No. I think she would have stayed until he left her. She thought Mike was the best she could have as a spouse. People take a lot of abuse when they think they can't do any better.
Nope, she was to blind even when stuff was staring her in the face. Either he would of her left her first or she would of realize WAAAAAAY later down the line
With how this came out she works at least have separated for a few days and any pittance of a gesture from Mike would have had her back living in Delulu land pretending he was changed and faithful
I've always felt that Sheila started turning to food for comfort as Mike became more verbally and emotionally abusive. It was revealed in the sequel that Mike had also been physically abusive to her during their marriage. I believe the more unhappy she became in the marriage, the more she ate, and the more weight she gained. Mike talked about her weight, which made Sheila feel even worse about herself, so she ate more and gained even more weight; vicious cycle.
I agree about the food for comfort. She turned to food the way that some people might turn to drugs or alcohol... The worse things got, the more she gained.
Yeah I totally agree with you about sheila like her sheila I turned to food for comfort after being sexually abused as a child I stopped doing that when I was a teenager
It is really sad because it was depression and low self esteem with Sheila ; then weight gain and weight loss depends on multiple factors. Genetics, metabolism, and will power which is different for everyone.
I absolutely agree. She turned to food and Trina for comfort and support from her troubled marriage. She was probably grazing while preparing Mike's meals.
THANK YOU!!! I know Angela is the wild friend but she was closest to the reaction I would have. We are not moving forward until you tell me where MY friend is. And lowkey you may earn a pop in the mouth being so relaxed about making my friend drive.
The abuse has always been present from Mike and it just progressed over the years. In the second movie Mike tries to temperature check Sheila and tries to bring up a memory. She says "Yeah I remember the tile I had to wash my blood off of it."
BIG AS I AM…When thinking about the dinner scene, I think the friend that spilled the beans was a true friend. Every time she tried to tell Sheila she was stopped by the other “friends”. But at the dinner table she had the liquid courage, inhibitions down, I’m putting it out there. I hate when people keep secrets trying to “protect” the other person. Let them know considerately and respectfully, especially under those circumstances. Janet “the doctor” had poor judgement and should have been focusing on her falling a part marriage instead of trying to be the perfect couple and expert….nonetheless, I can’t wait for part 2🎉🎉🎉
@@katiepop3442 it’s not what you say but how you say it. When delivering with love and non judgement, it is rarely taking offensively. I would not sit there while my friend is getting emotionally abused and cheated on in front of everyone including her, and not have a heart to heart with her. How people take the truth is really not my problem, but if I’m a friend I will tell the truth. In fact, that’s how you determine who is really there for you. Someone that is brave enough to be honest with you because they love you. But to each its own…
I think Sherriff Troy had to feel like SOMETHING was off, especially when he asked why Sheila was literally coming up on the rough side of the mountain, going to a couples retreat by herself.🙄
@@babyfaceweeb8937 When she was wit Mike, he would constantly make fun of her weight & talk down on her like she was an animal. Troy treated her right like how a real husband is supposed to.
Trina is playing both sides. She has to keep Sheila's marriage somewhat intact in order to maintain her perks as a side chick. Side chicks don't want to be the wife. They they get to deal with the side of the husband who is escaping the demands of his regular life. He is fun with the side chick. He is laughing and generous and romantic. The wife is boring and tired and probably out of shape, especially if she has bore him children. He is escaping that. Side chick has the fun. Trina is genuinely helping her keep her marriage however she can so she can continue to have the fun without the obligations of a wife.
I'm not convinced that Trina didn't want to be the wife. While there are some side chicks who don't want to be the wife (or the main), I believe that many of them do. Now if the side chick just wants to have fun with someone's husband, that's on them. However, if they are hoping the man will leave his wife (or main) they are generally setting themselves up for failure. Statistics are not in their favor.
I definitely agree with you. Trina never gave replacement energy, but more of “I’m here for a good time not a long time”. She was also socially aware of her presence and often came off as perky then uncomfortable when the crossroads were near. She could have arrogantly aired her position out or outright left depending on what she wanted out of this but she knew the name of the game was to “keep Mike where he’s at”. Looking at the movie again, I think her agreement to come was pressured but she wouldn’t have if it was her inviting herself out of spite. Not only did Mike put the heat on, but Shelia was so out of touch she (I think knowingly)pressured Trina to attend as a means to get Mike on board. Trina had her moments of trying to correct him and salvage that marriage, but it was too far gone. Shelia couldn’t see past the broken rose colored glasses- Shelia knew what she saw was exactly what it was yet she still clung to false hope built in her mind
What really ticked me off about this movie watching it more as I got older is that the other husbands never called Mike out on his BS. Like fully called him out. They casually laugh with him as though the ish he was doing and saying to Sheila was ok. They don't discuss what they know about Mike messing around with Trina to their wives they just let the shit escalate to what happened at dinner.
Man Sheila cracking Mike in his head was DELICIOUS! It gave me goosebumps, made me cheer, and brought tears of joy to my eyes. That bottle was mostly empty and that swing came from the ancestors. I think Sheila convinced herself that there was nothing. Sheila has had lifelong self esteem issues and Mike just perpetrated this more and more and more and made it worse. This would have happened between them eventually. And I agree Sheila and Trina would have been sister wives. She was just that broken down by him.
