5:40 Technically, Moogles started out as some sort of "cave bear" in FFIII. They're a koala with wings, according to Koichi Ishii, their designer. In FFVII's case, the Mog there is a very fat version of it. Cait Sith is also a reference to the Cait Sith (Stray Cat) enemy in FFVI, so it's a reference to both the Gaelic folklore cat and an FF enemy. Reeve is also important since he seems to function as the "good guy" person of the four heavenly generals of the emperor trope in FFVII. Despite being "untrustworthy", his role might be there to reference General Leo, imo- considering he helps the party a lot.
I’m pinning this. Completely forgot about Moogles being in FF3. Haven’t played that game in some time. Good catch. Also, I appreciate the other tidbits. I knew about the Cait Sith enemy. They continue that trope in Octopath Traveler.
Cait Sith is in my opinion Reeve's inner wonder, he comes off as a serious but hopeful person, and Cait Sith is outlet the person he wishes he could be a fun loving goofy yet witty cat.
Tbh, that was a very interesting concept. But I feel as if the execution didn't really deliver on it well enough since they waited til a spin-off to really get into Cait Sith/Reeve.... There's quite a lot of people that didn't play Dirge of Cerberus (in fact, I never got to finish it) so that meant there's a lot that can be considered "left out" in lieu of the spinoff/sequel.
I actually really liked Cait when I discovered he was Reeve. I thought that was an interesting concept. And they made it even funnier in Rebirth when you realize his fursona is being funded by Shinra
@@Chatrbuug Cait Sith's accent is actually Reeve's original accent. Reeve probably covered it up when he went corporate into Shinra. You can find a couple implied to be his parents in the Honeybee Inn which speak with the same accent. In the Japanese Cait talks in the Kansai dialect which is basically a rural accent or feels more like slang. It's apparently more obvious there. There's a scene where Reeva/Cait mixes the accents up and Reeve is stressed and talking to Heidigger and Scarlet about the Sister Ray and it's implied he speaks 'strangely' or with the accent and Cait Sith sharing the information to the group talks like Reeve without the accent which prompted the reveal.
Back when I played FF7 the first time, I didn't really understand Cait Sith's character. Whether it was due to me being too young, or the translation kinda massacring several characterizations, I don't really know. But I started to really, REALLY like him after watching FF7 Abridged. During his rant about hating his job, his character finally clicked and my opinion of him went from apathy to real understanding and sympathizing.
@@LoonyRaccoonsy It's literally made clear throughout all FF7 media that Cait Sith is sentient and has his own mind and voice. Reeve animates him, gives him orders and sees through his eyes. He does not remote-control him, he's not providing his voice, etc., otherwise there'd be these big stretches of time where Cait Sith is a lifeless doll.
I always interpreted the Cait Sith dance after Aerith's death more of a reminder of the fortune he gave to Cloud at the Temple of the Ancients. "You will find what you're searching for, but you will lose something dear."
Almost correct. Both Vincent's Death Penalty and Barret's Missing Score final weapons can be broken in such a way that they break the damage calculation and literally OHKO ANYTHING in the game. Granted this takes a little more build up but it's not reliant upon chance/slot manipulation. Which makes Vincent and Barret more viable than Cait Sith.
Yes, but beating them WITHOUT CHEATING is an actual accomplishment. Anyone can abuse a broken mechanic...that sounds weird. I don't condone the abuse of people who are mechanics by trade lol.
I've been seemingly the only person on the internet who has been waiting with baited breath for combat footage of Cait Sith since the moment I finished ReMake. When i first played FF7 at a mates house Cait was my favourite character before I knew any of the story and bought my own copy.
I cannot believe I never made the connection about his dance animation being him attempting to tell a fortune. That is legitimately brilliant, and I wish it was telegraphed just a bit more clearly back in the day.
From the moment he briefly cameoed in Remake, I knew that Cait Sith had the highest ceiling for a reimagined character. It is the equivalent of a future Star Wars show or movie making a badass out of Jar Jar Binks.
You accomplished what was believed impossible. To provide content regarding Cait Sith that is both entertaining, and enlightening. Strange times indeed.
Honestly, am I the only one that’s hyped for the Cait Sith/Barret dynamic? After playing remake, one of the first things I thought of when seeing Barret in HD is how cool it will be seeing Barret and Cait Sith interact and go at it. Dude hates Shinra, stupid doll works for Shinra. Hope they expand on it compaired to the original
I would be very happy if Barrett called him “cat shit” at least once. It would definitely help with my disappointment about the official name pronunciation.
Wow, that's rare. I can respect that. I know it's a stuffed toy, but still, why does this moogle have giant fangs? Like, a carnivore moogle ready to tear you apart?
