Yeah. Not to mention the implied racism the head cheerleader was hurling at Monica. Probably could have thought of a better revenge scheme, but the head cheerleader doesn't deserve sympathy.
I found out about this group when I first heard that K-Pop girl group Wonder Girls were going to star in a Nickelodeon movie with a rival girl group called School Gyrls. Like a lot of K-Pop fans did, I immediately searched up School Gyrls but instead of judging them I was immediately won over when I saw their video for "Something Like A Party." To this day, is probably one of my Top 10 most played songs in my entire music library
yessss I got into kpop and the School Gyrls seperately and then their collab brought it all together, honestly their songs slapped it was just the management.
Wonder girls was my second K-pop act after BoA because I ended up watching “Eat You Up” on MTV somehow and the same thing happened because I watched School Gyrls and Wonder Girls compete in The Wonder Girls Movie. Amazing how this rabbit hole started back in 2009 😂
I loved School Gyrls when I was a kid omg. I still listen to Something Like A Party religiously (I even learned the dance for the contest they were holding all those years ago lol) and sometimes I'll randomly sing the Going to the Mall song from the Christmas movie they did. On a related note, does anyone remember when the K-Pop group Wonder Girls had their own Nick movie (might have gotten plopped onto TeenNick but idr)? I thought it was a fever dream tbh because the day it aired I had practice and couldn't watch it and I think they just never aired it again 💀, but I was relieved when clips of it (mainly the goofy af parts involving their company's founder J. Y. Park - who's currently having another go at US expansion (well after the Wonder Girls attempt didn't exactly work out) with a competition show A2K btw) started going semi-viral on K-Pop spam page Instagram and reaffirmed my memories of its existence 😌 They even have a song with School Gyrls called The DJ Is Mine, a whole Brandy x Monica-type beat haha. Long comment but yeah, just memories and whatnot. Love your videos 🤗
@@twiggledowntown3564 no, it's very much School Gyrls lol just a later lineup - ruclips.net/video/doXnuStEf2I/видео.html The Stunners broke up a year before the song even came out.
To add to your note I remember that the wonder girls were the opening act for the Jonas brothers tour in 2009/2010. Thirteen year old me was not a fan of K-pop at the time,so i wasn’t that interested in the wonder girls.
The Claire girl is played by Jessica Jarrell who was also teen singer at the time. Man I miss that era. The headmistress is also played by the r&b singer Angie Stone. There were so many “famous” people in this movie.
Looking forward to more of these obscure programs, because beforehand it feels like I’m one of the only people who remembers damn near everything that aired of these networks
The school gryls had me in a choke hold when I was little I swear😭and I felt so crushed when they like re booted them especially in the wonder girls movie
I seriously doubt Nickelodeon had any faith in a majority of their made for TV movies (not just this particular one), and I could see why. It's just simply not their M.O., most of what they air are TV shows and it's been like that for years. It's only once in a blue moon that Nick ever even airs movies *at all* on the network
I loved School Gyrls when I was younger, but almost no one has evwr heard of it. I used to listen to their first album on repeat. Looking back though, it's no shock why it failed 😅
I came to share my love for Something Like A Party too! I still listen to it to this day! (call me crazy but I lowkey think it's one of the best pop songs of the 2010s)
Speaking of obscure musical acts, There's a pop rock band called Allstar Weekend that were contestants for Radio Disney's N.B.T., Performed on an episode of Sunny with a Chance, and just dipped. They had a solid fanbase, and some good songs, but I haven't seen or heard anyone mention them.
I think they disbanded and renamed or something. It was hard for them to be taken seriously due to the minor Disney affiliation when it came to them entering the pop punk genre / scene.
@@jadered9514 Being familiar with pop punk, I find that hard to believe. This is the same genre where bands like simple plan have been on Nickelodeon and bands like blink-182 write songs with dick joke lyrics.
