    I enjoyed this video as I own both M50 and ZV-E10. You did not mention that the 1080p quality on the M50 is way better than the ZV-E10 especially with the excellent and cheap EF-M 22mm f2 plus the Sigma trio. The 4K is of course way better on the ZV-E10 as it uses downsampled 6K and that is its main benefit but not everyone needs 4K. I purchased the ZV-E10 for long form content as it has no limit and I often shoot for up to 3 hours. I use 1080p to keep file sizes manageable but even with sharpening turned up in camera and the excellent Sigma 16mm f1.4, 1080p quality is still mediocre. If the M50 had no recording limit, then I would not have bought the ZV-E10 as I find it’s 1080p good enough for me especially when exported as a 4K video to counter the RUclips compression. I also prefer the ergonomics, menu and touch screen functionality of the M50 over the ZV-E10. If you add the Smallrig cage with the additional grip to the ZV-E10, then handling is much improved and on a par with the M50.
    If you only need good 1080p and can work with the 30 min recording limit, the M50 is your better bet. If you need no recording limit, excellent 4K or the option to grade your footage, then the ZV-E10 is the way better camera provided you can work around the awful rolling shutter in 4K.

      Hey Martin, thanks for the really interesting and insightful comment. You’re right: because I opted not to pick up and m50 I couldn’t talk about the 1080p side by side in an objective way like the gesture differences, plus as I rarely shoot 1080 I would have been stepping outside my real use, but I’ve heard similar from quite a few people. It goes back to that point around if you’re mainly in 1080 then the zv-e10 loses several advantages and it’s a closer contest.
      Agree about the smallrig grip too. They recently reached out to me for a review and I’ve been testing it: the improvement to ergonomics is really nice and I’m hoping to get my thoughts in the video for that up in the next few weeks.
      Great comment and really interesting stuff:)

      Hey Dr Wasim, great to hear from you again and appreciate the nice feedback:)
      It seems to me like canon isn’t focussing much on the lower and midrange entry points for their range at the moment - I get the sense many were disappointed with the m50m2 and wish for an M6m2. Interesting how Sony really went after that segment with zv1 and zv-e10.
      Hope you’re doing well and having a great weekend 👍

    Great video DB as always and your other videos were some of the reasons why I went with ZV-E10. Curious to know, how did you get the Catalyst Browse footage so sharp and crisp? Have found that Catalyst Browse makes all the lovely crisp 4k footage from the camera look quite soft and mushy, so much so it looks even lower quality than 1080p. Too soft for me that I'd rather not use it

    Canon EF-M series glass became known as an effective dead-end range before the ZV-E10 came out so was eliminated as an option for me. Originally I used A Mount Minolta/sony glass for analog/digital photography, but the range of E mount lenses available is so massive and budget friendly - also Canon Cripple Crop and recording limits

    • @dbvares8745
      @dbvares8745  2 года назад

      Great colour and insights as ever Panzer, appreciate you sharing:) Completely agree too. When I was deciding Sony v canon in general I looked at the top of the ranges for video as a potential future upgrade path and the lens ecosystems. I preferred a7s3 (now the a7iv ticks a lot of what I’d like) to the r5 since I’m a video first guy and e Mount looked much bigger and more varied than the canon glass options.
      No regrets on my decision logic so far 😂
      Hope you’re doing well and having a good day 👏

    • @dbvares8745
      @dbvares8745  2 года назад

      I agree, the rolling shutter is annoying for sure; on the plus side it won’t impact static shots and if you use catalyst stabilisation that seems to fix the rolling shutter too. So it doesn’t get in the way TOO much 😂

    Love the way you do camera reviews. When doing a search for "ZV-E10 accessories" on Amazon, one of the results that shows up is an Ulanzi wide-angle lens attachment onto the "original lens" (as they describe it). What do you think that might be? The kit lens? it says it can turn 24mm into 18mm... how would that work? would that work as good as getting the samyang AF 12mm? would catalyst browse gyro stabilization not be as effective as samyang AF 12mm? What are your thoughts?

