Do you think that Troy and Nike could have eventually become "cool" with one another in the friend group if Mike didn't make all of those snide remarks about Troy marrying his ex, etc?
I don't think so. Unfortunately, Mike doesn't respect boundaries. He never respected Sheila's boundaries, and he doesn't respect Troy's. He continues to make comments about being Sheila's first, about Troy essentially taking his sloppy seconds(not my thoughts and paraphrasing) and, in general, making comments that made this newly married couple uncomfortable. How can you have a cordial relationship with someone who doesn't respect you in the first place? Not to mention how it must make Troy feel hearing this man who was supposed to love and honor the woman that he now loves speak so poorly of her. Mike literally tries to humiliate Sheila to Troy's face knowing that they are now in a relationship. I know that for myself I can handle being called names or being someone's joke. Water off a duck's back and all that. But you try to do that to someone I love and we will have a whole mess of problems. I think most people are willing to stand up for their loved one more than they would for themselves. We all deserve a partner that wants to protect us physically and emotionally.
If I was Troy I wouldn't be interested in a friendship with Mike. That first impression would've made me run from that. Mike had no morals. Who needs friends like that?
I believe Sheila's weight is symbolic of what is going on in her life. When she was with Mike, she weighed more because of the turmoil in the relationship weighed "heavy" on her. She weighed less with Troy because their relationship was loving and she was supported. She didn't have to carry "weight" of the relationship anymore.
I agree. I definitely feel that in regards to the weight it's something she wanted to do for herself. Maybe it's me digging into something that isn't meant to be dug, but I do think Troy loved her from the beginning. Sheila never did anything for him and he was there to help and not the cause of anything. I do think that the divorce pushed her into being a version she liked. Especially with losing weight. Though Mike weaponised it, it never felt like a jab at him to me but a I'm doing great, I survived and I got this out of it.
1:00:22 Let’s keep it real. Sheila didn’t turn the other cheek. She moved on, she lost weight and she got married once again to a good man who had her back when the chips fell. She was still highly upset but since she was at the banquet, she kept her cool. Basically gave her “Friend” Trina a huge F::k YOU and moved on with class.
Sheila’s friends are trash flat out! Even if they were licking their own wounds they should hv made sure they newly single friend found a way home. They let that girl stay there in a whole different state. My bestie and I could NEVVAA!!! If that means I got to drag her to the airport I’m gonna do it😂😂😂
If y’all remember their 3way phone call, when ole girl forgot her own hubby(Tyler) bday, they all tell her how much they called and tried to figure out where she was and if she was ok and she told them mike cut her phone off and instead of her just calling them all and letting them know she was good and with Troy, she just shut down and didn’t reach out🙄🤷🏾♀️😂😂😂
@@mrssuchafknladyy2078To be very fair- I can totally understand that after being humiliated and abandoned like that, you would wanna shut the world out and lick your wounds in solitude. I just don’t get why the friends didn’t check on her and her plans before they all left instead of calling after the fact 😂.
Nobody reported a crime and Sheriff Troy was off duty😅...He was like not my problem. Mike woke up and called that bank immediately to empty the account😂😂
Tyler Perry lacks attention to important details like this in his films. Perhaps it's because he got his start in stage plays where janky wigs weren't a big deal since you never see them up close.
While that is true especially since he's based in Atlanta... But Sheila also didn't make as much money as the rest...so maybe this was with a purpose. 😅it was horrible to look at.
I think the "lipstick" wasn't supposed to be an indicator of her not being attracted to Mike. I think it was more to show how self absorbed she is. She isn't as loving, nurturing, and doesn't prioritize Mike the way that Sheila had. I shows more when Mike lists off all the things that Trina "just don't". Trina looks good and presents well, but it's all surface level.
I think sherif Troy was the only person that could’ve gave the monologue about what she’s been through. She wasn’t talking to her girls, he was literally the only person watching/witnessing her grow and go through the pain and heart break. He was pretty much her only friend, her therapist, and her witness to it all after the infamous dinner.
I think Troy had to be straight up with Sheila cuz he's been around her enough to gage how low her self esteem is. Mike broke her down so much that she can't fathom another man, an attractive one at that, is interested in her.
I completely agree with you! I think he helped her build herself back up so she could love herself again. He didn't try to just put a bandage over the damage by complimenting her. Some people believe that simply being told good things about yourself should make you better. The thing is that it doesn't because we all have that nasty internal dialog that tells us that it's a lie, that there is nothing good about us. Troy helped Sheila heal that emotion damage instead of trying to fix her himself.
In Sheriff Troy's defense, he witnessed a lot of drama he didn't sign up for that night. By the time Sheila cracked Mike with the bottle he was probably paralyzed in shock from all the tea he was served.
I think y’all are going to hard in Sheila wanting to do things by herself. It’s not about being an independent women, it’s about the fact that’s hen she relied on someone they left her with nothing. When you experience something like that, you want to make sure that it never happens again. So Shiela is simply building herself. There’s nothing wrong with that. She may felt like if she lived with her friends she would rely on them when she wants to do things by herself Further when it comes to Sheila’s weight, I don’t think Troy had a problem with Sheila’s weight, but Sheila clearly had a problem with her weight. It makes sense that Troy would say, if you have an issue with yourself do something about it instead of complaining about it. If you can’t do something about it, then stop bitching about it, because what is Troy supposed to do? It’s clear that he can tell her she’s beautiful but thats not going to change her mindset overnight. And I would rather not want to hear someone complaining about something they don’t like and having to reassure someone all the time that they’re fine. And while I do hate the fact in movies a women can’t just be big and be happy and in love, clearly weight was an issue with Sheila