@@ButterclawEnthusiast they got so much shit for being on warped tour and being included on the punk goes pop album like I’m just saying what trends I noticed. Those bands were established away from those kinds of networks prior so it wasn’t like they were coming into recognition completely from a network. All star weekend was legit 100% a radio Disney band and they got popular for that. They didn’t really have like a solid fan base before being on that contest show. They remind me of a junior all time low so it’s a shame they couldn’t make it bigger
@@jadered9514 man that's wacky as hell. Poor guys. I would've loved to see them grow more in that space. Honestly I like allstar weekend more than all time low. They come off as wholesome, almost youth group type guys who just wanna make some fun, upbeat music. Meanwhile all time low is a bunch of corny dudes who have their audience throw bras at them when they play live. (No offense if you like ATL though, I used to)
School Gyrls has a sequel called “A Very School Gyrls Holla-Day” It was a Christmas special that introduced 2 new members. I saw School Gyrls as it aired but missed out on the Christmas special so for awhile I thought I imagined the 2nd movie until I googled it
Monica is a successful choreographer and a college graduate & married. Amanda is a well known radio host on siriusXM and is expecting a child Jacque is a college graduate and is a influencer. So they didn’t fail at life but I mean what else came on tv back in 2008
i’m so glad you made this video. no one ever remembers this when i talk about it, even the person who made me watch it in the first place. i honestly began to think i dreamt it for a few years until i rewatched the wonder girls video for the DJ is mine and saw the school gyrls there 😭 EDIT: Mandy and Jacque are NOT in the music video at all😭 apparently the group line up changed a few times, and by the time they collabed with the wonder girls the only members featured were Monica, and two newer* members Natalie and Briana
You probably missed out on School Gyrls because Nick Cannon was the host of TeenNick at the time and since this was his project all of the ads and promotion went to the TeenNick channel, not the main Nick channel. Like TeenNick made the School Gyrls seem like a bigger deal than they were to my kid brain. It's the same with the movie they made for the kpop group Wonder Girls, most of the promo was on TeenNick instead of the main Nick channel.
So one of the schoolmaster's children and H.E.R. are the same person??? What??? I'd give this a 3/10 at best. In hindsight, it was a bit cringe, yet at some spots it was emotionally traumatic.
One of the worst movies, but one of your best videos. It felt really cool that your review was like your first impression instead of something you already knew more about
I'd take this 10× over the new Kim possible movie, monster high movie, the entire after series, the 365 days series, cuties, the 50 shades series, most Noah centineo movies, the kissing both series, that disrespectfullly terrible Netflix Winx show and any of the terrible cartoon network remakes.
omg I used to love them and had a crush on the blonde one. them being a movie with the kpop group the wonder girls is still the weirdest crossover to me. something about him will always be on my playlist.
This movie is probably one of the worst examples of somebody’s parent trying to make something “cool for the kids”. It tries so hard to do that, but in the most cringeworthy way possible. All tho their song Something Like a Party is an absolute bop.
The impact this movie had on my life when it came out was something I still think about. I was sick when it came out and all my friends formed parasocial identities about it whilst I was gone, lmao ruined my friend group and effected the rest of my elementary school year experience lol.
My parents never had cable so I wasn't an avid Nickelodeon/Disney watcher, but funny enough, I found out about School Gyrls through spotify. Their song "Detention" was just so fun to listen to and very reminiscent of the time they debuted. I was so sad they only had a couple songs out because I genuinely loved their sound.
I always thought school gyrls was a bigger event when I was a kid I was obsessed and then I grew up and found no one ever knows what I’m talking about 😭
Nah you really are Mr Nostalgia cus I deleted so many things from my memory and you brought them back. I never even HEARD of School Gyrls cus I was more of a Disney girly I recognized quality from YOUNG 💅🏽 but this movie is a hot mess not even you remember that. I just feel like Nick was always subpar to Disney. Side note when did they ever air Drumline on that Nickelodeon ? Nick Cannon really was tryna carry that whole channel on his back 😭😭😭
there was this show on teen nick and it was kind of like bad girls club but the clean version it was called queen bees it had one season it was a mess and there was this other show i believe was on there to it was called miracles boys and it was also cancelled after 1 season but i liked it very underrated but i miss when teen nick had its own shows like degrassi and teen nick top 10 and a bunch of teen drama shows and now its just channel where they show re runs all day its pretty sad
I love a flop music act (to the point where I can name several Kristinia Debarge songs) and even I had never heard of this group. What a fail on Nick and Nickelodeon’s part.
