That makes sense. If Hylia was tasked by the other gods to safeguard the Triforce, she would have had to have her servants safeguard it in her stead. The Sheikah would have been "low" enough on the "divinity scale" as it were to be able to do that after the Triforce passed into mortal hands, no matter how many pieces it was in.
@@elfilin-to6dh I think my reasoning was that the kingdom had the courage to continue on in the face of adversity where the god tribe had the wisdom to retreat and monitor, if that’s what’s happening
This is better than the most popular Zelda theory channels. Your literary analysis is very good and emphasizes the Japanese text. That’s really important because Nintendo of America’s localization cannot be trusted.
I love languages and getting to the root of things, and understanding the Japanese context of any game was an important lesson I learned while obsessing over Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice 😂
After the whole secret stones translation, (like really you couldn't have made it sacred stones?) And killing ganondorfs motivations in totk I can't blame you
@@TROBassGuitar The idea that Ganon's motivation was removed is a huge factoid. A myth. They didn't look at the English version carefully enough, apparently.
Not only was this an incredibly edited video, but you absolutely blew my mind. I never noticed the mysterious figure's third eye. You can even see a bump there! I'll definitely be looking out for the things you mentioned while playing the game. Nicely done!
I just noticed the bump while watching this, I originally thought it was jewelry! Now I fully expect that thing to eventually pop open and something ethereal to happen immediately afterwards
The argument of Zonais not building statues of themselves were they not dragons doesn't hold up that well if you consider how human build statues of humans.
That’s true. What convinced me, which I should have mentioned in the video but audience retention is so hit or miss is that Basket looks much different from the average Hylian. Blue Green eyes. Tan complexion (implying being closer to the sun). Tribal tattoos that mimic Zonai architecture. And longer ears. The closest Hylians that I can observe would be the Lurelians. As they share the same olive complexion and are close to the Zonai ruins. I also think the longer ears are a Zonai trait that emulate the longer ears of Dragon Man. Those are my off the cuff thoughts. I appreciate your feedback!
@@wizcatcheslightningi think that Basket is a hylian, just an ancient one. if the totk time travel theory is correct, she can't be the figure in the tapestry 10,000 years ago because zelda gets sent back to before calamity ganon even existed, to when ganondorf was sealed. Basket must another incarnation of Zelda from 20,000 years ago at the very Least, but probably much more ancient. i think that she might have had a close relationship with the Zonai, perhaps even living with them so that would explain the way she dresses & the tattoos. but we will see!! 18 days away :) she might just be a Zonai after all!
🔔 🔔!! I’ll tell you this much: there is a strong parallel to rays of sunlight in the picture with the figure who has 7 tears above them and the sun goddess Amaterasu from Japanese folklore. It’s ideas like this that keep me up at night 😂
@@wizcatcheslightning yk at the end of the first mural trailer it shows a sun above the two figures linking (no pun intended) hands, and what are the two main elements of the sun in terms of human perception? The ability to perceive time with it, and the shining light it emits. Zelda has been associated with time a lot and link is known as the "light that must shine upon hyrule once again" as well as that people think zelda has time travelled with her recall tear, and hylia has also been associated with light which would allow it to make sense that this dragon man is some kind of light elemental dragon and that this connection of light and time is what links (no pun intended, again) the two.
@@godly_potatoe69xd19 Y E S!!! I desperately wanted to make a video about this concept as well as what I believe Dragon Guy means for Link. I may just make something rushed, which I hate doing, just to get it out there. This next video I’m working on is a doozy :p
What about the fourth dragon we see in some of these tears of the Kingdom trailers? The dragon person add the fourth dragon look really similar and they’re both knew. Not the three headed one, the one that circles, the sky islands and is a new different colour.
The three dragons in Skyward Sword have a counterpart: Levias. All three hold part of the Song of The Hero and Levias holds the fourth. So the new, fourth dragon may be the latest incarnation of Levias. This would be especially fitting given the sky island theme of TotK, as Levias was appointed to be the guardian of the skies by Hylia. Perhaps he wasn't in BotW because the sky barrier remained intact, but the Upheaval reintroduces the sky islands to Hyrule and Levias with them.
I just came to a crazy realization. "They say we Hylians have big ears in order to hear the voices of the gods…but I’ve never heard them!" What if Hylians have pointed ears to resemble the ears of the gods? That can explain the similarities between Zelda and the god figure. Because Hylia was a dragon.
Great video, I don't think there are that many people that refer to japanese mythology when talking about Zelda theories, so it's nice to see a new, and strongly supported, take.
Thank you! I don’t know if you’ve heard of him, but QuestWithAaron is one of the best Zeldatubers I’ve seen break down the Japanese lore in Zelda games. Definitely check that channel out 😎
