If the FF9 remake is true, I would start crying. That game was not only my very first Final Fantasy, but the game that got me to love video games. After ALL these years, I still have my Vivi plushie.

I hope they do a faithful remake that doesn't change the storyline like what they did with 7R.
I want it to be the same thing, but just improved and expanded upon. Like flesh out Amarants story more, properly conclude Freya's story arc, and maybe make Beatrix or Lani recruitable party members.
Other than that I don't want them to touch anything. Even the turn based battle system should remain intact.
I would personally take the FF7R battle system. I don't know if you've ever played Hard Mode for that game, but it's perfect if you're a fan of the ATE/ATB Battle System. I wouldn't mind seeing that in a FF9 Remake, because it reinvigorated the challenge that the game gave me as a kid.
On the other hand, the original battle system coming back would not be a bad thing either. I love the original game and what it did. And I wouldn't mind experiencing the JRPG grind all over again with a FF9 Remake. I'm just of the belief that the FF7R takes the battle system that was first demonstrated back in FF4 and takes it to what I think is the best it's ever been.
If it's AAA, the battle system ain't coming back, if it's a lower budget game, then it's more likely
@@SenorGuina Agreed. I think we can assume the same with the game being split into parts. If AAA, I think it will be split into parts. Square Enix has been about the profit for some time now (maybe we just forget about forespoken being a sunk cost haha)

Just wanted to share that "older brother" in tagalog is spelled "Kuya", which still makes sense with how the letter J is pronounced with the H sound for some names, like Juan. This fact really surprised me, nonetheless.

FF IX is my most personal part of the main series.
No part I played more and longer.
I discovered the playtime changes color every 100 hours, and I let it run by itself, saved it, let it run further, and making bets with my brother about what color will be next.
I discovered this thing back in the days when there existed no youtube nor any medium telling me secrets about games, so I had a blast.
The save game still exists, and I stopped at around 700 hours playtime. Every single time there was another different color. I wonder how far this goes on and why anyone would put it in there.
But it's fun and a nice memory with this game.
I spent hundreds of hours playing the card game, and I got several different music mixes of the soundtrack.
Nothing will ever be on the level this game is on, to me.
I even relate to some of the characters.
They can't ruin this in my eyes. Bring it on.
FFVIII and FFIX are my favourites in the series, and whilst either of them would cause me to get a PS5, I'm hoping for VIII more than IX, honestly.

If they do I'd really like to see them be able to clean up and add stuff that had to be cut down in the original such as Amarants storyline, more details about the bounty hunter he hung with, maybe a bit more about eiko and her tribe among other things

I have been feeling with recent entries into the series that Final Fantasy was losing its identity in an attempt to broaden its appeal. But if they do remake 9 and keep the heart of what makes that game special, then im beyond excited. Obviously they would probably adjust the battle system and expand on the game, but imo 9 has the most “heart” out of any final fantasy. You can feel the love poured into the game while playing.

Some of the casting choices felt a bit off with just how their voices sounded.
The fact characters bark dumb lines during combat.
The time manipulation bollocks changes to the plot.
Censorship like the change of the blood colour in the shinra building.

I guess they weren’t deal breakers for me, and I’m waiting until Rebirth before I definitively write the series off in my head. But I am trying to understand the other side of the appeal for the game and info like this helps with that so thanks again!
FF9 was the very first FF game and the only one that I completed a 100% with 99+ hours of gameplay time. As an early teen I was so invested in the game and even did my own researches and careful planning to get every single content the game has to offer. I do wonder though how the remake would look like though. Will it follow the FF7 remake graphics route or will it be an upgraded version of the old FF9, I would prefer the latter. PLUS... OMG BEATRIX PLEASE I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE MY LOVE AGAIN AFTER ALL THESE YEARS haha xD

@@wizcatcheslightning Sadly this was years ago I really don't remember the details. Though I remember doing all the chocobo treausures, getting all the summons, getting all legendary weapons, fighting all enemies, getting all the cards, and beating ozma which i'll never forget haha

I really hope this is real. I just replayed FF9 with the Moguri mod and I still didn't get bored, it's so good but has loads of room for nuanced world building and a better combat system (though I still like turn based).
You sir are giving me hope that this project is in fact real. I hope it is I bloody love this game! I'm one of many where this was my very first taste of FF and it shaped the way I look at video games in general and still my favourite story and game of all time.

