Also you made recommendations on best formats for rendering 8 and 10 bit HDR, but what is the optimal format for rendering 8 bit HLG footage edited in Rec709?

I've attached the cable that came with the M3 to my ZV-1 and it's not controlling any functions at all. Isn't it supposed to control the zoom, start and stop recording and the shutter function to take still pictures? Or, is it just to keep the ZV-1 battery charged?

Leaving this comment for people looking into getting a ZV1. It's a great camera to learn with for beginners. I wasn't as much into the tech part of cameras such as the aperture, ISO and shutter speed in the beginning, so I just let it auto everything and it does a good enough job. But the real power of the ZV1 is when you get curious enough to start learning what all the different settings do and what the camera is really capable of. As he mentioned, it's very portable because you don't need to worry about lenses but I would suggest getting a wide and macro lens attachment for a little more variety. Is it the best camera? No. Does it get the job done for the price? Absolutely. I use it to make cinematic vlogs and it does a great job. I will eventually upgrade to something else, but I really love this camera. If you want to start a channel and want a camera to use that's not your cellhone that has more control over your image, I highly recommend it! TLDR: This camera is good for beginners in filming or photography, you can let it auto everything and it will look pretty good, but you can get more use out of it once you learn different settings and can see what it's really capable of.

I‘ve just picked one of these cameras up but too many items are greyed out in the menu..And it is only offering me 25 p 100 m and 25p 60m...I have tried the factory reset bit it made no diffeence. I am sure I have missed a trick here but cant work it out. Am going to post my sos to some other posts..

Good examples of photos but explanation why it happens is misleading, it is not about sensor ability to capture light. If you do a photo on a full frame camera using 50mm F2.8 lens, then you can crop center part of the image you get the same photo as you will get with APS-C camera. So, the only different that APS-C does crop. As it does crop then subject becomes larger and you do several steps backwards to allow the subject fit into camera and when you are more far away from subject (but real focal length remains the same) you get less bokeh. Still great video. Like it!

The ability of remotely control is the feature I need. But to get it fully useful, I would need the camera preview on the phone, to actually see what I am filming. Is it doable in your opinion?

God, you made some supper videos. I dug out my ZV-1. I forgot how to use it.

I've tried both this lens and camera and I cant get the camera to be super steady while holding it by hand. I enabled the active steadyshot with manual 20mm focal length set but it doesnt seem to be helping. any ideas? I'm not sure if I'm asking too much out of this camera+lens combo or something is wrong with my image stabilization or I just have very shaky hands. I have steadyshot comparison videos if you're interested.

Great video, thanks! I'm looking to buy my first proper camera but would prefer to stick to the APS-C lenses due to the lower price, size and weight. I was looking at the Sony A7c but would it make more sense to go for an APS-C camera like the Sony a6600, or does pairing an APS-C lens with a full frame camera still have its advantages?
