Why do you think the Tower of the Gods was created? To help forge a new chosen hero. Similarly to the three pendants from Link to the Past, the Pearls were a way to create a new Chosen Hero. A way to guide the new Link to the Master Sword. A way to forge a new hero within the sacred flames of Courage, Wisdom, and Power... just like it was done in the beginning.

This is actually one thing I've noticed that isn't talked about much. The "adult" timeline is actually the original timeline, the one that Link first woke up in and started his adventure in. The child timeline was a deviation from fate.
EDIT: another thought for you all to dance with: the timeline split doesn't actually happen when Link pulls the sword, it happens when Zelda sends him back at the end of the game. That's the moment the child timeline starts.

    • @balthezaar100

@@Starcat5 I believe at the end of the fallen timeline, after you wake up Zelda, she is remorseful for of all the destruction caused by Ganondorf to Hyrule and makes a wish on the complete Triforce to undo his destruction. This could be why link awakens the sages in the adult time-line. It gave him the extra edge to defeat Ganondorf. This would explain why the sage decendants are all Hylian in the downfall time-line. Link didn't awaken the new sages, so the sages of his Era would have been the ones we saw in twilight princess. Spirit sages from when the temple of time was built.

  • @RynRobitske

One thing that helps support this - the "true" Master Sword doesn't revert to its pre-awakened state even when it's lost is power. In Breath of the Wild, it's weakened to the point of rusting, but it's still clearly the Master Sword. As the one in Wind Waker is not in the form of the Master Sword until after the sages empower it, it's safe to say that it wasn't truly completed until that point (similar to how the "true" Master Sword didn't take that ship until it was truly completed in Skyward Sword).

YES! YES! YES! This is exactly what I've always thought ever since reading Hyrule Encyclopedia! There's a part where it says a Master Sword can be created when a "white sword is imbued with higher power". I believe we actually see it happen in the Oracle games. Even the master sword, as depicted in Skyward Sword, took the form of the Goddesses White Sword first. And if we go by this lore, even the Four Sword counts as a Master Sword (which would make sense since it also has the power to repel evil).

@Johnny Eyeball In FSA it was directly Zelda's magic that sealed Ganon into the Four Sword (Final Blow was technically Zelda). But the Master Sword has usually been the one to deal the final blow when it's used. Such as in OoT, TP, WW, and SS. While magic arrows are often used in conjunction, the Master Sword is typically the ultimate finisher.

I'd say rather after the Hero of Time era the limits on the sword had changed, as Link was determined to use that sword one way or another. After he defeated Ganondorf many years past without anyone using it so perhaps the Gods knew a new hero was bound to use it again eventually as the Hero of Twilight did as he was a very much related to the Hero of Time. As for Toon Link not being related to the Hero of Time is why when pulled it, it was just a basic sword until he proved himself he was worthy of its powers. I think generally it changes due to different art designs for each game but why would there be 2 Master Swords if they're all in the same location? Not exact place but area almost every time

I think there's a simpler explanation that doesn't need to have the Master Sword disappearing from the Wind Waker timeline.
Basically, there was no hero to draw the sword from the Temple of Time, so it was left there to be 'drowned' under the waves. But they still needed a sword to deal with Ganondorf, so they forged a new (weaker) one.

    • @DragonHeart53

While I don't know if the windwaker's master sword is necessarily weaker, it does make sense that when you are in the adult timeline, there is no master sword in the pedestal since link has it. And Since it clearly splits the timelines when he is sent back, Zelda, who would have still been the reincarnation of goddess Hylia, would have had the sages forge a new blade to replace the one they lost. As Hylia is the goddess of time, she would know that the Hero of Winds wouldn't be able to afford the same wait that the Hero of Time could to be an adult, so they made the new one with the intention that a child could wield it, instead of requiring Link to be an adult.

The location of the Master Sword in the Wind Waker can easily be in the temple of Time as in the adult timeline Hyrule castle was destroyed and one of the only large structures in Castletown that was left was the temple of Time. Maybe that is where Princess Zelda reestablished the kingdom after sending Link back in time.