Late to the party, but ditto to that. I actually didn't like Red XIII or Vincent when I was younger, but loved Cait Sith. Nowadays... I'm still not crazy about Vincent, but I still love that doofy cat.
I would've taken a second intermission DLC where we play as Reeve/CS in the run-up to platefall but I get that Yuffie is infinitely more marketable as an anime girl.
Good point. It made more sense for Yuffie too because you can technically get her first thing after Midgar. But as we can see with these trailers and sneak peaks, she didn’t have her battle kit fully explored, so it would have probably been the same for Cait Sith
@@wizcatcheslightning Yeah, I can't wait to spend 100 hours mastering all the weapons etc. I'm most looking forward to how much better all the characters are, like the Yuffie DLC alone does a better job of making people like her than anything in the past 25 years. Can't wait to fall in love with Cait Sith now lol.
@@wizcatcheslightning In a follow-up, yes he did get a major glow-up. He was far more likable this time around and interestingly they changed his fortunes + he also doesn't give one after the ending events of the game.
I always sort of just liked Cait Sith. He was mysterious and his limit break was interesting .. even if I was too young to fully understand it… I also really love his theme. So jazzy, so chill. Really sounds like a casino type jam.
Yes, I did know that. Even as a child, my main party included Cait Sith because he had the most MP and the most materia slots for magic. Giant ball of HP and MP with Cure3 and Ultima.
I used to think when I was Little the cat was named Cait and the Mog Doll was Sith XD Now in the Rebirth he is giving studio Ghibli and im alllll here for it baby
So I've had the theory for several years now that Reeve is actually a descendant of the Cetra and isn't aware/was right under Shinra's nose and they didn't realize either, and my reasoning for this is exactly because of Cait Sith and Reeve's ability to 'inspire' him into being. My reasoning behind this is that the only other place where we see any creature at all LIKE Cait Sith is in the Temple of the Ancients, the very place he sacrifices himself. The Temple is guarded by these ancient sentries with bodies that should be inanimate, but have their own sense of will and personality like Cait Sith has. If the sentries guarding the Temple were brought into being by the same magic that Reeve uses for his funny little fursona OC, how did this middle aged desk jockey learn this obscure, ancient magic?
ill never agree with this cold ass take that cait sith was never good. As a party member, he embodies the archetype of seemingly useless, but potentially devastating, And in the story, he's every bit the character he is in rebirth, which faithfully represents him. I still remember when remake got a lot of credit for "fixing" Aerith, when really all it did was faithfully adhere to her original characterization, as opposed to the traditional heroine that kingdom hearts and the compilation of final fantasy VII chose to represent her as.
For everyone obsessing over the pronunciation of Cait Sith, no one’s asking real important questions about his moogle monster mount. Does it have a name? Does it have hopes and dreams? Does it have autonomy? The fact that Reeve’s cat bot commands it with a megaphone suggests that it does.
It does. It’s called Mog. I believe it is just basically a combat mech for Cait Sith though cause you can notice whenever he’s atop it in Rebirth and moves it moves the same direction.
Why i loved about rebirth, eventhough i didn't like the final chapter, was his redemption, how he choses to talk to cloud and make personal apology to every party member, that gave him a lot of humanity tbh
Bro, your reading of Cait Sith's farewell animation to Aerith in the OG FF7 almost made me cry. I never thought of it that way, and now I can't stop thinking about Cait Sith's sadness and the futility of them trying to read Aerith's fortune as one last bit of hope. Man, that hits hard.
Holy crap i have GOT to use him, the dance leading to a belly flop looks so funny and given his size, PAINFUL, the energy beam is the cherry on top for me.
I remember when I first saw Daigo with long hair I immediately thought to myself “Is that Reeves from FFVII?” So apparently I am not the only one who sees this likeness.😂
@@wizcatcheslightning he is actually pretty strong if you give him a chance regardless, Him and Yuffie are Really good and prob the strongest characters in the entire game other than Cloud and arguably Tifa.
@@BANKSREGIME looking at stats he has third best MP (tied with Vincent for 3rd) and his spirit is up there as well. Cloud seems to inch him out at every opportunity along with other characters in some skills. I just could not play him in the original. Just didn’t do it for me. I’m looking forward to reborn Cait Sith however.
I always assumed Cait Sith was an autonomous doll Reeve could speak through that mostly recieved orders and transmitted data, not a remote controlled puppet. But yeah, loving Rebirth. Not perfect, but seems like they're able to explore things in more depth than before. Only like halfway through it but so far it feels true to the original vision while adding enough of a twist to make it feel fresh.