I had a younger friend who loved this, and I hadn't ever seen it at the time. But I cannot deny that Something Like a Party absolutely fucking SLAPS and I still listen to it to this day.
This movie is HOT GARBAGE! I vaguely remember hearing about it when I was younger but never watched it at the time... I already knew from the title and the way the 3 of them looked it was gonna only be downhill from there. Especially Jacque/her character...like the whole time I was yelling the same things about all of them, like, "Why are they talking/moving/looking like that?" Were they told, "Say it more URBAN!" (Black), or something? It's BEYOND PAINFUL. the mean girl was annoying too, but still... I'm mostly shocked about Angie Stone in this movie, she can do so much better 😭 like I saw her and was almost hurt also since you mentioned at the end, Empressive has a video on OMG Girlz, and Black Femininity TV has one about Scooter Smiff and Myles Brown, and Mindless Behavior
I really want to see you do a video about Supah Ninjas or The Troop, they're some of my favorite forgotten Nick sitcoms. Both are very underappreciated
omg you have to talk about Make it Pop its weirdly similar to this. Like it's also made by Nick Cannon and about 3 girls at a boarding school forming a music group
Holy shit I completely forgot about this movie but as soon as you showed the trailer for the movie I instantly remembered it 😭💕 I also remember loving Angus, Thongs, and Perfect Snogging so much that I bought the movie for my iPod nano 😂
i only know who these girls are thanks to that awful nickelodeon wonder girls movie where they are racist to the wonder girls and then at the end the asian member says "hey guys let's be nice to them, don't forget i'm filipino 💁🏻♀️" lol
I remember when nickelodeon (specifically teen nick) had that era where Nick Cannon was just EVERYWHERE. My sisters and I watched the premiere of the movie and the christmas “holla-day” special but then after that, I don’t think they ever replayed then as much to the point where I thought I imagined the whole thing. School Gyrls was fun at the time, def nothing groundbreaking, but they had the potential to be something great imo.
The name School Gyrls was vaguely familiar to me and I could not think of why. I remembered they were in this Kpop video called the "The DJ is Mine" by the Wonder Girls. The song is still a banger. I honestly had no idea where they came from and only knew they had something to do with Nick Cannon. Honestly thank you for the video
There was also a Christmas special, and Nick Cannon produced a movie for the Kpop group Wonder Girls which featured the School Gyrls as their rivals. Admittedly, the Wonder Girls movie had their best music. There were also some line up changes. The group added rapper Sade and a singer, Lauren for the Christmas movie. Nick Cannon tried to push them as a legitimate music group for a bit, but Mandy and Jacqui left and were replaced by Natalie and Rae. The Wonder Girls movie was their last chance for relevance, but it failed. Rae left the group, leaving them as a quartet. They tried to rebrand as "4ever," but they broke up before any music was released with their new name.
I straight up might rewrite this movie one day, because imagine if the school was still very strict to the point of stifling people's creativity, but similar to the Ariel's Beginning movie, there's an underground club kind of thing where people can perform and stuff, and that's where the stunt party/talent show is held every year. And then Bambi, who apparently has an issue with her boyfriend being a musician, goes out of her way to get the stunt party and the club shut down, so now, the School Gyrls decide they're going to do something so the party can still happen, whether that be finding a new venue, getting the students who want to be able to express themselves to protest against the school in some way, or really anything else. Idk, there's ways you can go with this story that I think would be fun to work with.
I had completely forgot about this movie until this very video. Although I actually liked the songs and thought Mandy was cute (we were the same age, turns out), I think I completely suppressed this memory and forgot about it forever because as a guy at that age it wasn't the cool thing to watch. Watching this video just hit me with a wave of nostalgia that I never expected to remember again.
