    Watched until the end! I love these videos so much. Thank you for sharing! I thought I was going to be really disappointed with this lens but I found that for the price it's really great, especially for someone who is just buying their first APSC camera. If you already have APSC lenses then I don't think it would be worth it, but for $100 extra in the kit it's totally worth it for me! :)

    I just started looking into photography and your channel. Need camera for work related stuff but also wanted to get most out of it, so I've watched some reviews. And yours pushed me towards ZV-E10 which is what I'm going to get. So, tell that to Sony and ask for 10% commission! Buy body only and consider the price difference as a discount for Sigma 16mm 1.4f and use it with clear image zoom in 4k. Viltrox 23mm 1.4f is also great and a cheap lens.

    • @dbvares8745
      @dbvares8745  2 года назад +2

      Sorry for the late reply Marko, agree those are good recommendations. I think the advantage of the kit lens is a decent real zoom range, even more with clear image, plus very compact size.
      For almost anything else you’ll find primes like those which will deliver much more quality, but the kit lens is a sometimes useful all rounder:)

      If on budget
      Sigma 16 of viltrox 13 are good for “talkin heads” but my choice are
      30mm sigma f 1.4 and Sigma 18/50 f 2.8
      2 lens that cover pretty much all my needs❤

    another great quality video! I appreciate all the excellence you put into these reviews. you're very thorough while at the same time being straight to the point and funny and on top of that you include quite a lot of B roll - the perfect combo!
    I'm contemplating between getting this kit lens or the tamron 17-70mm... any idea? my main use: run and gun style vlogging, travel vlogging, capturing quick moments of our young children (a lot of moments at home indoors without a lot of lighting).
    Another question... would the kit lens paired with ZV-E10 produce more bokeh than ZV1? better low light performance than ZV1?

      Hey WTK, sorry for the delayed reply - thought I’d cleared these one but clearly not 😂
      Really appreciate the nice feedback:)
      I’d suggest the 17-70 is going to be better in many situations: better in lens stabilisation, wider aperture; larger zoom range. Just be aware the 17 end means it’s slightly less wide so you might want a grip extension for vlogging.
      As for zv1 vs kit lens this comparison should provide some extra info: ruclips.net/video/s1maRhh3_Jw/видео.html

      @@dbvares8745 thanks for your response! since back when I first asked this question, the sigma 18-50mm F/2.8 came out and now I'm way more interested in that than the tamron. I was looking for something lightweight but also fast lens. I know it doesn't have OSS but I don't mind the extra work to gyro stabilize in catalyst browse.
      also, since then, I got news from Sony that I won the ZV-E10 from their sony vlog challenge. so I'm not contemplating ZV-1 anymore. Can't wait until they finally send me the camera and then im going to binge watch all your ZV-E10 videos again, like the ones about settings, etc.

    Love your presenting style, great video! I just ordered the ZV-E10 and went for the kit lens as it seemed like a good cheap and versatile option for getting started, and I'm liking what I see. I'm somewhat of a bedroom RUclipsr so stabilisation isn't a big priority but I have to say I'm certainly impressed with that aspect. Is there a reasonably priced macro lens you'd recommend for this camera? Would be handy for some of the close up electronics stuff that I do.

    • @dbvares8745
      @dbvares8745  2 года назад

      Hey CAR, really appreciate you taking the time to share the nice feedback:)
      There’s a few dedicated macro lenses for e Mount aps c. I haven’t tested any directly but I’d generally say Sonys own lenses are always pretty reliable. The other thing to watch out for is in lens stabilisation- when you’re so close even small shake can be apparent in macro shots so it the lens has stabilisation built for thst it can be helpful.
      Last thing to consider is whether a standard lens with a good close focus distance could do a nice macro job as well as other things. I’m a fan of the sigma 16mm f1.4 for close ups so that’s worth a look. See what you think: ruclips.net/video/vsvR5NJkmKg/видео.html

    Definitely not a great lens but have used it a lot on my a6500. It's small and AF was good. OSS was there but not good for video. Better then no OSS though. Was pretty bad at 16mm for video so always needed to zoom in to like 18-20mm to clean up the edges. In 4K it cropped so that was good and picture was nice in 4K. Sony's tend to be soft in 1080p generally even with a good lense.

