  • First riding impressions and initial thoughts of the incredibly light NIU KQi Air electric kick scooter. For anyone wondering why I called this a 'Mini Review', its because for a full review I like to have at least 300km ridden on the scooter and also include several range tests, brake tests, and more extensive hill climb tests in the video. This was unfortunately not possible due to winter weather and I did not want to delay the video for weeks to complete the full testing and wanted to share my thoughts on the scooter so far based on my experience with it.
    There will definitely be a second part that will include all the additional testing and my further thoughts after riding the scooter even more. You can subscribe to my channel if you would like to know the second I post other videos on the NIU KQi Air.

    Honestly, this one is perfect for my use case. I live on 4th floor in a building without elevator and have my motorcycle (and usually also my car) parked in a garage that is 10 minutes walk from my apartment building. Was looking for a lightweight scoot I could carry up and down the stairs easily that would shorten my "travel time" to the garage. Guess I just found a winner. I live in the same city as you it seems. :) How was the shipping? Any issues with customs/import duties or do they ship from within EU?

    • @Lantea13
      @Lantea13  7 месяцев назад +2

      They ship from EU, mine came from Germany using DPD. Same as with the KQi2 before that. Shipping iirc took about a week from time I got the tracking number.

    I've enjoyed your channel, very informative. I ended up buying the NIU kqi 2 as a first scooter, partially on your reviews, so thanks! You pointed out that the Air was very stable. What do you think this can be attributed to? is the angle of the steering tube/neck of the NIU Air noticeably different than the KQi 2? Thanks again for all the information and the great channel!

    • @Lantea13
      @Lantea13  Месяц назад

      The angle is similar. I think the light weight of the scooter and especially the light stem/handlebars combined with the slightly concave deck design (similar to a skateboard) makes it easier to balance with your feet and thus making the scooter more stable overall.
      Thanks for watching, glad my videos helped you out.

    • @Lantea13
      @Lantea13  5 месяцев назад +1

      You could try and stick it with some tape on the inside of the stem when you have the handlebars off. Or possibly hide it under the deck, but I have not checked how easy that would be, might do so in a future video if there is interest in that.

    have you had any QA issues with your niu scooters? are they reliable??

    • @Lantea13
      @Lantea13  6 месяцев назад +1

      No QA issues with the NIU KQi Air. With the KQi2 I had a DOA unit that was quickly replaced (controller issue) and then I had to replace the throttle in the first 100km due to error03, got a replacement fairly quickly iirc, and the replacement process was simple enough, I made a video of it ruclips.net/video/6U0HE3f7d9M/видео.html
      In regard to the KQi2 keep in mind that these issues were early on when NIU was just starting with their kick scooters, the scooter has been solid since then, and now I have around 2400km on the KQi2. If you would like to get a better idea of the complete journey take a look at the review ruclips.net/video/LY3aw4w5XRo/видео.html and review update after 1000km ruclips.net/video/mMBRWRBgFOU/видео.html
      Overall I would say both NIU scooters I have been using are reliable. But to get the full picture its best to watch the review videos where I talk about all the pros and cons of the scooters :)

    I didn't understand the suspension you stated. Would a suspension be better for this scooter in next upgrades? and when do you think a new upgrade can come in this scooter?

    • @Lantea13
      @Lantea13  2 месяца назад

      Overall I don't think a suspension would be a good idea for an ultra-light scooter as it would add a ton of extra weight. NIU could make a carbon fiber scooter that is a bit heavier with suspension, but considering how much extra cost the carbon fiber frame adds to the scooter, there might not be a market for a scooter like that.
      The huge selling point and benefit of the KQi Air is the super light weight that makes it, in my opinion, the best commuter scooter on the market right now.
      As for future revisions of the scooter, considering the NIU KQi Air just launched few months back, and the KQi Air X has not even started shipping, I don't expect a new version any time soon.

      @@Lantea13 thanks. I think I will sacrifice all the great features of other scooters for weight. I came across another great scooter today whose parts come 99% from the Hamburg Germany where the company comes from. That’s a little expensive (scooter name is Egret One) but again it’s heavy around 22.1 kg. Plz take a look at this scooter. It’s a German scooter and is really great. Plz share your thoughts with me too.

    • @Lantea13
      @Lantea13  2 месяца назад

      @@wahidmardan Based on the specifications the Egret One scooter does look decent and has some nice features like a removable battery, quality Pirelli tyres, but it is quite heavy at 23.8kg and with all the weight does not include a suspension, at which point it might be worth considering the Segway Max G2 instead, which has a full suspension at 24.25 kg and is also quite a bit cheaper.
      Without having a chance to test ride the Egret One its hard to go beyond the specifications sheet, and many things like ride stability can't be judged without riding the scooter, and the bigger 11" tyres might be decent without the need for suspension, but that is again something that is impossible to judge without riding it. So if you are considering it try to find some objective reviews.

      @@Lantea13 thank you. I think I will go for Niu Air but someone from Germany elsewhere commented on my comment and said with quite confidence that he tried Air X and that is way way better than simple Air. He said he sold Air for X and there is a huge difference between the two in terms of performance.

    • @Lantea13
      @Lantea13  Месяц назад

      @@wahidmardan Based on NIU's website the performance should be identical, the only difference is in weight, considering the X is full carbon fibre.

    • @Lantea13
      @Lantea13  4 месяца назад +1

      So far I only had a chance to do the range tests in colder weather (its winter here) so that will affect the range. I got around 25-27km at my weight of around 95-100kg. In ideal weather and higher temperature I believe I could get at least 30km. I plan to do more range tests when the weather warms up. You can read more details of the range test plus a lot more in my full written review over at www.reddit.com/r/ElectricScooters/comments/18ze27e/niu_kqi_air_review/

    How has it been so far?

    • @Lantea13
      @Lantea13  2 месяца назад

      I now have nearly 1000km on the KQi Air and apart from some software bugs (e.g. ride and distance tracking), its one of the best commuter scooters and the one I would get if I was buying a commuter scooter.
      Its super light so its easy to handle, carry up stairs, lift into a car trunk, etc. The scooter is also very stable and handles really well. It has enough power to go up most hills in an average city, with snappy acceleration and enough speed for a safe commute on bike paths. The pneumatic tubeless tyres can handle some uneven terrain, but its not for off-roading. It also has good water resistance and I had no issues so far riding in rain and snow.

      @Lantea13  5 месяцев назад +1

      No, the NIU KQi Air does not have a suspension. I think that is a good thing if you want the scooter to be as light as possible, since a good suspension would add a ton of weight to the scooter.
      If you want suspension check out the NIU KQi 300, or the Ninebot Max G2.

      @@robo1989 The ride is ok even on the side of roads, but of course it depends on how well maintained those roads are, if you have big pot holes and cracks in the road it will be a rough ride. The comfort is in line with other scooters with similar tyres such as the Ninebot Max G30 or the NIU KQi2 Pro.

I opened a RMA on the niu portal and they refused to fix it under warranty because "they finished the spare parts". They are really sucks, lucky me I bought the scooter on Amazon and I can send it back. Is not a case Amazon banned it from them website.
