  • Hey Everyone! Welcome back to our RUclips channel. In this video, we will be comparing not only battery-powered chainsaws from DeWalt and Stihl against traditional gas-powered chainsaws from Poulan, but we will also look at if you could get by with just a Ridgid reciprocating saw with a pruning blade.
Check out the video to see which chainsaw is the best. Can a reciprocating saw replace a chainsaw? Considering making the switch from gas powered equipment to battery? This video will help you to make a more informed buying decision.
In this video we will compare the following:
    DeWalt DCCS 620
    Poulin 2150
    Stihl MSA 140C
    RIDGID Reciprocating Saw
    The results may surprise you!

If you put a pruning blade on the sawzall, it'll cut much faster than with the blade you had on it (looks like a demo-type blade used for both wood and metal). It's surprising how fast it'll cut with the right pruning blade. A chainsaw is still ideal, but I've used that same Ridgid sawzall to take a wooden fence down as well as a few ~8" trees (It beat starting a gas saw up repeatedly or being concerned about an expensive chain if I hit metal).

Thanks for the comments! I did that to take down an old cedar in my front yard and I agree it worked surprisingly well! Also I agree blade changes were a breeze and if I contacted the ground it wasn't game over!

Dude! that chain on the old Poulan was beyond DULL! Sure ya didn't have it on backwards lol ! Anyway I hear what you're sayin' so unless you're cuttin' firewood for the winter the Stihl is the best option for you.

Lol! It may have had a run in with the ground a time or two working on stumps. I acknowledge that with a new/sharp chain it's performance would have been top notch. Usability on the other hand becomes an issue. The cordless options are far lighter, much quieter, and are an order of magnitude easier to maintain due to the lack of an actual engine. It all comes back to what the end user needs to get done. Thanks again for the comments! Much appreciated!

Great comparison! Hey, I've been looking to get into an ebike for my commute to and from work (~10kms round trip). I'm looking at the Costco bike... Any suggestions or other options out there to consider?

Hey there! I'm not too sure where you are located, but with the price of fuel here in Canada lately I have been taking a hard look at e bikes over the past few months and would love to cover them on the channel! A few things to be mindful of would be battery voltage, motor wattage, and the controller system used in general. (Very similar for most battery powered equipment) Your "standard" e bike systems are typically 36 volts, w/a 250-300 watt motor. However, you can scale all the way up to 48, 52, or 60+ volt systems and motors up to 1000 watts in either a front or rear hub, or mid drive configuration. Ultimately, you need to ask yourself what can you afford, and do you plan to use it year round? Another thing to be mindful of is that at least here where I am located, regardless of motor or voltage size most e bikes are governed at 32 km/hr. (These can usually be bypassed at your own risk!) Hopefully that helps you narrow down the options a bit. I've seen units at Walmart start at 850$ and then some at higher end bike shops selling for over 6000$ it's going to come down to your budget and use case. I'm actively working on trying to get some models for review so hopefully that can help your purchasing decisions!

I'm sure you are right, the point was to emphasise that you can make due with what you have for the cost of a blade if you are in a pinch!

Oh man had to stop watching as soon as I saw the gas chainsaw struggle pathetically to get through a 4x4… does he not know how to sharpen or file the chain? Is that saw used to cut rocks in half? Any fair or accurate comparisons are gone out the window at this point 🤦🏻‍♂️