Very nice video! I want to offer some additional food for thought as well. *POSSIBLE SPOILERS* In the leaked images from the art book this character is depicted with that third eye actually open. In particular there is a pose of him in an action pose (as if he's casting a spell or something) with it open. That, along with the teardrop shape on his nose, makes for some interesting similarities between that and the Sheikah symbology. I'll also add that this character's name has been identified from the same leaks (but I won't be spoiling that here) and that adds to some interesting theories as well. I'll also say that i think this character mostly resembles a rabbit (you can see profile shots in the art book) as opposed to a dragon. Lastly, I sort of feel like this character plays a similar role to Link and I almost want to say that if Zelda is a reincarnation of Hylia, perhaps Link could be a reincarnation of this guy. Just a thought.
I think Demise, even though called Demon King, wasn't actually a Demon. Rather, I think he's actually a God. It's stated in Skyward Sword, that Demise was sealed away BEFORE Hylia herself then tried to use the Triforce to destroy him. Which is when she found out that Gods couldn't use the Triforce themselves, and so chose to reincarnate into a Mortal. So Demise wasn't around to learn that bit of information. And Hylia, an outright Goddess, couldn't destroy him. I think his "Curse" was 2 things. First, being HIS version of Hylia's reincarnation. Which is why he's reborn as....a Mortal. Secondly, I think it's showing WHICH God he was. Din was the Goddess of Power. Nayru, of Wisdom. Farore, of Courage. Hylia, of Time. And Demise, of Destiny/Fate. He's the only being to do something that outright CHANGES people's long-term Fates. (Outside of the Golden Goddess's on one occasion.)
@@wizcatcheslightning Thank you! It may be a day or two before I do. It's actually something I just thought of this last weekend. And need to do a draft, and then clean up the finer points. Lol
Full Theory Despite being called the Demon King, I believe Demise isn't actually a Demon. I believe he's actually a God. In Skyward Sword, it's established that he went to war against Hylia, the Goddess of Time, and lost. Yet.....she couldn't destroy him. Or even KILL Demise. She could only trap him. Which tells us that, while he lost the war, Demise is at least of EQUAL power to Hylia. Which......canonically doesn't make sense. ALL Demons are SHOWN to be repelled, and defeated by any artifacts related to the Goddesses. Yet, one can't even kill the "Demon" King? Another thing to question is Demise's "Curse." While it seems, at surface level, just that. It speaks something more, 2 things in fact. 1) A reflection of Hylia's reincarnation. And 2) A telling of what Demise REALLY is: The God of Destiny. While it seems far-fetched, it actually would seem to fit into the Lore of LoZ. The 3 Golden Goddesses: Power, Wisdom, and Courage, are the ones that made the World. But they left it into the hands of "Others." Hylia is the only other God mentioned. But if you look at both, Time and Destiny, it actually matches up with 2 of the 3 GG's. Hylia, being Time, would represent Nayru, the Goddess of Wisdom. As with Time COMES Wisdom. Looking at it that way, Destiny would represent Power, or the Power to change one's OWN Destiny. Which, admittedly I don't have an answer for, leaves a blank space for Courage. However, going back to Skyward Sword's lore: Demise was imprisoned BEFORE Hylia tried to use the Triforce to destroy him. And therefore: He wouldn't have learned that the Triforce's power doesn't work for Gods. So Demise, being the God of Destiny, would KNOW that his fate was to be forgotten in obscurity by the Hylians. And, being a God, couldn't accept it. Which is what lead him to taking over all Demons and becoming their King: So that's by force, he could take over the land that would praise another God, while forgetting him. He would become obsessed with changing HIS own fate. And, becoming consumed by the resentment of being forgotten, would learn to harness that Power as Malice. Beginning when Demise was defeated by the First Link, as he would then manage to do something that NO ONE, outside of the Golden Goddesses on ONE occasion, had ever done before or since: Change the Destiny of others. Demise's Curse when looked at, at whole, screams reincarnation (obviously) but he didn't come back until Ages passed.....much like Hylia's reincarnation is described. And as such, he comes back as.......a Mortal. Like Hylia. Idk, as I also feel like there's still more to this. And also some to debunk it. But it seems to line up to me. Just a bit too well. Let me know what y'all think. I haven't been able to organize it much in the past few days like I wanted to. But would also love some input either way on it.
If this ends up being true it will be utterly amazing, and help to uncover so much about the setting that we can then go back and reinterpret. Good Job, and let's hope we can go forwards with this idea.
@@fabriciodelesderrier2646 also a good point! Meant to comment this earlier but I was half awake and got caught up in a flurry of trying to respond to everyone. Thanks for understanding!
@@fabriciodelesderrier2646 The information presumably came from the ancient Sheikah of 10,000 years ago. Kass' teacher was a Sheikah so probably heard the stories passed down much like the prophecy that Impa recounts.
Not quite correct but you were close. It's worth noting that the term God is interchangeable with Spirit when the Han 神 (Kami) is used as it was for the Tower of Spirits in Spirit Tracks. Various other languages also used the translation of "Tower of the Gods". You've also noted that the term gods and goddesses are used interchangeably when referring to Din, Nayru and Farore as well as the term god, spirit and deity are all the same in the original Chinese. Even demon in the original language just means evil spirit or evil deity so Demise is no different to Hylia. Demise says he hates the Gods' clan. Not the God's clan. Meaning it is a clan belonging to multiple gods or spirits. That could mean either the group of Kami who serve the Golden Goddesses or everyone who lives under the protection and leadership of the immortals like Hylia and her emissaries. Since a clan or tribe doesn't need to be of all the same race, then the Gorons, Hylians, Zora and others could easily be called the Gods' Clan or Gods' Tribe. As can the assortment of dragons, fairies and guardian spirits be called the Goddesses' Clan if that is who Demise was actually referring to.