  • @milestinker2178
    @milestinker2178 3 года назад +105

OR... the sword didn't disappear with Link into the Child Timeline, staying behind with Zelda after Link vanished, falling to the ground after his body disappeared into the past (all of which we just didn't see happen onscreen).
And then Zelda could have put the sword back in its pedestal in the Adult Timeline's Temple of Time (she was able to put the sword back in its pedestal in Breath of the Wild, so she may be allowed to carry the sword once it is out of its pedestal but simply cannot pull it out of the pedestal or use its power like Link can).
And then, since Hyrule Castle had been reduced to a smoldering crater by Ganondorf, the new castle seen in The Wind Waker could have been built over the Temple of Time, since its interior does bear a resemblance to that of the Temple. After all, knowing that Ganondorf vowed to return, the royal family could have wanted to protect the sword in hopes that a new Hero that could use it would show up (not knowing that one wouldn't appear in their lifetime) and thus could have integrated the Temple of Time into the new Hyrule Castle built around it. The lake that sits next to the castle in the Wind Waker would thus be the result of the aforementioned crater expanding and being filled with rain water over time.
The flaw about the sword looking the same in every 3D game except Wind Waker is that all of those games that tried to keep the sword's look consistent with Ocarina of Time came out after The Wind Waker. Twilight Princess was the first to establish this consistency, and then both Skyward Sword and Breath of the Wild followed through with it after. At the time that The Wind Waker came out, this consistency hadn't been established yet.
The argument only works in retrospect and argues that the makers of The Wind Waker deliberately made the Master Sword look different for in-story reasons rather than the more likely reason of mere artistic liberty superseding any brand consistency that had yet to be established at the time. Otherwise, had it been set forth earlier, The Wind Waker likely would have kept the sword's design the same, too. But it wasn't so it didn't.
Still, it's an interesting idea; I just don't see it being the case.

    Spoiler warning for TOTK
Well I'm pretty sure that in BOTW there would have technically been two master swords as well. Zelda turned into the Light Dragon and held onto the repaired master sword for Link to reclaim in TOTK, but she had to wait for centuries to do so. This means that when Link recovered the sword from the Korok forest in BOTW, the other version of the sword would be with the Light Dragon far up in the sky. I wonder what would have happened if Link accidentally stumbled upon both blades.

    • @Antigen__
      @Antigen__ Год назад +5

I thought about this. The bootstrap could've perhaps created some sort of Last Thursdayism situation where the exact moment when Zelda or the Master Sword got warped to the past, the universe sort of "corrected" itself for the chain of events in TotK to have always been as such. As in, everything from the Zonai first arriving in what would become Hyrule to the events of BotW did happen, and historical records are intact in the present, but the past doesn't actually exist anymore. It was all made over again and put in the exact right place for everything to fit the new events, post-time travel. It's why the Light Dragon wasn't ever present in BotW.
And to add to this, this isn't to say that before the warp, the history of Rauru and the Imprisoning War were any different. Ganondorf still explicitly mentions the "new" series of events and remembers Zelda in the beginning, but there's no conflict since this universal correction was only done to prevent Zelda and the Master Sword from existing in two places at once, possibly by the Master Sword itself.

I'm sure it's a different sword. In Ocarina, Link travels to the future that would become the Wind-Waker timeline with the Master Sword. There is still only the one Master Sword that Link has with him, because at the moment they are the same timeline and therefore no other Master Sword exists other than the one he is using. After defeating/sealing Ganondorf, Link is then sent back to the past, before he pulled the Sword and set the metaphorical Clock of the game in motion. Thus, in the future, they sent the only Master Sword of their Timeline into the past, or lost to time since Link didn't put the Sword back, but was sent back to before he pulled it, meaning that their Timeline does not have a Master Sword. Or rather didn't, seeing as Ganondorf states they, the "fools," made a new Master Sword. My only question is, since Ocarina Link didn't place the Sword back in the pedestal, and was sent back to before he pulled it, where is the Master Sword he had? Or rather, *WHEN* is the Master Sword he had?

1)Link was sended before he goes to the death mountain so if he was sended with the master sword using the logic of the one master sword by timeline then the master sword shouldn't be in the pedestal
    2) it could hapened like with the triforce, the triforce split in the adult timeline and the one in te child timeline go with their respective owners so in that way the master sword can stay in the adult timeline and of course it is also the fact that link didn't travel back in time with any of the stuff that already have before of zelda send him back

