I already bought the game. I am just 4 games behind still. It could take a while. I have so many other RPGs still to play. Like Rune Factory. I even got the one on the Wii with the Protag from the first game. I can not play Tides of Destiny though, because every Wii copy is American and I live in Europe. Trails is great though. I hope I can play Daybreak in a timely manner.

Thanks for the overview. I got the game on release day to support the devs, but i still need to finish CS4 and Reverie. Might not be till next year before i get to this, but it's good to know i have something good to look forward to.

This game blew me away with all the new things introduced. I loved all the characters, the new combat mechanics, Calvard itself, it was all amazing! The English cast also KILLED it with their performances. SO worth the wait!

I laughed at loud at the "WHERE ARE MY ROYALTIES?" when I played Reverie. Thanks for including it at a very relevant part of the video 👍 Also, one note of correction -- if you press a button during battle (L2 on PS4), you can see the extended turn order, unfortunately not cast times but everything else. Not sure what the key is for PC but it should be in one of the help tutorials

I went back and forth over being excited for this game. The trailers didn't really interest me, and the setting was a bit jarring. Then I played the demo and loved it so much that I could barely wait until the full release. I definitely enjoyed it, but do feel like it's a bit overhyped. A few chapters did start to drag, and after 10 games, some bits just got stale. One thing I definitely appreciated was the stronger villain presence in this game.

I'm currently doing my new game+ run of the game to collect all the trophies I couldn't get in my first play through and the game is fantastic. I have the same nitpicks as you do, the voice acting and the turn order, and in other games, this might be a deal breaker, but trails does everything else so well that it's merely a minor annoyance. Here's the single thing I can say about trials: this franchise has ruined gaming for me. Trying playing another JRPG, or another game, after playing trails, when your bar for world-building, story and characters has been set so high, and be disappointed as other games fall so short of what trails accomplishes every time. For a guy who plays games for story, trails ruins the experience of other games by comparison.

I'm guessing the thing with the voice acting not getting extra dub lines like Reverie was due to NISA prioritizing getting Daybreak 2 out quicker what with the surprise early 2025 release date.

I played the game back in 2022 with a fan patch and loved it, though after replaying it in English i honestly loved it even more that i did a NG+ playthrough to finish off achievements (only two more to go on Steam at least) but overall i think this game is a 8.5 or 9 out of 10, it has so much going for it and i can’t wait to see the next game

I always get excited for a new tales game, then I play it for 20 minutes and the first boss battle reminds me why i did care for the series to begin with...

Keep in mind this game is woke. VERY woke. So if you dont enjoy silly trans nonsense - be aware. But in the "West" people are forced to approve woke or get cancelled, so of cource it has positive reviews.

Ot3 : each character main job should be exclusive for them, plus their exclusive main job can be upgraded twice for example from a thief to assassin to master assassin. For their secondary job it should be other jobs non exlusive to them that can also be upgraded but only once instead of twice. Also they should improve the game meshes and textures into more highly detailed game with ultrawide support. The game is already great in the first one then massive improvement in the second one. Cant wait for the third one. I assume as early as early 2016. That or bravely default 3 then octopath traveler 3 somewhere in 2018. But people like octopath traveler IP more than bravely IP so we'll see.

Gamecube: tech glitch, 60fps smoother combat arts and also easier to dodge bosses and monsters attacks, audio volume with music, sfx, voices is all normalized and audio is higher quality kbps and no annoying s’s when people are talking with the s letter in it. Ps2 and ps2 being ported to all consoles and pc: 30fps combat arts seem not very smooth and harder to dodge boss and monster attacks, audio is crazy loud and lower audio quality and s’s sound like crap when people are talking with letter a letter s in a word, Casino has terrible chances so you are better off farming gald and just playing it for fun if you don’t mind losing a ton especially the slot machines, no tech glitch for both s and t arts, only two added cinematic scenes in the whole entire game which lasts for about 4-10 seconds which is getting the thing to fly in the game for first time and said character getting a power I will not spoil both of which are added in first half of the game, wrong character talking in very few scenes in later half of the game I think one was in Falnoir and another somewhere else which is jarring to hear someone talking in another character’s body, text errors that was never fixed from the ps2 game such as concentration saying in ( ) that it is not always affective which was a mistype that is only in the ps2 game and was messed up thinking it acted like glory which it doesn’t concentration never gets interrupted and the gamecube version words it correctly says Concentrate and to the right it says <constant> and then below Concentrate it says this: Avoid staggering while casting And yes I still my tales of symphonia on my gamecube in my house to this day, just played it yesterday and yes concentrat 100% of the time never hets interupted a very useful and helpful Compound Ex Skill especially if playing on the hardest difficulty.

Loud audio that you complain about is from the ps2 port of this game, Namco only upped the graphics from the ps2 port, they never changed anything that came from the ps2 it has been proven from people on the pc deep diving into the pc port. If you wan to play with audio at the right volume and 60fps and tech glitch to be able to have t and s arts you need to play on Dolphin or gamecube. You should not buy another port of this version it is a pile of crap and every new port is getting more new bugs and problems, not to mentioned the first tower in beginning of game meeting Remiel for first time the scene is missing a couple boxes worth of dialogue that they never add in and it makes it makes it a crappy boring scene and makes less sense.

Never been a huge fan of Mana, but I want to give this a shot. Just waiting on a proper PS5 to play it on

Really excited for this game, but as always, the biggest problem is that there are more great games coming out than I have time to play. I haven't played Gran Blue Fantasy or Elydan Chronicles Hundred Heroes yet, not because both games don't look fantastic, but because there just isn't enough time to get to all of these.

There's a pretty lady in a leotard and honestly these days that's all you need to get me to sign on for your videogame.

