Michael reminds me of the “ugly” guy who know he has nothing to offer outside of money. So, they lead with that. They play nice in the beginning and once they “get you” they show their true characters. They tend to suck. Bc they have money, they don’t work towards being likable or anything. 😭😭

Robyn entertained the idea of Michael mostly bc she wasn’t getting any attention from Russell. She had time to divert her affection elsewhere during the time between phone calls with Russell and it was likely bc of her torn heart Michael got tired of competing with a man who clearly had an advantage. I don’t think it was the power move that did them in at work. I think it was Michael’s realization Robyn really didn’t want him that she was settling for him that made him call her out ion her bull. Bc she didn’t want to face her own truth she decided to dump him. But later we see her still miffed by the whole thing when Michael shows up at the club with a new girlfriend in tow. To add insult the girl is just as pretty if not more than she is. It’s not that Michael can’t pull beautiful women. Clearly he can. She just mad that she played herself chasing after that white rabbit 🐇

Honestly, I think that Michael was just being about his business when they were in the business meeting, I don't think that his motives were ill. He was simply separating business from pleasure.
I would say Russell travels for his work. Before Robin moved to Phoenix, they were able to be together more openly in the day time in Robin's home town. Once Robin moved to Phoenix which is Russells home town, they couldnt go out and spend time during the day anymore, so they broke up, but they are still seeing each other on the low, at night. It's Russells baby, we have to keep in mind that a year is taking place so it has probably been a few months since she was with Michael.
@1:35:15 I think Robyn’s sudden change in attitude towards Russell, is her deciding for herself that she can do better. She decided to make a different choice and have THIS baby. She seemed to be fed up with going through the shenanigans with Russell. It seems she’s heard all these lies before, that’s why she was unfazed about him saying he finally got that B off his back. 🙄 Ninja please. She is trying to lift herself out of a toxic pattern IMO. As for Robin telling her story to Savannah of how she got pregnant and then had an abortion, you have to remember that Savannah is new to the friend group. She only knew Bernadine when she came to Phoenix. Also, Michael didn't take off the condom. I don't believe Robin would have been that dim. He threw away the wrapper. Interesting side note about Robin's baby...in the book, Michael, who presumably still had feelings for her, volunteered to be there for her and the kid.
We looked at that clip many times... Michael took off the condom. If you watch the scene you'll see him first throw away the wrapper and then after he supposedly puts it on, he tosses it over his shoulder. Go back and watch that closely.
In the second book, Robin and Michael reconnected and got engaged. Michael also lost weight. The baby was Russell's. She had a daughter who she named Sparrow. Sparrow is a teenager in Getting to Happy.
I had a love hate relationship with Robin because she was ultimately looking for love but what she needed was therapy 1st and to learn herself then become someone's partner. U can't be a good wife and mother if ur not a while person BEFORE becoming 1/2 of something else. I learned that the hard way and am still learning it
I love Robyn and could relate to her the most. I loved 🥰 her dressing in this movie and to this day, I wear midriff shirts with a blazer. Everyone compliments me all the time and I reference this movie. The fact that she’s climbing the corporate ladder, living on her own and standing up for her girls always was a positive for me. Robyn faked it in all her men relationships. She wasn’t ok with the drugs, the wife or the fact that dude lied to her about what he does and even tried to hit it raw but she was lonely. I’ve def been there. You try to build someone into what you want them to be even though they’re showing you otherwise. So you listen to their words and not their actions. She would rather fake it instead of facing the truth. She wants a normal simple life so she tries to create it with liars.
Not all side chicks want to become a wife to the man they're cheating with. Hell, they know that he's a cheater and they know all of his tricks. Somehow Robin is desperate to be in a relationship but keeps going after unavailable men. Subconsciously, I don't believe that she wanted to be a wife. Back then , it was still a goal for women along with being successful in their careers. My bestie and I, both married twice, often discuss how we feel that we fell into that trap. In a sense, she was like Robin. She has been a runaway bride 3 times! So why accept the engagement? It's kind of the same thing except my friend was not EMOTIONALLY available.