12:11 looking back its hilarious that they did EXACTLY that, only actually playable in the flashback and you get 1 fight in a hard mode simulator thats it
FF9’s moogles were top TIER! Also; I don’t think FF7 knows what moogles look like. 7 has always had the ugliest moogles, and Rebirth is no exception. I loved that FF16 went back to the FF9-style design. I also liked FFTA and 12’s moogles despite how different they were to the rest of the series
Based Moogle appreciator ^ To lend some credit to the design of ff7 Moogles (never thought I would be doing this), I think they’re directly inspired by the ff3 Moogles, which were supposed to be small koala bear like critters according to koichi ishii (allegedly). But yeah FF9 > Nektar the Bold > FF12/FFTA > everything else
@@wizcatcheslightning ooo! Looking forward to meeting the moogles in FF3. I wanna see FF bring the beavers from FF2 back hahahha. Also; great video dude! I always thought Cait Sith was just dry humping the air when Aeris died, but knowing he’s trying to tell her future made it sad af. I’m also not sure; is Cait Sith a monster being controlled via Reeve and the crown; or was Cait Sith created by Reeve?
@@dukey03 😆 Thanks Dukey! He seems to be a biological robot, which is a term I’m still exploring. I say this because he can get poisoned. There’s a loose universal law system in ff7. For example, Hell House (writing a college dissertation on that son of a gun) follows the same rules, whereas other robots don’t.
Look man, I grew up with FF7 and as a small 4 year old the funny mascot creature with a cute cat on his back and a wildly risky and strange set of Limit Breaks. I loved this weird little guy and that love has persisted through my twenties.
You think they should improve Cait Sith's character in rebirth and get him to be a functional character he desrved better writing and better battle mechanics since hes so cute
Hah! This is amazing! As someone who got into FF7- no, Final Fantasy in general all because of 7 Remake (and I now am planning to play 9 and 10, both of which I have in my steam library waiting) I have grown a deep love for this world and its characters that can be done justice moreso than ever before. It's saddening to hear that this goofy guy was such a total writeoff in the original game. But with how Remake has been building up Reeve's character, and the Remake/Rebirth team's work on literally everything else, I am excited for Cait Sithe- I'm excited for all of it!
Welcome to the FF world! FF9 is amazing, it was my first and favorite as a kid. Really captures the “fantasy” aspect of the series pretty well. Excited for rebirth! This may be the greatest remake/video game trilogy ever. Looking really promising. What they did with the character dynamics and relationships is really amazing. And the combat! My goodness, I can’t wait to play with Tifa again. Her synergy attacks with Cait look insane
According to a wiki and his body he is in fact both: "They resemble real-world big cats with their roaring, body shape, sharp claws, teeth, and overall movement, although they share some characteristics with wolves and other canines, such as howling and non-retractable claws." "Red XIII's species is never named in the series, but could relate to shisa and komainu that derive from Chinese "guardian lions", and resemble a cross between a lion and a dog. "Lion-dog" statues are used as wards, people placing pairs of shisa on their rooftops or flanking the gates to their houses, and komainu seen alongside temple entrances. In the Final Fantasy VII series, Red XIII's species act as the planet's guardians."
How is the combat? I was so excited for the remake project, got the first part as soon as it was out and only played for like an hour. Even making use of the weaknesses and everything the fights were just way too long, like seriously four times longer than they should have been for normal mode. If they were difficult fights that'd be one thing, but even the first enemy in the game takes like 90 seconds of constant attacking to take down, it's just not fun at all lol.
@@damiencouturee6240 His combat is definitely the most different and risk/reward in comparison. You have to rely on first strike materia so you can have an atb bar ready to summon your moogle. Otherwise you have to build it up and he’s really squishy and takes a bit to build up. Once you get the right setup and Jam Pack luck bonuses he has the ability to hit like a truck.
I know Cait Sith sucks, I’m pretty sure he’s statistically the worst character in the original FF7, but I loved him. He was so weird, but I think that’s what attracted me to him. My final party was Cloud, Cid, & Cait Sith.
his name is cait sith in english translations. But in the Japanese translations however, its ケット・シー (ketto shi) which is a japanese way of saying, ket shi (or cat sí?)
Don't know why I got recommended this video 5 months later but I just wanted to mention I always loved Cait Sith but he gets a LOT more screentime and personality in Dirge of Cerberus. Same thing with Yuffie and of course Vincent they all get much needed spotlight in Dirge that they were lacking in the original game. I'm aware Dirge didn't review that great but being able to see these lesser utilized characters is a treat and also I'm just a sucker for that PS2 jank aesthetic 🤷 Edit: Also just remembered Reeves in general is significantly more important post FF7 (AC and Dirge) because he basically takes over Shinra and runs it humanely attempting to right all the wrongs of prior leadership.