    • @dbvares8745
      @dbvares8745  2 года назад

      Hey WTK, I’m familiar with the accessory. It’s essentially a stick on wide adapter for the kit lens. It might provide a wider view but won’t give the wider aperture and therefore bokeh and low light performance of the Samyang.
      All my Ulanzi experience has been good so I’d expect the adapter to work well but it’s just taking the kit lens (strength and weakness included) and widening the view-I’d personally go for the samyang since it’s purpose built for the job. I wouldn’t expect major changes in stabilisation between either option.
      Hope that helps and you have a great day 💪

    I am a beginner in photography and I am looking for a mirrorless camera solely for photography. Can you tell me which camera, Sony ZV E10 or Canon M50 Mark ii, is better for photography including low light performance? Or are both cameras equally good when it comes to photography?

    A few years back Canon had much better digital stabilization but a a very soft image

    • @dbvares8745
      @dbvares8745  2 года назад

      Hey X99, great to hear from you again, and yeah it’s interesting how the comparative advantages move over time. I think a few years back Sony was a fair way ahead in mirorless and stabilisation in full frame but canon has now come back and on stabilisation arguably gone a bit ahead on ibis (but not vs catalyst, I love that 😂)
      Thanks for sharing the interesting stuff and have a great day 💪

    I have Canon M50 and I mostly record 1080p talking heads videos in studio. For this Canon M50 is good enough. I could use 120fps in 1080 and 4k without crop. Sadly M50 mark ‼️ did not delivered what I wanted. If I was buying camera now and my budget was that tight, it would be Sony. Canon seems to abandon m mount and budget friendly market for modern content creators. M50 is good for photos, but not if you create content for social media. Canon focus on RF mount that is too expensive for most content creators. Who needs that quality when RUclips compression will lower the quality anyway.

    • @dbvares8745
      @dbvares8745  2 года назад

      Hey SSA, great to hear from you and some really thoughtful and well made points again 💪
      I agree - I’m not sure what canons strategy is for the lower and mid market entry points, while I think Sony has flaws at that level the unified e Mount and consistent upgrade path to their more expensive models are a more compelling offer in my view.
      Great stuff and thanks for sharing 👍😁

    I will still never get it. The RX100 always gets overlooked. For vlogers, yes the EV-X has a couple of extra features. But the RX100 still can do most. The rx100 has an EVF - so if you are out and about in bright conditions if you have an EV-x you have no chance of focusing on anything around you - you just can’t see the screen in bright conditions. When it comes to the EV-10 how many times do you have to swap lenses. On both tgecEV-1 and RX100 you can put a magnetic wide angle adapter on it. Rx100 has no rolling shutter as per the ev-1. If you draw a vent diagram, the rx100 stilll cuts into more features than any other camera, but it seems to have dropped off the list of cameras reviewed or compared - very odd. Ain’t changing mine - not even for the new A7IV - it is not a matter of cost - I could afford it.

    • @dbvares8745
      @dbvares8745  2 года назад

      Hey Colin, thanks for sharing the really thoughtful and interesting intel. I agree with your points: the RX is a strong choice but I think the price and marketing are mainly why it doesn’t have as much focus as the zv1 or zv-e10. I would miss catalyst stabilisation personally but the important thing is you’ve got something that works well for you 👍💪

    Well the biggest reasons no one should invest in the eos-m system anymore is because it seems that Canon is no longer investing in the eos-m system any longer haha. So ya there's that. And their current lens line up is sparse AND expensive. And no other 3rd party companies want to seem to help them out either, which I don't blame them for, and therefore they're a dying duck as far as anyone can tell

    • @akyerit
      @akyerit 2 года назад +1

      And I owned practically all of the eos-m models once upon a time, mind you (the m1, m2, m3, m6)