I loved this demo so much! the combat and exploration felt SO perfect to me, a nice breezy summer action JRPG. I ended up buying Trials of Mana (it's great) and preordering this one, so I guess you can say yeah it was an effective demo lol I do have to say I'm a little surprised at people saying the combat feels clunky? I believe them but I am VERY sensitive to this kind of thing in ARPGs and it really didn't bother me. I think compared to some action RPGs that get very heavily praised for their combat but are far, far worse in how clunky they feel (cough cough! FF7R! cough cough cough cough!), this one is fine/good. it's not quite Ys but what is. I really enjoyed playing the girl with the fans. my biggest issue is that the Morley guy (is that his name) is so uncanny valley and I will be swapping him out of my party immediately. I also agree the faces are just a little off in general but I like the diversity.

I hope the performance does ok. Unreal engine has been a bit frustrating this generation... Granted a game's success isn't purely tied with it's performance, but if all the jittery performance shudders make me motion sick, that's no good. How does this compare to Trials of Mana remake??

Great analysis! I think this is actually why I had such a strong reaction to Date's AINI fate. I felt like it rolled his character back a lot after such an incredible arc. This game is painfully underrated, so much that I didn't even know it existed until I finished Zero Escape and was looking for more games by the same person. Went in 100% blind, best decision ever. What a great game, and what a great cast of characters. I think AINI has some fantastic moments in it and some good characters in it, but AITSF is the superior game and I think Date as a protagonist is central to why it works so well.

Why you should play Ys 8: A blue haired magical dragon girl from dinosaur times with two wives kills the existential concept of evolution and becomes a God. Which is such a fucking ludicrous main plot that you'll forget all about the GHOST PIRATE SHIP.

Out of all the characters from the Tales of series I really feel bad for Velvet. I mean my christ she has went through so much pain & trauma in her life & on top that been betrayed by the person that she somewhat looked up to. Well at the very least Velvet did got her revenge & saved the world from turned into emotionless slains so...yay

OT3 needs these things to be a perfect game (in my mind: More crossed paths. The way you described crossed paths sounds amazing. Side quests that require multiple path actions to subtlypush players into actively changing their team formation. Formation needs to be available earlier on and would help the first two points greatly. I always felt like my four characters were distant from the four that aren’t active. But, have formations earlier and having party members drop in and out would be amazing. Combo attacks and combo path actions. I know they are thinking about this because the OT1 case has them in their fights. Latent actions are amazing, but I was really coming into OT2 expecting combo attacks because it seems so obvious. Combo attacks would also help the first three points. As, characters can grow closer together in story and that be shown in combat. Secret jobs that are a mix of “you need to find the weapon to unlock the skill” and “you need to beat this mini-boss to unlock the class.” Basically. A mix of OT1 and OT2.

For Final Fantasy I definitely recommend playing FF9

I like the Ys games, but never gave the Trails games a try because I'm not very interested in turn-based combat. I'm also overwhelmed by the amount of Trails games out there. I did try this one, however, since there's a demo on PS5, which gave me over 9 hours of play time with the game. I actually enjoyed it quite a bit, though mostly because of the world and characters rather than combat. Combat at least gives the real-time option. The cutscenes were oddly inconsistent on which characters had actual spoken dialogue. It was oddly inconsistent on WHEN they'd have spoken dialogue as well. Still, that's not anything I can't work through. When the game goes on sale, I may try getting this one.

Well, I'd like to give it a try, but how to do that without tracking down a working Dreamcast or Gamecube and finding a physical copy of the game, I dunno. 😅 Maybe emulation, but I've never done that before.

One idea I have for a secret job would be spell sword. This job would add a physical weapon strike of your choice to everyone’s elemental attacks. I say go for new jobs that really shake things up.

.hack holds such a special place in my heart, such a shame they've been so neglected for so long. I recently played them back on emulator and there are definitely some significant rough spots that could be smoothed over really nicely by a modern remake. GU is good, looking forward to your thoughts if you ever play it. The story is mostly independent but is for sure referential to the original series, curious to see what your impressions would be playing it without that context, could be fun!

Grant you there's plenty that I haven't played either but going to the Final Fantasy portion; I would play four first. Not a super long game. Good story. Character building. The first game to use the ATB system. For somebody who has never played one, that would be my suggestion.

Honestly, I have a lot of games I want to try as well. However, There are two problems. 1. Some of them aren't on PC, Which prevents me from playing them. 2. They're expansive. Too expansive. I usually wait for a discount, And even then, The price is still high. Why Is it so hard for them to release old games on PC?

I quit FF after FF 12, so I'm right there with you. The golden age FFs: 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 are five of the best games of all-time, but the thirteen trilogy, 15 and 16 are uninteresting to me. Yakuza and Altelier are both worth playing. I played Ryza 1 and Like a Dragon and those are two entry points that won't leave you confused over overwhelmed. Ryza 1 is a new story and doesn't have that many connections to previous games. Like a Dragon is much more connected to the previous Yakuza games, but it's completely manageable. Starting with the 7th Yakuza games is nothing like starting with the 7th trails game; you'll be fine starting with Like a Dragon. One thing I would add though: the mini-games in Like a Dragon are, in my opinion, not that good. Feel free to skip them; they're fairly simple, but they're grindy as all hell and they always manage to overstay their welcome because you have to keep playing them to the point of it being painful before you get a good prize.

I CANNOT recommend the Yakuza series enough. You can easily start with 7 since it's a whole new cast. If you do want to do the Kiryu storyline then start with 0 it does a fantastic job of leading you into the first game and it's also arguably one of the best in the series period. Also don't worry about side content they are all goofy and just a bit of fun. The main story you'll finish in around 14 hours or so and it's epic from start to finish so many twists and turns.