This theory didn’t age well, but still a very entertaining listen! I like listening to Zelda theories or true crime to go to sleep most night. I found myself unable to fall asleep to this one because it was super interesting and I couldn’t force myself to zone out despite having played the game. Well done
I came here to say this tbh :P I think it's very reasonable to think the zonai would use themselves to represent what seems to be the most important aspect of the Triforce in their culture
@@Shinntoku alright but consider what this implies. “Hey, we think we’re pretty cool, let’s build a bunch of monuments devoted to us!” I do see what you mean though. Great empires have done this before. If I’m being fully transparent, I think that Basket having longer ears is the distinction that really sells my idea. If you accept my premise, that the figure discussed is a dragon and is considered a god. That figure has long ears. Ears that match depictions of the Divine Insect. The individuals with ears that are longer than the average Hylian (like Basket) could also be considered to be “closer to the gods” in that aspect.
It's really interesting how close you got on the nitty gritty details but how the great theory was wrong. Really, if instead of starting with "this isn't a Zonia" it said, "This is not just a Zonia" it is uncanny how close it is. Great Video, quality investigating on the details. Though it is a Zonia, I would still count most of the video's points as a win.
Thank you for being able to remain level headed about that (instead of writing the entire video off) because people certainly aren’t perfect and are capable of making educated guesses 😅
Great analysis!! Now imagine that 3rd eye open: The 3 triangle shaped "eye lashes" on top, and the tear shaped design underneath. It´s a perfect Sheika symbol!
Why make it more complicated…It could also just be a Zonai, but what we didn’t know is that they are related to dragons, like half-dragon or something like that. Still interesting but I don’t think they are introducing a new “race” for it to be something else than the Zonais, doesn’t make sense.
Not sure what you’re saying exactly, but I’m saying that the god tribe has an established history: they’re a familiar people that we were unfamiliar with, and there’s a history of them in a lot of Zelda games. Do I think they’re connected to the Zonai? Absolutely. But they’re not the Zonai
Excellent video as always. I've always been a fan of Zelda series but I just recently got into the lore and I love how complicated and overwhelming it is. So do you think we'll have time travel mechanics in totk to meet the person on the mural?
@@howlbastion I believe we’ve spoken before because your name looks familiar and I just wanna say again that Howl Bastion was a great level in KH and I love Howl’s Moving Castle
Love this, did also think the Zonai we see was a Dragon. But unfortunately, having played a bit, I have to agree with everyone who says he is a goat. Too many goat markers and is also a GOAT.
"The main colors of a dragon are blue and green"? That's not necessarily true. Growing up, I was taught the history of Japan and saw many paintings of dragons that came in a slew of different colors. The one really famous painting by Hokusai (the same artist who drew the painting of a tidal wave that everyone has seen before) depicts a dragon in black and orange. You might got that impression because there are two types of dragons in Japanese myth: the water/elemental dragons and the sky dragons. You're probably thinking of sky dragons because way back in the day, the Japanese people thought of "blue" and "green" as the same thing. They just called it "Ao". Some artists painted dragons in "Ao" (blue/green) as a way to suggest/communicate to the audience that they have the ability to fly, since the sky is also in the "Ao" color. It's like hinting something or telling a story through association. Much like how Fujin was often depicted in Ao to show that he has the power to control the wind in the sky.
Humans have actually almost lost the ability to keep an oral tradition with the rise of literacy. If you played a game of telephone with a less literate group of people with a strong oral history, they’d probably only get one word wrong.
I think you could add the Fierce Deity Mask too at 3:00 and it wouldn't stand out too much... Makes me think that just as the Mastersword kinda contains the spirit of the Dragon deity Hylia, the mask could contain that of Farore.
If you're right then nintendo took more inspiration from princess mononoke than I thought. In princess mononoke there is the great forest spirit which is the most powerful god, a clan of wolves with a wolf god as its head that serves the great forest spirit, and a girl named san which is the wolves god daughter, furthermore if you cut off the head of the great forest spirit it will supposedly grant any wish.
going to be honest its funny that no one pegged the mural of the "Dragon figure" and the "Zelda Figure" being a depiction of a Marriage Union between 2 important figures of the ancient past with the magatama being not dissimilar to wedding rings for them
@@wizcatcheslightning No no I am talking about everybody I remember what was it I think Zeltik or Bandit had a video where I think they theorized it was that the um "Dragon Figure" was Hylia and the Zelda figure was Zelda having to surrender her human self to become the goddess to like stop mummydorf but that was when the first trailer came out so you know a few years ago but still a lot of people didn't even think about that thing being a reference to a couple is really funny I mean fandom some crazy theories gets really close even like years and games before it might come true and a thing that is just if you think about it from the way they are positioned no one cued the idea oh maybe those two are a couple or getting married or something like that we have to go grand and really speculative with the theories
"Telephone" is a game and it's by it's very nature to screw up the passed message. Verbal history can be accurate, there are many cultures to this day that still practice a verbal history telling.
I was providing context with a simple application of the same idea. People can have good intentions when utilizing oral tradition. The road to Hell is paved with good intentions. I don’t think people intends to dilute a legend. Hence the Fi quote 😉
@@wizcatcheslightning Bruh. You know well I'm not gonna spoil anything here. Especially about the first two hours of the game. Also, better to keep away from YT, there's already several gameplays and I do not know if that is legal.
In the TotK trailers and gameplay we've seen several Dragons, ones I don't think we met in BotW. This leads me to believe that the Zonai are the Dragons and the dungeons in TotK will lead us to the Dragons. The Dragons/Zonai may even serve the same role as the Sages, handing out the Tears which match up with the Sage Medallions from OoT. They also match up with Skyward Sword, as the Dragons were servants of Hylia and supposedly the Zonai will be too.
THANK YOU!! This brings so much more to the table then "Its the Zonai!! :0". This makes me believe that the Zonai are possibly similar to the Sheika as a tribe dedicated to serving a purpose the Gods have given them
thank you for being like the only person to say dragon, he's CLEARLY got dragon like features not dog or goat features, drives me nuts However we do already know who that dragon guy is and unfortunately all it does is raise more questions than answers lol
Just throwing this out there, but the actual first appearance of "goddess" in Zelda history is in Zelda II: The Adventure of Link--what the NA (NES) version called the "Trophy" was actually called a goddess statue, a "Megami-zou 女神像" in the JP (FDS) version. It even looks like the goddess statues from later on in the series as well.
Not to shoot your comment down, and my next video will clarify this better, but “Megami-Zou” (goddess statue) is much different from “Megami-Sama” (The Goddess, a title of reverence). Your point is still interesting! And I think that it perfectly explains how we get form The Adventure of Link to A Link To The Past with the creation myth first being introduced mentioning the goddesses
Very nice job in the connections with the dragons and the gods/goddess and the theory in general. I read through the website but I hadn't even noticed the 3 fingers and the three dragon claws.