Good notes here. Yeah this video decided to take off after my most recent post. Glad to see it getting some more eyes like yours on it. I put some work into it 😅
@@josephd8129 the PR answer would be “…find out in my next video!” But my short surmising answer would be that he hasn’t left my party since he joined it. He can combo well regardless of whether he’s alive (the doll can battle without him once summoned). His attacks do pressure off the bat. He can also stagger easily with basic attacks. He makes luck builds viable. The skills I have so far with him are awesome. His synergy skills are great as well. He’s a shoe in for hard mode. I joked about gambling only being fun at the dragon quest casino. Cait Sith IS the dragon quest casino
Not only did they expand upon Cait Sith, but they actually made him a fun party member who is broken too lol. He gets a 2 ATB ability which is Lucky Slots and if you switch to someone else and use it, you don't even have to manually stop them and I'm pretty sure you get a random broken beneficial effect. One of them gives the whole party auto life, and the only other one I saw does a lot of damage which can pressure and stagger. Overall he's just so damn good in Rebirth, I have used him at every chance I've had since I got him.
1) Great pfp 2) I completely agree. I only have two of his weapons so far, but I’m noticing there’s already a lot of broken things he can do. If Mog doll is summoned but Cait Sith is dead, for example, the Mog doll can still attack the enemy
@@wizcatcheslightning Yeah, he gets some crazier abilities later on. Also thanks, Zidane is the goat and so is FF9. Praying for that rumored remake news 🙏

@@wizcatcheslightning Yeah. FF9’s only problems are small issues like with the Trance system not being something you get to use often and the animations/actions are very slow, but imo it is still the perfect Final Fantasy.
Great video. Now THIS is what remasters/remakes should be for. Bringing unpopular or underwhelming aspects within the game into the forefront by reworking them into something awesome and more interesting. FF7R's got it figured out.
BREAKING NEWS CAITH SITH IS NO MORE USELESS 😮😮😮😮 how im suprise when i fight him first time and i see he"s pretty strong he got reaally usefull skills he really can do something which no one can do but he still got that stupid box level BUT STILL in fight he can be really really usefull this is not ff7 rebirth this is caith sith redemption
Cait Sith was my 2nd fav after Aerith.. also Cait Sith started out as a mole, and his story arc for betraying Shinra to side with Cloud's party. he's also a mystery unit. self questioning, self doubt. and all that. (hard to explain now at 35+ year old, but i related to him when i was in my teens) i guessing you prejudge him too quickly and didnt give him the benefit of the doubt...
Can't believe I just sat through 12 minutes of pure SLANDER just to get to the good stuff. Let me be perfectly clear: Cait Sith has _always_ been awesome. He's an interesting character who is both goofy and serious, both cat and man (and moogle), both friend and foe. He plays a pretty significant role in the story, acting as the party's man on the inside, and despite the betrayal, he always fights _for_ Cloud and friends. Gameplay-wise, however, he is far and away the best character in the game, in that he can defeat any enemy in a single turn with much less investment than any of the other characters that can do so. The only requirement is to get 40 kills Cait Sith, so basically right from when he joins, you can get an insta-win machine for any fight left in the game. It is telling that there are entire speedrun categories where the only additional rule is that you can't use this one move. Aside from that, he is the best spell-caster in the early-to-mid game because of the Silver M-Phone, which is obtained in Mt. Nibel and has 8 unlinked Materia slots. Since Materia increases stats, more slots means more stats, which is enough for him to reverse the gap in Magic and MP with Aerith -- for whom he's essentially a drop-in replacement after Disc 1 anyways. In mid-to-late game, Vincent does bring just a _dash_ more to the table in terms of MP, while the sacrifices to HP and Attack are made up for by his ability to shoot from the back row.
Mever used him in the OG, ever. Hated his kit. So in Rebirth I wasn't hyped for him at all, but when I got him, holy shittin shit. That cat is friggin broken as hell! I absolutely love him now. His basic attack staggers more than the crowd at a Lynyrd Skynyrd show. And his new kit is absolutely incredible. Get a 4th party member, the suuuuper punch in "fortune teller" the cool dice, and of course the fact that he can build up stagger faster than you can fart. They made a nobody into HIM.
I absolutely agree. I was 10 when the og FF7 came out, and Cait Sith was always just there. With the advent of voice acting, I really got liked him in Dirge of Cerberus, but Square Enix did amazing with him in Rebirth. I love his voice, accent, and cuteness, and I like that he primarily functions without the cumbersome moogle, but to be honest the moogle is even more likable. He has been in my party since I got him.
I never got why people kept calling Hope a crybaby. He's literally like a 10 year old kid who watched his mom die and is now being hunted as an enemy of the planet. But in og ff7 aerith was my least favorite character
14* To be quite honest with you, I was doing it for the meme. The last time I played that game was the first week it was out (when I beat it). Yeah I understand people loving Aerith, but Tifa makes more sense as a love interest to me. She’s also just more endearing. Aerith already has Zack.