However, these days, I've noticed that a lot of younger women thinking that the side chick is the route to becoming a wife, when we know that statistically speaking, it's not. I also agree that becoming a wife was part of the cultural dream goal that was pushed upon women moreso back then than now.
It seems like these younger women just want to be a baby mama or a side chick that's treated like a wife which is a freaking dream. They talk about marriage like it's a curse . I believe Michael Flipped the script too. But, according to someone who read the book, Michael came back to her to offer to help her with her baby. So the movie showed him in only one way.
It’s Russell, it’s not rocket science. That’s why they didn’t say his backstory or her motivation so it comes out as a surprise when telling her friend her story. Also it shows her clarity and sadness with her original choice in getting and abortion but now she’s gunna keep it.
Cheri, I loved that white dress too! Troy was the most hilarious character in the movie. I love the Romeo and Juliet balcony scene between them. That's my favorite part of the movie. I also agree that Robyn had issues with self-worth.
I do believe Robin’s story was completely different from her situation with Russell. She’s basically inside of a destructive mindset of falling for the same situation and needed therapy

I think that Michael was always using Robin to make it to the top and because he was a big man Robin underestimated him. I believe he may have succeeded as well and it just wasn't shown in the movie because when Robin saw him at the club with another woman he seemed very confident then before. Maybe he was always that person and it was Robin who was being played the entire time 🤷🏾♀️
Robin never was shown any type of love growing up. She was always disappointed throughout childhood, and this is where low self-esteem comes in. Most likely, her father wasn't around or she didn't have a father figure, so she is searching for love in men. With low self-esteem, it comes with many sex partners. She's searching for love. Russell was probably the 1st person who showed her any type of love and/or affection, so that's why she's stuck on him. There are a lot of Robins in the Black community
And although she's with those other guys, her heart belongs to Russell. She loves them. Those others are something to do while she waits for Russell to chose her
They mentioned that Robin was an Army brat so that makes me think that she probably came from an in tact family, even if her father was away serving at times (assuming it was her father in the Army). It would be interesting to know more about her childhood though.

In the book sequel Getting to Happy she ends up marrying Michael years later. Michael is not her child's father Russell is but Michael became the man that she desired in the end. She ended up keeping the child and named her Sparrow
So Robyn made Michael wear a condom but she slept with Russell without a condom. I feel Robyn felt like no one would want Michael so he might be a safe choice.
Robyn can't call Russell her man amongst her friend who going through a divorce from a cheating husband. 😅. She also is big on image. So she's the fighter amongst the friend group. Admitting her dynamic & feelings with Russell would change get place in the dynamic of the friend group.. also notice she tells savannah more than the other ladies. Doward, I think Robin was ready to take her aggression out on everyone BUT Russell. I think she'd never call his wife because she wouldn't want Russell to stop seeing her. The only time we saw her push back with Russell was after he promised to leave his wife and he came back and she realized that he slept with her. Meanwhile, she was happy to call Bernie's husband's side chick and prank on the phone! LOL
I think Robin wants the best of both worlds. She wants that wife perfect domestic living lifestyle yet she wants with very specific types of men who dont fit that fantasy. So when Michael says he can give thay to her she's momentarily excited but he's not the type of man she sees in that picture with her. Troy and Russell are more those type of men that shes attracted to but Troy is a bust because he's TOO much into the party scene and would likely never settle down fr with her. This is why we have Russell, who to her is the perfect match because he's cool lile Troy but he IS the type to get married (we know this for sure because he already is) so she's so determined to get everything she wants that she settles to wait for Russell to make HER the wife.

I agree. Robin wanted love so bad, mainly love from Russell but she accepted the breadcrumbs from him believing one day she was gonna get a loaf, maybe even a slice. She looked forward to him being with her and him staying and while he was gone she probably cried and thought about this situation and finding out she was pregnant again, she found strength to stop this cycle because she has to worry about her baby now. That's what I got from it anyway. 😊
Oh my God Russells is a grown ass man. He made his own choices. Nobody forced him. I never saw her put a gun to his head and say you need to leave your wife she never hit him in the head with a baseball bat. He made choices after stringing her along for so many years. And by the time she’s pregnant she’s wanting to take care of her child and get her shit together so the last thing they need is this man in their lives.