i was wondering if the song references in the latest tears of the kingdom trailer deliver significant meanings like for example, the age of calamity theme playing with zeldas cutscene. with age of calamity having time travel within it could this hint at zelda time traveling in tears of the kingdom? then it has me thinking about other hidden references like midnas lament reference playing directly before the shot of the arbiters grounds with quicksand everywhere like it could possibly be returning as a playable dungeon.
I’m so glad you said this. I’ve heard about both of these references! I was thinking about exploring them further. Just need some more ideas to make it into something.
I feel like this exaggerates the "difference" between the terms used for gods and goddesses. Japanese also uses slightly different terms to describe refer to the same individuals. And "the god tribe" is just another way of saying "Gods". The japanese language has a thing where singular and plural aren't always clear. So the use of that term translates to what we call "gods" in the west. It's being pretty overthought, if that makes sense.
@@Token-j1n yeah the Kami, which would be Shinto deities associated with nature, but there’s a bunch of them throughout the series. I’m picking up what you’re putting down
Something worth noting: as far as I can tell, Megami ("Goddess") derives either from Himegami ("a female kami"). The kanji for the word "kami" and the suffix "gami" are exactly the same (hime = female, gami = kami). So the Megami/goddesses are likely not a different species from the spirits we encounter throughout Zelda, but they do seem higher up in the hierarchy.
Love the language insight here, thank you! I was able to hypothesize a hierarchy of gods by looking at the context of each time the words “god” and “gods” were used in each game. It was a neat breakthrough for me 🥲
@@wizcatcheslightning Yeah I thought that was a particularly strong point in the video! And it lines up well with a Shinto inspiration; the gods that created Japan, the sun goddess Amaterasu, the spirits of major landmarks like Mt Fuji, and the spirits of a person's deceased ancestors are all referred to as Kami, even though there is an obvious implied difference in importance and power.
Yeah ive noticed that in Tears of the kingdom the frostbite, Charged, and ember armor sets are all refrences to the dragons and they say they were made for rituals. We also learn that swallowing a secret stone turns a person into a dragon. now notice how all of the normal dragons have large ears like Rauru. Also notice how the light dragon has no ears. See where im going with this? I think three ancient Zonai gods ate secret stones to turn themselves into great dragons so they could watch over the land.
I think you’re completely right. And the Zonai saw this ritual and what it did and then labeled it as forbidden. Meanwhile we have a Hylian myth of the goddesses ascending but we didn’t know any better because we were dealing with the limited knowledge of the Hylians with their oral tradition.
I'm getting some serious Link To The Past vibes with the commercial content for this game. One thing that I had mentioned before was the light and dark world, a concept that has been overlooked in Zelda games since then. One of the main goals that the team for BotW originally had was to bring the open world concepts of the first Zelda game to life in a modern style 3D Zelda game. One of the funny parallels that keeps crossing my mind is the concept of the Dark World. In the trailer for ToTK, Ganondorf is seen shooting up a burst of dark energy into the sky, which might happen partway through the game. This may be this game's version of creating the Dark World. The Dark World changes the forms of the beings in Hyrule to match their true nature, in A Link To The Past, Link was transformed into a bunny before obtaining the mirror to allow him to be in his normal form in the Dark World. Maybe Link changes form into this Dragon Being in ToTK when Ganondorf opens the Dark Realm, which would explain a lot when it comes to scenes in the trailer. He has the same hand as that Dragon Being, Zelda is in her normal state as she meets him at the gates of time and doesn't recognize him until he places his hand on her shoulder, and she may go with him to the future to become that Zonai Zelda we see in the trailer.
@@bagofsteel9152 of course! Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. Speaking of the game telephone… I have played it online via text messages with people where you can LITERALLY COPY AND PASTE and/or follow a paper trail to the original message and the original message is still lost. Anyway, there are also various scientific experiments where games of telephone happen for people writing books for casual readers not in the scientific community. E.g. an experiment is done with a sample size if 300 people. A book mentions the results of said experiment and then they site their source for said experiment. Then another book mentions the results of said experiment and the source it cites is the book that mentioned the experiment. Etc etc etc. but they don’t ever explain how the experiment worked exactly… just that X.xx% of X had X results. Never the process to get said results. Meanwhile, the initial experiment was only with a sample size of 300, which is kinda small when the population is 8,000,000,000+ and people in the scientific community have run the same experiment with larger sample sizes and with various other conditions (while maintaining the control) and found that a sample size of 300 has anomalies… so… while they get more complete information the books are still citing a century old experiments results as if they are absolute. So a misconception persists. But honestly I think the legend of Zelda games are not what actually happens. They are similar, but are actually just legends being told. And the part where maybe I get off the great plateau earlier or later than you actually conanically makes sense with the games this way. Everyone’s playthrough is essentially how the story is told by someone else.
I have a dumb theory about links arm, it's cursed with a plague given to him by Gannon at the beginning of tears of the kingdom. It's specifically looks identical to the rotting of arms of those infected by the bubonic plague, the reason we know this is because there is a specific type of Tibetan otter that people eat the liver of, that still contains the bubonic plague. For hundreds of years before the bubonic plague people ate raw Tibetan otter for health benefits as ancient holistic medicine, and some people still indulge in that forbidden delicacy like dumbasses and then die horrible deaths due to plague. And also, the local cities and towns nearby have to immediately on an even more severe lockdown than covid lockdowns if this ever happens. Now all that information being said, I think we will see our link that we play as die at the end of this game.