He worked better in Rebirth for me because I wasn't reading his dialogue and imagining he had the voice of Barney the Dinosaur which gets annoying to read.
Cait Sith is the comedic humor of the party. The accent, the charm, the attacks and the visual angles make having him as an active party member a... party. xD
Honestly I always liked Cait Sith. He's a funny robot plushie man, and I think him having a connection to Reeve was always really interesting and gave more depth to the Turks. I miss the Gaelic pronunciation though, I think it's way more interesting that "kate sith"

when people say catchy... just because the japanese can't pronouns Cait Sith... my lord, even the official Twitter Account from Square Enix says his name is pronounced Kate Sith
I’ve seen that UI manipulation, and it’s super cool. He just wasn’t for me in the original. But I’ve turned a new leaf with him in rebirth. I love him now
i always liked cait sith, but i wasn't that proficient in english the first time around and i thought cait sith was the mog doll at first so this megaphone weapon didn't make much sense to me at the time. however i can see why people didn't like cait sith, mainly because he kinda sticks out like a sore thumb and he wasn't edgy and cool and his limit break was generally hot garbage with the chance of creating a game over, could you imagine tifa having a game over slot in her slot machine, yeah that would probably tank their popularity quite a bit. ofcourse cait siths story without proper context was confusing and often antagonizing to most players so most players would judge cait sith by his first impression as a dopey antagonist who sucks to play as. but what i saw was a fun loveable character that had a few tricks up his sleeve who wasn't perfect, who made mistakes who actually brought light to an overall dark and quite somber game.
Waiting on them to cook like I did for Cyberpunk (only played 7 hours before putting it down at launch, gonna jump in with the DLC and all the quality of life mods to have the ultimate almost fully first time Cyberpunk experience soon!) Once part 3 is out I'm pulling the trigger on the PS5 (or let's be honest, probably the PS6 by then lol) and playing all of them with fresh eyes. Haven't even seen a let's play on the first part. I'm so excited and am happy I have plenty of other great games to play while I wait! Life is good man
@@wizcatcheslightningthey had a steal of a deal for FF 9,12, and 15 GOTY edition on Xbox so I’ve been playing those. Just 100% completed 15 which is another great example of a game that needed time to cook cuz I know at launch it was only like 60% of the content the GOTY edition has, the score shortly after launch isn’t accurate anymore I’d say, being as objective as possible, FF 15 is between an 8/10 and 9/10 just depends on your preference in RPG games
My party always was Cloud (since you can't change him) Vincent and Red/Nanaki, and it will also be in the new game... if Vincent would've been playable but since it was already known pre release that he wouldn't in rebirth his place will be taken b Aerith, just because she is apart from Barret the only other character next to cloud who can attack airborne enemies by default.
I wasn't into FF7 until I played Crisis Core, and still then haven't actually completed a full playthrough of OG. Perhaps my opinion of Cait Sith is predominantly influenced by speedruns and Machinabridged. But honestly my least favorite was Vincent. The reason I told myself FF7 was overrated back in the day was because I thought Cloud was a mopey edgelord. And all of those impressions were fueled by Squares fumbling with the character in other media at the time, like Kingdom Hearts and Dissidia. And I felt like Vincent was trying to out edgelord the MC in his own game. Granted I now know that Cloud is a socially awkward nerd fronting as a badass, that FF7 is one of the funnest worlds Square has created that somehow makes the silliest jokes land in spite of being paired by some of the gravest moments. The fact that Vincent is a literal vampire isn't accidentally absurd in a failed attempt at coolness, it's intentionally silly, it's part of the vibe. But Cait Sith best exemplifies the heartwarming silliness of FF7, and I can't not love him. There's no subtlety to his character, the way he forces his way into your party is a feature, how it's immediately obvious how corporate he is. The betrayal was shocking but the fact that he's a double agent, not really. And he's just a silly little guy.
I only came to like the cat after playing Dirge of Cerberus and the bonus missions with him as a playable character. However, still don't like the moogle doll.
Mog Doll has finally grown on me after all of my time with Cait. Also someone pointed out that the Mog doll looks ridiculous because Shinra is so out of touch with the magic in the world (they phrased it a lot better) and I really like that interpretation
Cat-sith is a character from celtic mythology. Cait Sith is a character from Final Fantasy 7. They are 2 different characters. One is derived from the other, they are not the same. Cait Sith is a robot controlled by a Shinra employee. Cat-sith is not a robot. That right there should be enough to clue you people in that they are not the same character.
His name is “ketto shii” in Japanese, so they went with the Gaelic pronunciation. They only changed it for the English localization. Obviously, they’re not the same character and Cait Sith is just inspired by Cat-sith, but I would have preferred if they had kept the original pronunciation.