Mike got his Karma because Sheila found happiness with Troy after the divorce, then Mike complains that Trina don't cook or clean but spend his money. KARMA!!
@@marvelousmel7879 Mike knew he used money to attract and keep Trina. And later on he belittled Troy's salary as a sheriff in front of Trina (despite Troy owning a lot property like the big house in which they were staying). But then wonders why all Trina does is spend his money...well duh!
@@HeitCheri absolutely but the second movie sheds light to me that Mike kinda gets a pass as “Mike is just mike” which allows him to get away with such things within the group
@@HeitCheriNope, because he comes back in the sequel and they still hang out with him. After they way he dogged and humiliated Sheila and exposed everything secrets, we could NEVER be friends again.
Trina was trying to embarrass her knowing Mike wouldn’t like outfit on her body size because he clearly hates that she’s big so no sexy outfit would change that, Trina was evil.
I saw this movie years ago and the first time I realized, Sheila probably found comfort in her friend going because of how mean her husband is. I think that partially kept her character distracted from what was actually going on :(
I always got a vibe that Sheila was a bit isolated from the other girls. It's not uncommon in abusive relationships for the victim to be isolated. Which you could argue Mike was just shitty not abusive, but personally I think he was emotionally abusive. Later in the movie, the women don't seem overly concerned that they haven't heard from Sheila in a long time. They don't even know where she was staying. If my friend went through a gutting divorce, I'd be hovering trying to see if they're okay but they just seem a little concerned. If she was isolated from them, that might be why she clung onto Trina so much. Mike would probably let them be closer because he wants Trina close. It could also explain why the women seemed hesitant to tell Sheila about Mike cheating. It could push her further away depending on her reaction.
He probably did isolate her because she said she grew up in Detroit and they both lived in Missouri now (just a thought) he was also financially and physically abusive.
Shelia drove from Atlanta to Colorado, which is like a 21 hr and 48 minute drive. Angela was from Camden, New Jersey. She mentioned it in the movie. She always say, "Y'all know I'm from Camden." She was definitely from the hood. Fun fact: the actress Tasha Smith is actually from Camden, New Jersey.
I don't even think that Sheila was the one who initially invited Trina. From her personality I believe that Mike put it into her head to have Trina there because he wanted his extra booty to be close and Sheila was just trying to please him.
I don't even know, because Sheila's head was so twisted. The way she defended Trina to Angela and they way she was set on trying to find a man for Trina, Sheila just might have invited her....
I think Sheila did invite her but was manipulated to do so. Sheila probably spends more time with Trina than these other women because Trina doesn't seem to have a job or other life responsibilities. Sheila seems to confide in her more, which ultimately leads to Trina using that information against her. She seems to listen to Trina's advice more, which is given to sabotage Sheila. I genuinely think Sheila invited her there for support because of Mike's verbal abuse. But I definitely could see Mike putting the idea in her head.
He has not play sympathetic characters. He's such a great actor that I cannot imagine him as a minister. 🤣 I'm gonna have to look him up now. Thanks for the info!
That’s so mindblowing! 😮 then again, it seems to be a trend with the majority actors who play a lot of villain characters - they tend to be kind and generous people IRL
She really did convince herself but at the end, she got the last laugh cuz Troy accepted her for who she was as a person. Which is why Troy & Sheila's marriage worked out a little better.
I think mike confessing is very in character to his personality. Because he told his guy friends what was doing with Trina, but after his 'secret" is out he used other people's problems because he's a snake and uses your secrets against them!
Trina is not the type of side chick who wants to take another woman’s place, like Savannah. Trina is the type who wants to enjoy a man without having to deal with the “realness” of him (cook his meals, wash his drawls, etc.). Mike seems like the type who pays bills and buys gifts. Trina is in furs the whole movie while Sheila is dressed like a midday Walmart shopper. Either Trina genuinely liked Sheila as a friend and wanted to help her marriage, or she flat out didn’t care and was going through the motions. But I don’t think she was actively trying to sabotage Sheila and Mike, because Mike is a terrible guy and she didn’t really want him like that.
@@HeitCheri He was probably breaking her off with gifts and money. You see they don’t stay together in the sequel. She probably had the AUDACITY to gain a pound or 2, and Mike ended the illusion and started treating her the way he treated his ex.
Him telling the others secrets was pretty low..but in a way good because it made everyone address their underlying issues in there relationships especially Terry and his wife
Unfortunately sometimes when you are in love the red flags are there & you want it to work so badly that you believe what you want to believe.. It happened to me before
The play gives more gives more context of Sheila and Mike's story. Sheila kept the books for his company as well as taking care of their children. The stress of it all made her gain weight.
@@msbrit5178 naw she didn't have kids in the movie..in the play Sheila was the main character so there was more context regarding her story... Originally Why did I get married was written for Kelly Price and the play was centered around Kelly's songs...but as we can see in the movie..Marcus and Angela and Gavin and Patricia characters were added in the movie so now with more couples they had to shorten their story.....I believe sheila still kept the books tho.. Kelly Price was amazing as Sheila especially when she came in and did her big reveal💓💓💓💓💓💓
I feel like Sheila thought no one else would love her except Mike. She probably thought if my own husband finds me disgusting and fat then how could anyone else see me as beautiful.