Thanks for the historical reference! A lot of people noticed that this game takes a lot of inspiration from Hayao Miyazaki (Studio Ghibli) films. The way Link’s arm becomes tainted is very similar to Ashitaka’s arm from Princess Mononoke. This cursed arm is a ticking time bomb that is set to consume/kill Ashitaka. Highly recommend you give that film a watch. There’s also influence from Castle in the Sky, Nausicaä and the Valley of the Wind, and even Spirited Away. I highly recommend you give those films a gander!
You, i love your videos. I dont see many theory channels look in Japanese text, even though people really need too. The creators are japanese, so the Japanese text is what is actually being said and thats crazy important.
Thank you for the recognition! Happy to provide my insight on all of this. I completely agree with you, and I was extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to delve through and try to make sense of that Japanese lore for all of us who speak English 🤗
Ok, quick thought on this one and it relates; there’s a small discrepancy in the official lore on the Master Sword’s creation. On one hand we, as link, canonically turn the Godess sword into the Master Sword, and on the other we have Zelda in Twilight Princess say that the Master Sword was created by the “wisdom of the ancient sages” but what if there is no discrepancy? The Zonai set up shop in the Faron region and were said to worship a water dragon, which is assumed to be Farosh because it exists in the same time as we’re hearing about them and it spawns in the waters of the area (even though its element is lightning), but with as much time that’s presumably passed since the Zonai’s disappearance it’s equally as likely, if not more so, that the water dragon they worshiped is Faron Who is in fact a “water dragon” who sat inside the spring where the largest dragon statue sits in the middle of their province. Now if the Master Sword was forged by link with the help of the three dragons of the time, and the sages are confirmed to have existed before the time of skyward sword by their symbols being present in The Temple of Hylia, and adding your Dragon/God’s clan, then wouldn’t both versions of the Master Sword’s creation be true? The dragons from skyward sword could’ve been a part of this clan and been the ancient sages, possibly the original sages. Idk if it made sense in writing as much as it did in my head, but there’s a little theory I’ve had in my head that isn’t hurt at all by your dragon clan theory. Also, completely unrelated, but in the new Japanese (I think?) commercial for ToTK, we see link diving over Lake Hylia and seeing the malice holes and whirlpools, I’m 100% convinced the whirlpool will be the entrance to the water temple that’s in Lake Hylia via OoT and TP.
I’m loving the stream of consciousness here! You make sound points. That’s what making these videos is all about. How can we expand upon the idea presented in the video even further? Thank you for taking the time to share a comment and thanks for watching the video!
I absolutely love video game lore: Zelda, Dark Souls, Darksiders, Dishonored; games with deep stories with open holes meant for speculation. And I’d say the biggest thing to expand this theory is something you already have in this video. We’ve seen full dragons, anthropomorphic dragons, and a new anthropomorphic Zonai dragon in ToTK. What if we’ve already met another anthropomorphic dragon in the only (released) game that has them; Skyward Sword? what if it’s Demise? 1- He has scales on his body resembling the scales of dragons (that’s an easy one) 2- he has a scar on his forehead where a horn could have been removed because, like you said, the prologue of skyward sword shows a horn when talking about Demise. 3- (this is the big one I noticed from this video which I would’ve never thought of without the direct translation) So right now I have the video paused at 6:47 where you put the direct translation of Demise saying “my eternal resentment towards the Gods’ clan.” Your point focused on the phrase “Gods’ clan,” but I want to point you towards the word resentment in the translation vs hatred in the English localization. Resentment is a very specific kind of hate, one resulting from being treated unfairly by those you’re close to. you don’t resent your enemies. Demise resents the Gods’ clan, HIS clan.
@@VitaminSwann0 I completely think you’re on the right direction because he’s got the scales and really everything you said lines up and even adds more to thoughts I had after making this video! My only point of contention is that Demise is the Demon King and the source of all Demons. He’s the yang to the gods’ yin. I’m blanking on the Japanese lore figure but he reflects both the Death Star/deity who reflects the moon in folklore but I can also see Susanoo (Amaterasu’s brother) paralleling in him.
@@wizcatcheslightning maybe he’s the Demon King solely based on the fact that he created them and not because he himself is a demon. I’m gonna use your logic against you; Demise said “this bag of flesh pales in comparison to the magnificence of her previous form.” When referring to Zelda, meaning that Hylia created lesser beings that weren’t in her image/ the same “race.” Demise could’ve done the same but they’re demons instead of hylians. I was in the process of making a joke about “Hylia:Hylian” “Demise:Demisian”… but now that I’m writing it down, “Demise:Demon” actually kind of makes sense 😂
Wait until the end before we jump to any conclusions 😎 If I were in the military I would be classified as a soldier. However, that doesn’t designate whether I’m a Marine, Air Force, Army, or Navy. Know what I mean? Also, thank you 😊
It isn't quite so that myths are diluted over time, more that the history has to be understood by people generations, centuries, or even millennia after events.
That third eye part blew my fuckin mind lol wow, how did you fuckin notice that?? When you pause it it's DEFINITELY a third eye. I'm kinda sad because when that third eye opens up in the game I'm gonna wish I didn't see it coming lol
I’ve been obsessed with this series since 1998 is how 😂 Sorry to spoil something for you! I have to get these thoughts out as I count the days for the Tears of the Kingdom.
You make a big distinction between "gods" and "goddesses" but both of these terms are used to refer to Din/Nayru/Farore. The two most common terms for them in the Japanese games are the 黄金の三大神 (Three Golden Gods) and the 三人の女神 (Three Goddesses).