Well, it didn't help Cait Sith in the original at all considering the customizability in FF7, you only really had Cait Sith if you knew how to abuse the slots... Cause outside of limit breaks and weapons, the characters literally could play each others' roles.... Also, Cait Sith in the original was the WORST character for me in any FF game. At least Hope had some good skills to use if you knew what you were doing (I find Snow to be more annoying than Hope in FF13 as well... but Snow still had some slight uses).
Moogles didn't really exist in ff7 though. One was summon and I could accept that as a mythical creature. In Mogtown its a game moogle. The doll gives me a hint that moogles are that mythical and well they are seen as merch for children or collectors in FF7 originally.
I used Cait Sith in my playthrough of the original ff7 Vincent you got way too late. Don't remember much it was 27 years ago, I do remember going after the Weapons when I accidentally erased my game. All I had left was one save before finding Tifa.
I didn't know that, that's actually kind of strangely genius. I will do a fortune tell on her, if she has a fortune, I know this isn't the end for her.
1) the dog thing was a running gag in rebirth 2) Nomura describes him as a cat in interviews 3) he’s based off of the Chinese fu dogs, which were stone lions with some canine features, but also, guardians of the planet
I actually have replaced Red XIII with Cait Sith in my playthrough of Rebirth as his voice actor, overhauled personality and play style are compelling.

I always interpreted the Cait Sith dance after Aerith's death more of a reminder of the fortune he gave to Cloud at the Temple of the Ancients.
"You will find what you're searching for, but you will lose something dear."
Ironically Cait Sith is the strongest person in FF7 if you learn how to manipulate his slots ability. His instant kill limit kills all but 2 bosses .
I know I used him to beat EMERALD WEAPON.
Me: (gets Barret's ultimate weapon to do overflow damage so everything but Ruby Weapon goes down in 1 hit)
Also me: Do what now?
Almost correct. Both Vincent's Death Penalty and Barret's Missing Score final weapons can be broken in such a way that they break the damage calculation and literally OHKO ANYTHING in the game. Granted this takes a little more build up but it's not reliant upon chance/slot manipulation. Which makes Vincent and Barret more viable than Cait Sith.
@@grin_of_grimmsnarl1333dumbass can’t kill ruby and barret can’t kill the enemy named Ying
Yes, but beating them WITHOUT CHEATING is an actual accomplishment. Anyone can abuse a broken mechanic...that sounds weird. I don't condone the abuse of people who are mechanics by trade lol.
20yrs later, and that scene still pangs at my heart.
but then realizing what CaitSith's dance really meant.. 😭 😭
I've been seemingly the only person on the internet who has been waiting with baited breath for combat footage of Cait Sith since the moment I finished ReMake.
When i first played FF7 at a mates house Cait was my favourite character before I knew any of the story and bought my own copy.
I’m glad you finally got your comeuppance 😎

I cannot believe I never made the connection about his dance animation being him attempting to tell a fortune.
That is legitimately brilliant, and I wish it was telegraphed just a bit more clearly back in the day.
Holy heck, I missed that he was attempting to scry Aerith’s fate in hopes to find a manner in which she could be saved
when I heard that I started crying dude 😭
From the moment he briefly cameoed in Remake, I knew that Cait Sith had the highest ceiling for a reimagined character. It is the equivalent of a future Star Wars show or movie making a badass out of Jar Jar Binks.
Well said 😎
Nailed it. That tiny clip instantly made me want to use him in Rebirth. It’s going to be so good
Exactly what I’m thinking 😗
I still hate him. 😂 I tried. I really did. All it took was his alone section.

Good point here
I would be very happy if Barrett called him “cat shit” at least once. It would definitely help with my disappointment about the official name pronunciation.
definitely looking forward to that as Barret learns that Reeve is really on the side of the people, could be very interesting indeed.
@@TheAuron32yea and its funny that some people dont realize that and people still shit on him.
Cait Sith was always my favorite character. I always loved moogles and the fact that he rode around a chonky moogle made me like him even more.
Wow, that's rare. I can respect that.
I know it's a stuffed toy, but still, why does this moogle have giant fangs? Like, a carnivore moogle ready to tear you apart?
same bro!! i didn't know people hated him lmao, when i first played ff7 he was the one member i always had in my party
Late to the party, but ditto to that.
I actually didn't like Red XIII or Vincent when I was younger, but loved Cait Sith.
Nowadays... I'm still not crazy about Vincent, but I still love that doofy cat.
Same! I like the idea of a magical toy moogle being controlled by this toy cat!
He has a command devoted entirely to Dropkicking.
I also really love his theme. So jazzy, so chill. Really sounds like a casino type jam.
I’m certainly excited to play him in Rebirth
Wish I had made my Cait Sith video 2 years ago… I’ve actually always really liked Cait Sith.