I totally agree. When you have relied on people who have a abused you, you do want to make sure that it never happens again. So, I totally understand why she wanted to do all of her building process herself. 1:03:40
I’m sorry to say this but Sheila was dumb when it came to emptying that bank account! While he was out COLD! I would have drained him of every red cent! And went in hiding! And also! She should have been putting money aside for herself the entire marriage since she wasn’t working! Even if she was working, the abuse ALONE deserves a Salary!
I heard that Sheila’s monologue at the end (in the ladies restroom) was mostly improv because Jill Scott just so happened to be going through a bad breakup at that time. 🎉 I saw it in the making of the film.
Shelia saying she has nothing after giving her life to her Mike as a housewife in my opinion shows her loving nature but also a cautionary tale of not being dependent on a man when he makes the most money, and can replace you with a snap of his fingers once he's tired of his toy.
Maybe she wasn't trying to lose weight. Many things can cause weight loss, like stress. She lost weight when she gained confidence, decreased her stress levels, and maybe decreased her emotional eating. She also joined Troy at the gym, and they walked and spent time together. This and a combination of other things could have caused the weight loss. We often overlook how important a solid support system is. This included telling her to stop dumbing herself. It's funny watching this as a child. I never noticed the weight loss. I noticed she started exuding more confidence, took pride in her body, and stopped wearing clothes that hid it but celebrated it. What I got out of her story at 11 was to love yourself, celebrate your body and you will find people who appreciate you just as you are.
I'm glad that sheila allowed her heart to open for troy after the abuse and cruelty she suffered at the hands of Mike it's not easy after for some people who have been in an abusive relationship
I just wish she was alone for a few months to gather herself instead of immediately going with another man right there I feel it's important to be by yourself for awhile after a long marriage, especially if it was bad
I am completely like Shelia when anyone I love ask me if I need help, I always say I'm fine even if I'm sitting in fire. I want everyone to see me as put together to some point so her saying she's okay totally made sense to me
She tells them that she has the find her own way. That’s an awesome thing to realize that you spent years depending on a man and other people now you’re doing it yourself.
The Mike/Shelia/Troy storyline is probably the one that was done better in the play. Troy was friends with the couples in the play and was the only single friend I recall him even mentioning he had a crush on Shelia in school but didn't do anything because Mike was his boy. It's been a long time since I've seen the play but I think Mike and Shelia had children (all boys I think) and he reason they got married was because she got pregnant I think in the play it was also alluded to that her weight gain was from having the boys. Also in the play Shelia did so it all on her own, she divorced Mike and was a working single mother she didn't take anything in the divorce not even child support. But I do know for a fact that in the play Shelia got to call out Trina on being her fake friend and all the good things she did for her.
Mike gave me narcissist vibes. Also it was interesting that Troy was the one that checked on her when her friends didn't yet when they all went to check Patricia in the sequel when she went off the rails in the sequel
You have to be careful voicing your insecurities to others. Troy could have easily been another Mike in training and exploited her weight issues and became verbally abusive later in their marriage.
I think the reason Troy didn’t say anything to Mike at the banquet because he allowed Shelia to have her moment to shut him down and put that final nail in the coffin. That was her mic drop. If things went awry then yes he would’ve stepped in.
Sheila seems like she was raised to worship men/her husband. As she worshipped God.. and the two became interchangeable.. therefore, on top of alot of women being taught that A real man pays for everything, is aggressive, she prolly saw his blatant disrespect as Divine Honesty.. therefore she never questioned him.. she accepted her role as that.. Her Role.. amongst the "Blame Thee Woman" culture of alot of religions, in her case, Christianity.. she accepted whatever abuse and failure as her fault.. therefore. Never questioning him.. and thats commonly shown in Tyler Perry Works also.. Helen worshipped Charles in Diary of a Mad Black Woman.. Victoria groomed Lisa to Worship Carl, in Madea's Family Reunion Tho, taraji character rebelled her religious background in I Can Do Bad All By Myself... She still worshipped her man up until the end.. In the words of Victoria "Stop Doing What Yo Doin To Make Him Angry ".. And in those dynamics.. Juss as you're taught not to Question God.. Questioning their husband/man.. is Blasphemous & makes them deserving of Abuse.. so they dont question anything.. they settle in the delusion of Toxic Positivity & Toxic Gratitude.
36:03 this speech reminds me of the Boondocks "Winston Jerome" episode.... "I know I'm just a lonely muscular guy who doesn't own a shirt. but I luuuhs you and I luuuhs me some Jesus!"
I agree to an extent with the point about her having NOT lost the weight but still having her powerful moment, but I have a different perspective on this. Sheila had gained weight likely because of the abuse & neglect Mike showed her, which caused her to internalize that and it manifested itself in a way (physically) that she wasn’t happy with. I think it’s symbolic that when she lost Mike, she lost the dead weight he brought her too. Like a huge metaphor. She lost weight & lost WEIGHT. I liked that about her “transformation” because THIS was who Mike married. He took this from her & she was a direct reflection of how he treated her. That’s what’s powerful about it to me.