To be clear, the japanese mmakes the distinction, not the secondary english localization. The english localization often royally mistranslates. Like saying TP Zelda was Tutored by the sages, instead of the npc tutoring Zelda about the sages. You should look more in to zelda mistranslations. Like how Zant's character is stripped of cultural context as a priest.
The only thing that i see as an inconsistence is the fact that demise said in skyward sword that the form of hylia before she became zelda it was a divine form without flesh
Fun theory that popped in my head during the video. Since the 3 dragons each represent a piece of the triforce, what if they were able to combine and make like a super dragon that embodies the whole triforce
Did you play the original hyrule Warriors? Not sure how Canon it is, but there we actually get to promised golden land that ocarina of time speaks of. Dont know the name of the stage, but its music is called "Silent Guardians" (sick track btw). No Dragon people to meet there, though.
I’ve heard that Hyrule Warriors isn’t canon but something that’s interesting that I recently saw was that there is specific music playing from Age of Calamity in the latest Tears of the Kingdom trailer!
Working backwards through your content. In general, I think you are on the right track. I think it's interesting that while the Zonai were called gods, it seems like they don't consider themselves to be gods. I also think the similarity between them and the Minish are striking.
@@wizcatcheslightning ive watched the rest you did hit some nails on the head but the dragon guy is definitely called a zonai and theres something special about dragons that you mentioned at the start the does play a role in the story but I'm not gonna spoil it (to be fair I'm very early into tears of the kingdom)
how would Zelda from the past be a Zonai if it is explicitly said that she must have the blood of the royal family, i.e., Hylian? this is the part that doesn't add up to me...
Remember in Skyward Sword how there’s an established history well before its events? This is how. Or really just any Zelda game. There’s always just enough room to retroactively continue Zelda lore in some fashion. The Zonai have longer ears than the average Hylian. One could muse that the Zonai appear “closer to the gods” than the Hylians. An ancient people could exist before the Hylians. After all (this is just an example), who made the dungeons of Skyward Sword with all of the blatant dragon imagery?
pretty damn close, not gonna spoil anything but parts of this are definitely correct while others are definitely wrong (although i think there was more that was correct)
Well there is a chance that the person in the mural would be a demon, the tribe ascosiated with red and ganondorf/demise. The reason i say that is because the mural gives off demonic vibes with majora esc face, the levitating girl commonly associated with demons/possesions, and the creepy music. It also gives us with the race farthest from the gods, and a tribe to asosiate with the boar the zonai made statues off. The owls belong to the shiekha who make alot of blue stuff and are by far the WISEST of the tribes of hyrule due to their long life spans. Zonai who persumably made the green hhand in TOTK and the green goop it leaves behind when using its ultrahand ability and were COURAGEOUS warriors as stated in the barbarian set in BOTW. And the demons who are suposedly red/black due to the malice of the demon king demise and his incarnarion of ganondorf
The Japanese version using Kami instead of Megami does not prove that the Gods were not Goddesses. Kami is genderneutral and can be used for male and female deities or spirits; Megami is specifically female and only used for Goddesses. There is no distinctly male form for God or Gods in Japanese. I have always taken Hylians to be a different race to Hyruleans. Zelda, Link and some other non-Sheikah individuals in OoT have pointy ears while other individuals (most of the people in Kakariko and the Postman) have round ears. I don't however believe that Ookah are decendants of the Gods Tribe. Hylians (Skyloftians) are more likely to be those descendants. Agahnim's "Demon Eye" may well be an early itteration of what later became the Sheikah Eye. It was the very first apearance of an Eye symbol in the games when there was still no clear and definite direction the Zelda franchise was going to take. Back then, the concept of Sheikah was not yet conceived of by Nintendo. By the power of retrospective revisionism, it is quite possible that Agahnim was an early Yiga, wearing a corrupted form of the Sheikah Eye. By the power of retrospective revisionism, it is not unplausible to give his tabart the regular (evenif inverted) Sheikah Eye in remakes and modern fanart of LttP.
Next video out should address most of your points. The script is written. I’m not trying to dodge your points. I really like what you’ve said here. If you have any social media, please reach out so we can chat more. I like where your head is at
Especially Hylians vs Hyruleans. I’ve only ever known them to be interchangeable terms describing the same people. And the round ears vs pointy ears might be a way to explain that, but we know that Ganondorf from WW was searching for girls with pointy ears only (an indication descendants of Hyrule) when he takes Link’s sister
Something that’s also interesting that I didn’t put in there was the dragon was adopted from China to Japan. Didn’t know how to fit that into the video. But the Chinese dragon is typically depicted with 5 digits while the Japanese dragon only has 3-4 digits.
When i first saw that antropomorphic guy,my first thought was "why would zelda have a goatman, thats not very zelda-like" then, the second thought i had was "wait a second, thats not a goat!Thats a weird ass dragon!Just like Skyward sword!'.
@@wizcatcheslightning Yeah,i would...my switch has a problem where the controler disconnect at random time.I brought like 2 more set of controler but it seem to be a console issue...Its sadly probably not going to be as fun of a play as it should for me and it wont even be because of the game. I'd love to watch this theory reworked now that we've had 2-3 months of TotK out and about, especially because so much would still make sense, but id like to hear your opinion on Sonia and the God Clan actually being the Zonai, or at least apparently?
Part of the Sheikah stayed loyal to the royal family, one part stayed loyal to Ganondorf, one stayed loyal to the dragon tribe...
I like it!
Courage = Royal Family
Wisdom = God Tribe
Power = Ganondorf
@@sashacliche8424 considering how Zelda is part of the royal family, i think courage and wisdom should be switched there
@@elfilin-to6dh I think my reasoning was that the kingdom had the courage to continue on in the face of adversity where the god tribe had the wisdom to retreat and monitor, if that’s what’s happening