Hey!!! Thanks so much for watching! I think you're right that I'm hard on Robin. As a woman, I made plenty of mistakes in my youth and I was hard on myself for them. I've known Robins too. My main criticism of Robin is that she wasn't doing what she needed to do to get what she said she wanted. Not even judging her desires, but rather that her words and actions didn't line up for the best outcome for herself.
When she said fired she means she quit him, and how he get over her so quick when he was talking about marriage. That is what she meant. So when he was trying to be smart at work that was because Robin had already quit him. What I just thought about is the fact that the other girls knew who Michael was indicating that they dated well enough for Robin to introduce Michael to the girls.
In the book, they do narrate their own stories. Also, the movie does Robin no real justice. In the book, she's a bit ditzy, but she also has lots of responsibilities. She was helping to care for her aging parents, not the least of whom was her father who had severe dementia. I also think your take on her fashion choices is interesting. Comparing it to your assessment of the clothing worn by Bernadine's lawyer, some might say--especially in light of issues black women often have in the corporate world--that her African attire would be considered "inappropriate."

I saw him open the condom wrapper with his teeth throw that little piece of the condom wrapper down put the condom on and throw the rest of the condom wrapper on floor. I looked through the comments to see if anyone else had said this first before I made my comment. I watched then re-watched and re-watched again and again and all I see is the same as you @Erika Harris it looks like he tore off the top piece of the wrapper and threw it to the side. Then with the condom still inside the rest of the wrapper he laid down and underneath the covers he took the condom out of the wrapper, put the condom on then tossed the remaining piece of the wrapper over his shoulder as he proceeded to get back on top of Robin.
Keep in mind when it came to their height most of them accept Loretta Devine were wearing 👠 on this film which gave them that extra height. So I say they average height was 5’5 and 5’7 without the 👠. The shortest on this film was Angela Bassett. As far as Robin talking to herself on this film they call that what scientists do on film they analyze what it is they are thinking. A lot of mothers do this too when they clean they talk to themselves out loud.

I do think she would've worked it out for the best..Makes me think about when Toni had a baby on Girlfriends & what it took for that Character to adapt to being a Mom & having to consider another beings needs and desires over her own..

They are really only 'selfless' as a Means to an end.. Like Robyn dogging Michael knowing she ain't want him in the first place. Not to mention, wanting and expecting someone to abandon their family for Her(& therefore willing to 'selflessly' shrink & degrade herself for it' ..... 🤡🤡🤡.. selfish.. And i feel like. A part of her motivation to cutting him off from the kid, is her passive aggressively punishing herself.. In the sequel book, Getting to Happy, Michael had a glow up. He wasn't the unattractive guy anymore. He lost weight, became even more successful, gotten married and divorced, and had kids. He and Robin reconnected and got engaged. Robin had a daughter who she named Sparrow. Sparrow is a teenager in the second book. It was Russell's baby not Michael's baby. Russell wasn't married to his wife and he wasn't the same Russell that Robin always knew him to be. He wasn't sexy and desirable like he once was. Russell went through some things since the first book. Getting to Happy was set in 2005, 15 years later. Robin still kept herself up. I wish we never would have lost Whitney Houston. The film adaptation to Getting to Happy would have been good and all of the ladies was on board. Whitney was excited about doing the sequel. The cast was on Oprah to promote the movie. Lela Rochon said that the scene with Wendall Pierce took two days to shoot. If Michael did went in raw, who's to say that was when she got pregnant especially if she was on her menstrual. Now, a woman can pregnant while on her period. It's not unlikely, but I think she got pregnant after whole Michael situation. Russell was never completely out of the picture even when she was dealing with Troy. Robin broke it off with Michael personally and fired him on the job.

Robin was speaking to her dog in the opening scene. There was one point in the scene where she actually looks the dog in the face and it's speaking to him and there's a camera cut to the dog looking and reacting to her when she's going to get ice cream and cookies out of the refrigerator if I'm not mistaken

While she was becoming impatient with Russell I think in her mind she was like well forget Russell I’m going to move on with such and such until she heard Russell’s voice over that phone Lmaooooooooo she was impregnated by Russell twice but decided to keep the other baby! Robyn came to her senses and said he’s never going to leave his wife…. I love Robyn, although she was all over the place she was deep lol.