Did anyone else find it funny Sheila was willing to go to the movies with Troy by the end of the general store scene, but not willing to go work out with him at the beginning of the scene, after fishing for validation by saying she should go with him sometime!? She got the validation she needed, she didn't have to work out, and she got a date out of it! Oh... oh Sheila!!!
I was waiting for this I always resonated with Troy as a character, and as a man. Honestly, he’s the only character in the film that I relate to. Troy is exactly the man that Sheila not only needed, but deserved. Mike didn’t deserve a woman like Sheila, and I’m glad Troy aided her on her journey to becoming a better woman by helping her see her own value. Edit: 1:57 The wine bottle scene always takes me out 😂😂😂 Y’all know what y’all doing with the editing 😭
The whole thing is really simple. Sheriff Troy got a front row seat to her tragic life. So he empathizes and cares. He doesn't speak because ultimately she has to decide to move forward. Ever heard of the saying be slow to speak and quick to listen. This is probably the first time in a long time someone is just listening and not trying to give advice. As a Christian sometimes the voice of God doesn't come through prayer it comes from someone who just cares.
That general store scene perspective is different. As a grown woman who just got embarrassed and LEFT by my cheating husband who was taking care of me and left me out to ROT… no I don’t wanna take y’all money. Friends, sisters, idc. I have a job, I have somewhere to stay, my phone is off but I can still CALL.. when I get my check ima pay my bill. I don’t wanna take your money people have been taking care of me all my life! This stranger man got me a job. A sheriff, who seemingly cares about me. It was GOD. Lol we be thinking so logically n I get it it’s a review n other perspectives, but Sheila was in God’s palm during that transition. I’m GLAD she didn’t let the girls in. Cause she had been through enough she needed to be in isolation. After all that with Mike they probably wouldn’t have heard from me PERIOD lol. Some situations you have to walk ALONE.
@@ArnixNoelle Haha thanks!! Ive had this account since I was like 10 years old 😂😂😂😂 sometimes I forget!! Thank you as well! I love this movie the reviews are so spicy 🔥🔥
I don't think Shelia needed to say anything else. When you are truly TRULY healed from something you don't need to get anything off your chest. You're past it, you don't care what they have to say and you don't feel the need to be heard. Silence speaks volumes. I know that I'm healed from a situation when i don't have a comeback prepared. If i see my ex today i would just move right along
About 10 years ago my husband and I were hitting a rough patch. All of our friends who were married around the same time as us were divorced and all I kept hearing was,"atleast yal are still together." People think staying married is the prize and it's not if someone is miserable. They couldn't see that. This was my 2nd marriage and it lasted much longer than the first but even now at this 28 year mark , I'm fully prepared to walk away or let him walk away if we get to a super unhealthy point.
The “if you don’t like how you look, change it” is actually a good one. That can mean change how you feel about yourself or view your beauty. You said someone who is dark skin can hate their tone, they can change their view on how they perceive their tone. If Sheila didn’t physically change her weight, her mindset could’ve been altered. Mike telling her that “fat is wrong” pushes the narrative of her weight being negative. If she has self love, she’ll most likely view her weight (regardless of big/small) as positive.
I always thought the way Mike was written with almost novela levels of cruelty, mostly because I don’t know anyone especially old friends that could ever witness half of that and just move along, nah. This is my new favorite channel. I’m about to clean my whole house and binge half these videos 😭
Honestly shiela should’ve given her self time to be single before jumping into another relationship she made herself vulnerable for another man to treat her however he want she just blind by lust n hurt
Yeah, the couple's retreat and the award ceremony are eight months apart. She moved on a little too quickly for me. If they'd been still dating, I'd have bought it
Troy did the right thing by not interfering until absolutely necessary because she had to have the strength to stand up to Mike the demon on her own. Plus we had to see that Mike no longer has dominion over her. She had to take her power back from. She's not a little girl. For once she needed to handle her business
While you guys were having the discussion about the seating arrangements for the award show i had a theory of my own about it. You guys thought troy should be seated behind sheila to protect her to keep her away from mike. You guys also suggested it was just like a bad call. My thought was that maybe it was intentional. Because they are focusing on sheila right. She is in the middle of both men who has a history with her. Now mike is behind her to imply her past with her and it is her past that is trying to be where troy is who is seated in front of her to indicate her future. So when she stares at troy's back she is looking at her future and she doesnt care for what's behind her 🤔
Y'all keep calling Sheila's FRIENDS friends, they are like "work" friends. Sheriff Troy checked on her, 🎶 what about her friends?🎶. I guess you are right, everyone SKIT was exposed and they didn't or couldn't come to her help🤷♀️. It's a mess!!!
THANK YOU! There’s no way my “friend”, after experiencing a traumatic event like that dinner, disappear and I go back home without asking about her. I’m tearing up that mountain and town to find you, make sure you’re ok, and that you got some kind of plan. I know this movie isn’t based in full reality but my first thought would be black women come up missing all the time, my friend won’t be a statistic on my watch. 🙌🏽
I didn't look at the dug at the end as a character flaw. To me, she was doing what Diane did to Terry in the car when she questioned him about what the paternity test he took on their daughter. Terry confirmed the child was his and Diane said, "Hm," to plant a seed of doubt in his head. She was doing the same thing to Mike by making him question if he really was her first.
Hmmm... I don't know about this one. She actually says "you did think you were my first..." That just feels different than what Diane did, but maybe so.
Totally agree about what troy said about sheila's weight I wasn't comfortable with it because there are some people who have medical issues that causes them to gain weight like the actress who played alison dilaurentis she suffers from pcos which caused her to gain weight
