- We're a little late with this one, but better late than never! The reality is this: We friggin' love Dead Space Remake. It's a true dynamo, one that encapsulated so much of what made the 2008 original so special, while lovingly crafting a series of modern accoutrements and changes that heighten the entire experience. The USG Ishimura is indeed a haunted and dangerous place, and that alien marker... well... it makes us feel funny when we draw near it. That can mean only one thing: It's time to closely examine EA Motive's wonderful love letter to Visceral's original, an adventure some consider the best survival horror game of all-time.

The marker in the Yucatan crater is actually black, not red. The black markers are of alien origin, the red ones are artificial. One interesting idea was that the marker pushed human evolution to the phase where humans could reproduce their own markers, sort of like the obelisk from 2001 a space odyssey.
Yea, the marker on aegis 7 is man made, not the original alien marker found on earth and earth gov hid the man made one there because of what it was doing to people until the miners dug it up
Dead Space 2 is the shit. Issac is suffering from Dementia from his exposure to The Marker in the first game. He starts seeing Nicole as a projection of his psyche, similar to how Joker would show up to Batman in Arkham Knight. Dead Space 2 also further explores the lore surrounding Unitology. Issac stumbles into a Church of Unitology that’s infected with Necromorphs. Not to mention it’s equally incredible setting on Titan, a moon of Saturn 🪐.
Also highly recommend the 2 Deadspace Animated movies “Downfall” & “Aftermath” for more Dead Space goodness.
I played that for the first time after the remake, holy Sh*t was that an experience.
I think Dead Space 2 is my favorite of single player game of all time. It was a sublime experience.
@@CrimsonSun88 The space jump section back down to Titan is so hype
@@jettxjordan That part was epic. Lots of good moments in that game. The church, the school, the section after the church, chapter 10 and many more. Pretty much something really cool and different each chapter.
@@domslayer1877 what did you think of it compared to the remake?
I'm so stoked for DS2 , imagine what they they can do by adding this level of exploration to Titan station, graphics and writing
Too bad it didn't meet eas expectations.
Dude I absolutely loved using the ripper in this game. Found it super useful and powerful
Guys - I can’t express enough how much I enjoyed this episode. I went looking on the internet for interesting content on the DS remake and stumbled onto this show, which was exactly what I was looking for: a deep dive on the game with multiple viewpoints and interesting commentary. Phenomenal content. Thank you!
Really dig this review. Appreciate the deep dive on the story too. Only listened to half so far but I didn't hear you guys mention the sound design which is excellent.
The line gun mines are a great game mechanic. Once you have triple mines it is over for these necromorphs. You can practically stick these on the ceiling, floor, walls and objects (container, plastic bottle, box etc.)
It’s necroporph dismembering time! LET’S GO!
I think the idea with the alternate ending is that it's something that happens sometime AFTER the 'normal' ending, just a little something to sandwich the gap in-between DS1 and DS2. That's how I took it anyway- I might be wrong.
One of the best remakes for sure. I'd put it right behind the RE 2 and FF 7 remakes.
Something cool about the music is I noticed combat music will sometimes keep going for a while after you defeat the last enemy in an area. This totally made me doubt that I got all of the enemies, and it played on a conditioned instinct.
One very nitpicky gripe I had was once you encounter those baby enemies in medical, I came to the conclusion that this was a generational ship. Just based on the amount of babies in the incubators. So then I assumed the Ishimura was absolutely massive with basically a small society on it. But then I realized that didn’t really make sense since nicole is only on the ship for like 6 months. Furthermore, noticing how slowly the walls go by on the tram and realizing I could run from one end of the ship to the other gave me a more realistic scale of the ship’s size. So now I’m like: why the fuck are there so many babies on this ship? I just told myself that they were all patients from Aegis VII transported up for treatment.
They absolutely nailed this remake. From the feel of it to the sound design. Blew me away how good it is.
Colin’s comments on language made me think of really good period pieces like Downton Abbey. Such a cool observation.
This was my first experience with dead space. Absolutely loved it. Gonna replay when I get a psvr2, and experience it in cinematic mode, big screen in pitch blackness (if that's how cinematic works)
Also love the lore and back story, wanted to look for the books, but I couldn't find them
The Ripper is the GOAT. It was so good on the Brute.
