Detailed and concise breakdown of all the version differences, as well as what makes each one special in its own unique way!
Also thanks for the shout out in the party member AI/combat section :,)
    "Oh hey Rio!" hahaha
I think you especially handled the presentation/aesthetic section nicely. Yes the brightness didn't quite capture the same mood as FES; yes the cutscenes feel/convey significantly different things (well some more than others).
Still, each version has it's own draws, and you handled that well in the final recommendations section. And I love the ultimate conclusion/point of the video: that no matter which version(s) you pick up, Persona 3 is worth experiencing!
Great job on this video! I think it turned out great :)

So I never played a persona game. I'm aware I should play three, four, five but is there a recommendation? Plus, it's got to compete with some other JRPGs right now that are running heavy game times such as Trails

I usually base my recommended starting point based on what I know of someone's tastes in games. Since I don't know you my usual recommendation is just play what seems the most appealing to you. I played through 5 first and that was great, they're all available in good form on modern consoles so the options are great right now for getting into the series.

Sometimes, I feel like I don't fully "get" games that I didn't play upon their original release. The late aughts were a very.....difficult time for me personally, so I didn't play games at all for a long while and I missed the original Persona 3. I played reload earlier this year and finished the game, and I liked it quite a lot, but not enough to play more of it when "episode Aigis" came out. Good game, highly recommended, but what I experienced was enough. The biggest problem is that while I get what Persona 3 was going for, a lot of the characters were just not likable. It's a tough thing to pull off as writer: making your characters have trauma and exist in a world that has mature themes and darkness, but still keeping your characters likable. I felt Persona 3 did that well with the male characters, but none of the female characters were likable and hence, the whole dating options thing didn't interest me. I strongly suspect my point of view on this would be different if I had played the original game back when it came out, as I strongly suspect this is a "Star Ocean Second Story R" scenario (a place where the remake was perfection, but where it was a remake of something very imperfect and it inherited the original's imperfection because it insisted on staying true to the source.) I strongly suspect if I had played the original, during it's original release, the RPG story mechanics of the era would have made Persona 3 seem like a huge leap forward.
This happens a lot. FF 6 is my favorite game of all time, and was a jaw-dropping story for 1994, but that same story is in a different eco-system and would be received differently in 2024. FF 6 was the first game that I ever saw that was cinematic and it was the first game that was open world (2nd half of the game). A lot of games do that now, but in 1994, it was ground-breaking. Nostalgia often brings context to an experience.

Timing is sooo important when it comes to games. Certainly there are games I've been able to go back years or even decades later and still enjoy (Chrono Trigger, Skies of Arcadia), but it's a challenge. Many games just don't work because it's not the right time, and sometimes you come back to them. I had that experience with Persona 3 myself, I actually started playing Persona 3 before I'd played any other Persona game, but it was not the right time nor experience for me to enjoy it as I do now.

@@CommRio I played Nier Automata a few months ago, and dropped playing it when Daybreak came out. Everyone loves Nier, but I didn't "get" it when I played it a few months ago. I strongly suspect this is a "timing" thing as you said, and that I'm at a point in my life where my frame of mind is not set to understand Nier. I think if I come back to it in a few years, when my mindset is different, that it will probably click for me. That's the way it goes sometimes. It's not a bad game, it's just not what I'm into right now.
The thing is though that if something is the right thing at the right time in our lives, then, even decades later, we have no problem getting right back into that mindset that made that initial experience so memorable.

I wish reload had the Femc option...
I'm tired of playing malce characters in Atlus games beacaue they always get treated like garbage. And I'm sorry, real life already does that.
I hope Persona 6 will have an option to have both Male and female protag.

I'm hopeful that Persona 6 will as well, but Atlus has not been good at giving multiple gender options for the MC.