Im very appreciative of that convo about Troy saying, if She doesnt like how she looks, do som'n about it.. Much Needed Convo AF.. cuz if you dont learn to love yourself as however you are first.. you're gonna do self harming things to try to change your aesthetic.. it has to start on the inside. And errthing can't be changed. Everything shouldn't be changed.
Troy's monolog about how Mike tried to break Shelia was very similar to what was said in "Diary of a Mad Black Woman " down to the circumstances involving the breakup.
TP did that same “he tried to break you but you made it” speech in Diary of a Mad Black Woman. Probably in other films too, but I feel like that’s lazy writing to always have that in his films (and plays) tbh 🤷🏽♀️
To me Sheila was kind of enabler and that showed on the second one. Also there was still an attachment with Mike on the sequel. Plus she was wrong to telling everyone they used their last for the trip.
I agree; their friends didn't need to know they spent their last (and why are you spending your last on a vacation when you've got a young baby to support?). I was ticked off that she helped Mike when he was sick in the sequel. Mike had money (he took it all in their divorce), so he could have hired a personal assistant to take him to his chemo treatments, etc. I feel he asked Sheila as an excuse to weasel his way back into her life at a time when nobody wanted to be around him. Mike was cruel to Sheila during their marriage and during their divorce, so she owed him nothing.
I'm not a guy but there is something stank about Mike being at that ceremony. Now i was raised by a bunch of guys so I've definitely seen that guys don't hold grudges the same as women. However, this is no different than what Harper did in the best man: Mike did EVERYTHING foul in the friendship circle. So Angie asking why she/ they were there isn't unreasonable. Especially knowing Sheila was coming. But... If it's established that Sheila and Mike were actually stable in their current positions (let's say they had a heart to heart talk and they came to a mutual understanding), i personally wouldn't find the situation strange because they chose to be civil and came solely to support a friend. But just popping up like nothing happened is some bull and weaves and wigs need to be snatched in the parking lot.
At 35:50, I think that was a plausible mini dialogue. It’s just an example of effective communication. His main love language is probably words of affirmation. My ex would give me a similar pep talk when I was feeling down about myself, my dad as well and my other male and female friends. And I’d do the same in return. A man communicating effectively doesn’t have to be sleazy
I have a love/hate relationship with Tyler Perry because he literally rewrites all the classic black movies, but he doesn’t always do a good job of it. I actually liked this movie. I think it is one of his better ones. This was a great breakdown. Can't wait for the next one!
This is just a little perspective on the women's friendship and them not insisting on knowing where she is. You have to remember these are genx people, tradionally black Christian genx who were raised by boomers and that philosophy of don't bring other women into your home runs deep. It's not said in this movie but I feel it was implied because these women are portrayed as extremely close yet Shelia was "missing" for at least a few weeks and everyone seemingly went on with their lives
Actually they weren’t GenX or Z, they were millennials🙄🤷🏾♀️😂😂i never saw this as “traditionally” Anything, especially Christian 🤔🥴😭😭😭 how can you check on your friend and they had a whole conversation where Shelia said mike cut her phone off, drained the accounts and instead of her reaching out to them, she just shut down and tried to deal with it🤷🏾♀️
Tyler is considering doing a third movie, but I think he should do a limited series similar to The Best Man: The Final Chapters on Peacock. The series should be a prequel. I want to know the back story of each of the couples during their college years.
I live how Shiela said, “ I wonder what I do if I saw you on the street. Whoop… that… Ass…” remember the Sheila and Tasha are first cousins and related to Madea. Shiela Simmons is her maiden name. He shouldn’t have shown.
This information is expressed in the play. Those are their maiden names. According to the plays, movies, and book Irene Baker-Andrews is Mabel “Madea” Michelle Baker-Simmons’ older sister who passed in Family Reunion. Shiela is Shirley Andrew (Big Happy Family), and Sonny Andrew’s (Madea Goes to Jail/House of Payne) sister. I’ve seen all the movies and plays and read the book in two days; Don’t Make a Black Woman Take off Her Earrings. All accept Joe’s I’ve been Changed which is unavailable. I like to watch franchise series to give them a chance.
😂😂I just assumed it wasn’t emphasis on her friends not “running for or behind her” bc they let her be🤷🏾♀️ she was hurt AF, mad AFFF😂😂 and hit her dusty a$$ hubby in his dome for playing in her face 🙄🥴🤷🏾♀️😂😂 they let her be to figure it out, cry it out, whatever and when she stormed out they did call for her tho and she dipped and I’m assuming they understood it in her moment 🙄 it was messy and overwhelming and most of all she was EMBARRASSED over everything 😬
1:12:43 After Troy watched Sheila go through what she went through after the reveal, I wouldn't be chummy with Mike either. I'd be real petty if I had to converse with the person who hurt someone I love that badly. Sis couldn't find comfort in her religion, had $87 to her name, and was left stranded after YEARS of emotional abuse and neglect? Nah, Mike is going on my hit list lol
Y’all should do diary of a mad black woman next. I love how y’all are breaking these relationships down in these movies in ways that I never thought of.
@1:27:59 Mike brought up the gastric bypass as a dig because in his mind there is no way that Sheila physically lost her weight herself. I also wonder if that's a dig to people that get the surgery... Is losing weight by surgery less of an achievement than if a person did it through exercise and diet alone?
I think the confrontation or lack of with Shelia and Trina definitely showscases the male and female view (generally). If a woman would have written that scene there would have been a confrontation but since a man wrote it there wasn't because like Heti said what's the point. There really is not point but as woman we need to express that betrayal of the friendship
