- One of PlayStation Portable's very best games came in the form of a 2008 Final Fantasy VII spin-off called Crisis Core. While it wasn't the first new product spawned from FFVII, it was certainly the strongest, telling the story of Zack Fair, a character we don't know a whole lot about in the main game, but someone who's intimately involved in the early portions of VII' lore. Thankfully, the once-stranded title has migrated to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 -- basically remade from the ground-up -- in the form of Crisis Core Reunion, and we're eager to talk about it. Because it's really awesome! To help, I (Colin) enlisted the help of our EP, Dustin, but also of The Washington Post's Gene Park, who was kind enough to take some time out of his schedule to join us and chat. Hey Colin, when you go for the platinum you really just need the darkness and costly punch materia. Maximize your hp, spirit, and vitality stats by fusing your equipped materia with a summon materia. Then equip the accessories that breakthrough the limit of hp and attack. Good luck with Minerva.

Watched Maximilian dood's playthrough of reunion and he ended up with crazy stats something like 20k vitality and always no MP and no SP cost, also 90k crits, also really recommend his FFVII content, great discussions and remake/rebirth theories

50:00 Talking about the craziness of summons and their over the top attacks, I recently learned that summons in Final Fantasy pull their targets into pocket dimensions! (Also explains the strange arenas you get pulled into when you battle them)
Let's be honest, the reality is that it's just batshit anime-style insanity, but it was nice after 20+ years of playing FF games to discover this little detail!

Colin, you know you can just fuse the HP++ and MP++ materia onto something else, to save materia slots. My Curaga ended up with HP+800% effect at the end, so no need for the purple material at all.
Zack is one of my favorite protagonists.
I have a theory that Zack is going to recruit the Turks to be their own version of Avalanche in Zack’s timeline.. and they all die as if they were Biggs, Wedge, and Jessie defending the Sector 7 pillar. There’s something very cool about the parallels in this theory. And the Biggs and Jessie in his timeline become his party members before they are merged into the Remake timeline.
Still rocking that PSP version but boy would I love to get some trophies on this remake version!

36:33 I'm not concerned about story spoilers in a walkthrough, I just want to accomplish as much as I can naturally with my own thoroughness on a first playthrough of a game. The experience feels cheapened, like someone else did all the work for me, if I just follow specific instructions from the beginning. Guides and walkthroughs are for clean up, or to find something I KNOW I'm missing in the moment, as relayed by the trophy list.
Love Crisis Core, was my favorite game for the longest time growing up

When I got hell firaga/blizzaga and the status ward materias- it felt like the game broke. The only status I could be affected by was the one that blocked my DMW. And I one hit KOd 75% of enemies. The only normal enemy that gave me any trouble was the weird little orange balls. I had no clue how to do significant damage to those. Also- hated the voice actor for Zack. It wasn’t noticeable how different the direction was until I picked up on the cutscenes not being the new voice actor. Great game though!

I play through the Metro games in Russian and it actually makes a big difference. The English is pretty mid tier voice acting and the Russian is either better because it is local or I can't notice the problems as much.

Honestly, I love the voice acting in this game. I think Zack's VA is great in both versions, but I certainly don't think it was a downgrade for Reunion. I don't see the big issue that the internet is in an uproar over.

Is there a ff7 remake spoiler cast?
I went back to psp version and this is very much replica of it. Very true remake to its original. They didn’t change anything shift the story or cutscenes , just redid it all
I think zack survived in a third timeline, and when sepiroth is about to lose in the later remakes- he will try and escape to a new timeline and zack will be there to slay him (and playable) AND we will lose aeris that way, by chasing him into it and reunite with zack :)
I don't even like or care about Crisis core but I love hearing Gene on the show, glad he's doing well!