      You are far too kind my friend, but I very much appreciate it:)
      As for the Q - you won’t be able to use any actual e-Mount lenses that would work on a6400 with the zv1 due to the lack of an appropriate lens Mount on the zv1.
      What you might be able to use are lens filters. The same adapter you attach to the zv1 to use things like the Ulanzi wide angle lens can accept 52mm lens filter attachments. I reviewed a cheap one from Amazon a while back so you can get an idea of the results: ruclips.net/video/ebEswa7u80k/видео.html

    Excellent review as usual. I recently ordered the Sony FE 28-70mm f/3.5-5.6 lens for my a6400. The plan is to obtain full frame lenses for use with a future FX3. I thought about the 16-50, but with the 28-70 I get the equivalent of 42-105mm range. Which, as a filmmaker, I think is a pretty useful range for many situations.
    To be honest, I am still thinking about getting the ZV-E10 as a temporary stop gap between now and the FX3. Although, if the maybe-soon-to-be-released Sony A7iv has 10-bit internal recording, that may be my next camera. It all depends on what the final specs are. I've heard that the expected price of the A7iv is around $2,500. Personally, I would find it insane to charge that amount for another 8-bit camera. The upcoming Panasonic GH6 will record up to 10-bit 4K 120fps internally, and it is priced at $2,500. But, I'm still not confident about its autofocus abilities. Which is why I'm still hovering over Sony. Anyway....You're doing great work with your ZV-E10 videos, etc. See you in the next one.

      Will be interesting to hear your 28-70 thoughts-since I got the a7c and kit lens I never actually tried that one but agree the crop focal ranges are actually really nice for filmmaking.
      Pretty damn accurate predictions for the a7iv too 😂 While a few things might have been different it ended up up very close to what I was hoping for, so now impatiently waiting for mine to get delivered:)

      @@dbvares8745 Yes I pre-ordered the A7iv myself. Very excited. I'm watching every video on the A7iv I can find. I don't shoot a lot of slow motion, so I'm not concerned about the 4K 60 crop. And I don't mind the monitor resolution. My A7C has 921,000 pixel res, and I don't have any problems working with it. Nor do I judge my stills based on what I see on a 3-inch monitor, so I don't share the frustration others do about the A7iv monitor. Anyway...I know December 30th will be here before I know it. I would never buy this lens again. I have had about 3 I think - and all of them have broken... in the same way.... there is one small part of the zoom mechanism that is a flimsy piece of plastic. When it goes - your lens is screwed. After the last time it happened (on a trip in Japan) I decided to get the Mrs an 18-135mm - which is honestly a much better option for the APS-C bodies in general (but are not as wide for vlogging). I also bought the 20mm F2.8 for situations where we just want something compact.

    • @dbvares8745
      @dbvares8745  2 года назад

      Dean that sounds like a headache for sure haha! I tend to agree - there's a lot better options than the kit lens; where it wins is low cost and modest flexibility so I can see how it ends up playing the kit lens role. I do like the idea of the reach on the 18-135, but as I have the 18-105 already I'm probably better looking at something more telephoto. For £30 second hand I don't mind the kit lens even if it breaks haha! Hope you're doing well and have a great weekend:)

    Quick question - If you're making talking head videos and leave the Steady Shot OFF, then it should give us a wide angle of 16mm lens. Let's say that the camera is placed arms length during filming, then would the kit lens with Steady Shot turned off be good to use for these type of talking head videos, or would we need to upgrade lens to something like a Sigma 16mm f/1.4 lens?? I'm new to creating RUclips Vids, and was jsut curious to know if the kit lens would still be good to use for talking head videos. What's your thoughts on this??

    I am still not sure if I should go for ZVE10 or wait for new Canon M60. I am now using canon M50 kit lens at 18mm as my favourite spot for my studio set up. If I get sigma 16mm it will be too wide. I don't know any other affordable lens at 18mm range. I have EF-M 22mm but it is too tight. 18mm is equivalent of 28mm on full frame, but I don't see any 28mm f1.4 on market in reasonable prices.

    • @dbvares8745
      @dbvares8745  3 года назад

      Hey SSA, a good solution to that issue is clear image zoom. On don’t cameras that uses the fact that the 4k is oversampled to let you zoom in digitally with no loss in visual quality. So with the sigma, if you want a 28mm field of view you could just use clear image zoom around 1.1x to 1.2x and get that result:)
      Hope that helps. You can see an example of clear image zoom in action right at the start of this video: ruclips.net/video/9LqORPNyj1E/видео.html

      Hey Ella, sorry for the delayed reply, generally I don’t. I just shoot in HLG3 and then map the colours into standard dynamic range using colour space override like in the method shown here: ruclips.net/video/88lUbO7hOA4/видео.html
      Hope you’re doing well and having a good day 👍

    If it's your first lens anyways. It's a no brainer for me. Only 100 dollars extre you know.

    I like the content, but all of your videos look like they've been shot in S-Log and run through a blur filter.

      Hey Sundog, appreciate the kind words, but sounds like the visuals are weird for you. Everything is HLG3 rather than SLog and in 4k everything in focus looks sharp to me. Weird but hopefully the reason will become clear at some point 😂
      Thanks for watching, consider subbing if you enjoyed and have a great day 👍