I think some of the things that are left out are meant to allow the viewer to infer based on their own life experiences. I dont think for these types of movies every thing needs to be spelled out because then it would be boring. I have a psychology background and plenty of experience with very low character people that have experienced trauma. So my lens on the weight loss topic is through that of depression where yours is of the aesthetic. There's two different view points based on our life experiences which opens the door for ur commentary videos which are GREAT!!!!
Been watching you guys videos for a short while and just realised I was not subscribed smh. Also, I admire how you all could have a difference of opinion and still not over talk one another. 💚
troy’s speech @ 35:00 actually was meaningful. & actually, not unrealistic lol. there ARE some men that pour into women that way. i have had the gift of experiencing it- & i NEEDED it when he said it also. it’s not “game,” it’s actual ENCOURAGEMENT. like: “look at YOU. you ARE special, i am clearly attracted to you but also, my attraction doesnt stop at the physical. i want to be there for you & uplift you also.” everything a guy says doesnt have to be “slick.” in fact, i find it suspicious when a guy has all this “game.” just TALK to me. ♥️
Sheila doesn't even know how to take care of herself and it seems like she NEEDS male guidance of some sort. Troy is having to tell her how to make decisions about what to do next.
I feel like Tyler Perry films are so poor at storytelling! The details that could be explained in a “play” setting, get sort of glossed over in a movie format. Earlier in the video Heit asked certain questions about Sheila that make total sense and normally would be explained but I feel Perry isn’t good at that The best part of this film for me is Sheila in the bathroom explaining her life to her friends and how God sent her Troy to help her become who she is at that moment. Jill Scott almost had me cry with her acting in that scene, I loved it! I just wish Perry gave Sheila some type of sense when it came to how Mike was treating her. That led to some unnecessary self deprecation, which in turn causes Troy to tell Sheila he doesn’t like her talking that way. Now in the movie “Waiting to Exhale”, Gloria met her next door neighbor, played by Gregory Hines. When Gloria mentioned how big she was, he didn’t care, he said his deceased wife was big, and he liked a woman with meat on her bones. Now yes all men are not like that, but in Sheila’s case; that would’ve been nice to hear after having a man like Mike verbally abuse her for years. After being with Troy for alittle, let her decide of her own accord to lose weight, not because it was suggested by a man
@@smilealwaysnatasha3423 having other writers would’ve lead to more ideas and a more fleshed out characters. I feel like the only well written characters in the movie are Angela and Marcus, mainly because they’re the most toxic.
I believe that sheriff Troy was showing his true genuine kindness and gentle spirit. Compared to Mike who was cold hearted and vain. Troy sees her beauty inside and out. When he takes her to the mountains I hardly doubt he takes anyone if that's his special place to vent and find peace. Society looks down at men who show emotion and vulnerability so him sharing that place with her shows his giving nature, a place to release what most cannot.
I feel like there are men that would say the sweet shihh that Troy said to Sheila.. but in a different way. Or they ask certain questions or say lik stuff to get the womam to get herself to thee point of thinking and saying it for herself.. But.. Troy is spitting a lil game.. i dont think its playa or malicious.. But he's trynna tell her that he's into her on a real level. He trynna tell her, he sees her.. I think his 'Charming Words of Wisdom" are also meant to be a reflection of his parents.. his way of protecting & providing is a reflection of his Daddy .. His 'spitting game' - charm aspect, is also a reflection of his Father.. i feel like even the 'goodest' of men, feel a need to spit a lil game (and women do like that.. words of affirmation & reassurance)... and i feel His way of compassion & comfort. Is to be a reflection of his mother.. Tyler Perry trynna say, that's how a man can be when he comes from a Healthy Two Parent Household.
Like I said before in the polls. Although Troy was there in uniform he was off duty. He’s not officer Troy exactly he’s more of a friend. So unless it’s an emergency he’s gonna let them do them and just make sure it doesn’t escalate. Ion remember if mike requested she be arrested but if he then theeeeen he would have no choice but to arrest her
@@HeitCheri yeah this is true but be honest if you was a cop and you pulled over your mom for speeding. Would you give her a ticket yes or no? Most ppl would not? Officer Troy is not gonna take Sheila in unless he absolutely have to. If mike wanted to file a police report than he would have no choice but to do so.
If Troy had arrested Sheila, he would've had to arrest Markus as well 😭😭😭.. I feel like Fuck Mike. They he battered her mentality and.. ik we stay focused on the movie at hand. But in the second movie it's revealed that Mike was also physically abusive to her.. so i say what she did was long overdue self defense 😭😭😭.. that may be a lil toxic. But that's how I feel until & unless another level of maturity kicks in once im thirty or so. Lol.. Markus and Angela.. i feel like Markus & Angela could've been arrested. They had multiple offenses at play.. sexual assault by way of STDs & the way he say Angela 'takes it', and his serial cheating. Angela's verbal abuse.. Markus turned violent.. the two of them needed a night or two in the holding cell 😭😭😭
Well, I just happened to watch the second movie a few days ago and Troy said that he owed the mortgage in Atlanta and "back home" in Colorado. With no money coming in, this is why money was tight. He clearly had assets.
I guess I just wish he didn't write it that way. Cause Troy was the hero in this one but in the second one, I didn't like him too much cause he was angry and kinda short. All because of financial issues that he could have not had if he managed his assets better. I get it for the sake of a story line but he could have pulled from the play, wrote in co-parenting struggles and kept troy hero adjacent.
Do you think that Troy and Nike could have eventually become "cool" with one another in the friend group if Mike didn't make all of those snide remarks about Troy marrying his ex, etc?
No I don't think troy and mike would be cool with each other
I don't think they would be cool with each, but cordial with EXPLICITLY set BOUNDARIES.