The movie (and book) ends before we see what he does.
We watched the film as we mentioned the part about the condom. Agreed about the "taking" of a husband or wife. Not sure why you think that we'd disagree with this. Obviously the person has to want to go. Nevertheless, there is a responsibility that each of the people cheating has toward the damage to the other people's relationship. Nobody was letting Russell off the hook, but Robin's role is not without responsibility. The side chick is not innocent simply because the man knows he's married. She knows it too. He was looking to do wrong, and she made herself available. He told her himself that she was not in a position to dictate to him what he did with his wife, whether it is intimacy or divorce. Robin's portion of wrongdoing is making herself available to and prioritizing a man who treated her as an option. As far as I can remember ,(I'm including the book in my recollection, but it's been at least two decades since I read it) he had at least two options. Both of them should have had enough respect and love for themselves to remove themselves from the situation, but we didn't see that until the end.

No, I think that Michael was a good guy and you can feel when women are faking it or being fake, and that hurt his feelings, and she clearly slighted him and didn’t care about his feelings and made him feel less than even though he could be a great guy from what DeSean he was a good guy. I stumbled upon your channel, and I am subscribing! I love the analysis and dialogue. When you spoke on the dynamics of Robin and Michael's financial situation the book goes into more details. Yes, I know you are going by what the movie is showing but, in the book, Robin was shown not to have very great money management skills and was running up her cards and trying to keep up with the payments of her student loans. Thus, she was renting and struggling a bit financially. Michael on the other hand.... (Not mentioned too much in the book) seem to have a better grasp of his finances, thus, enabling him to own a house in an affluent neighborhood, a boat, cars, etc. I just hope he was not overextending himself to make himself more attractive in what he has rather than being confident in the type of man he is. In reference to the poolside conversation, in the context of the side chick, Robin had a whole relationship in her POV while Russell was just moving between two women or more. She may believe she was in a relationship and the dynamics of her relationship were established as her having to do her thing while waiting for Russell to pay attention to her again. Russell only saw her apparently when he wasn’t cool with his wife. They fought and he always goes to see Robin. She being the girl on the side wants to be to main girl but knows this probably won’t happen bc Russell is reluctant to leave. She eventually settles in the fact she wasn’t have him but only after the love she wanted from Russell is replaced by a baby

I always thought Michael was lying about what he had. Dude looks like a "square," and I always thought that he uses these "material possessions" to try to get some poon-poon. From what I understand it sounds like Robyn suffers from Attachment Issues which is why is entering all these situationships, she mentions in a voiceover about being a Army Brat so, I’m assuming she moved around a lot and, didn’t have to best relationship with her Dad with him being in the Military, hence all the situationships The fantasy she told Michael was probably based on the lack of stability she had growing up, she described it like a fairy tale which also highlights Robyn’s immaturity however, her story ends with her growth and independence, One thing I do love about her character is that she owns her sexuality granted it might not be a healthy way of doing things but, she’s basically doing what men have been doing for years right ? 🤷🏿♀️

I would say Russell travels for his work. Before Robin moved to Phoenix, they were able to be together more openly in the day time in Robin's home town. Once Robin moved to Phoenix which is Russells home town, they couldnt go out and spend time during the day anymore, so they broke up, but they are still seeing each other on the low, at night. It's Russells baby, we have to keep in mind that a year is taking place so it has probably been a few months since she was with Michael.

As for Robin telling her story to Savannah of how she got pregnant and then had an abortion, you have to remember that Savannah is new to the friend group. Interesting side note about Robin's baby...in the book, Michael, who presumably still had feelings for her, volunteered to be there for her and the kid.
We looked at that clip many times... Michael took off the condom. If you watch the scene you'll see him first throw away the wrapper and then after he supposedly puts it on, he tosses it over his shoulder. Go back and watch that closely.
In the second book, Robin and Michael reconnected and got engaged. Michael also lost weight. The baby was Russell's. She had a daughter who she named Sparrow. Sparrow is a teenager in Getting to Happy.

