All about riding and enjoying electric scooters.
Hi all. In 2021 I got into electric scooters both for commuting and leisure riding and since I already carry a camera with me all the time as a 'dash cam' I decided to upload some of my ride videos. That is at least how it started. :)
Since then I have also done scooter maintenance and repair videos, videos on useful scooter accessories and some scooter reviews. If you would like me to take a look at and maybe review your scooter or any scooter accessories feel free to reach out at Lantea13[at]outlook.com

What app is it
Bro i want to buy this can u show me details how to started how to break are this scooter has own app control system advance or direct start
How many miles the will run
Really useful video - love the detail. Great to see it handles the wet weather ok too. You wanted some photos of a production model - will try to PM you on Reddit in next day or two.
Good video. How many cycles do you expect the battery to get before needing to be replaced?
Thanks. Not sure how long it will last, but so far I have not noticed any decreased performance or range. From what I found you should get about 500 charge cycles before noticing any degradation. But it depends on a lot of external factors how the battery is used, stored, etc...
Freaking baby wipes! hahahahahahahahahahaahahhaahhahhahahhahhahhahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Don't forget to use baby oil! I understand you can't throw a garden hose of water directly on all parts. But, baby wipes. Really. They make automotive cleaning wipes - and you don't leave your poor scooter smelling like a baby's butt!
Why buy 'automotive cleaning wipes' that cost several times as much when these do just as good a job of cleaning the scooter?
That tire inflator kind of looks and sounds like a noisy MP3 player. - And you sure do have a lot of kitchen crap in your garage. I'd fill the tire FULL of slime, and never worry about air. But on a more serious note. Isn't it a bad idea to put a hub powered scooter in water? Next Act: Be the first scooter-powered Uber 'driver'.
"Isn't it a bad idea to put a hub powered scooter in water?" If you mean the green tray of water, it was only filled enough to submerge the tyre not the whole motor hub, so should be fine.
soldering?? hmm
Yes, I cut off the zoom brake wires and soldered julet connectors on the ends to connect the NUTT brake wires.
Thanks for sharing your video. I like your real-world take on your experience. You should consider replacing the rusted scews with A316 Stailess Steel screws. They are expensive but worth the cost in wet climates, like yours. Also consider spraying the bottom of your scooter and areas where there are gaps with a water displacer spray like WD40 (USA brand or equivalent) once a month or before a wet ride. I put black silicone gel in the gaps in the rubber cable gaskets. That sound coming from the rear wheel sounds like your wheel bearings in the wheel are wearing down. You should consider taking it apart and inspecting the bearings, if possible. If even a little worn, replace them with equivalent stainless steel bearings. The worn wheel bearing can fail and seize in your wheel and cause significant damage. NIU has a terrible parts availability, Where do you find parts for your NIU? I have a KQi3Max. Thanks and Safe Riding!
Thanks for the suggestions. For parts I check NIU partner website for EU niu.b2x.com/ or for US shop.besender.com/collections/niu-original-e-scooter-accessories If some parts are not listed you need to contact them. NIU is working to improve the after-sales servis, will share more when I get any updates.
@@Lantea13 Thanks for these liks. I hope to find what I need there, possibly. Safe riding
Do you know what brand are the cells?
Sorry, I don't. But I found this video a while back where you can see the cells and BMS ruclips.net/video/a3VOHHjGM0s/видео.html
@lantea Thank you for your honest feedback, I own a Niu 300x and it just to heavy to lug around NYC in the subway commuting to work. Since I bought the 300x I had issues with BT and unlocking it, literally a nightmare. I’ve figure a way around it for now but sending back for a refund so I can get the Air. Weight is a big decision for me since I live in an walk up apt. But safety is a big concern and knowing that it is UL certified is very important, to many fires with Chinese batteries gone wrong. One question, did you do anything extra for waterproofing? That is also an important factor. Thanks again
Hey, no I did not do any waterproofing, used it as it came out of the box. While I had no issues when it comes to water damage with the KQi Air or the KQi2, its still good to keep in mind that water damage is not covered by warranty, and a small risk is probably always there when it comes to water and electronics.
You have to take this scooter to a scooter dealer for the tune ups!!!
What tune ups, still runs great now at over 2500km :)
I need help what do I do I bought the scooter of my friend and haven’t got the paperwork but I know the social security number gets do u do to download and get the app workkong
Your friend needs to remove (unbind) the scooter from their NIU account in the app. That should allow you to link it to your NIU account. Did you try this?