      Hey Dax, awesome to hear from you again:) And as ever, some really thoughtful high quality analysis too. I didn’t want to lean to in to licking the Ef m Mount without direct experience but you’ve summarised the situation really well compared to me trying to be diplomatic 😂
      Before picking up the zv1 as my first dedicated camera way back near the start of the pandemic I looked very closely at the m50 and just found too many limitations and downsides-the lens ecosystem was part of why I went Sony, knowing I’d pick up the bigger sensor models in due cour but have similar features, colours etc to match cameras.
      Hope you’re doing well my friend and having a great weekend 💪

      @@dbvares8745 word up! Always happy to see a new video of yours for sure. And btw I am currently, surprisingly interested now in that new zve10 thanks to Sigmas newly released 17-50mm 2.8. Any thoughts? That new lens seems incredible, honestly. Like game changing. And the zve10 is actually a comfortably portable size. My only real concern is the lowlight capabilities (or lack there of)
      I currently own the a7c and the zv1 and love them both to death. But I find myself not taking the a7c out as often because for me, it's actually a little on the chunky side. It's definitely a commitment if I want to bring it out. And sometimes I'm not in love with the photos out of the zv1 even though they're incredibly sharp and even great in lowlight situations. But there is still something uninspiring at times about the zv1 for stills (maybe it's the default 24mm angle that I don't like). The video is actually extremely impressive though, especially for its size. So I don't know. I wish I had the money to own all three haha. But I've heard good and bad about the lowlight abilities of the zve10 which I guess is the question I am throwing at you. And I can only imagine with that new sigma lens, it could be a highly capable little beast. Oh ya actually I'm also aittle concerned about the pretty big crop factor that the image stabe will put on my picture too. It's all making me think about selling them all and going back to my Sifma fp again. Which had crap for af. And only digital stabe. But the lowlight and picture and color science was incredible....

    • @dbvares8745
      @dbvares8745  2 года назад +1

      I can fully understand the quandary at hand 😂 I’d love to try out the new sigma but the channel size as it is the only companies reaching out tend to be the accessories guys and I’m supposed to be moving house soon so gotta watch the spending for the time being haha 😂 I’ll hopefully get to it in the future but I guess I’d say I’ve never had a sigma that I didn’t really like. The 16 and 30 f1.4 crop and my current fav the 35mm f1.4 full frame are all fantastic so I’d be shocked if the new zoom isn’t!
      As for low light: with a good wide aperture lens the zve10 falls nicely between zv1 and a7c performance wise. You may not have caught it but I did a deep dive here that might help see the results (after YT compression 😂): ruclips.net/video/9oC3AFpuKPE/видео.html
      Fully agree on portability- the zve10 is nice and compact. The crop in active is annoying but I personally use it more for handheld stuff where it does a good job and can actually get more reach. For vlogging etc I always use catalyst if possible.
      I’d be interested to try the sigma fp in the future as it’s an interesting concept but my old enemies time and money need to line up first 😂
      Hope that helps a bit and really interesting stuff as ever 💪

      @@dbvares8745 absolutely! That helps a ton actually! And ya the original fp was/is an amazing technological feat in many ways, in terms of what it's capable of. In essence, and at its heart its actually a cinema camera. But it is also capable of taking gorgeous photos. Sigma has some of the best rendering in the game imo. I originally left Fuji and for a Sigma fp. But for my run-n-gun style, felt that I needed something way quicker and less hassle, hence the a7c. Only problem is what I originally stated, that I just don't take it out enough with me due to its chunky size oddly (even tho it's one of the smallest full frame cameras in existence lol!) But the fp actually was so tiny that with the right lens you could easily put it in your pants pocket! Just the af sucked immensely on that thing. Short story long lol, I find myself missing the image quality and am actually considering going back to the fp now that the prices have dropped considerably. Either way. I'll keep you posted. And thanks again for all the great feedback 👍🏽
