    I can't thank you enough for this video. For many weeks now I have been trying to find a leak in my pool. It only leaked after someone used the steps. I finally narrowed it down to the steps. They flexed whenever anyone used them. I will be out this weekend drilling holes and shooting in spray foam. I am sure it will save me thousands of dollars. I also have a long crack (one meter) on the top step. I think I will drill holes along the crack to relive the pressure from the foam pushing up so it doesn't deform the step.

    • @RegsChannel

      @@kathleenheckman8397 you are most welcome! I hope the video helps! The process was very straightforward. If it makes you feel better I too was getting water loss from a combination of the stairs and skimmer (I've done a video on that as well) personally I didn't notice any deflection in my top step but it wouldn't hurt to drill some relief holes depending on the type of foam you use. Good luck with the repair and keep us posted on your progress!

    • @RegsChannel
      @RegsChannel 5 дней назад

      Hi there. It took a few weeks to dry the cores out, I did it inside my house. Anything that promotes evaporation is your friend in this situation. Airflow, heat, a dehumidifier or dessicant packs will all help with the process. Remember it takes the cover weeks to months to accumulate that moisture so it takes time to pull it out!

    • @RegsChannel
      @RegsChannel 7 дней назад

      Hi Linda! Thanks for the comment. Option one would be to tape off the area, sand the area down, and re gel coat it with a white tint to match. This is time consuming and needs so e artistic flair to make it look good. My plan on the other hand is to find a white epoxy coating with some grip or traction in it and literally just paint it on. Keep us posted on the repair, thanks for sharing!

    • @RegsChannel
      @RegsChannel 10 дней назад

      My gut says do the spray foam first. If you are using a lower expansion foam it's going to take the path of least resistance and if it's pushing up against the fiberglass I bet there is enough rigidity there to hold the shape. Once you get the foam in and it's solid then I would just the epoxy or an actual fiberglass patch. You got this!!! Let us know how you make out with the repair!

    MEK is the primary ingredient of PVC cement which actually welds the PVC together by dissolving some of it. I’m not a chemist but mixing PVC cement with the ABS pellets may work as well. However, what ever is used a respirator is essential. MEK will get you higher than a kite.

  • @petenelson7291

    What is the working time once it's mixed, before it starts hardening or thickening? Can you add more MEK to thin it out if it starts thickening too quickly? Once the repair is complete how long does it take to fully cure? Thanks for doing this, it looks like it will be very helpful!

    • @RegsChannel
      @RegsChannel 14 дней назад

      Hey there! You can play with the viscosity by adding either MEK or more pellets. I aimed for a white glue like consistency. If I recall correctly I had about a 10 min or so working time with it and I gave it over a day to cure to be safe. It was rock hard once I was done and it has held up well so far! Hope that helps!

    Thank you so much for such a well explained and filmed DIY video on fixing my skimmer! The only thing that was missing was the drying time, although I assume that's on the MEK? I’m a DIYer and while I was watching the video I am wondering, why not fill the void with something non porous? With spray foam, as you step on it, the foam will be compressed down more and more, and the void will return. Why not fill the void with a self-leveling epoxy cement patch? It would hopefully bond to the cement underneath and prevent you from having to do this again in a year or two. I know it’s more expensive, but it might be a better long term option. Please correct me if there are issues I am not seeing with this.

    • @RegsChannel
      @RegsChannel 23 дня назад

      The challenge is there is no cement under those fiberglass stairs it's mostly sand,maybe a touch of aggregate. Closed cell foam is used now to level concrete so I figured I would be good with it in this application, but I get what you are saying, there is no "rebound" to the foam... I'll monitor them over time, but I'm not exaggerating when I say they are rock solid! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment, means a ton to me!

      Hi there, you can use either the existing cover shell or a tarp. Just remember you won't get the same level of thermal insulation and the tub will run more. Could also be a good time to shit the tub down for a water change or any other preventative maintenance you may need to carry out. Hope that helps!

    Nice stuff man, this looks heavy duty to do. How did you decide you need to run this across the entire perimeter of the pool vs a small area? Is it best practice to check the entire perimeter?

      @RegsChannel Месяц назад

      Hey there! Thanks for the kind words! For me, I had a visible slope on each side of the pool deck, if you check out my OG video in the series I had leveled the opposite side that was way worse a few years earlier. For sure check the entire perimeter. Remember a bit of a slope is ok, but if it's like 4+ inches over 2 feet of pool deck that's too much! LMK if you need any advice along the way.

    I have a large hot tub. It is a 3 piece two fold unit. The middle foam broke during a heavy snow storm and I need to replace the inner foam. Any recs?? Thank you!

    • @RegsChannel
      @RegsChannel 2 месяца назад

      If you can find closed cell foam board at the hardware store that's your best bet as it should stand up to water much better than an open cell. Regardless if it's open or closed cell I would wrap and tape it as I showed in the video and you should be back in business! Hope that helps!

      @@RegsChannel Thanks. I need to reinforce it somehow in the middle with some aluminum or steel so it doesn't sag again and snap.

    What did you use for a cover while you waited for the waterlogged cover to dry out?

    • @RegsChannel
      @RegsChannel 2 месяца назад

      Thanks for the comment! You could either tarp it or use the existing cover without the cores to keep debris out of the tub. If doing this, just remember there is no thermal barrier when doing this so the tub will run more than normal if you do this. I did mine in the summer and we set records for heat lol! Just something to keep in mind.

      Dude you can see me emptying the bagger into the yard waste bag. I pulled one full bag out and the bagger was stuffed after the second round... Not sure how that makes the video clickbait, but to each their own I guess.

      Hey there! Best of luck on the repair! Actually it's been almost 2 years this summer and it has held up quite well. I can feel it is getting a bit heavier, but my exterior cover is also showing its age, but overall it was worth the effort in my opinion!

    Thank you for your recommendation. Purchased all the necessary equipment and solutions and it worked incredibly, MEk from West Marine and ABS Non-biodegradable BB's. The breakdown process took approximately 15 minutes. Applied and allowed it to dry for 3 days just to ensure dryness. Pool is up and running, water level holding steady. Thank you.

    • @RegsChannel
      @RegsChannel 2 месяца назад

      Hey there! Yes, it has held up quite well so far! The initial plan was to try and get at least 1 year out of the fix, and I'm actually closer to 2 years on it so far! Being able to get another 1-2+ years out of the cover for like 30$ worth of materials and minimal effort seems well worth it to us! Once the vapor barrier breaks down again, we will then be at the crossroads of either a new cover, or attempting a repair, however my cover is currently going on almost 9 years already. Hope that helps!