I don't understand how they all left the mountain without Sheila in the first place. I wouldn't have left without my friend after that incident
Hell when Shelia was driving to the cabin, no one called her to check up on her.
Okay I would’ve paid my friend way back home and she would’ve been in my spare bedroom no questions
I genuinely think Sheila’s only real friend was Angela. As much as they tried painting that character as “wild” she actually cared.

I like deep takes like this. That is exactly what was happening.
I agree. Mike was a weight around her neck that was drowning her!
@@HeitCheri Yep, and Mike was dead weight at that.

Sheila wig was not the business. It looked cheap. That is a Tyler Perry signature. The other women had stylist and look kept.
Tyler Perry lacks attention to important details like this in his films. Perhaps it's because he got his start in stage plays where janky wigs weren't a big deal since you never see them up close.
I agree that he always makes those actors wear those struggle wigs. He never likes to spend money.
How Tyler Perry gets away with bad wigs in ATL , the hair capital, is beyond me 😂

This part!
It's 20%
Facts my ex girlfriend was like that. She grew to be attracted to me but she was still self absorbed.
Some people don’t like public displays of affection
I think sherif Troy was the only person that could’ve gave the monologue about what she’s been through. She wasn’t talking to her girls, he was literally the only person watching/witnessing her grow and go through the pain and heart break. He was pretty much her only friend, her therapist, and her witness to it all after the infamous dinner.
True that he did witness it all!
I think Troy had to be straight up with Sheila cuz he's been around her enough to gage how low her self esteem is. Mike broke her down so much that she can't fathom another man, an attractive one at that, is interested in her.
True!
I agree I think that it is normal for a man to build up a woman’s self esteem. Especially, if it’s that low.
She may felt like if she lived with her friends she would rely on them when she wants to do things by herself
Further when it comes to Sheila’s weight, I don’t think Troy had a problem with Sheila’s weight, but Sheila clearly had a problem with her weight.
Love this take! I agree 100%
And also!

