How Many Flares Will Get Me To Elite Smash? |A Sephiroth Story|
WARNING: COMMENT CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR LINK'S AWAKENING idk about putting too much stock into the names of places from the botw/totk Hyrule. There are a ton of places on the map that are directly named after locations from Link's Awakening, a game that took place on an island that did not exist. There's really only 3 possible explanations for why those names exist in Hyrule. Either Link, in his dream, used familiar names for all of the places on Koholint Island (but that just begs the question as to why Link never wondered why this foreign island has all the same names as places in Hyrule). The second option is that, for whatever reason, places in Hyrule needed names, Link somehow got tasked with that, and he just decided to name them all after places he went to in this weird dream he had one time. The last option is that these places are all named after various legends/stories however that wouldn't necessarily mean that all of the associated legends/stories are actually true. Of course the reality is that it's all just fan service but we're talking about lore so that's not a good enough answer. Also Zelda's time travel also creates a new sacred stone because she picks up Rauru's stone, travels back in time with it and meets Rauru, who still has his stone. And yea the second stone DOES exist in the future because it was already in the light dragon's guts but then it goes back to there being only 1 stone after Ganondorf wakes up and Zelda goes back in time. Oh great, now I'm more confused about it...
isit possible that the golden goddesses were some ancient zonai that had more power, and them "departing" was them becoming dragons and passing the cloud barrier until botw? i dont have faith in this theory myself, but itd be fun to think/talk about.

The more I think about it, the refounding idea isn't all that farfetched. It reminds me of how the Mesopotamian civilizations played out. Particularly the Sumerian empire. It went through several iterations and changes. Some of those feel like a reset button, a refounding. Or how the various Chinese dynasties came and went. Our own history is marked with civs that came and went. And thanks to recorded history only being a thing for a small chunk of the time that Homo Sapiens has existed, we are missing so much of our own history. There are many cultures and peoples who didn't leave any writing or recorded history behind. We fan only piece together so much with the relics they left us. It's too similar to our own history to be a coincidence. There's so many instances of societal collapses. All it would take for Hyrule is something like the Toba Catastrophe or something else that's just as impacful and you'd have the catalyst for societal collapse and eventual reformation. The similarities to our own history is too obvious for me to ignore.
It actually DEFCON 1 not 5, 1 is war is active and 5 is full peace.

The Pressured state is sooo important to the magic. It gives the player a constant competing choice, anchors a ton of enemy variety, and lets the devs balance foes between unflinching cinderblocks and comical punching bags. There's so much awesome design to cover here, I'm glad that someone is putting in God's work.
I always treat each game as its own story, or legend if you will. Unless stated by Nintendo that this game is a direct sequel of that game, I don't mind about the timeline at all.

10 minutes to say, "I'm right, you're wrong." The point trying to be made against a timeline is simple, if ineloquent. The non sequential games do not necessarily adhere to a strict linear story that histories the world. It's more like a, ahem, legend, that is being told all throughout history and time with many narrators having many versions. A bit like religion. Most denominations of Christianity are very similar with some putting more emphasis on the importance of certain people or events. Catholics and Mother Mary for example. Zelda games, with exception, could be interpreted similarly. The making of a time-line in and of itself was controversial and from what I remember, they refused the idea of one for a long time. Of course there are sequential events. The argument against it is that, it doesn't matter that much and the current, should be allowed to stray from whatever predicates it. Which as a lore nerd, bothers me, but it is a valid take on the whole thing. It's not that there is no time-line, it's an argument against its relevancy. As the time-line comes into question with every release and the fact that there are 3 different ones just to make it all make sense, leans heavily toward it being an unimportant afterthought by its creator. People are simply echoing this point of view.
@@animalmother9143 you don’t read my comments 😂 Lots of media illiterate individuals seething over there never being a timeline
@@wizcatcheslightning Yeah that's fair, I might be giving people too much of the benefit of the doubt here. I would like to believe that's the sentiment, but that doesn't account for the very real actual idiocy teeming in comments sections.

