  • The 1st start of my Hammer Performance 1275 kit / S&S Super E Carb / Dyna2000i Ignition.
*Carb is on factory settings just to get it started and idling. I will have to tune it after the initial heat cycles.*

@@harleydave2316 Yes sir! Thanks for asking. Aside from some slight seepage from the bottom of my front most push rod tube. But she fired right up. Trying to play with it by rotating it and hoping I get lucky and it fully seals but might end up pulling the head and putting OEM o-rings in. The ones that came in the Cometic kit seemed slightly smaller in gage, however the others tops and bottoms are sealed nicely. 🤷‍♂️ but minor set back just labor. Breaking it in now and trying to figure out this auto tune error. She wont fill cells because its stuck in open loop for some reason. But man can’t wait to get it broke in so I can rip I can already tell a big difference shifting under 4k. And it sounds 🤌

I actually traded this off for a 2002 softail for the same project of making a 70's style chopper out of it. I hear the sportster is running well though. Great choice on using Hammer Performance!! I sent them the softail cylinders and heads for boring/porting and it turned out great!!

About 6 hours if I remember right. It was my first time changing cylinders and heads on a motorcycle so it probably took longer than some people. I just took my time and followed along with their videos on RUclips. 👍😄

With a carburator it is impossible to get the mixture right without the bike running. You just use the factory recommended specs so the bike will start and then you adjust the screws accordingly. 🤓

First start why was the rpms so high?

    • @harleydave2316

It was a literal first start so the carb wasn't adjusted yet.

Did you have to drop pilot jet size ?

    • @harleydave2316

Hammer Performance will send the right jets for the carb you have.

@@harleydave2316 ya it’s just the weekend so can’t get ahold them till Monday. They said start with a 29 pilot. So I did. I have S&S e series carb and had a 28 pilot and that was dyno tuned. Then went with 1275 kit and the 29 is to big so went to the 28 an still to big. Just don’t want to keep dropping sizes if I’m missing something. I rebuilt carb today to make sure fuel enrichment wasn’t hanging open ect. All checks out. Just didn’t know if it was common to drop few sizes in pilot after going to 1275. I did the 4 warm ups for the break in and did short ride to make sure it’s good an hot then adjust air fuel screw but I can seat it with a 29 and also with a 28. Just don’t want to keep dropping sizes nor do I want to drive it till I know if it’s normal. Done lots of rebuilds in life just nvr big bore kit so going big bore tells me I should need to go bigger pilot not smaller then it previously was

    • @acurarl9929

@@harleydave2316 I know a S&s carb is to much carb for a 1200 so hoping going to 1275 is just pulling more vacuums ect witch is making me have to drop sizes. Or I’m missing something important possibly I guess. Build went good. Start ups went good alls good ect air fuel screw is out of range and just not clicking in my head the reason. I’ll tlk to them in cpl days and get to the bottom of it just feeling stupid as I’ve done motors before just havnt enlarged cylinders before so kinda at a learning point I guess. As far as carb adjustments and jetting goes my knowledge tells me to lean out the pilot jet but just don’t make sense to have gone with bigger cams and bigger bore to then have to drop pilot size. Just seems opposite of what I’d think.

@@acurarl9929 I don't have this sportster anymore to look but I did look at my invoice from Hammer Performance concerning this project. I also used a Super-E and they sent me a 68 main & 29.5 intermediate jet. It ran great with that combo! Hope that helps...

@@lacolello6644 you have to adjust the ecm mapping for that year. Anything with a carb like the bike in my video just has a idle screw to turn.