There’s still time 😉
I’ve always pronounced his name as: Cat Shit, because the ONLY time I’ve ever used him; he wiped my party with his shitty limit break hahaha
That sounds about par for the course 😆
Yes, I did know that. Even as a child, my main party included Cait Sith because he had the most MP and the most materia slots for magic. Giant ball of HP and MP with Cure3 and Ultima.
I liked him then and like him now, but "Cait Sith's best contribution to the party is his occasional silence," is a great slam!
Full transparency here: he’s looking like he’s going to be in my final party. I’m beyond excited to test him out
@@wizcatcheslightning the in-game combat is bananas, I can't wait to do that synergy move!
I trust them to make him much better in the remake. Everyone other party member has been perfect so far.
That was super cool to read and I appreciate you sharing it!
ill never agree with this cold ass take that cait sith was never good.
I just think he's neat.
To be fair, I almost dropped tears when Cait Sith sacrificed itself in the Temple of the Ancients.
I’m glad someone is asking the right questions here 😎
It does. It’s called Mog. I believe it is just basically a combat mech for Cait Sith though cause you can notice whenever he’s atop it in Rebirth and moves it moves the same direction.
@@Timothy1395The whole thing is a robot dude, cat and all lol.

Thanks! He’s looking mighty exciting 😗

Reeve doesn't speak through him either. He SEES through him.
I'll come back to that video when our hype gets shattered

12:11 looking back its hilarious that they did EXACTLY that, only actually playable in the flashback and you get 1 fight in a hard mode simulator thats it
Rebirth is the best thing that ever happened to Caith Sith.
Based Moogle appreciator ^
To lend some credit to the design of ff7 Moogles (never thought I would be doing this), I think they’re directly inspired by the ff3 Moogles, which were supposed to be small koala bear like critters according to koichi ishii (allegedly).
@@dukey03 😆
Thanks Dukey!
He seems to be a biological robot, which is a term I’m still exploring. I say this because he can get poisoned. There’s a loose universal law system in ff7. For example, Hell House (writing a college dissertation on that son of a gun) follows the same rules, whereas other robots don’t.
I put Cait Sith into my party to try him out and I have not removed him if that says anything, plus he gets a really cool synergy attack with Barret.

Finally! Someone else who thinks Amarant sucks! Thank you!
God I hope so I love 7 and I love rooting for the little guys but too much about him is just confusing in the original gamr
I’m glad to hear all of that! I’m also excited for you to try out 9 and 10 for the first time. 9 is my all time favorite 😎
Red XIII is a dog always has been. He freaking howls in the Cosmo Canyon scene in the original. He has a limit break called howling moon.
His creator is on record saying he’s a cat
According to a wiki and his body he is in fact both:
"They resemble real-world big cats with their roaring, body shape, sharp claws, teeth, and overall movement, although they share some characteristics with wolves and other canines, such as howling and non-retractable claws."
"Red XIII's species is never named in the series, but could relate to shisa and komainu that derive from Chinese "guardian lions", and resemble a cross between a lion and a dog. "Lion-dog" statues are used as wards, people placing pairs of shisa on their rooftops or flanking the gates to their houses, and komainu seen alongside temple entrances. In the Final Fantasy VII series, Red XIII's species act as the planet's guardians."
He is SO much fun to play in Rebirth.

Cait Sith: …Too soon to do the Charleston shuffle?
I know Cait Sith sucks, I’m pretty sure he’s statistically the worst character in the original FF7, but I loved him. He was so weird, but I think that’s what attracted me to him. My final party was Cloud, Cid, & Cait Sith.
According to speedrunners and various others in the comments, he’s an overpowered necessity
his name is cait sith in english translations. But in the Japanese translations however, its ケット・シー (ketto shi) which is a japanese way of saying, ket shi (or cat sí?)
Sounds like it depends on which language you’re playing the game in
His name is pronounced correctly in literally everything but the English version of Rebirth.
I've used cait sith in my main party every playthrough, he's always been one of my top favorites, he's so cute & has an interesting plot.
I'm aware Dirge didn't review that great but being able to see these lesser utilized characters is a treat and also I'm just a sucker for that PS2 jank aesthetic 🤷
Edit: Also just remembered Reeves in general is significantly more important post FF7 (AC and Dirge) because he basically takes over Shinra and runs it humanely attempting to right all the wrongs of prior leadership.