TBH Id rather have 8, the bastard child of square. That world feels like it has so much more grunge to dive into with the Gardens, Delling and even the giant future town Esthar
Solid points. I’ll take it if they give us one! The story could definitely use a facelift. And how the system switches out junctions at the drop of a hat during the Laguna memories. Obviously, there are other improvements as well. I also think that a style similar to FF7R could be copied as far as how the game is remade structured.
@@wizcatcheslightning Exactly imagine any of the towns or cities of 8 looking as good as just midgar in FF7R. FF7R's biggest hype for me was always seeing midgar, bigger better realer and we got alot more than id thought we would. You could make a whole spin off of avalanche cells in midgar and id be happy.

I just hope the animated series will tackle the seriousness of the game (such as the attacks on Burmecia, Cleyra and Lindblum, the Black Waltz 3 killing all the 'dolls', Terra's destruciton etc.)

I'm so conflicted. Would I love a FF9 remake? Sure! I have fears though. S-E would likely try and "action up" the game, since apparently Final Fantasy is an action series now, not an RPG. And considering the whole concept of FF9 was supposed to be respecting what has come before, turning it into an action game seems kind of perverse to me. Also, they should 100% remake FF8 first.
I feel that. Personally, for me, the battle system of FF7R is the ultimate version of what we had for battle systems that started in 4 and took us all the way to 9 (you know, because 10 went back to turn based, the true roots of the series). If you have FF7R but have not played Hard Mode yet, I would highly suggest it!
RPG doesn't mean turn based combat. There are action based RPGs.

I am so hyped for the possibility for a remake. I remember hanging on every scrap of info for the 7 remake. Because I knew that if 7 happened and did well, this day would possibly come. Square would see the value in remaking their greatest hits in the final fantasy series. Many of us are much older and a certain part of me knows this is just cashing in on nostalgia. However, in my opinion they delivered with 7 remake. I have hope that they can and will deliver in the 9 remake. Great video, I look forward to getting my updates from you.

I never finished the game the first time I played ff9 but I just played it all the way through for the first time recently so I'd be totally stoked for a remake!
Dude. Same. And you know what it was? My younger self didn’t exactly understand the concept of grinding at the time. So when I went up against the Nova Dragon at the beginning of Disc 4 with level 36 characters 😅

@@wizcatcheslightning what held me back the first time I ever played was I kept getting killed by the Dragon's ontop of Gizamsluke Grotto not realizing there was a passway underneath it. I gave up on it pretty quickly lol. Glad I decided to give it another try, game is great! I felt very reminiscent of playing ff7 as a kid

I saw the paolo video as soon as it was released, I like his stuff and they’re usually really cool. When I saw video game company I thought, “no way it’s square.” But lo and behold it was! Given his sub size I have to think that it was all very intentional on squenix’s part.

This may sound weird but I actually want a Final Fantasy Mystic Quest Remake or Remaster.
I’ll take it! That was the first FF game to have a final boss with multiple forms (FF5-FF8 followed this gimmick as a matter of fact)
FF9 is one of my favourite games of all time, so this would be great. Although tbh, FF6 really needed the remake treatment more. FF9 still plays quite well if you get the upscaled backgrounds on PC.
I almost cried seeing this video. IX was my first FF game, and still is till this date. Got me hooked on RPGs in general. I had never played an RPG before. And to me this no other game I have played has toppled this one. A few have come close. But it's still up there. Can't imagine playing the Suikoden remaster, and then FFIX

It's my favorite in the series and remake has been pretty interesting (I'm about half way through hard mode) but I'd be down for FF8 also, that game need some love.