I personally believe that Link was sent back to the moment before or immediately after he pulled the master sword. I mean, why else would he be in the temple of time off all places, whose door is open which he would never be able to access if he didn't have all three spiritual stones? Not to mention the light that surrounds Link when he's sent back goes to the master sword. So when Link is sent back, he's sent back after Ganondorf had already attacked the castle with Impa and Zelda forced to flee. He already had the ocarina of time and all three spiritual stones in his possession. The part where he goes back to Zelda at the castle was her returning to the castle and waiting for Link to return, only to find the Triforce of Courage glowing on his hand. So what about Ganondorf? I have two theories: One, Ganondorf was forced to retreat after Link closed the sacred realm, fleeing to the Gerudo Desert, creating his army and later attacking Hyrule until he was captured and sentenced to death, only to be sent to the Twilight Realm. Two, Ganondorf himself was actually sealed by Link in the sacred realm, trapping him inside and preventing him from conquering Hyrule despite that he already had the triforce of power in his possession. It explains why Link has it in the end credits of the game, and it isn't until the hero of time removes the master sword once again, likely as an adult this time, that Ganondorf is set free and attempts to wage war on Hyrule. As for the master sword itself, I personally believe that the master sword stayed behind in the adult timeline with Zelda, who placed the Master Sword in it's pedestal. I also believe all the other stuff Link had, including the goron bracelet, stayed behind in the adult timeline, explaining why he doesn't have it in the child timeline.

Can't say I buy this one.
In Ocarina of Time 3D, the item description for the Master Sword labels it as a sword that transcends time to smite evil. If that were true, which I believe it is, then it's likely that the Master Sword simply transcended time and exists in more than one timeline simultaneously, appearing in the Adult Timeline (after it was taken out of it) for when it was needed to smite the ever-looming threat of Ganondorf.
The design is different because it's the second 3D appearance of the blade, so I'm sure consistency wasn't nearly as important for them at the time, especially with the drastic change of art style. Ganon's line about the people "below" (aka the people of Hylia) creating the Master Sword exists because Hylians DID make the Master Sword, until the Skyward Sword retcon. Wind Waker came out before Skyward Sword, so there was nothing to be done about that; and by the time the HD version of the game came out, they probably didn't even think to fix it.
The Sheikah certainly didn't make it either, as we see with the Royal Weapons that were horribly failed recreations of the Master Sword. Saying that the Sheikah of the past would be able to do it when the Sheikah of BOTW couldn't is a bit of a stretch.
The Master Sword in Wind Waker is the same blade, and it was never removed from any of the timelines because it transcends time, regardless of what pedestal it appears in. Sometimes Zelda lore just doesn't line up perfectly, but I think it lines up better if it was the same sword than if it wasn't.
Now, if you want to see an ACTUAL "Second Master Sword," turn to the Oracle games. Oracle Link receives his own unique version of the Master Sword there, disconnected from the Master Sword everyone knows.

My theory: The Hero of Time actually left behind the Master Sword and "inherited" it from the new timeline before Ganondorf attacked Hyrule. He placed it back in the pedestal and the Door of Time closed. The same thing happened with him "inheriting" the Triforce of Courage from the new timeline. In the old timeline, the Triforce of Courage shattered due to being torn away from its user. In the new timeline, this causes the Triforce of Courage to go to the Hero of Time and, after his death, the Hero of Twilight. The Triforce of Wisdom went to Princess Zelda and was passed on to the new Zelda in twilight princess. The Triforce of Power went to Ganondorf. This happened because of the Triforce of Courage being separated from the other two. The Master Sword lost its power after being torn away from its user and that's why it needs the Sages to keep its power. Along with this, the Sages gave it new powers by binding it to Laruto and Fado, who were most likely descendants of Ruto and Saria. Medli and Mekar were their descendants and successors, so they had the same powers. Its weak form is what happened after the Hero of Time left.

I enjoyed this theory, and you do bring up some really interesting points! Honestly, I'm on the fence on with the idea of two Master Swords because there are so many plot holes in-game that really leave it up to interpretation. Since this video is about what supports this theory though, I'd like to share some things I think may go against it. For WW, the Master Sword upon acquiring it was stated to have been wielded by the legendary hero. The only previous hero that has been mentioned in the game was the Hero of Time who only ever wielded the sword in the events of OOT, and is the only one that seems to be known to the people of WW. This next point may be a misinterpretation of your video, please correct me if I missed something, but if an artificial Master Sword was created after Ganondorf was defeated in OOT, and since no other hero appeared then up until the events of WW, wouldn't that mean WW Link was the first hero to wield that sword? That would contradict the in-game statement of the Master Sword in WW to have been wielded previously by another hero. Ganondorf also states that even though the sword has lost its power, it is _the_ blade of evil's bane, implying that it is the one and only sword that was used to defeat him in the past. Despite this though, overall I really liked your theory! There are plenty of valid points made in the video that still get me thinking even now, especially with that implication of Link's reaction at the end of OOT as well as with absence of a past Master Sword in Twilight Princess.