I enjoy your vids, a lot of attention to small details! I bought a NIU kqui2(?), lots of fun to ride, the app, not so much. I pretty much like any kind of 2 wheels with or without motors. I like the carbon fiber idea and would really appreciate the lightness, just not sure about the 9 inch tires: not a lot of choice/availability. The no-hands stability seems very desirable and I'm curious how they accomplish that and why it's not a feature on all scooters. I'm currently shopping some sort of scooter with suspension, with lightness and small size being characteristics I'm interested in.
Thanks, always nice to hear that someone enjoys my videos. "The no-hands stability seems very desirable and I'm curious how they accomplish that" I think its a combination of several factors, - the light weight of the stem and handlebars makes it easier to balance the scooter as you don't have a heavy weight that swings from side to side when unsupported; - the deck is slightly concave, like on a skateboard, that allows you to better balance the scooter with your feet; - the overall low weight of the scooter makes it easier to balance with your feet; I think these features combined with a good geometry of the scooter contribute to the overall stability. I hope NIU continues with this approach with their future scooters, as I think good stability adds a lot to overall scooter safety, especially for new riders. "I'm currently shopping some sort of scooter with suspension, with lightness and small size being characteristics I'm interested in." For a smaller commuter scooter with full suspension, the first one I would consider is probably the Segway Max G2, I have not had a chance to test it myself, but from everything I have seen its a good option to consider. Unless you want to go with something more powerful with dual motors.
@@Lantea13 Thanks for writing back, the G2 is on my imaginary list of considerations, along with the Apollo go, and the highboy pro max, and a few others, have a great New Year!
@@miketayse Thanks. Happy New Year to you too.
Great video. I have done a thousand kilometers on it and I really love it despite the quirks as you say. The only faults I found are the same as yours. The dashboard froze two times in this year (quickly fixable), and the rear wheel makes the same weird noise. The app works horribly with kilometers and route registration but I just ignore it. Also, I have this problem that the horn sounds muffled with very little water on the ground. And with cold weather the battery drains really quick for me. Once it let me down with two bars in a 6 km trip to work. I had to drag the thing for the last kilometer. Luckily is very light. 😅 The rubber piece on my Niu is slit on the top. The shield pieces do not look any different however. I also broke mine but was able to repair it. They never offered me the part or really follow through with this problem although I contacted them. My screws on the front are not rusted at all, they maybe changed them. They haven’t got any parts for this scooter on sale as wheels or the shield and that is worrying. But I was able to repair a puncture with slime. Despite all this small things I really enjoy it and use it every week for my work commute.
Thanks, its good to have confirmation that I am not the only one that has come across some of the issues I raised :) I don't use the horn very often, but I did notice that in wet weather it is a bit useless. I would still prefer a normal bell (and I used one for some time on the scooter, had to remove it when using different camera mounts for filming due to limited space) as most people react to a bicycle bell sound but often don't react to an electronic horn. Over the past week we started to get some below zero temperatures in the morning and I did notice bigger battery drain as well, but so far it seemed mostly in line with other scooters in winter time. "The shield pieces do not look any different however. I also broke mine but was able to repair it. They never offered me the part or really follow through with this problem although I contacted them." IMO, it should be covered by warranty, but in my case they also classed it as out of warranty repair; and when I saw the shipping price, I decided its not worth it. Will probably glue it back together with JB weld at some point. I am hoping the spare parts (all parts, including controllers, motors, battery, etc.) get much wider availability from multiple sources and NIU works on this as their priority, because from reading various community posts, the easy availability of spare parts comes up often for NIU KQi scooters. I also raised this with NIU a few times. So hopefully it improves.
@ I regularly check on tires as it could be the most important part but they’ve never been available for me. Also, the postage os crazy! Another part is the charger. You can find KQi2 and 3 ones but never the Air, and they are not interchangeable. I hope they improve this too.
@@CarolaClavo For the parts not listed on NIU partner sites (niu.b2x.com/) or nearly always 'sold out' on the main NIU store (like the tyres and charger) you can try to contact the partner and they usually can get the parts for you even if not listed, might be worth a try. But probably best to get all the parts at once, until they find an economy shipping option, or wait until you really need the part and hopefully by then they will figure out better availability of parts through multiple sources.