BIG AS I AM, that dinner scene is one of the best scenes in a film lol and she was never gonna leave! She didn’t think she could find any better. Sheila’s character was insecure, had low self esteem and had no confidence
I think Trina purposely stayed with the men because she would get the least resistance from them. The men all seemed to know something was up but no scene showed them questioning her. When she was around the women they all seemed to question her or look at her a way because they too knew something was up. Trina knew she was wrong and didn’t want to face the women who would hold her accountable.
Women also have a tendency to insert ourselves into a situation aka "what i would do" instead of "what you would do". So Patricia and Diane probably couldnt fathom their husbands cheating, so therefore didnt tell Sheila. Meanwhile Angela has experienced this situation and probably thought that someone shouldve had told her Marcus was cheating on her.
What Angela did by not telling Marcus about the STD, was actually quite clever! Mean and sneaky… lol “YOU SO DAMN EVIL!” 😂😂😂 but she knew he was cheating so she went to go cheat but she couldn’t prove Marcus was cheating and this was the only way she could prove it.
@@HeitCheri No! He played HIMSELF! Sleeping around! Mmmm.. nope!!! That’s why he was saying, she hadn’t been asking for it.. 🙄🙄🙄.. why do you think?? He thought he was in the clear! But she knew!! Do you really think Angela would have cheated if she didn’t know for a fact he was playing her! Come on! Y’all gotta be smarter than this!! Angela is MEGA SPITEFUL! And to defend Marcus.. 🤮😔🥴🥴
@@HeitCheri question if the Marcus wearing condoms in first place. Marcus wouldn't have be worry in the first place. So who playing with health of the partner first?.
Who's playing with whose health first does not justify knowingly having a disease and passing it to someone else and not telling them. That logic is real off. It ain't cute and it ain't clever.
I love when you guys do these in depth reviews!! My biggest gripe in this movie was probably Trina’s audacity to agree to show up at this married couples retreat, while she is willingly having an affair with her so-called friends husband! And she had the nerve to get mad when ever Angela questioned her! Like what type of treatment did you honestly expect??? And from a group of black women?? As trifling as it is, I felt like she needed to know her place as a side chick, and stay in the background! Had the nerve to go shopping with them, and pick out an outfit for Sheila, as if she actually cared about her! Made me sooooo mad! I have a friend that was having an affair with a married man, the man suddenly died, and she went to the funeral, and I told her how that was wrong! Like stay in your place!
I feel like tge reason Trina didn't want to spend time with the ladies was she knew she would have been questioned and ultimately found out to be Mike's mistress. I also think the other reason she didn't want to go to the kitchen and help cook was foreshadowing of her character. She wasn't dishonest with Mike (this does not include Sheila or the other characters) about who she was. She doesn't cook or clean, but she does like looking pretty. These were all things that he complains about at the end of the movie. By no means am I defending her because she is dishonest and lacks integrity and remorse but I think it does say more about Mike's character that he didn't notice these personality traits.
Perhaps. I think it would have taken a long while before that occurred. Like the dinner scene showed, something humongous had to come about to even get her to consider leaving him.
Honestly you would be surprised how many men are like Mike. I think this younger generation get surprised because now we have social media and things are in movies and being talked about openly where in the past everything was done in secret. I remember as a child going with my uncle to his "special friends" house and she later moved into his basement apt while he and his wife lived in the house. Or being around my God father and his 2nd family that EVERYONE knew about but didn't talk about. So the Mike's of the world aren't new or rare their visibly and boldness is new, what little respect that was there in the past is gone today. For example a friend of my mother was and still is in her 70s a side chick to this married man. The man's wife got cancer and so did the side chick and he took care of both of them without allowing them to overlap so they could all play ignorant to the situation and be their version of happy.
Sheila still looked beautiful to me She was sweet, kind, and helpful. I felt sad that she didn't have her own savings to not be dependent of that horrible man!
I really think Sheila needed better friends. I was under the impression that they aren't in each others lives much outside of the retreat, just the occasional moments that they meet up to talk about issues with maybe patricia. I also got the feeling that they seem to be way more friendly with Mike than they are with sheila. Maybe it's because Sheila is "just a housewife", whereas everyone else has careers in some way. Mike is openly disrespectful and crass. None of the other wives really do much to defend Sheila except for a few very weak moments where they checking on her. Yes, Angela did want to tell her, but it seemed to be more out of anger/dislike for Mike than genuine concern. For Sheila. I got the feeling that the reason why he was able to be so awful and she stuck around was because he was her only real support in her life. If she had real friends with her on a regular basis who spent time with her, supported her as an individual, I think her confidence would have grown. Not even coming at Mike, but just proving to her that she's interesting, smart, and enjoyable to be around as a singular person. Not just as Mike's wife. It's said that they all met in college. So from that, i'd gather that Sheila was also a student at some point.
No, Angela was really Shelia's friend. Her bussing out Mike had nothing to do with her anger towards him. She didn't like Mike becuase of the way he treated Shelia. If my friend's husband treated her that way I wouldn't like him either.
Sheila was not aware. I think when she was stunned, she was just adding the pieces together and feeling dumb. Sheila was never going to leave. Mike wasn't going to divorce her either because he enjoyed the admiration from Sheila, the cooking and cleaning, etc.