Mike blew up everyone's marriage within 5 minutes and Troy was off the clock. I would've left him laying there too. 😂
I'm glad that sheila allowed her heart to open for troy after the abuse and cruelty she suffered at the hands of Mike it's not easy after for some people who have been in an abusive relationship

@ninjanibba4259 true true but I feel like some wounds can only heal in a new safe relationship
I am completely like Shelia when anyone I love ask me if I need help, I always say I'm fine even if I'm sitting in fire. I want everyone to see me as put together to some point so her saying she's okay totally made sense to me
❤️ I understand. It's hard to give ourselves enough grace to feel comfortable enough to be transparent with friends and others. ❤️
She tells them that she has the find her own way. That’s an awesome thing to realize that you spent years depending on a man and other people now you’re doing it yourself.
It is indeed a great thing to find yourself when you've been lost in a dead relationship like Sheila was with Mike!
I honestly prefer the play over the movie.. it’s literally a repeat for me lol
I also think you have to find someone to be vulnerable with as well.
I honestly think most people do that when they are mad at you or think you need humbling .

I think the reason Troy didn’t say anything to Mike at the banquet because he allowed Shelia to have her moment to shut him down and put that final nail in the coffin. That was her mic drop. If things went awry then yes he would’ve stepped in.
I agree. Remember how he let Sheila tell the news of their marriage to her friends? Troy was perfect in this movie from that perspective.
What he said to Sheila wasn't unrealistic, he was pouring his heart out. Let that man be romantic to that lady lmaooo
😂 okay
Victoria groomed Lisa to Worship Carl, in Madea's Family Reunion
Tho, taraji character rebelled her religious background in I Can Do Bad All By Myself...

🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂😂 stooop cause I got that too
I agree to an extent with the point about her having NOT lost the weight but still having her powerful moment, but I have a different perspective on this.
Sheriff Troy is definitely a hero. He definitely treated Shelia like a royal queen from the very beginning.
If I was a man, I would not let Mike anywhere near my friend group ever again
Trina was really lucky that sheila had moved on with her life if it was me she wouldn't be so lucky
She should have knocked the Mario Brothers coins outta Trina right after she clocked Mike! 😆

I think Sheila did the work because Troy gives her encouragement. With Mike, she is negated.
😆 Sheila wasn't trying to work out at that point, but Troy probably convinced her soon after!

To be honest, the sequel of this movie wasn’t even necessary. This movie was more than enough.
It really was. Tyler should have ended it here because the sequel was way over the top!
I definitely agree
The whole thing is really simple. Sheriff Troy got a front row seat to her tragic life. So he empathizes and cares. He doesn't speak because ultimately she has to decide to move forward. Ever heard of the saying be slow to speak and quick to listen. This is probably the first time in a long time someone is just listening and not trying to give advice. As a Christian sometimes the voice of God doesn't come through prayer it comes from someone who just cares.
Or, it's all you and other people as influences

Trina lucky, lol.

It was actually "Getting In the Way" 🤣Jill was quoting her own song. You're getting in the way of what I'm feeling.
It was GOD.

So when she stares at troy's back she is looking at her future and she doesnt care for what's behind her 🤔
You could be right about this!
I hate how Tyler Perry didn't Sheila background story but did other females

Yes, lazy writing.
Sheila was petty for that "dont temp me" and i was here for it 🤣 mike that 20% 🤭🤭
To me Sheila was kind of enabler and that showed on the second one.
Lol@"weaves need to be snatched" 😂 ☠️💀 😆
I also agree that there are parallels with Harper's behavior in The Best Man!
You okay 😢😢❤emghhave❤❤👌🏾 I I I
I have a love/hate relationship with Tyler Perry because he literally rewrites all the classic black movies, but he doesn’t always do a good job of it. I actually liked this movie. I think it is one of his better ones.
This was a great breakdown. Can't wait for the next one!
Yes, he basically remixes stories we've seen before!

I wouldn’t have chased her either, she was gonna kill somebody 😅
😂😂I just assumed it wasn’t emphasis on her friends not “running for or behind her” bc they let her be🤷🏾♀️ she was hurt AF, mad AFFF😂😂 and hit her dusty a$$ hubby in his dome for playing in her face 🙄🥴🤷🏾♀️😂😂 they let her be to figure it out, cry it out, whatever and when she stormed out they did call for her tho and she dipped and I’m assuming they understood it in her moment 🙄 it was messy and overwhelming and most of all she was EMBARRASSED over everything 😬
I wish they gave shelia a better wig for the moment she had her glow up
I love Troy For Shelia he came to save her from being lonely and heart broken 💔💔💔
I feel it was technically she did the work by herself and Tory kind of helped her
I ain't Mike. (That's what I like about Sheriff Troy.)
😁
You can only arrest someone if you’re on duty
😆 He was the Sheriff so he's never really off duty. 😆
Y’all should do diary of a mad black woman next. I love how y’all are breaking these relationships down in these movies in ways that I never thought of.
Thank you!!!
One of my coworkers had it and he definitely got rude comments about taking the easy way out.
I think people generally think weight loss surgery is the easy way out. It's not though...
Weight loss surgery is far rough. Because it only fixes the physical problem not the overeating issue.
I had to come back to watch with my mom..and me and my mother agrees that Mike and Trina would’ve got beat tf up!!!🤷🏽♀️
😂
I think the confrontation or lack of with Shelia and Trina definitely showscases the male and female view (generally). If a woman would have written that scene there would have been a confrontation but since a man wrote it there wasn't because like Heti said what's the point. There really is not point but as woman we need to express that betrayal of the friendship
I sooooo wanted to see Sheila beat the brakes off of Trina! 😂😂😂
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on all of this. Just curious, do you think it's possible that my background might be in psychology as well? 🤔

