- With so many memorable characters throughout the entire Final Fantasy series, choosing just one from each game is no easy task. For this list, we’ll be highlighting our picks for the best character from each mainline Final Fantasy game whether they’re the main character or not. Final Fantasy VII Remake is my favourite Final Fantasy Game and my favourite Final Fantasy character is Tifa, because she's so powerful and defienitily beautiful! ❤
Final Fantasy 6 is my favorite one and my boy Locke was the best character. He had a serious Han Solo vibe going on.
Cid in 16 was by far the most charismatic Cid I have ever seen. The moment I heard his voice, saw his swagger, and got a glimpse of his attitude, he was one of my faves.

I suspect that was a joke - much as if he'd suggested Hope as the best character in FF13. Come to that, anybody other than Lightning in FF13.
Of of the big things FF7 has going for it is its overflowing roster of unique and interesting characters. It's probably equalled in that regard only by FF9.

Vaan from FF12 literally serves no purpose to the plot after bringing the party together. By his own words, he is "just along for the ride" when the party was asked why they were on their journey. Penelo is only there because she's Vaan's best friend.

I had some xp with Motion Capture and really admire modern FF titles' seriously fluid, accurate animations and movement and fight choreography - it finally did the cinematic style of the narrative justice. As well as the character's facial likeness and performance capture. Kudos to the devs. Ps. You almost saw me as Leon in these new Resident Evil games :)

If I have to be honest, Balthier basically carried FF12. Is Vaan really considered the best character in that game? Because the story barely focuses on him…..

I think basch is the best character in that game personally.
I didn’t really like any of them.
Not that I'm aware of the 3 I usually hear about are Balthier, Basch, and Ashe. Vaan I usually hear about on worst character lists. Maybe stats wise he's one of the better or something?
First in the list, you already know there's something wrong when he called Firion "Firian".

FF3 - Cid Haze
FF4 - Cecil Harvey
FF5 - Faris
FF6 - Celes & Locke (it's a tie for me)
FF7 - Cloud (Remake/Rebirth - Barret)
FF8 - Laguna
FF9 - Vivi (Zidane is too anime)
FF10 - Tidus (true protagonist, just misunderstood by a lot. he was knowingly sacrificing his existence without others knowing yet still keeping a smile on his face)
FF11 - didn't play
FF12 - Gabranth (FF Vader)
FF13 - Lightning
FF14 - Emet Selch
FF15 - Ignis (because of the DLC)
FF16 - Cid
FFT - Delita MF Heiral
FF7 to me is Sephiroth. I think he's one of the best video game villains of all time, and he's the first villain I hated as a kid because of you know what... Plus hes got the most iconic villain theme. Stories that can create a really good villain makes the story worth watching
For me it would be cloud and sephiroth as a close second. They both just have so much depth to them the reason cloud would be mine is he came from all of those problems broke and lost himself and still pieced himself back together again faced and conquered his demons. Definitely agree on sephiroth being the most iconic villajn still is my favorite of all time.

Picking one from VII is a tough one. Obviously it’s Tifa, but Vincent, Cloud, Yuffie, Sephiroth…it just keeps going.
How is Laguna not the best character in 8?! He is the only flushed out/likeable character in the entire game. Seifer has a cool concept behind him (Squall's nemesis and all that) but is so misused and poorly implemented that he barely leaves any impact on the player (and other characters, for that matter). He's cool and him cutting Odin in half was pretty awesome, but that's it
I agree. The whole list was about what I expected, but Seifer barely ever comes off as anything more than a one-note "Rival Blue to Trainer Red" antagonist. Even Zell had a better character arc.
Honestly, I think Final Fantasy 8 is too convoluted and often ambiguous to have great characters. But I think Squall is the best just because of his character development.
@@DRAGONOFDESTINYZ definitely agree on the first part, but wholeheartedly disagree on Squall. His development and relationship with Rinoa is so forced and Squall himself goes from being an asshole loner to a slightly-less-assholish-slightly-less-of-a-loner. And I just didn't feel his "becoming a leader" arc. Like, at all.
Laguna's arc on the contrary is well structured, emotional, has good chemistry and Laguna himself, as I already mentioned, is a very likeable fellow. I also really liked how Laguna's rather eventful life story, had an impact on the entire storyline and some characters (including Seifer). The conclusion to his arc is the only one in the game I've actually cared for.
@@jerrysmith8814 Laguna was just not really given enough time in the story, and I don't think it was really made clear who he was. Was he Squalls father? It wasn't even mentioned
@@DRAGONOFDESTINYZ no, he was just a Galbadian soldier. He was in love with Rinoa's mother during his service and later a sort of adoptive father to Ellone.
The original concept for FF8 was to have both Squall and Laguna to be fully fledged protagonists, but Laguna's segments were eventually drastically minimized. And even so, his 3-5 hour story manages to have more depth and cohesion than the main story line.
I do agree that he definitely deserved more time throughout the story, but considering the type of character writing of the rest of the cast, he definitely shines the brightest and somehow his briefly shown relationship with Raine is much more touching than Squall and Rinoa's (THE LEITMOTIF OF THE ENTIRE GAME)
Balthier constantly saying he's the leading man, but being stuck with Vaan was a slap on the face
Just wanted to confirm Balthier was the best one from FF12. Main or supporting character, he is the GOAT.

