Crochet maintenance is the g.o.a.t.!!! I have been exclusively getting a crochet maintenance for almost 2 years now. I literally don't think that I could ever go back to retwisting. I'm 4 years in.
Yes, with seborric dermatitis oil makes it so much worse! I’m almost 4 years and I’ve never oil my scalp just let the natural oils do their thing. I also don’t put anything on my hair other than mousse when I retwist (I don’t spray anything either I just do a high ponytail and shower uncovered so it has the steam). Less is more for me so it may also help to eliminate some of the other sprays or at least keep them away from your scalp.
Crochet maintenance essentially instantly loc's your new growth. A small crochet needle is used. The finished result resembles palm rolling. Mine aren't too tight because I tell my stylist that I'm tender headed. I hope that explains everything ❤️.
Your hair is so beautiful and so are you!❤ I’m about 6 months in and I love watching my hair transform. Your advice is on point. In so many videos I’ve learned so much of what NOT to do which translates to LESS IS MORE! New subscriber. I love your content.❤
Oh, girl, wow, thank you so much for sharing this video! I love the music selection playing, too! All that beautiful hair in 4 years is freaking amazing!
Girl your locs are beautiful. We are on the same maintenance schedule. I got get my hair interlocked every 4 months and i just wash it myself in between. I was retwisting it myself in between and i am not doing that anymore. Less is more i am learning.
Thank you so much. Less is more. However, certain hair textures can benefit from a light retwist in between their regular crochet or interlocking maintenance to keep their base stable. Just do whatever works best for you.
Sorry to pry but I noticed your YT channel goes 4 years back so I assume the first video was this set of locs. What made you change up to the locs you had today? Was it sizing?
@keke6924 This set of locs will be 5 years in May. I have a video with the answer to your question called "Loc Extensions Gone Wrong..." ruclips.net/video/s2_7jbIVOSw/видео.htmlsi=MmaMoiX5lEiZYWKy I hope you watch it and it helps.
Omgggggg your haaaaairrr so healthy. Bomb , gorgeous... Awesome!!! 💖💖💖💖 I'm waiting for mine to grow a little more and then imma trim it, cause i have bleach damage on the ends Your hair is growing real fast too cuz when when I had my loccs for 4 years my hair was not that long. I had mine for 8 years, but your hair texture looks different than mine cuz when you have them all in the front it looks longer than mine but when you have them all in the back it looks barely shorter than mine by like 2-3 inches
Nizoral cured my seborric dermatitis, and using aloe shampoo bars from freetheroots and I have no more flakes, I haven’t had them since 2021. Loc brushing, it can be like you said for flakes, but most use it for distribution of oils on the locs and for getting the surface lint off your locs.
New subscriber here😊 am going to start a loc journey and thought i could look up for some tips and am grateful i came across your channel. I do have alot of learning to do and am making sure to go through all your old videos and definitely hit the notification for every new post. Had my hair on straight relaxer am not sure if its a good i dea to lock it that way or i first tream off the treated hair and lock the remaining natural short hair🤔🤔. I will appreciate some guidance on this.
Technically, you can loc relaxed hair. However, I personally would start the journey fresh with the short natural hair. I feel like part of the loc journey is bonding with your hair and image in its rawest form. Thank you so much for subscribing. I hope my videos help you.
@@BornMagnificent do you believe the hair needs retwist in the beginning to train the loc? Or one could solely do the crochet method from the beginning?
@@Ben-jt5ob I'm not an expert, but I believe locs can flourish from start to end with crochet maintenance. Especially if a person has scalp issues and needs to shampoo often.
Salicylic acid 3% shampoo may get rid of it. I have seborrheic derm too and monistat got rid of it years ago but I still have flair ups if I put conditioners or oils or anything on my scalp, not knowing. Now I don't put anything, nothing on my scalp but lightly scratch my sebum from scalp to hair and that with the shampoo is all I need to keep it in check.
@@BornMagnificent Yes ma'am. Most people use it for 30 days but mine was soooo bad I had to use it for 60 days. It was GONE for over 12 years but the constant use of STUFF on my scalp cause it to come back on occasion.
@mz_keren I honestly don't know. I would say I'm in the slightly smaller than medium range. I would recommend going to a loctician who understands hair density to parting ratios. That's the biggest thing about enjoying your own loc journey, in my opinion.
@mezzo0801 it's unavoidable. It's like losing the baby smell, in my opinion. My locs took a very long time to fully mature (over 2 years), so I was able to be fluffy for a while.
I got my first crochet maintenance done on my locs a couple months ago and I LOVED the results, however, it was painful getting it done. I've never been tender-headed, but that wasn't a pleasant experience for me. If you're tender-headed, you may have an issue with this method. I would love for this to be my primary method, but it won't work for me 😒
The maintenance may have been done too tightly. I didn't used to be tender headed, but I am now. I talked to my stylist about it, and she started doing it slightly looser so that my head wouldn't hurt for the next 2 days. Another reason for pain could be your stylist was inadvertently poking your scalp with the crochet needle.

@@BornMagnificent ok, that explains it. At first i thought that the maintenance was interlocked using the crochet hook.
Instant locs or Interlocks ?
@savvybygoch crochet maintenance and instant locs use the same tool/method. I don't Interlock because it'll make my locs skinnier over time.