So since no one’s mentioning it, I guess I will… The biggest fail of this movie is that it was marketed for an urban audience (clearly) yet didn’t have a black girl in the group. They were trying way too hard to be Cheetah girls. Especially with the group name in the sky as the fireworks at the end of the movie. I remember when this came out and hated it at the time 😝
I loved the School Gyrls. I saw them perform at a mall and met Nick Canon. Then they started adding random girls that did not fit the vibe. Then they changed their name and style which annoyed me and I lost interest Edit: if you into my channel, I have a video of the school gyrls performing the day I saw them. It’s old and an awful angle but it’s there lol
It used to drive me CRAZY how the black girls in this movie were presented vs these three nonblack girls using AAVE and rolling their necks like that🙄🙄🙄
if i remember correctly they also had a christmas movie i was obsessed with as a kid and they also made an appearance in another nick movie starring the wonder girls
I still listen to school girls today and definitely feel like only a select few remember them lol. I remember staying up late just to catch the movies twice cause it legit never played again
Nickelodeon tried their hardest to match Disney Channel’s success with their actors making music. But if you got Nick Cannon at the helm of your group, they were just bound to fail, shoutout to Ariana Grande though.
i loved school gyrls when i was in middle school omg. their song party bag was always playing on my mp3 player. and their movie crossover with the wonder girls was also one of my first exposures to kpop before i even knew what kpop was lol
I remember seeing them at the Crenshaw mall doing a Christmas music video in the middle of the summer when I was 12. I thought it was so weird they chose to film at a hood mall
Mad Style was a thing! I forgot about that even though my childhood was Wal-Mart. Damn, it’s amazing the stuff your memory can unlock with a little jog.
Commenting this before watching the video: if I had a nickel for every time a Nickelodeon network movie from the early 2010s gets talked about as a topic of discussion for a whole video by only one RUclipsr until you did in the year 2023, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice, right? Editing between sentences: here's that video. She talks about the movies but only as marketing tools for the group. She goes more into depth about what happened behind the scenes and where all of the "Gyrls" are now. ruclips.net/video/w-HJbMF4Czw/видео.html Even at 14-15, this was the first musical where the script was so cringe, I fought to keep watching until the songs came on. Mr. Cannon spent the whole movie in drag, I think. And I remember being baffled they had Justin Bieber in this when he was only just starting to become an A-lister! And they even had a Christmas special? But I remember nothing about it.

To this day, is probably one of my Top 10 most played songs in my entire music library
yessss I got into kpop and the School Gyrls seperately and then their collab brought it all together, honestly their songs slapped it was just the management.
"Something Like A Party" is an absolute bop 💖
I remember being so fucking HYPE about the movie and I loved it. It’s been so long since I’ve even thought about it omg
Wonder girls was my second K-pop act after BoA because I ended up watching “Eat You Up” on MTV somehow and the same thing happened because I watched School Gyrls and Wonder Girls compete in The Wonder Girls Movie. Amazing how this rabbit hole started back in 2009 😂
Iconic
The "now that's DANCING" scene if the most hilarious thing I've seen in quite some time. Who edited that? Why did they do what they did? I love it.
she was like semi crumping 😭😭
The mindless behavior background music is deeply appreciated
School Gyrls walked so Lemonade Mouth could run
The Dj is Mine was with The Stunners by the way.
@@twiggledowntown3564 no, it's very much School Gyrls lol just a later lineup - ruclips.net/video/doXnuStEf2I/видео.html
The Stunners broke up a year before the song even came out.
Embarrassed to admit that I still listen to Something like a Party religiously lol
@@izzyd7710 My bad, you were right, I just looked it up.
What a deep cut memory. A group I forgot I remembered
Same randomly. I got this as a recommendation from youtube, and when I saw the thumbnail, I was like, "This looks so familiar
Looking forward to more of these obscure programs, because beforehand it feels like I’m one of the only people who remembers damn near everything that aired of these networks
The school gryls had me in a choke hold when I was little I swear😭and I felt so crushed when they like re booted them especially in the wonder girls movie
SAMEEEEEE
I seriously doubt Nickelodeon had any faith in a majority of their made for TV movies (not just this particular one), and I could see why. It's just simply not their M.O., most of what they air are TV shows and it's been like that for years. It's only once in a blue moon that Nick ever even airs movies *at all* on the network
I loved School Gyrls when I was younger, but almost no one has evwr heard of it. I used to listen to their first album on repeat. Looking back though, it's no shock why it failed 😅
I actually watched them in 2010 😂😂😂 Something Like A Party was a banger
I came to share my love for Something Like A Party too! I still listen to it to this day! (call me crazy but I lowkey think it's one of the best pop songs of the 2010s)
@@izzyd7710 Shit you couldn't watch TeenNick without them playing it during the commercials or after the show
@@coreypayne1208Nick Cannon was chairman of TeenNick for a while, he was definitely pushing them over there
@@izzyd7710it is indeed a masterpiece and i’ve found my people because i still bump it too
@@izzyd7710they had mariah on this album too lol obv cuz of nick cannon
Speaking of obscure musical acts, There's a pop rock band called Allstar Weekend that were contestants for Radio Disney's N.B.T., Performed on an episode of Sunny with a Chance, and just dipped. They had a solid fanbase, and some good songs, but I haven't seen or heard anyone mention them.