Fact is that Zonai DID build staties on themselves...

Honestly I never thought the character of the mural was a zonai, I´ve always thought is gonna be a deity of sorts. Maybe Hylia herself?
@@godly_potatoe69xd19 But yeah the Tears of Light and Time. They’re always connected. The Temple of Time is the entryway to the Temple of Light.
@@wizcatcheslightning those are NOT the tears...and Zonai are NOT gods... Sorry.
What about the fourth dragon we see in some of these tears of the Kingdom trailers? The dragon person add the fourth dragon look really similar and they’re both knew. Not the three headed one, the one that circles, the sky islands and is a new different colour.
That’s an apt observation. The two could be the same.
@@wizcatcheslightning Some have theorized that Link gets to the sky island starting area via the help of a dragon...
That one is important, when you see it register it on your tablet, by the middle of the game you should have already some suspicions
well guess what
I just came to a crazy realization. "They say we Hylians have big ears in order to hear the voices of the gods…but I’ve never heard them!" What if Hylians have pointed ears to resemble the ears of the gods? That can explain the similarities between Zelda and the god figure. Because Hylia was a dragon.
That’s exactly where I was trying to lead people my dude 😎👉👉

I still love coming back to this one, Wiz. You called the Zonai Hylia connection very early, nice one!
@@cato3277 much appreciated Cato. Hope you’re doing well 😎
Very nice video!
Awesome comment! Willing to hear more if you have more to say on this!
@@wizcatcheslightning Thank you!
It may be a day or two before I do. It's actually something I just thought of this last weekend. And need to do a draft, and then clean up the finer points. Lol
@@getshwifty3101 take your time! Good things take time ha ha. I’ll be here
Full Theory
Despite being called the Demon King, I believe Demise isn't actually a Demon.
And 2) A telling of what Demise REALLY is:
The God of Destiny.
While it seems far-fetched, it actually would seem to fit into the Lore of LoZ.
The 3 Golden Goddesses: Power, Wisdom, and Courage, are the ones that made the World. But they left it into the hands of "Others."
Hylia is the only other God mentioned.
Thanks tenkerr! Appreciate the view and the comment. Hope to make you proud again in the future