I am still on the fence about whether Mike would have left Sheila if the secret hadn't been exposed. I think part of his actions were to save face and put on a show.
If people only look at the interaction between Shelia, Mike, and Trina as an isolated event, then Shelia's reactions can seem weird. But, when you realize she has been systematically broken down by Mike (even without the knowledge of the sequel, it's obvious he has been at least verbally and emotionally abusive for a while in the first scene). In that case, her reactions are entirely understandable because she only really showed hurt and embarrassment from how Mike treated her, but never any anger or confusion on why he spoke to her like that. And it is clear he controls all the finances too, so her mind is probably stuck on pleasing him and making him happy because she "doesn't do anything," so her smiling everything off and calling and leaving pleasant voicemails fits with an abused spouse.
I’m enjoying these episodes… please do Madeas Family Reunion (Especially Lynn Whitfield’s daughters relationships with their men and their mother) once you’re done with this series ❤️🙏🏽
I believe that Sheila didn’t know about Trina and Mike, but I think she had a belief that he was stepping out. I also believe Sheila was in denial, and was accepting of the mistreatment because maybe she thought she wouldn’t find someone else after Mike. She was self deprecating, because that’s all she was hearing from Mike, that’s what she was used to. I mean… “As big as I am?” 🤣 Thank y’all for this analysis!
I believe she drove from Atlanta, Georgia since most of Tyler’s movies take place somewhere in Georgia ; plus in the second part, if you look at Terry & Diane’s car tags it’s says ‘Fulton County’ which is located in Georgia
1:31:02 HELL YEAH TRICKA was setting her up. She set Sheila up to be tried like a freak at a cut party 🤦🏿♀️🤦🏿♀️🤦🏿♀️! She knew Mike was going to have their reaction especially when it came to her weight. Mike publicly shamed Sheila and then I'm pretty sure behind-the-scenes he was talking shit about Sheila to Trina about her weight.
I think Shela is trying hard to keep the perfect marriage because she does love him, but she wants to be in denial and tries to blame herself to make him happy.
Guys she was flying from Atlanta. I just googled the drive is roughly 22hrs. Thats how long she drove. Its revealed they all lived in ATL in Why did i get married too? Because Sheila and the Sherrif moved to ATL and they argued about it when Troy said he didnt want to move there but Sheila said that's where her friends and family are.
So why did she go through Missouri, Kansas, and Colorado? Sheila said she was from Detroit in this movie. These could be plot holes... You know how Tyler Perry does 😆
She was from the D but in or after college they all resided in the A so it’s unrealistic AF for us to believe Shelia drove dam near a day🙄🥴🤷🏾♀️😂😂 she got there way too quickly and should have been really arriving when they were eating breakfast, not already been there and stuck but Tyler won’t let nobody help him write soooooo😂😂😂😂😂
They weren't trying to hide the affair. Mike was too comfortable speaking negatively about Shelia in front of Trina and she clearly found some of it amusing. Neither one of them were worried about her. Then he goes into full possessive mode when Troy comes along. No man is that possessive over a woman unless he's with or wants her.
I think Trina probably genuinely liked Sheila as a friend. But as their friendship started to blossom Trina probably started coming around d Sheila and Mike and probably looked at Mike as a goldmine. She was probably thinking how did Sheila snag Mike. She (Trina) most likely thought it would be a quick couple dollars she could get from Mike, but she probably got in too deep
I definitely concur bc at the end of the movie, at Janet’s event, she shows up with mike and he tries to kiss her and she says no bc of her lipstick and when she leaves he tells the boys how she’s been running through his credit cards, shopping, won’t cook or clean and that made him kinda think about Shelia🥴🤷🏾♀️😂😂😂
@@HeitCheri ABSOLUTELY 💯 👌🏾🤷🏾♀️😂😂 I remember spitting out my Pop when I first saw the movie bc it’s hilarious how his karma was already spinning the block and he just didn’t know it yet 🥴😳🫠😂😂😂😂 in the Second movie I would have liked to know where was their situationShip at and even if they were still together 🤷🏾♀️😂😂 did she max out the cards, was she on to the next 💰, I mean Man, etc etc 🤭🫣😂😂😂
Angela was a whole chemist, who developed her own hair products because she could not find a job. if anything, she more smart than most of those women.
She may have been smarter than them all. That wouldn't surprise me. I don't think anyone said that Angela wasn't smart. In fact, I don't think we made any comments about her intelligence at all.
I feel like Sheila was a very “you can’t tell me nothing about my man” type and that paired with how often the other women called Angie crazy is what stopped her from telling Sheila right away
Funny sidenote, the flight attendant that suggests Sheila buy 2 plane tickets is the same flight attendant from “Last Holiday”. I guess he plays the role of snarky flight attendant well lol smh 😂
Sheila and Mike's marriage is similar to Bernie and her husband (i keep wanting to call him uncle miles but that's from soul food lol) marriage. The problems have clearly been there for a long time if not possibly early on in the relationship, and it's (in this case) the woman putting up blinders thinking if they change the man will see them differently. When in reality, they haven't been looking at you the whole time. They're just looking for the easy out; in Mike's case, it's Sheila's weight (at the very least) and in bernie's husband, it's her blackness. I feel like Sheila was always a bigger woman but once a thinner woman gave Mike attention, now Sheila's weight is a bigger problem than before. So it wouldn't matter what Sheila (or Bernie) did, the marriage was doomed because of the husband's selfishness.