I looked them up a couple months ago and I think one of them is married now
I think they disbanded and renamed or something.
I saw School Gyrls as it aired but missed out on the Christmas special so for awhile I thought I imagined the 2nd movie until I googled it
I saw it…there wasn’t too much to miss to be honest 😬😬🫨
But the soundtrack was good tho ngl
gonna apply to be a babysitter for one of nick cannons kids so i can ask him why he wrote the black characters like that💀
when school gyrls hit my elementary school friend group was obsessed!!! we learned the dance, the songs, everyone picked a member 😂😂 good times
Monica is a successful choreographer and a college graduate & married.
Amanda is a well known radio host on siriusXM and is expecting a child
Jacque is a college graduate and is a influencer. So they didn’t fail at life but I mean what else came on tv back in 2008
i’m so glad you made this video. no one ever remembers this when i talk about it, even the person who made me watch it in the first place. i honestly began to think i dreamt it for a few years until i rewatched the wonder girls video for the DJ is mine and saw the school gyrls there 😭
EDIT: Mandy and Jacque are NOT in the music video at all😭 apparently the group line up changed a few times, and by the time they collabed with the wonder girls the only members featured were Monica, and two newer* members Natalie and Briana
At least they somewhat succeeded with Make it pop years later. I was super obsessed with it, but have never heard of this…
You probably missed out on School Gyrls because Nick Cannon was the host of TeenNick at the time and since this was his project all of the ads and promotion went to the TeenNick channel, not the main Nick channel. Like TeenNick made the School Gyrls seem like a bigger deal than they were to my kid brain. It's the same with the movie they made for the kpop group Wonder Girls, most of the promo was on TeenNick instead of the main Nick channel.
Why did youtube think the 1976 movie Carrie made sense to promote under this video lmao
FINALLY someone makes a video on this. I swear no one ever knows these movies!!
So one of the schoolmaster's children and H.E.R. are the same person??? What???
I'd give this a 3/10 at best. In hindsight, it was a bit cringe, yet at some spots it was emotionally traumatic.
One of the worst movies, but one of your best videos. It felt really cool that your review was like your first impression instead of something you already knew more about
Thanks!
I remember random shows Nick used to re-run a lot on the channel like House of Anubis and Every Witch Way.
Those were my favorite telenovela's they've aired. The mediocre acting with the awkward camera angles is perfection
those shows were actually popular though
i loved every witch way omg i was obsesseddddd
I loved house of Anubis
Every Witch Way was my entire life when I was younger XD
“I’m not just a girl” was my ringtone FOREVER and I don’t even remember liking this movie
omg no one ever remembers them when i bring them up 😭 they still got bops too!
omg I used to love them and had a crush on the blonde one. them being a movie with the kpop group the wonder girls is still the weirdest crossover to me. something about him will always be on my playlist.
I always thought school gyrls was a bigger event when I was a kid I was obsessed and then I grew up and found no one ever knows what I’m talking about 😭
And then Disney quickly came out with Lemonade Mouth which probably also erased this from collective memory
You woke up a deeeeeeppppp memory today. The black creepy shinning twins did it all at once 😂
I'm not convinced that's not Whoa Vicky in a past life.