Much like how Fujin was often depicted in Ao to show that he has the power to control the wind in the sky.
makes sense, great video
Thanks!
Humans have actually almost lost the ability to keep an oral tradition with the rise of literacy. If you played a game of telephone with a less literate group of people with a strong oral history, they’d probably only get one word wrong.
I like this point!
Nice hypothesis, but we'd need to test it with scientific method, sounds nice!

My only change would be that the Zonai and the god tribe are not the same, however they have a connection to each other.
This is the god damn Zelda theory I’ve been looking for! This is so well done.
Thanks Johannes! Glad you found my video 🤗
THANK YOU!! This brings so much more to the table then "Its the Zonai!! :0". This makes me believe that the Zonai are possibly similar to the Sheika as a tribe dedicated to serving a purpose the Gods have given them

Hate to break up this party but that is indeed a Zoani on that mural, one that will play a very important part in the new game in fact!

@@unusual854 great suggestion! Working on it now
Just throwing this out there, but the actual first appearance of "goddess" in Zelda history is in Zelda II: The Adventure of Link--what the NA (NES) version called the "Trophy" was actually called a goddess statue, a "Megami-zou 女神像" in the JP (FDS) version.

I’m picking up what you’re putting down
Nice job❤
@@tristanneal9552 glad you agree! That argument took some time and research to strengthen.
The artbook kind of confirms this theory, since there are some characters that look like normal Hylians but with longer ears and ancient clothes.
Wrong!
some of the stuff was inverse but it was pretty good theory crafting
Even a blind squirrel finds a nut, hahaha
THANK YOUUUU, I've been saying Rauru is a dragon.
That would be epically cool if true 😎

As Hylia represents Amaterasu
Link represents Tsukuyomi. Tsukuyomi spends eternity chasing her across the sky.
What if Link is a deity as well & connected to the Zonia or his followers to say?
In Majora’s Mask he wears the Diety Mask his armor has one crescent moon & a piece of the triforce as well as the silver stone cufflinks same as the type of stone look in Tears of the Kingdom robots.
If you also look back at the mask itself it has the forehead curve & the two dashes on both eyes ,separate from Majora’s Mask
If you look at the skin tone of the god race silver hair and grey skin its a close resemblance to Dark Links silver hair & grey skin as well
Hope you love the theory & amazing video

I've always posited that the Zonai will be to Link what the Gerudo and Sheikah are to Ganondorf and Zelda respectively.

Speaking of the game telephone…
I have played it online via text messages with people where you can LITERALLY COPY AND PASTE and/or follow a paper trail to the original message and the original message is still lost.
Exactly 😎
And great example! That provides some excellent context to what I was trying to say. Thanks for taking the time to comment!
Hah! shows what you know, the zonai weren't even in tears of the kingdom 🤣🤣🤣
1- He has scales on his body resembling the scales of dragons (that’s an easy one)
2- he has a scar on his forehead where a horn could have been removed because, like you said, the prologue of skyward sword shows a horn when talking about Demise.

Sorry to spoil something for you!
What’s curious to me is the blatant changes made from LTTP to OOT, and then the distinction made by the light spirits of Twilight Princess.
You know I also thought he wouldn’t be a zoni. But dang we were wrong 😭
But hey, draconification ;D
The only thing that i see as an inconsistence is the fact that demise said in skyward sword that the form of hylia before she became zelda it was a divine form without flesh
Alright, but get this…
Scales = not flesh
And as far as a “divine form”, dragons were considered to be gods in Japanese folklore.
pretty darn close to the truth of the matter with this one 👍
Thanks Kazuha 😎
Fun theory that popped in my head during the video. Since the 3 dragons each represent a piece of the triforce, what if they were able to combine and make like a super dragon that embodies the whole triforce
That would be awesome!
Did you play the original hyrule Warriors? Not sure how Canon it is, but there we actually get to promised golden land that ocarina of time speaks of. Dont know the name of the stage, but its music is called "Silent Guardians" (sick track btw). No Dragon people to meet there, though.
Hyrule warriors isn't canon at all, but the sacred realm/silent realm has existed since link to the past in the lore
I’ve heard that Hyrule Warriors isn’t canon but something that’s interesting that I recently saw was that there is specific music playing from Age of Calamity in the latest Tears of the Kingdom trailer!
The claws on dragons denote their importance. 3 claws are the lowest tier, 5 claws is reserved for the emperor. You also count the thumb, btw

Working backwards through your content. In general, I think you are on the right track. I think it's interesting that while the Zonai were called gods, it seems like they don't consider themselves to be gods. I also think the similarity between them and the Minish are striking.
Yes I agree, because the entire time we play any Zelda game, it’s through the lens of the Hylians and through the lens of oral tradition.
and then the game came out and the person in the meural is a zonai named rarue XD.

Rock n roll 😎
No it isn’t. He’s a Zoani, a very important one at that whom is seen in the trailer.
Interesting connection to China with the silk moth considering the Chinese influence in the Zonai glyphs, architecture, and music.
Something that’s also interesting that I didn’t put in there was the dragon was adopted from China to Japan. Didn’t know how to fit that into the video. But the Chinese dragon is typically depicted with 5 digits while the Japanese dragon only has 3-4 digits.
The plot from Ōkami is very similar to TOTK.
Look up the Japanese legend of the Dragon’s Pearl 😎