@ I was able to contact them when I had the puncture, but shipping for a wheel was like triple the price so I declined and I’m routinely checking on their site and AliExpress or others. Never found any spare wheels or charger for the Air. There is a lot of room for improvement.
@@CarolaClavo Indeed, that is rough. They could start by at least selling the parts through Amazon and if needed increase their price by Amazon's cut, it would still be cheaper for the end user to use amazon free or cheaper shipping, even if the parts were 30% more (or whatever amazon's cut is).
My battery drains from 100% to 0% in just over a month or about 45 days. NIU tried to claim that this was normal, but it absolutely is not, EVER normal for any electric lithium-ion battery. I have several ebikes, electric scooters with Chinese made batteries and Korean LG , Samsung and Taiwan made Molicel battery packs with no such problems. The scooter is fantastic besides this problem. I have only charged it about 12 times now.
Fully draining in 45 days is definitely not ideal, especially if you don't ride all year round in all seasons. Unfortunately I can't really verify this as I have been using the KQi Air for commuting for most of the past year and the most it was idle was probably 2 weeks. I did notice that if you have your phone Bluetooth on and the scooter connects to it when you are around it drains the battery a bit more. If you are not going to use the scooter for longer periods, maybe unlink it in your BT settings on your phone, if you have BT on all the time, so it does not try to connect to the scooter constantly. This is something NIU should test and if the BT leads to more battery drain they should add a way to disable it in the app, or put the scooter into sleep/transport mode when not used for longer periods to conserve battery.
How's about the ranges?
You can check out couple of range test stats in my original written review www.reddit.com/r/ElectricScooters/comments/18ze27e/niu_kqi_air_review/ On average with my weight of around 95kg I got 25km, but it depends on a ton of other factors, like temperature, wind, terrain, riding style, etc.
Its between this and the apollo go for me . Tough choice . Same price
The Apollo Go is nearly double the weight, so if weight is not an issue for you that opens up the choices more. I don't have hands on with the Apollo Go, so can't really say how good it is.
@Lantea13 i keep forgetting that point . Lol .
great video, really helpful
Great tutorial!! Thank you!
Why does E save on my Scooter keep blinking, By any chance do you know and thank You.
You have Dynamic mode turned on in the NIU app.
@ I fixed The issue Thank You👍 Does Dynamic really make a Difference?
@@2krazzy579 Dynamic mode is mostly useful if you want to limit the speed of the scooter, for example if you want to give it to a child and limit the speed for safety, etc. or if you prefer different acceleration, that can be configured on some models;
Seems like a pretty bumpy ride .
Not really, its about the same as on the Ninebot Max G30 or the NIU KQi2 Pro. In some clips it might seem more bumpy than it actually is due to camera shake. Of course if you have bad roads a full suspension scooter like the Ninebot Max G2 might be better, but its also about twice the weight.
@Lantea13 its either this or the apollo go . Tough choice .
question: can this be applied to the kqi1 pro? cant find any videos on that specifically so wondering how similar the build for 1 to 2 is
I don't own a kqi1, but I say it should, it would be very similar for any tubeless scooter.
If the KQi1 Pro has tubeless tyres than its the same; but not sure whether the KQi1 does not have tubed ones.
Mate, that pump you have does it do Presta and shreder valves? Great vid
Check out the video on the pump here ruclips.net/video/jMJiDguvApQ/видео.html it should have all the details there.
My friend has this scooter and same thing happend. The screw in the middle of the stem fell out and she almost got really hurt. Im looking to find a replacement one to help her any idea the size or type?
By "screw in the middle" do you mean the big notched ring here ruclips.net/video/_Kl3aASwDZ8/видео.html if so, no sure where you can get that, probably only from NIU as a spare part.
@Lantea13 no I figured it out the screw snapped need to drill it out
It was the screw that sits behind the latch on the stem above what your talking about
So if you get a rear puncture, you basically have to go through all that removing griptape, etc, just to get the wheel off.
Pretty much, unless you can just patch it with a tubeless tyre plug kit. For that you don't need to remove the wheel or tyre.
I know it's an old video, but please, would you know anywhere I could get the replacement black display screen (it's cracked)? The display works fine it's just annoying the rest of Scooters Mint.
You can order a replacement display cover from NIU -> Spare Parts: EU niu.b2x.com/ or US shop.besender.com/store/
Great video!!!