@@HeitCherithank you! It really just seems like that's Sheila's motivation for working on her marriage at this point, more of desperation than romantic love. The huge red flags are right in her face and I think deep down she knows, but she feels it's her fault and not his because he's so vocal about his disgust with her also knowing he can get away with it... much like Bernie's husband for much of waiting to exhale.
I believe that Trina wasn't around the women because she had already sensed they didn't like her from the beginning when she arrived with Mike. The women were all huddled up staring at her. However when Pat approached her nicely and suggested that she come cook with them, Trina should have gone. When she didn't, it made her seem kinda promiscuous and it showed her true intentions.
I don't think Sheila knew about Mike & Trina but I do think she saw Trina as being beautiful & that her husband (like other men in general) would find her attractive. I think that Trina wasn't being cruel during the shopping trip but had heavy guilt & wanted to see if she can force Mike to leave her & get full back with Sheila without her breaking things with Mike.
This was an excellent analysis. This couldn’t have been the first time infidelity with Mike came up and I’m sure there were other women before but Sheila was so depressed that she either wasn’t able to see it (clouded judgement) or she knew but made excuses for Mike’s poor behavior. Also, Sheila better than me, cause Mike would’ve been on that drive. Trina can fly by her darn self, matter of fact, she can leave. This is a couples trip, you can plan your own singles trip. 😂 When Mike didn’t grab Trina’s bag and walked in front of her, that was a foreshadowing of what she would be experiencing as his main. Also… how could Trina watch him speak to his wife like that or talk about her like that, also abandon her instead of driving with her? That says a lot about her.
Most excellent film choice You are amazing movie reviewers I really enjoy your insight into what are the hidden jewels in many of these wonderful films thank you two very much for all the great work that you do together
Yes Trina wasn’t a respectable woman but me personally if I come with someone to a party and don’t know nobody else there I’m going to stay beside the person I came with I’m low key shy/socially awkward around people I don’t know but I would never be in a situation like mike and Trina
I’ve always thought about how Sheila was always so consumed in other people’s issues, as stated at 20:10. Remember how she reminded her friend it was her husband’s bday and she realized she forgot? Like.. poor thing is the mommy of the group but she was absolutely naive. In my opinion, Trina had no self-respect. It’s one thing you’re sleeping with a married man, but your friend’s husband!!! Then you haul your cheating ass up there AND sleep with him in that house full of his friends. Yikes!
Yeah I do agree she was naive to a degree but only because of all of the abuse she had been through. Her denial is a defense mechanism protecting herself from her husband. He financially, physically and financially abused her for years so I don’t think she is at any fault for how she acts. When you’re abused it becomes learned helplessness especially because her “friends” don’t address anything with her or Mike (not saying it’s their place but it becomes isolating and validates with Mike doe)
@@zeldaandtheocarina I hear what you’re saying and I agree but I think she’s always been naive before Mike, otherwise she may not have fell for him and stayed this long. She gave up her life for him. It had to start somewhere. I think it may be possible that she was already insecure before they got married and he tapped into it to abuse her. Possibly.
I definitely think Mike was wrong for telling the guys about him & Trina messing around. Because all of them were considered Shelia's friends; & it's messed up that she sat around a group of friends that knew her husband was cheating on her with the woman that's sitting right in her face. Angela was the only real friend Shelia had for wanting to tell her the truth from the start.
Re: Trina, you have to have more nerve than a rotten tooth to bring your a$$ on that trip, period. Whether she was smanging Mike or not. The fact that she was, took it way over the top. Sheila should have tossed her over a cliff 😂. Then of course, Mike right behind her or perhaps first. *I'm not a posessive or jealous person like that, but sociopathic behavior is a trigger for me 😬
As a military brat, it is common when veterans retire, they may do so at their last duty station. My mom is from Louisiana, but her last duty station was in Georgia, so that’s where she brought a home.
1:32:13 I always interpreted Angela’s confession about Walter as an untrue dig to get back at Marcus. I has never crossed my mind that Angela had actually contracted VD. However, it’s interesting to think she did and didn’t disclose it as a way to catch Marcus #toxiccouple😅
Would y'all consider watching the second one and doin a review? Also yes people really are like that, i had a friend who constantly talked about her weight in conversation all the time, and acted similar to Shelia in that aspect.
So for those of y’all that don’t know about the whole army brat thing, Sheriff Troy’s dad would have been stationed at Ft Carson. That would explain him being in/ from Colorado.
I was thinking that Army brats moved around a lot because they had a parent in the military. Is this place deep in the mountains close enough to the nearest base that Troy could have lived and grew up here while his father commuted to the base? This is what we were thinking about when questioning the location.
@@HeitCheri So I don’t know much about Colorado or Ft Carson , I’ve never been stationed there but I do know it’s in Colorado Springs. Given what info we get from the movie it’s highly unlikely that Troy grew up in Lake Leland or the surrounding town. It looks really far from post and most military families live on or very near post. That detail about Troy doesn’t make much sense. My best guess is his father bought the property while he was stationed at Carson and they visited frequently. That’s the only way it would make much sense. And yes military brats move around a lot, depending on the branch and needs of the branch you can go anywhere. And depending on the housing situation on and near post they could have had to move further away, but that’s not too common in my experience.
