arm that got twisted. Great video guys!
I think the last choke that Common tried was both hands crossing to the opposite jacket side and pulling it into the neck with his leg over John Wick's shoulder for more pressure on the pulling of the jacket...maybe?
This and the knife dude working together is awesome
I think how wick grabbed his arm to escape the arm bar/ avoided his elbow getting broken was I think I saw him roll his hips towards the attacker and kinda get up on one hip so he could have better extension of his left arm to grab his right arm
These breakdown are cool
That's it i'm going to learn B.J.J as soon as the lock down ends.
It's a very welcoming art.
@@derrickrobinson7269 thanks for the info.
@@Davewest85 yeah give it a shot i just started the other day and honestly the gym im at has an amazing culture it seems, they never push you too hard as a beginner so you dont feel to nervous about what you are doing and when i have sparred with the higher belts they let you try your techniques with little resistance compared to what they would use against someone more experienced. It is also one hell of a workout be prepared to be out of breath when rolling/sparring