I love Robyn and could relate to her the most. I loved 🥰 her dressing in this movie and to this day, I wear midriff shirts with a blazer. Everyone compliments me all the time and I reference this movie. The fact that she’s climbing the corporate ladder, living on her own and standing up for her girls always was a positive for me.
Robyn faked it in all her men relationships. She wasn’t ok with the drugs, the wife or the fact that dude lied to her about what he does and even tried to hit it raw but she was lonely. I’ve def been there. You try to build someone into what you want them to be even though they’re showing you otherwise. So you listen to their words and not their actions. She would rather fake it instead of facing the truth. She wants a normal simple life so she tries to create it with liars.
Not all side chicks want to become a wife to the man they're cheating with. Hell, they know that he's a cheater and they know all of his tricks. Somehow Robin is desperate to be in a relationship but keeps going after unavailable men. Subconsciously, I don't believe that she wanted to be a wife. Back then , it was still a goal for women along with being successful in their careers. My bestie and I, both married twice, often discuss how we feel that we fell into that trap. In a sense, she was like Robin. She has been a runaway bride 3 times! So why accept the engagement? It's kind of the same thing except my friend was not EMOTIONALLY available.

It’s Russell, it’s not rocket science. That’s why they didn’t say his backstory or her motivation so it comes out as a surprise when telling her friend her story. Also it shows her clarity and sadness with her original choice in getting and abortion but now she’s gunna keep it.

Robin never was shown any type of love growing up. She was always disappointed throughout childhood, and this is where low self-esteem comes in. Most likely, her father wasn't around or she didn't have a father figure, so she is searching for love in men. With low self-esteem, it comes with many sex partners. She's searching for love. Russell was probably the 1st person who showed her any type of love and/or affection, so that's why she's stuck on him. There are a lot of Robins in the Black community
And although she's with those other guys, her heart belongs to Russell. She loves them. Those others are something to do while she waits for Russell to chose her
They mentioned that Robin was an Army brat so that makes me think that she probably came from an in tact family, even if her father was away serving at times (assuming it was her father in the Army). It would be interesting to know more about her childhood though.

I think Robin wants the best of both worlds. She wants that wife perfect domestic living lifestyle yet she wants with very specific types of men who dont fit that fantasy. So when Michael says he can give thay to her she's momentarily excited but he's not the type of man she sees in that picture with her. Troy and Russell are more those type of men that shes attracted to but Troy is a bust because he's TOO much into the party scene and would likely never settle down fr with her. This is why we have Russell, who to her is the perfect match because he's cool lile Troy but he IS the type to get married (we know this for sure because he already is) so she's so determined to get everything she wants that she settles to wait for Russell to make HER the wife.

Hey!!! Thanks so much for watching! I think you're right that I'm hard on Robin. As a woman, I made plenty of mistakes in my youth and I was hard on myself for them. I've known Robins too. My main criticism of Robin is that she wasn't doing what she needed to do to get what she said she wanted. Not even judging her desires, but rather that her words and actions didn't line up for the best outcome for herself.

In the book, they do narrate their own stories. Also, the movie does Robin no real justice. In the book, she's a bit ditzy, but she also has lots of responsibilities. She was helping to care for her aging parents, not the least of whom was her father who had severe dementia.

I didn't see him throw away the condom either. I saw him open the condom wrapper with his teeth throw that little piece of the condom wrapper down put the condom on and throw the rest of the condom wrapper on floor. I watched it a whole bunch of times after y'all said he threw the condom. It still looks like a condom wrapper to me but I could be wrong

I looked through the comments to see if anyone else had said this first before I made my comment. I watched then re-watched and re-watched again and again and all I see is the same as you @Erika Harris it looks like he tore off the top piece of the wrapper and threw it to the side. Then with the condom still inside the rest of the wrapper he laid down and underneath the covers he took the condom out of the wrapper, put the condom on then tossed the remaining piece of the wrapper over his shoulder as he proceeded to get back on top of Robin.
I feel like the writers were deflee indicating that Troy stolw the wallet.. Cuz its like ''duhh ditsy''. Its a play on Robyn's gullible element.