Good notes here. Yeah this video decided to take off after my most recent post. Glad to see it getting some more eyes like yours on it. I put some work into it 😅
@@wizcatcheslightning Oh yeah man I can tell its really well made! So what is your opinion of Cait after playing Rebirth LOL

1) Great pfp
2) I completely agree. I only have two of his weapons so far, but I’m noticing there’s already a lot of broken things he can do. If Mog doll is summoned but Cait Sith is dead, for example, the Mog doll can still attack the enemy

Cait Sith was my 2nd fav after Aerith..
also Cait Sith started out as a mole, and his story arc for betraying Shinra to side with Cloud's party.
he's also a mystery unit. self questioning, self doubt. and all that. (hard to explain now at 35+ year old, but i related to him when i was in my teens)
i guessing you prejudge him too quickly and didnt give him the benefit of the doubt...
Oh yeah 10 and 16-17 year old me (the ages I played the game at) were tough customers.
I’m excited to try him out.
I love your fervor and I think I was wrong about him in a lot of ways before making the video. He will most likely be in my final party in Rebirth
Excellently said here. I mega magic box’d me a black hole yesterday for the first time, and loved it
I absolutely agree.
14*
To be quite honest with you, I was doing it for the meme. The last time I played that game was the first week it was out (when I beat it).
Yeah I understand people loving Aerith, but Tifa makes more sense as a love interest to me. She’s also just more endearing. Aerith already has Zack.
It's just people being misandrists.
He worked better in Rebirth for me because I wasn't reading his dialogue and imagining he had the voice of Barney the Dinosaur which gets annoying to read.
Cait Sith is the comedic humor of the party. The accent, the charm, the attacks and the visual angles make having him as an active party member a... party. xD
And then you have Cait Sith in FF Dirge of Cerberus.

No opinion you have can be meaningful for my experience.
i always liked cait sith, but i wasn't that proficient in english the first time around and i thought cait sith was the mog doll at first so this megaphone weapon didn't make much sense to me at the time. however i can see why people didn't like cait sith, mainly because he kinda sticks out like a sore thumb and he wasn't edgy and cool and his limit break was generally hot garbage with the chance of creating a game over, could you imagine tifa having a game over slot in her slot machine, yeah that would probably tank their popularity quite a bit.
ofcourse cait siths story without proper context was confusing and often antagonizing to most players so most players would judge cait sith by his first impression as a dopey antagonist who sucks to play as.
but what i saw was a fun loveable character that had a few tricks up his sleeve who wasn't perfect, who made mistakes who actually brought light to an overall dark and quite somber game.
Waiting on them to cook like I did for Cyberpunk (only played 7 hours before putting it down at launch, gonna jump in with the DLC and all the quality of life mods to have the ultimate almost fully first time Cyberpunk experience soon!) I'm so excited and am happy I have plenty of other great games to play while I wait! Life is good man
I am happy to hear that and I respect your approach. You’re absolutely right. I have a backlog of like…30+ games right now
@@wizcatcheslightningthey had a steal of a deal for FF 9,12, and 15 GOTY edition on Xbox so I’ve been playing those.
Well said. You’re the second commenter to mention speed running when it concerns Cait Sith
Cait Sith is one of the best gimmic characters in FF.
Cait Sith was very poorly handled when I originally played the game. I hope he makes a great character comeback.
Have you seen his recent info and battle trivia? He might be with me throughout the entire playthrough
No I haven't. And that's good, I want him to be awesome.@@wizcatcheslightning
@@humansvd3269 I think we’re in for a real treat 🥲
I love Cait Sith, such a goofy lad
“Rejected character of Chuck E Cheese…”, that cracked me up!!! Thanks for the smile today!!!
Glad you enjoyed that 😎
Well, it didn't help Cait Sith in the original at all considering the customizability in FF7, you only really had Cait Sith if you knew how to abuse the slots...
Part about Sephiroth being playable only in Nibelheim’s arc 😬😬😬
Red XIII is not a cat. He’s more of a wolf. So he’s a dog. He even says so in Rebirth.
1) the dog thing was a running gag in rebirth 2) Nomura describes him as a cat in interviews 3) he’s based off of the Chinese fu dogs, which were stone lions with some canine features, but also, guardians of the planet
I completely forgot about hope. Thanks for reminding me of him. Now I shall proceed to forget about him again. As well as the game he is from.
Ironic, because I used him in my party for 80% of my playthrough parties.
He didn’t leave my party in Rebirth
12:16 that didn't age well
I haven't finished the game yet but he has to be playable again right
The repeated comments about nanaki being called a dog or a cat is so funny to me 😂
Hey, I’ll take the engagement 😗
The name of that outro song. lmao
Good to see you, Moises!
I actually have replaced Red XIII with Cait Sith in my playthrough of Rebirth as his voice actor, overhauled personality and play style are compelling.
I just got him in my party and he’s fun! It’s also been a whirlwind of emotions so I could only test him a bit before stopping
This video has 2009 energy. It’s my favorite piece of internet content to come out in the past 4 years.
Wait you weren't sold when Tifa was using mog like a weapon while twirling???