i was going to be SO upset about you not telling us the quote, but then the moment I heard the first words of your reply I knew exactly which quote you meant
I always found "King" Rauru's response to Zelda's claim rather unrealistic. It'd make more sense if he had said something along the lines of "What a coincidence. We have recently founded a kingdom called Hyrule."
Thing is, given how radically different the setting of Tears of the Kingdom has been from the rest of the Zelda franchise-to the point that it may as well be an entirely different world-a lot of people, including myself, have a hard time reconciling the events of the game with the timeline as it exists now. The only possibility I can think of is multiverse theory, which I really hope is *not* the case since that trope has been done to death by literally everyone.
The Legend of Zelda, the girl who fell through time and then disapeared with the prophecy of her return and abilities, and the legend of her Hero who would with the help of a magical sword defeat the evil once and for all in the kingdom of Hyrule. What parent wouldn't be like, "My child will grow up to be great and I'll name them Link to emphasize my belief and expectation." Then also the legend dictates the naming of royal daughters as Zelda. Thus both characters recieve there names but maybe only Zelda is told of the expwctation where as Link is not raised with the stories of old but the name of legend. It's a time loop and the future influenced the past and all the stories between are in part caused by the story of prophecy from Zelda's backwards time travel.
I believe Rauru's time takes place before Skyward sword not after, but I will watch this to make sure of my theory. 😊
it tickles me to my core when barrett said “shinra bootlicker” 🤣 so hilarious when one of the party members roast him around for being suspecious 😂
Void Stranger made me cry so many times.
I want to start out by saying this is a very well made video and I especially agree with its mission statement. Zelda lore meant a whole lot to me growing up and it would be nice to believe it mattered. Its just, I can't shake the feeling that any conclusion that the old story is still running is unfortunately probably wrong. There's an old wisdom which says that the simplest explanation is probably the real one, and a theory like the one in this video, while coherent, puts in a lot of legwork to get around something that the corporate-beholden folks at Nintendo are very incentivized to do; simply reboot. Long-running franchises eventually overbloat, overcrowd and convolute to the point where the creative freedom to implement any more is constricted. These franchises are owned by corporations who definitely wouldn't want to stop making money off them by leaving well enough alone, and its just much easier to write on a blank sheet than a filled page, so they wind up rebooting sooner or later. Star Wars has done this with a giant chunk of stories expanded stories now decanonized and labeled "Legends", Pokemon has done something similar but different to this downsizing effort with what we unofficially call Dexit ( though the Pokemon devs' was a gameplay matter, not timelines), Marvel and DC have all but popularized alternate universes as a fact of life on their own (if they didn't, you'd have to navigate like eighty years of serialized writing), and if you open a copy of Zelda: Creating the Champion, you'll find not an updated copy of the og timeline, but a history section with no game titles named. Instead there're categories like "over 10,000 years ago" containing summary descriptions of events that approximate some things you might remember in more specific details from older games. Trying to find a throughline that makes the og timeline still work is really nice, but it might be turning a blind eye to the the issue that there's just no reason for the writers to have started obscuring things like this, other than that they want to be relieved of the timeline baggage. I still like this video's layout of things and identify with its passions. Its just that I would need to hear some further indicator from the devs that its gone this way in order to be convinced, rather than what we can more easily assume they wanted with their recent creative choices. I feel bad writing stuff like this; doing anything that might injure someone's hope is not something I would agree with as any social project. If someone else can still cling to the notion of Zelda being written with love, I hope they never lose it, but its only pragmatic to point out that the forces funding Zelda are driven by money. A fact is, the producers at Nintendo have said on multiple occasions that they're here to sell video games and not art. If for all I've said you don't think BOTW/TOTK is where they drew the line with the established story, then it remains likely that a reboot is still *going* to happen in the future, because that's a practically necessary step to streamline their development process. For me, I'll be doing my best to make my peace with it.
@@TheKnightguard1 well said and greatly appreciated, Occam’s Razor and all
@@wizcatcheslightning no problem and Holy heck I didn't even know that was a named theory. Thank you!!

I feel like this exaggerates the "difference" between the terms used for gods and goddesses. Japanese also uses slightly different terms to describe refer to the same individuals. And "the god tribe" is just another way of saying "Gods". The japanese language has a thing where singular and plural aren't always clear. So the use of that term translates to what we call "gods" in the west. It's being pretty overthought, if that makes sense.

I think we failed to consider that the other "hyrules" were located in different parts of the world, as hyrule is but a small country. there fore it could be that rauru founded this "new" hyrule
I don;t think this was a big revelation... your assertion that people assume that Rauru was talking about finding hyrule after skyward sword is kind of a stupid assumption. I am going to give fans a bit more credit considering skyward sword tells us that Zelda and Link found Hyrule. So no I think you're wrong that most people didn't think he was talking post skyward sword. I think most fans thought either, that this is a soft reboot... or like me that this kingdom of hyrule is just foudned after the fall of the previous one. You don't need a 23 minute video to point out the evidence for this. The game is canon in the timeline according to Nintendo but it doesn't match canon so that means it has to be a new kingdom of Hyrule, and we know from BOTW that the old games are set so far in the past that they are considered myth. So the conclusion is simple, this new hyrule was founded maybe a million years in the future after the last game There saved you all 23 minutes

@@net-banshee balatro is just sitting in my library. Haven’t started it yet. I’m quite sure I’ll get hooked
Great analysis video, very enlightening. It is funny that, if the last two games, BOTW and TOTK don't follow anything like how the original timeline went, and if those two games are a soft reboot from scratch for a whole different Legend of Zelda location and universe, it's really telling that the next game due September of 2024 chucks out everything Botw and Totk did and added, finally these massive open world Zelda games with NOTHING in them with pitiful excuses for dungeons can die out a9even if a couple bosses do stand out and a few characters were good). That's the issue, Botw and Totk, didn't feel like Zelda games, they seemed to lack things that good Zelda games, like Oot, SS, MM and TP had. I know this will sound like blatant hate for the two last games (until the new one), and defending others may be favoritism, feel free to contradict this comment.
perhaps, zelda had already traveled to the past several times, that’s why ganondorf recognized her and link. but this may be the first time she turned into a dragon. it would explain why there were no tears in botw