As far as Robin talking to herself on this film they call that what scientists do on film they analyze what it is they are thinking. A lot of mothers do this too when they clean they talk to themselves out loud.

I'm not advocating for the sidechicks lol but Russell kept telling Robin he was going to leave his wife so he could get what he wanted. Now she's not 100% innocent, if he lied and she found out later that he was married she should've left him alone but she fell "in love" SMH. She didn't make him leave his wife. She turned him away because she needed to stand up for herself and be strong but what is she going to tell the child when they're older 🤔?
Robin loved Russell Russell’s married. She probably found out later on after they got together. She probably would’ve married Micheal because of the material things he could’ve given her. The fact is is that Rob is starved for positive attention and she takes sexual attention instead. She’s looking for love but she don’t even love herself. Which leaves are open to all kinds of bad love.
Robyn. In a way. Intentionally chose 'meantime men's who she wouldn't be able to get serious about. So she could easily & rightfully find a reason to dust them, take out her frustrations with Russell on them and go back to Russell fresh and ready to continue to cycle.. also at the same time challenging them to 'take her' from Russell & kinda a 'get back' to Russell at the same time cuz he won't commit to her..
Robin was delusional.. so her perspective of what shihh was and what it is was actually playing out as. Were two different things.

I think Robyn goes through another cycle of unraveling from her delusions after the movie ends.. cuz the reality is, being a Single Mom & Adapting to the lifestyle AND changing her Hot girl Habits would be a lot harder than she really had the capacity to think . But. I do think she would've worked it out for the best..Makes me think about when Toni had a baby on Girlfriends & what it took for that Character to adapt to being a Mom & having to consider another beings needs and desires over her own..
with that being said.. I wanna point out.. while Robyn & others of her trope are displayed in a way that makes them seem selfless.. in actuality. They are really only 'selfless' as a Means to an end.. Like Robyn dogging Michael knowing she ain't want him in the first place. But she gave to him in order to Juss see if their was anything she could get out of it..
Not to mention, wanting and expecting someone to abandon their family for Her(& therefore willing to 'selflessly' shrink & degrade herself for it' ..... 🤡🤡🤡.. selfish.. And i feel like. A part of her motivation to cutting him off from the kid, is her passive aggressively punishing herself.. I feel like Robin didn't feel she even deserved his support as a parent, b/c of how she was with him.. and it gave her a way to not have to fully deal with the active accountability of goin through allat drama with him, his wife, & other kids..
. And again.. that's selfish. Cuz that decision isn't spose to be about her.. it's spose to be about the wellbeing of the Baby..
That's some great insight on Robin! She was really all about self in the movie.
In the sequel book, Getting to Happy, Michael had a glow up. He wasn't the unattractive guy anymore. He lost weight, became even more successful, gotten married and divorced, and had kids. He and Robin reconnected and got engaged. Robin had a daughter who she named Sparrow. Sparrow is a teenager in the second book. It was Russell's baby not Michael's baby. Russell wasn't married to his wife and he wasn't the same Russell that Robin always knew him to be. He wasn't sexy and desirable like he once was. Russell went through some things since the first book. Getting to Happy was set in 2005, 15 years later. Robin still kept herself up. I wish we never would have lost Whitney Houston. The film adaptation to Getting to Happy would have been good and all of the ladies was on board. Whitney was excited about doing the sequel.
The cast was on Oprah to promote the movie. Lela Rochon said that the scene with Wendall Pierce took two days to shoot. If Michael did went in raw, who's to say that was when she got pregnant especially if she was on her menstrual. Now, a woman can pregnant while on her period. It's not unlikely, but I think she got pregnant after whole Michael situation. Russell was never completely out of the picture even when she was dealing with Troy.
Robin broke it off with Michael personally and fired him on the job.