Thanks so much and stay tuned! Please feel free to binge some of our other videos on this channel or on our other channel as well. There's plenty to tide you over until Part 2! :-)
Re: the whole respectable woman/ "I don't get along with other bitĉhes" piece, I think there's a difference between respectaBILITY, and being respectFUL. I take issue with being beholden to the politics of respectability, however Trina was definitely disrespectful or at the very least, guilty of ignoring the temperature of the room. As far as not getting along with other women, that's a red flag, I don't care what the situation is, and requires some inner work.
I think Trina wanted to make sure that Shelia stays with Mike because Trina likes the sex, likes the money, likes the attention, etc of being a side chick. As long as Mike is still with Shelia Mike won’t expect Trina to do the things a wife does and she gets to just be the fun side piece. (You even see that at the end of the movie when Mike complains about the things Trina isn’t doing like she doesn’t cook, clean, or do things you would normally associate with a wife.)
With todays lense, Trina wouldn't have stayed in her lane. In the 2007 lense, Trina was willing to lurk in the shadows until Mike said it was time to step out. A today's "Trina" wouldn't accept that, Sheila would've known long ago Trina was sleeping with her husband
i think she knew in the way that she suspected. it’s why she was so concerned with finding trina a man even after trina declined wanting a relationship. she knew why angela didn’t like her which is why she pretended not to. she knows angela. she knows that as crazy as she is, she doesn’t react like that without a reason. she just didn’t want to face it. when it was told to her so plainly, it shattered the delusion that she could work things out with mike by getting rid of trina as her competition by putting her in a relationship with someone else. at that point it was too real for her not to face it.
Mike is just beyond selfish. And it's what makes Trina look even WORSE. He's not even a good guy who's making a mistake or falling in love with someone else..........he's just an a$$. She betrayed her friend for a JERK.
When you ask about Trina's sincerity when they are in the clothing store...In my opinion I do not think she was. I think she was two-faced doing dirt behind Shelia's back and pretending to root for her marriage to throw off the scent of her dirty deeds that she was doing with Mike. Trinia was smiling all in Shelia's face and meanwhile had a dagger behind her back the whole time. Meanwhile Mike was blatant and disrespectful and not even trying to hide his contempt for Shelia. Meanwhile, Shelia was in denial and didn't want to accept what was in front of her. I once was in Shelia's position dealing with a man who was treating me with disrespect and contempt. I tried to make it work then I had to finally realized I was fighting a losing battle. I stepped back and asked myself why am I allowing this man to treat me like this? When I had my moment of clarity and pulled my head out the sand I finally got the courage to walk away and didn't look back. So after all that spiel no I don't think Trinia was sincere she was wearing the mask of a friend and a wolf in sheep's clothing.
Big as I am - There was definitely a power dynamic at play within their marriage. Mike utilized the money dynamic as well as the Sheila's weight to emotionally and verbally berate Sheila. Sheila has allowed the behavior bc she is also beating up on herself. Therefore she is not looking at the red flags with Mike.
Yeah, Mike was controlling the purse strings for sure. This is why so many women don't trust situations where they don't have access to money freely. It really does trap you. Hell, it would trap anyone who didn't have access to money. This could happen to a stay at home husband too!
Big as i am...Sheriff Troy was wondering about that deposit he has gonna have to refund since they didnt complete the trip 😅... There go the cable bill 😂
I separate the classes by mid/upper Mike,Patrica,Terry and Diane. Lower Angela, Sheila , Marcus Gavin. I sway Gavin and Mike because Mike seems entitled like someone that may not have had to work for much and Gavin gives me the vibe of someone the wanted more and changed. Love all the questions yall ask.
Do you think Shelia would have ever left Mike if he hadn't abandoned her for Trina?
I think so. Finding out what happened just gave her that push. That bottle didn’t knock his head off for nothing !!!!
No, at least not for a long while.
@@angelaholmes8888Hoping for your healing ❤❤
It is really sad because it was depression and low self esteem with Sheila ; then weight gain and weight loss depends on multiple factors. Genetics, metabolism, and will power which is different for everyone.
I absolutely agree. She turned to food and Trina for comfort and support from her troubled marriage. She was probably grazing while preparing Mike's meals.
They are way calmer friends than me. They would have had to convince me that Mike didn’t kill Shelia & kept up with the trip to seem “normal” 😂.
Oh yeah!!! There would have been a full investigation into Sheila's whereabouts... Well pulling up maps of her likely route and going to look for her.
😂😂😂😂
THANK YOU!!! I know Angela is the wild friend but she was closest to the reaction I would have. We are not moving forward until you tell me where MY friend is. And lowkey you may earn a pop in the mouth being so relaxed about making my friend drive.
I know right?! As in, NOBODY will be enjoying this trip until we hear from Sheila!
@@esjay-rh7wx PERIOD
The abuse has always been present from Mike and it just progressed over the years. In the second movie Mike tries to temperature check Sheila and tries to bring up a memory. She says "Yeah I remember the tile I had to wash my blood off of it."