Hey, well thank you for clarifying. About 2 years ago, I was doing research for a video on the etymology of FF characters names. The results for “Kuja” came back and said that the word meant “older brother”. But, you know, words don’t ever translate 1:1 (especially for English speaking people). And the English language tends to make the letters “y” and “j” interchangeable depending on the language being translated into English. Once again, I appreciate you correcting the record 🤗

Okay okay probably not perfect but I already love it along with it's flaws. It looks great and plays great and it's nuances are part of my heart. Why does it need to be updated?
I think it could do well with a remake or even a sequel! But I completely agree with you. It’s my favorite FF game, and in my opinion, a mostly perfect game. If it doesn’t get remade, it won’t be the end of the world for me, and I’ll still attempt to get the coveted perfect game (including Excalibur II)

gotta say the 8-13 target audience is probably going to have a greater effect on it than you think.
Just because some of us may have played it in that age range doesn't mean thats the target age group. It just means our parents didnt check the ESRB ratings.
Pretty much every game is pressed for time, especially for Square, and a remake doesn’t necessarily mean they will put more time into it.
Now let’s say they do put more time into it - but Sakaguchi and most of the original crew is gone. So it probably turns into some timey-wimey bullshit like every other game they churn out these days.
Zidane fighting alternate timeline Kuja’s like a god damn Matrix sequel. I can feel the disgust brewing inside me already.
Well, here's hoping at the base level it's a 1:1 remake with some added bells and whistles. Think FF Tactics: War of the Lions, on PSP ;D
If they do a timey-wimey thing, it would make more sense than Lifestream Time Travel imo. Memoria was a collection of all memories of the world(s) memories, after all (Parentheses around that "s" because I'm not sure if Terra's memories were included in that as well or not). And that Final Boss did make quite a last statement if you know what I mean, haha .

Abso-freaking-lutely! Especially with the way different stages of boss fights worked in FF7R with the amazing cutscenes transitioning more strategic battles or stages in between each other. The final boss fight for FF6 is amazing as it already is, but it would be unreal if it were given that treatment!!!

I hope we’re looking at a full blown FVIII remake with an Octopath Traveler style FFVI remake by 2030. But I’m in no rush because by then I’ll be pretty old lol.

I’d love to see an FFIX remake, personally I’d like to see it stick more closely to the original than VII remake project and not release in multiple parts.
I heard in an interview a while back that someone at square (maybe Nomura) said they’d like to remake VI next, and I would have loved to see that.
If 6 gets remade, if you’re familiar with the plot as well as how many characters exist in the game, they would basically have to remake that game into two parts. If we get 6 remade instead of 9, I won’t be disappointed whatsoever 🤗

@@VlogHausOfficial Final Fantasy 7 Crisis Core came out around that time and so did a bunch of other spin-offs (July 2008). And FF13 came out in December 2009, so they were probably, unfortunately, focused on that
If they change up the battle system, it must use the FFVII remake's system as a base. That was such a perfect blend of turnbased and action.
Otherwise, just keep it a smooth command based style
I totally agree. FF7R should be the template for the battle systems of any other remakes. It’s perfect in my opinion
Nothing would make me happier than a remake of FFIX, it's always been my absolute favorite of the series
The age thing doesn't really seem like a concern, in my mind at least. I was 11 when the original 7 released, received it at Christmas in 97. If you've played it then it's overwhelmingly obvious that it's not a child friendly game. IX was a lot more tame with the language and subjects than VII as well, so I don't see it being an issue. I'd love to have a remaster or whatever you'd want to call it. As long as it stayed faithful to the original game and didn't try to play the "alternate reality" angle. VII is my favorite but IX is a close 2nd. We'll have to just wait and see (and hope😆) for something to happen. We'll always have the original games tho, so I'm more than happy with those and still find them extremely playable and enjoyable.