This is a trip down memory lane for me as a 90s kid I played a good amount of these games!
I've played every FF since FF6. My vote for the best (not neccesarily always my favourite) characters is: Celes, Cloud, Laguna, Vivi, Yuna, Balthier, Lightning, Ignis, and Clive.

Each to their own, and everyone has their own opinion. But I got to say, Zidane over Vivi? Seifer over anyone in 8? Noctis over Ignis? Why? I would say Vivi for 9, Squall, Zell or Quistis for 8, and Ignis for 15. (He literally goes against Ardyn, and is blinded because of him, still manages to fight through to help Noctis)
Zidane is a very likeable rogue, and his dynamic with Kuja is interesting. I'd say Vivi has a better character journey, though. And Seifer is a pretty complex villain so I wouldn't disagree there. But I'd choose Tidus over auron
Auron is probably my fav character of the franchise. I couldn’t even tell you why anymore, he still just fills my heart with joy. Everyone is extra sentimental about their first FF and their first fav tho.

I love Tifa like she was my own girl friend, but the best character in FF7 is Barrett. He steals every scene he's in and has all the most memorable lines.

Also, Ignis is the best FF15 character. Like, come on, did you not play his DLC? He literally created an alternate timeline where neither Noctis nor his brother-in-law would have died. Plus, he’s actually able to beat Noctis at full power. Not to mention he’s the guy who keeps the entire group in line, but isn’t above cracking jokes with them
The journey that Noctis takes and his sacrifice make him the best character in ff15 imo
@@DRAGONOFDESTINYZ Dude, Ignis was there with him almost the entire time. And Ignis quite literally also sacrificed his life in the parallel universe, seriously, you had to select the option to win. He was just rawdogging death at that point and couldn’t have cared less, he solo‘d Ardyn like it was nothing. Also, he (technically) killed a Malboro all by himself while being blinded not too long ago, that’s a whole other level of skill

Have some disagreements with a few but I was surprised by V. I enjoyed Galuf, Faris, Bartz but found Lenna less interesting

Clive's character arc is finished before act 1 even is finished. The game skips over most development Clive has with timeskips. Cid steals every scene he is in with far less screen time than Clive. I'd argue Joshua and Dion are more interesting than Clive.

I've haven't played much of Final Fantasy Games, but I have Final Fantasy XIV and XV on PC and I've been thinking buying and playing Final Fantasy VII Remake and Rebirth to PS5 defienitily Rebirth The Newiest One. Final Fantasy Characters what I know and like are Cloud, Sepiroth and Tifa (Final Fantasy VII), Noctis Lucis Caelum, I remember when I've watched someon'es Tqwitch stream about of FF XV, the Streamer and Chat said he looks like a Live Action version of Sasuke from Naruto, Cindy and Gentiana (Final Fantasy XV). I've been interested and excited for Final Fantasy XVI for a long time since it's launch, and I have PS5. Should I buy XVI on PS5 and play XV on PC before that? Square Enix Final Fantasy is easily 1 of The Best Video Game Series of All Time! 😊❤

We can argue for days over this, and some are debatable : I would definitely pick Yuna for FFX (most compelling character with the best story ark) and Ashe for FFXII (yeah yeah, Balthier's is cool but the whole story revolves around Ashe and she is one of the most fleshed out female protagonist of the entire series (much better than broody Lightning!)).
But who on earth thought there could be a better character in ANY Final Fantasy game than Vivi Ornitier??? I like Zidane but he's not even close second best!

FF13: Yes Lightning is one of the greatest Final Fantasy characters ever, I thoroughly enjoyed the 13 Trilogy

As for Final Fantasy 7, Tifa is great and I've fallen more in love with her in Rebirth but Aerith still tops my FF7 characters
Honestly 7s cast as a whole is just top tier its extremely difficult to pick an absolute best out of the group especially after their characterization in Remake and Rebirth.

Rydia in FF IV (FF II in the US) has always been one of my favorite characters.
I love Auron from Final Fantasy X. His nonchalant demeanor and misanthropic wisdom makes him my favourite as well. Also, he is a beast in battle.

You could have added the mmos easily. XI Shanttoto and XIV Emet Selch. Both these games have amazing stories and casts too. A shame not to include them in a list like this.
Luneth would not have 'faded into obscurity' without the DS version, he would not have existed - the original Famicom version reverted to the original game's 'nameless, almost entirely uncharacterised PCs'.
I agree with most of these! I'm impartial to 8, so I have no favorite. I would change 6 to Locke. Celes is a worthy candidate and great choice, though! I never played 2 or 3 but they're on my to do list.