Yup!!! Mike laughed about the horrible pink tile. She said the tile was pink cuz she couldn't get the blood out of it. It was her blood stain. 😢😡
I remember her saying she scrubbed the tile over and over and the tile was originally yellow if I remember correctly and I felt so sad.
Yes!!!!! A true friend would have gently told Sheila what was up. That dinner scene was a mess.
I think they just wanted to give her time to see it
Her friend was too obvious. Because she should have went with her on the bus. Lol not to tell ya how to Cheat just saying play the part
Naw sometimes they get mad at you for telling them the truth... sometimes they have to see it for themselves....
I think Sherriff Troy had to feel like SOMETHING was off, especially when he asked why Sheila was literally coming up on the rough side of the mountain, going to a couples retreat by herself.🙄
At the very least I would think he's forming some judgements about her husband.
Well it was obvious to him. He was judging crappy azz Mike.

💯
I'm not convinced that Trina didn't want to be the wife. While there are some side chicks who don't want to be the wife (or the main), I believe that many of them do.
Now if the side chick just wants to have fun with someone's husband, that's on them. However, if they are hoping the man will leave his wife (or main) they are generally setting themselves up for failure. Statistics are not in their favor.
@@HeitCheri for some reason, they see the stats and still think there is a chance... It's really sad to be honest.
@@caliBornbEauty Sad but true
What really ticked me off about this movie watching it more as I got older is that the other husbands never called Mike out on his BS. Like fully called him out. They casually laugh with him as though the ish he was doing and saying to Sheila was ok. They don't discuss what they know about Mike messing around with Trina to their wives they just let the shit escalate to what happened at dinner.
Sadly that how most men act in real life.
And they were ALL supposed to be friends.
And she should have went upstairs for part 2 with Trinas azz.. They had a lot of wine 🍷 on that table 😆😆😆😆😆

Angela knew Trina was bad news
And the fact that he told her that she needed to slap Trina. Big red flag
I saw this movie years ago and the first time I realized, Sheila probably found comfort in her friend going because of how mean her husband is. I think that partially kept her character distracted from what was actually going on :(
I agree. She probably wanted a decent companion to have fun with on the trip. BUT it was supposed to be a marriage retreat 😂

I had a uncle like Mike, but after his wife left he sunk into a dark lonely abyss
This happens to a lot of men who play when they are young and then wish they had companionship when they grow older.
Just like Mike in the second movie
Misery loves company
I like Tasha Smith!
Trina did have a job at the beginning when she Mike and Sheila getting on the plane Sheila told Trina all that stress on your job
The Mike character shows how great an actor Richard T. Jones really is. He is an ordained minister in real life.
He has not play sympathetic characters. He's such a great actor that I cannot imagine him as a minister. 🤣 I'm gonna have to look him up now. Thanks for the info!
@HeitCheri you're right. He played the same type of character in "The Wood" as well.
Wow didn't know that
That’s so mindblowing!

Their marriage didn't work out a little better it worked out so much better
I think mike confessing is very in character to his personality. Because he told his guy friends what was doing with Trina, but after his 'secret" is out he used other people's problems because he's a snake and uses your secrets against them!
Yeah he was a snake!
I get so mad when I hear larger women degrade themselves like sis everyone ain’t meant to be the same size! Love yourself in whatever skin you’re in.

If Trina could see that Mike was terrible, why would she want to be bothered with him at all when she couldn't have been anyone's side chick?
@@HeitCheri He was probably breaking her off with gifts and money. You see they don’t stay together in the sequel. She probably had the AUDACITY to gain a pound or 2, and Mike ended the illusion and started treating her the way he treated his ex.

I feel like Sheila thought no one else would love her except Mike. She probably thought if my own husband finds me disgusting and fat then how could anyone else see me as beautiful.
True
BIG AS I AM, that dinner scene is one of the best scenes in a film lol and she was never gonna leave! She didn’t think she could find any better. Sheila’s character was insecure, had low self esteem and had no confidence
I also think that she was stuck on Mike... I mean she love LOVED him!

I love when you guys do these in depth reviews!! My biggest gripe in this movie was probably Trina’s audacity to agree to show up at this married couples retreat, while she is willingly having an affair with her so-called friends husband! BIG AS I AM...Patricia also has the same sort of issue then that Sheila does. She's more worried about everyone else's marital hang-ups than her own.
She knew she was dirty and wanted to avoid what was inevitable.
I don't think she would have left Mike on her own.
Angela’s face when she told Mike to let them single people have a private moment 😂😂😂
😆
Sheila still looked beautiful to me
She was sweet, kind, and helpful.
Good point about the way that the other professional women may have viewed Sheila....
Tell me what couple would invite an extra person to a COUPLE retreat. Nobody!!! It's difficult to put me in Sheila's footsteps.
Exactly!
Retreat my @@@! I'd drive all right! Straight back home to call my lawyer and have divorce papers waiting for Mike when he got back.

The guys were friends college because Tyler Perry’s character was explaining how everyone is living their dream and goal they wanted in college

I believe that Sheila didn’t know about Trina and Mike, but I think she had a belief that he was stepping out.

She may have been smarter than them all. That wouldn't surprise me. I don't think anyone said that Angela wasn't smart. In fact, I don't think we made any comments about her intelligence at all.