And you’re absolutely right. I think I played FF9 at either the age of 9-10. And yes, we have the originals to fall back on should potential remakes become total alternate reality dumpster fires (although I’m curious to see where this leads in FF7 Rebirth and I’m hoping it doesn’t turn into another unnecessarily complex Kingdom Hearts esque clone)

@@wizcatcheslightning Wow, I'm a little surprised you're attempting to have a civilized discussion with me. I'm so used to fan boys shouting me down. For that I'm going to subscribe. Now to answer your question, I tried 2 different difficulties on 2 separate play throughs, and could not finish either play through due to boredom and anger. First I made it about 10 hours in, the second I made it around 25 hours in before dropping it completely. To answer another question, I knew the game would be like it was when they announced they had split it up into 3 separate games (the second of which hasn't even come out yet 3 years later......) I wasn't expecting much freedom at all, and recognized the game for what it was which was souless AAA lipservice to those blinded by nostalgia. Still after listening to all the reviews and so many people rave over the game, I caved like an idiot, spent the money, and tried to play it (see above for how that went). Maybe it is just me, but I expect so much more from the grandfather of modern JRPGs. Games like the Witcher 3, Skyrim, Dragon Quest 11, Hell even Star Ocean, are packed full of great game design elements. It didn't have to be a sandbox environment like some of those, but I don't want the game to treat me like an idiot. It doesn't matter how much they dress up that alley with AAA graphics, I can still see its the same linear hallway I just went down 50 times. I've already gone on for to long and there is so much more I can say, but in summation, in my opinion, this was a slap in the face to the fans. Just enough was done to capture the nostalgia of the older crowd and blind them from reality, and the rest (AAA production) lured in the new crowed so they could make their money.

Having discussions like these allow me to get a better gauge on the community (especially because I don’t have the time to always share and discuss thoughts on social media). I think a lot of people share the sentiment of feeling resentful for what appears like a blatant cash grab. I would encourage you to check out the Action Button Review of FF7R in full (it’s 3 hrs long and took me like 3 days to rewatch, which I just did recently). I think a section of that review that you would appreciate significantly relates to the pacing of the game in respect to the mindset of its developers. If you start at like 1:16:00 in the video and listen for about 2-3 mins, I think you will benefit from that specific section 🤗

ff7 remake was announced in 2015, the PS3 video was simply a tech demo
I wonder how they will tackle the themes of genocide in this if the target audience for the anime is 8-13 year-olds. I'd rather the game not be watered down, and have a T rating at the very least.

I don't know. A lot of things can ruin something. Really important stuff, I suppose, like, an extreme change in the plot or in a character's personality. Something like that.

I agree! No voices. I loved it when a cutscene showed a story through a character's facial expressions and actions.
That and....I get really annoyed by the overuse of voices needing to make a sound for EVERY expression. "Tch, huh, ugh!"

I hope this is not true...ff9 is the best game ever made in my opinion a true masterpiece....I don't want today's square enix to touch it at all look what they did to ff7 remake I mean seriously they destroyed the essense of ff7 ....I don't want zidane going back in time to fight space monkeys on the moon in a alternate universe doing more combos than Dante.......now if they keep the same game but make it pretty with 60 fps I would pass out from excitement