Robin was speaking to her dog in the opening scene. There was one point in the scene where she actually looks the dog in the face and it's speaking to him and there's a camera cut to the dog looking and reacting to her when she's going to get ice cream and cookies out of the refrigerator if I'm not mistaken
Robyn was in love with Russell ! That’s who she wanted to spend her life with ! Those other men were distractions until Russell left his wife! While she was becoming impatient with Russell I think in her mind she was like well forget Russell I’m going to move on with such and such until she heard Russell’s voice over that phone Lmaooooooooo she was impregnated by Russell twice but decided to keep the other baby! Robyn came to her senses and said he’s never going to leave his wife…. I love Robyn, although she was all over the place she was deep lol.
Russel's reaction to her being pregnant shows a repeat of the previous situation. He didn't want children with her. I don't think she could convince him to leave his wife. Then he is a known liar. It's unknown if he really left his wife.

I don't think it's fair to call her a homewrecker. Russell has always known he was married. A woman can't "take" a man away from his wife. A man can't "take" a woman from her husband.
After her declaration that she was pregnant, he had an opportunity to prove her wrong. The movie (and book) ends before we see what he does.
We watched the film as we mentioned the part about the condom. Agreed about the "taking" of a husband or wife. Not sure why you think that we'd disagree with this. Obviously the person has to want to go. Nevertheless, there is a responsibility that each of the people cheating has toward the damage to the other people's relationship. Nobody was letting Russell off the hook, but Robin's role is not without responsibility.
The side chick is not innocent simply because the man knows he's married. She knows it too. Russell was wrong and so was Robin.

I didn't think we were disagreeing about a spouse being taken. I just think calling her a homewrecker is the wrong label. Russell is the homewrecker. A side chick is a side chick. I don't think Robin is innocent, but she doesn't control Russell, she enables him. He was looking to do wrong, and she made herself available. He told her himself that she was not in a position to dictate to him what he did with his wife, whether it is intimacy or divorce. Robin's portion of wrongdoing is making herself available to and prioritizing a man who treated her as an option. As far as I can remember ,(I'm including the book in my recollection, but it's been at least two decades since I read it) he had at least two options. Both of them should have had enough respect and love for themselves to remove themselves from the situation, but we didn't see that until the end.

I stumbled upon your channel, and I am subscribing! I love the analysis and dialogue. When you spoke on the dynamics of Robin and Michael's financial situation the book goes into more details. Yes, I know you are going by what the movie is showing but, in the book, Robin was shown not to have very great money management skills and was running up her cards and trying to keep up with the payments of her student loans. Thus, she was renting and struggling a bit financially. Michael on the other hand.... (Not mentioned too much in the book) seem to have a better grasp of his finances, thus, enabling him to own a house in an affluent neighborhood, a boat, cars, etc. I just hope he was not overextending himself to make himself more attractive in what he has rather than being confident in the type of man he is. How many people have done that?

In reference to the poolside conversation, in the context of the side chick, Robin had a whole relationship in her POV while Russell was just moving between two women or more. She may believe she was in a relationship and the dynamics of her relationship were established as her having to do her thing while waiting for Russell to pay attention to her again. Russell only saw her apparently when he wasn’t cool with his wife. They fought and he always goes to see Robin. She being the girl on the side wants to be to main girl but knows this probably won’t happen bc Russell is reluctant to leave. She eventually settles in the fact she wasn’t have him but only after the love she wanted from Russell is replaced by a baby

I always thought Michael was lying about what he had. Dude looks like a "square," and I always thought that he uses these "material possessions" to try to get some poon-poon. I mean, he was too eager to have relations with her. Speaking from my experiences, I had partners who looked like him, but broke tried to "tender my loins" by stating they'll buy everything from my Amazon wish list or sell me a dream to try to get some. From what I understand it sounds like Robyn suffers from Attachment Issues which is why is entering all these situationships, she mentions in a voiceover about being a Army Brat so, I’m assuming she moved around a lot and, didn’t have to best relationship with her Dad with him being in the Military, hence all the situationships
The fantasy she told Michael was probably based on the lack of stability she had growing up, she described it like a fairy tale which also highlights Robyn’s immaturity however, her story ends with her growth and independence,

He could have been waiting until the cookout to introduce them to find out he has kids which is kinda fair. And the least he could have done was call if he was going to be late. He clearly got a phone and her number calling while Russell was there