Yall did kind of stereo type Angela, just cause she loud, and outspoken
I feel like Sheila was a very “you can’t tell me nothing about my man” type and that paired with how often the other women called Angie crazy is what stopped her from telling Sheila right away
Funny sidenote, the flight attendant that suggests Sheila buy 2 plane tickets is the same flight attendant from “Last Holiday”. I guess he plays the role of snarky flight attendant well lol smh 😂
😂
And both times he was messing with a Sista just trying to enjoy her flight! 😂
"She's not ready" no one is ever going to be ready to find out thier spouse is cheating on them.
Facts!
That's such a great point about looking for the easy out!
When Mike didn’t grab Trina’s bag and walked in front of her, that was a foreshadowing of what she would be experiencing as his main. Also… how could Trina watch him speak to his wife like that or talk about her like that, also abandon her instead of driving with her? That says a lot about her.
Thanks so much!
Most excellent film choice You are amazing movie reviewers I really enjoy your insight into what are the hidden jewels in many of these wonderful films thank you two very much for all the great work that you do together
Thank you kindly!
Yes Trina wasn’t a respectable woman but me personally if I come with someone to a party and don’t know nobody else there I’m going to stay beside the person I came with I’m low key shy/socially awkward around people I don’t know but I would never be in a situation like mike and Trina
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 just found y’all 🙏🏾🙏🏾 happy I did!!
Welcome!!! 🤗
Yikes!
Yeah Trina was a real trollop!
Possibly.
@@haitianprincess215 yup and that’s what abusers do they’re able to find these women and use that against them
I definitely think Mike was wrong for telling the guys about him & Trina messing around.
*I'm not a posessive or jealous person like that, but sociopathic behavior is a trigger for me 😬
Yeah she was sooooo outta bounds!
Just binged watched all the videos on the couple’s and subscribed! Please do why did i get married too. I will love to binge watch that too haha
Thank you so much!!! ❤️❤️❤️
As a military brat, it is common when veterans retire, they may do so at their last duty station. My mom is from Louisiana, but her last duty station was in Georgia, so that’s where she brought a home.
BIG AS I AM!!! I enjoy the conversation between the two of you and the perspectives that you both have.
Glad you enjoy it!
I never considered that she was lying to save face 😆
they way i cried out and hollered when he said we don’t know if troy mama killed the dad had me weak … major plot twist 😂😂😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂😂
Would y'all consider watching the second one and doin a review? Also yes people really are like that, i had a friend who constantly talked about her weight in conversation all the time, and acted similar to Shelia in that aspect.
Yes
Ax I really love this commentary on our favorite films!!! It’s just something about this specific duo lol
❤️😊
I noticed the man sitting next to Shelia on plane is not skinny himself but complains about her being fat...🤨 That's fat shaming, that's not nice.
I noticed that too. Sheila and Mike could have easily switched and all would have been fine.
The play was funny with the reveal when Sheila pulls a gun out on both of them
This movie was Tyler Perry at his best. 👏🏽👏🏽
@@HeitCheri I hope this maybe explained a little bit more and added some context 😁
Trina offering not to go was the fake out people do when they don’t feel like doing something forreal lol
He said "then I'll be uncomfortable" like he couldn't have just sat where Sheila was and Sheila sit where he and Trina were.
He ain't want on on that plane periodt!
Big As I Am.
I enjoyed this breakdown of Mike and Sheila… Can’t wait until the second part!!
Good point about being respectful vs respectable! That said, attina was both disrespectful and not respectable at the same time! 😂
Trina sounds like Trifling to me when you two say her name!
How appropriate! 😂😂😂
Yeah, I agree! These Trina-type trollops of today are bold! 🤣
Oh yes, Todays “Trina” would have aired the man out the moment her Christmas gift was 10 minutes late 😂
“BIG AS I AM”, I loved the breakdown
i think she knew in the way that she suspected. it’s why she was so concerned with finding trina a man even after trina declined wanting a relationship. she knew why angela didn’t like her which is why she pretended not to. she knows angela. she knows that as crazy as she is, she doesn’t react like that without a reason. she just didn’t want to face it. when it was told to her so plainly, it shattered the delusion that she could work things out with mike by getting rid of trina as her competition by putting her in a relationship with someone else. at that point it was too real for her not to face it.
56:00 I always took Sheila replying with that question 2 ways. It was a deflection and a passive aggressive way of saying mind your business.
I’m sorry I would have cussed Mike ass out for Sheila and cussed Sheila out for being dumb. There’s only so much I could take lol
Big as i am this was an amazing video!
❤️❤️❤️
I agree men usually stick with the men at gatherings and same with the women she could have at least make an attempt to get to know the ladies
Right! She didn't even try, so of course the developing relationship was gonna be adversarial with the women.
The one thing this movie made me think was why would i get married?
You know this is fiction, right?
@@HeitCheri yes I do but I have seen similar real life situations that made me think the same.
Meanwhile
Mike was blatant and disrespectful and not even trying to hide his contempt for Shelia.
😂
I separate the classes by mid/upper Mike,Patrica,Terry and Diane. Lower Angela, Sheila , Marcus Gavin. I sway Gavin and Mike because Mike seems entitled like someone that may not have had to work for much and Gavin gives me the vibe of someone the wanted more and changed. Love all the questions yall ask.