The original marker was black, the ones made in Titan Station were red.
You can get the line gun once you get to the bridge and talk with Hammond. You will have a level 2 clearance. Go back to medical for that level 2 door. On map it should be dark green which means you have not been in those areas yet. So, you can have the line gun before you work on the ads canons
Kendra even says at the end to Isaac to listen to the whole Nicole message.
Playing this in December and man, this game rules. I remember sticking with the Plasma Cutter a ton in OG Dead Space but boy do I agree w Dustin, the Ripper is awesome.
Isaac didn’t know Nicole was dead. That was part of the reason he wanted to go.
I have been looking forward to the LSM spoilercast for the Dead Space remake. I think that the Dead Space remake is a fantastic game which is much improved over the original in many aspects. I also think that this deserves to be nominated for game of the year. I know it's definitely my game of the year so far!
One of my favorite game series (see how a replay of DS3 goes on Steam). 100% the Remake on Game Pass and PS5, might pick it up on sale on Steam. Like said, game respects your time and has great replayability.
Still 3 minutes left in video, but I wanted to mention the audio logs. No achievement/trophy tied to them, but I wanted to get them all. Some are very missable (not using Statis on door right away, not killing Brute right away, making enzyme before/after talking to Dr. Cross, only being able to get 2 of 3 logs depending on order you reroute power to the ADS cannons, and finally the pirate shanty log.
The one downgrade for me is I much preferred the original Hammond actor, Peter Mensah.
I’m working my way through the impossible run. Already played through twice. Last two trophies!
Hey guys should I play dead space first or resident evil 4 remake ? I just got both idk what to do 😢
Play RE4 during the day and Dead Space at night.
Play Dead Space
Just finished it. New game plus up next. Been saving this vid until I beat the game. Love the strong Alien movie vibe, which is clearly an influence. Even some of the music score reminded me of Jerry Goldsmiths original score from the 1979 movie.
Incredible remake! Only downside on PC is the annoying traversal stutters which they still have yet to patch
I still have not beaten this because they have not patched the end of chapter 9 bug that stops you progressing into chapter 10😒
YO GUYS I Don't know if you guys have covered this whole "The day Before" Soap opera going on it's the most weirdest gaming story I've ever heard.....Im so interested in whats y'all take on the whole situation If yall have covered it please drop the episode.
july 2009, dead space on ps3 was my very first platinum. february 2023, dead space remake became my 400th platinum. my trophy hunting has come full circle. hahaha
"We're a little late in bringing this to you" I just beat the game so you're good!
The secret ending is not an alternate ending. In dead space 2 they said he made the new marker. Its just a wink to the sequel
With the exception of Isaac, to me the remake main cast voice acting is significantly worse than the original, with the worst being Nicole. It just felt incredibly flat to me
I never played dead space before and I'm playing the remake now this game rules
I wish they could of brought back the original voice actors for Hammond and Kendra. I felt like some of the line delivery from those two were one note. The Chen story felt like it could of been handled better. The game is great otherwise those nitpicks for me.
Dustin in 2023 “Wutch”
It's finally here ❤ 😊😊😊
I highly recommend you guys watch the anime Dead Space Downfall is fucking awesome. Would love to see you all talk about it
Never played the original but this remake is without a doubt one of the best games I've ever played
Story is a little underwhelming it's fine its the other things that prop this game up
None of you remembers crucial details about the DSR lore, and you’re doing a live stream about Dead Space Lore ???🤦♂️
I was pretty disappointed by this game. I mean, it's fine, but to me there was so little in it that felt different in a meaningful way.
It’s a remake not a reimagining
@Yaser Al-Sokary So is REmake on the GameCube and it's noticeably different in ways that are actually meaningful.
@@franjaff6919 the first game was an amazing game that didn’t need much changes. They tweaked and tightened parts and most importantly gameplay
@@YaserRafaelSokary I agree! Which begs the question of why remake it at all?
@@franjaff6919 MONEY MONEY MONEY 😂
RE4 is not survival horror it’s a straight up action game