Lots of comments about ff8r on this video and I don’t hate them. It makes sense for ff8 to be remade. There unfortunately just isn’t enough evidence supporting that outside of Kitase’s mysterious comment (considering he was the game director for that specific game) and the fact that there’s a literal gunblade in the Square Enix mocap room. If we get FF8R before FF9R, I won’t be disappointed
If they do remake it, I have only one suggestion. Could they make it a LITTLE easier to steal from bosses? Seriously, there's a joke that the Boss Theme is the "Couldn't Steal" Theme...
Idk if you ever tried playing the remastered version on a perfect run but let me tell ya, the ability to play in fast forward mode becomes an art and the soft reset becomes your friend. Great comment about stealing 🤣
IIRC, master thief changes the ultra rare odds from 1/256 to 1/16 (There are 4 tiers of theft from ultra rare to common. Each time you steal, you actually roll 4 times from most rare to least rare until something is either stolen or nothing is stolen).
I dunno if I want an FF9 Remake, having Time ghosts floating around prevent Zidane and Garnet from choosing a decision that doesn't fit with modern day Square Enix ideals will only enrage me.
I think FF7 is an amazing game, I wanted a remake back late on the ps2 and early on the ps3, it would have been amazing but they waited and waited until they could remake it in the worst way possible by creating NPC enemies that were there just to insult me wanting the game to remain true to its roots.
I Love FF9, it's one of my favorite games of all time and to see modern day Square Enix pull the same bullshit that they did with FF7 Remake would just make me angry.
The Ps4/Steam remaster versions are enough for me, the only fault FF9 ever had was that the battle system was too slow, having the game on Steam with the Moguri Mod fixes that problem.

I believe Kuja came from Chinese Hokkien koya 哥仔 meaning older brother, which makes more sense and closer to Japanese keishi. Meanwhile in the Philippines, it was transformed into kohya then to kuya on its modern form. Kuya can be written as Kuja if you spell it in Latin.

If there is a remake on the way, I don't think I would change much.
May be I would expand on things that felt a bit unfinished like more detailed continents outside of The Mist Continent.
Or like many may be thinking remaking Amarant's story line, since it is definitely the weakest and had a lot of potential.
I think FF9 already has a beautiful style and if they change that in favor of something similar to their recent mainline FF games I wouldn't like it.
Same goes to going full-throttle on modern anime styles, if it started looking too 'moe' it wouldn't be representative of its predecessor.

@@wizcatcheslightning There are lot of definitions of 'moe' but what is interpreted as such usually fits the description of huge eyes, slender bodies, colorful hair and very specific demeanor usually better seen on female characters.
Think Lucky Star, Suzumiya Haruhi, K-On, any female character from Sword Art Online.
As much as it pains me to admit it the new models for Fiora and Mellia in Xenoblade Chronicles for Switch fit a little bit in the description of 'moe'.
They at the limit though, there is a very delicate balance and the line keeps getting blurrier every time.
A lot of times 'moe' is associated with cuteness, but they are not necessarily the same thing.

I do recommend some extra research on the topic especially coming from Japanese creatives, most of them in the Manga and Anime industries.
One of the most outspoken ones is Hayao Miyazaki; the entry concerning 'moe' on TV Tropes summarizes his stance pretty well.

According to anecdotes I’ve been hearing from other content, it sounds like the game wasn’t nearly as popular when it first released. Seems like the fanbase has only grown over the years, which I don’t hate 🤗

i really hope a final fantasy 9 remake DOESNT happen.. but as you showed in this video, it does seem like its on its way. im beyond disappointed with what the ff7 compilation did to ff7's name, and so i would absolutely loathe for something similar like that to happen to ff9. though if theyre bringing original developers of 9 back, it may not be so bad.. but i worry that it wouldnt be able to hold itself up to ff9's standard if sakaguchi isnt there to direct them.
and also to paraphase a sakaguchi quote, another reason i wouldnt want a remake is bc id rather SE make something new and original rather than rehash something old. ff7's compilation was made in order to bring more money into the company, and i worry the same will happen if a ff9 remake occurs; it gets unnecessarily dragged out just to make money.
also, you couldve mentioned chocobo gp, which marketed itself rather heavily with ff9 elements.

I can admit that I am worried with Tetsuya Nomura at the helm (for reference, play all Kingdom Hearts games) but I am willing to purchase and play through Rebirth before choosing resentment or believing the game is now forever bastardized (not saying that you think this but several comments on this video give me that impression).