Thanks.
I have questions
Feel free to ask :)
Hi how can i see my riding kilometers
You can see it in the NIU app on your phone.
Thank you. I appreciate your work.
One mistake you made spend the tire with the slime before you put the air in and after…. To make absolutely sure that it seals and coat the tire evenly.
As you can see here ruclips.net/video/NG3NLKQVSpw/видео.html I rotated the wheel so the puncture would be at the bottom so the slime pools over the punctured area and seals that area the best.
Do you have a description of what the controls on the scooter do? Pressing the start button x number of times does what? I do 2 for light on and off. Three goes from km to mph. What else? Thank you.
power on button: 1x change speed mode 2x main light on/off 4x change from km/h to mph 5x change to pedestrian mode Indicator light buttons: 2x both indicators come on
Very helpful video. Thank you.
Stoked to see this video. I just purchased the KQi3 Max and I'm stoked. I'll keep this video and Reddit post saved as good information. Thanks!
Do you know how to align the steering wheel with wheel? I can’t access the 2 bolts on the stem as the battery is in the way.
Are you referring to the NIU KQi2 Pro scooter or a different scooter model? On the KQi2 the battery should not be in the way.
niua kq100f why does the app not work for that
The app should work for the NIU KQi 100F, try to update the app, if you have an older version the model might not have been added yet. I don't have the NIU KQi 100F here so unfortunately can't test it further for you. If it still does not work after you check for the most recent app update, only option is to try and contact NIU support.
@Lantea13 I downloaded the app when I got the scooter and basically it says scan a QR code and when I scan the QR code it says not recognized
Check if you find other QR codes anywhere on the scooter or packaging, with the KQi Air there were several on the packaging and only one was the one needed to link the scooter.
Great stuff. Appreciate this :)
l I was just reading the manual that came with my KQi2 today and in the list of DO NOT DO THIS it said "DO NOT RIDE IN THE RAIN" LoL
Indeed, with all electric scooters riding in the rain is at your own risk, as any water damage is not covered by warranty. While there is always some risk, there are definitely scooters that can handle the rain and scooters that die just from a few drops of water, so videos like this give you a good idea of what the scooter can survive, but then its up to you if you are ok with a bit of risk of water damage. The bottom line is in many places if you use your scooter for every day commuting you can't avoid riding in rain at some point.
U are so professional 😮😮😮 otherwise sleepy
Unbelievable
Sleepy street
U didn't show model
Its in the video title NIU KQi2 Pro :)
Hey @Lantea because of you i buy the KQi2 Pro and i was very happy. Thank you so much. For real, i dont need one and its for me an expensive toy, but i enjoy it. At least cause i could find the US Software on reddit and could use the Halo light which is deactivated in Germany. I have buy now the KQi300p, but i think the Software for the KQi2 Pro will not work on the 300p. Do you have an idea, how I can get the Software for 300p, or activate the Halo light on a German scooter?
Hey, I have not seen any guides online how to make changes on the newer KQi300 scooters. Try to search in other EU languages using google translate, and maybe users from ES, FR, IT or other places posted something somewhere. Unfortunately I don't do firmware mods, so can't help you much on this. Just be careful because you will void your warranty if you change the firmware and something breaks.
I ordered now 😅😂
Hi. Hast du einen Conter übrig. Meiner ist kaputt. Mfg. Daniel
Sorry google translate did not do a great job translating 'Conter übrig' so not sure what you are referring to.
@Lantea13 Hello, I wanted to ask if you have a controller you can give me... Mine is broken. But I have since bought a new one and my scooter is working again. Thank you very much
Do you still have this scooter? Is it still in good condition?
Yes, I still have it and ride it; it still works without any issues, I am at around 2500km with it, would be more but I used the KQi Air a lot this year.
what tool did you use for the valve core remover? if you can, can you place a link
I used the Valve Core Removal Tool that was included with the Red Armor-Dilloz armor-dilloz.com/products/armor-dilloz-red-tire-sealant but you can use other versions just search for Valve Core Removal Tool on amazon or other shop.
Thankyou 🫡🫡🫡🫡🫡💯💯💯💯
How about should the tire pressure be?
45psi is good man max 50... check the tyres when u want those kind of info... i have 300+ klm inb my kqi2
I pump the KQi2 to 48psi. Anything between 45-50 should be good as @PortoFellazTV mentioned.