I'm mostly shocked about Angie Stone in this movie, she can do so much better 😭 like I saw her and was almost hurt
also since you mentioned at the end, Empressive has a video on OMG Girlz, and Black Femininity TV has one about Scooter Smiff and Myles Brown, and Mindless Behavior
I really want to see you do a video about Supah Ninjas or The Troop, they're some of my favorite forgotten Nick sitcoms. Both are very underappreciated
Bruh the Troop was 🔥
supah ninjas had me in a chokehold
omg you have to talk about Make it Pop its weirdly similar to this. Like it's also made by Nick Cannon and about 3 girls at a boarding school forming a music group
Never heard of this movie but I’m glad someone talked about how weird Nick movies can get.
Holy shit I completely forgot about this movie but as soon as you showed the trailer for the movie I instantly remembered it 😭💕 I also remember loving Angus, Thongs, and Perfect Snogging so much that I bought the movie for my iPod nano 😂
As someone who has never seen or heard about this movie before, the line “leave like your father did” is insane for something aimed towards kids 💀
i only know who these girls are thanks to that awful nickelodeon wonder girls movie where they are racist to the wonder girls and then at the end the asian member says "hey guys let's be nice to them, don't forget i'm filipino 💁🏻♀️" lol
I always forget how good your intro is.
"Jackie is more or less a hot Cheeto girl" 💀💀💀
There's nothing more late 2000's than spelling Girls with a Y
Also 18:29 EwwTube has Vidoes instead of Videos
I wanted to be these girls so bad, they had really high potential, the movie itself is pure nostalgia I had to click this video so fast lol
Tell me im not the only one that thought Jackie was woah Vicky 🤣😭
Nickelodeon now has another girl group in the Good NEWZ Girls, which they formed in late 2021.
Mr.5 thousand children 💀💀💀
Nickelodeon's 'Make It Pop' >>> the forgettable 'School Gyrls'.
I remember when this came out and hated it at the time 😝
There actually was a black girl in the group. The sequel anyways. I loved this movie.
I loved the School Gyrls. I saw them perform at a mall and met Nick Canon. Then they started adding random girls that did not fit the vibe. Then they changed their name and style which annoyed me and I lost interest
Edit: if you into my channel, I have a video of the school gyrls performing the day I saw them. It’s old and an awful angle but it’s there lol
H.E.R.?!!!!
The best thing about this movie is the “no farting” rule I saw at 15:25
I’d get expelled on my first day
It used to drive me CRAZY how the black girls in this movie were presented vs these three nonblack girls using AAVE and rolling their necks like that🙄🙄🙄
for real
if i remember correctly they also had a christmas movie i was obsessed with as a kid and they also made an appearance in another nick movie starring the wonder girls
Probably cheaper and less people
This man said does anyone remember anges thongs and perfect snogging like its not iconic and didn't introduce use to Aaron Taylor Johnson
i was obsessed as a kid but honestly nickelodeon flopping with this is what they get for making an r&b group with no black ppl 💀
It would have been popular if they could have gotten Keke Palmer a big name in the group
Mad Style was a thing! I forgot about that even though my childhood was Wal-Mart. Damn, it’s amazing the stuff your memory can unlock with a little jog.
I actually remember School Gyrls so it is bold of you to assume that I would forget Angus, Thongs, and Perfect Snogging. Ultraviolet is still a bop.
She goes more into depth about what happened behind the scenes and where all of the "Gyrls" are now. ruclips.net/video/w-HJbMF4Czw/видео.html
Even at 14-15, this was the first musical where the script was so cringe, I fought to keep watching until the songs came on. Mr. Cannon spent the whole movie in drag, I think. And I remember being baffled they had Justin Bieber in this when he was only just starting to become an A-lister! And they even had a Christmas special? But I remember nothing about it.
Thank you so much for this upload! I've been waiting for this! You should do a video about Dance On Sunset soon.
Can you please review The Naked Brothers Band? For such a long time I thought it was a show I made up in my head as a child 😅
it’s 2023 and i’m shocked so many ppl don’t know them, they had a song w mariah on vocals 😭😭 underrated and all of their songs are still so good
23:35 I used to listen to music through the Music Choice channels all the time so yes, I remember Kidz Only 😂
16:55 the way you said “she ain’t got no money” killed me 😂 idk why