Mad I didn't get a notification 😑 I been waiting on this 😂❤
Double check that "all notifications" are on. I think the default is that you'll only get some notifications, but not all. Enjoy! 😊

59:28 " WHOOP THAT TRICKA!!!! "
😂😂😂
I was thinking the same thing
🤭😆
Been watching you guys videos for a short while and just realised I was not subscribed smh. Also, I admire how you all could have a difference of opinion and still not over talk one another. 💚
Welcome!! Thanks so much for subscribing. We appreciate you!
troy’s speech @ 35:00 actually was meaningful. & actually, not unrealistic lol. there ARE some men that pour into women that way. i have had the gift of experiencing it- & i NEEDED it when he said it also. it’s not “game,” it’s actual ENCOURAGEMENT. like: “look at YOU. you ARE special, i am clearly attracted to you but also, my attraction doesnt stop at the physical. i want to be there for you & uplift you also.”
everything a guy says doesnt have to be “slick.” in fact, i find it suspicious when a guy has all this “game.” just TALK to me. ♥️
I think you may have misunderstood why we felt this was unrealistic. Indeed it IS because everything a guy says doesn't have to be slick.
@@HeitCheri i guess i was referring to the comment that "a guy would never say this" & also that he had no game so to speak.
57:17 Nah Mike couldn’t show up at the awards banquet. I wouldn’t have anything to say to him.
Yeah it's crazy he showed his face at that banquet like nothing was wrong!
And brought that woman to Patricia’s special night! Mike would have been evicted from the friend’s club!
Sheila doesn't even know how to take care of herself and it seems like she NEEDS male guidance of some sort. Troy is having to tell her how to make decisions about what to do next.
Loving yourself is a lifelong practice in my opinion
I feel like Tyler Perry films are so poor at storytelling! The details that could be explained in a “play” setting, get sort of glossed over in a movie format. Earlier in the video Heit asked certain questions about Sheila that make total sense and normally would be explained but I feel Perry isn’t good at that
The best part of this film for me is Sheila in the bathroom explaining her life to her friends and how God sent her Troy to help her become who she is at that moment. After being with Troy for alittle, let her decide of her own accord to lose weight, not because it was suggested by a man
"Jill Scott almost had me cry with her acting in that scene"
He needs some co-writers. Idk why he doesn’t get help and tries to be this one man band…
He definitely is all about quantity and not quality
@@smilealwaysnatasha3423 having other writers would’ve lead to more ideas and a more fleshed out characters. I feel like the only well written characters in the movie are Angela and Marcus, mainly because they’re the most toxic.
This was a good breakdown. I hope y’all do terry and Diane.
Yep that's next!
That will be a short video. "Terri is selfish. The end." 😂
😆
Yeah, Troy might be spitting a little game, but you're right, it's not malicious because TROY IS A SAINT in this movie. Ya heard! 😂😂😂
@@HeitCheri 😂🤣🤣🤣.. in THIS movie ! 😂😂😂
Sheila definitely hopped from one man to the next. Moved on too quick and still bases her self worth on her relationship status
Agreed. Because what if it ended with Troy....then what??
Shelia definitely wasn't fully healed from Mike.
35:20 NAH, any man would say this. This is light work for any man interested in a woman who went through something with her ex.
Thanks for weighing in Curtis. I love to hear all of there different views on what happened! 😊
Like I said before in the polls. Although Troy was there in uniform he was off duty. He’s not officer Troy exactly he’s more of a friend. So unless it’s an emergency he’s gonna let them do them and just make sure it doesn’t escalate. Ion remember if mike requested she be arrested but if he then theeeeen he would have no choice but to arrest her
But an officer is never off duty when it comes to a crime in progress 😆
Troy was "legally blind" in that moment lol
😂
@@HeitCheri yeah this is true but be honest if you was a cop and you pulled over your mom for speeding. Would you give her a ticket yes or no? Most ppl would not? Officer Troy is not gonna take Sheila in unless he absolutely have to. If mike wanted to file a police report than he would have no choice but to do so.
True
The way** he battered her mentality**
What if sheila decided to jump off that mountainside when he brought her up there… not a smart move
I understood where shelia not wanting help . I’ve been there. Sometime you have do things by your self to grow .
After he did Sheala like that I wouldn't have been cool with him
This part!
🤔 if Troy had a rental property and a store how was he broke in the second movie
Agreed! He really didn't need to make a sequel.
I absolutely love this series of y’all talking about this movie plz keep going all the way to why did I get married 2
The other two couples are up next!
No, Mike is not invited after the dinner.
I always wondered why all the guys were wearing a tux except Mike.
maybe to show how without his helpmate sheila/wife, he didnt even know how to dress properly…??
