Imo it's less the voice performance and more the weight and implication of what that moment means. The voice acting in this game and Remake is decent but never truly stood out to me.
@@DOC_951I don't know that it's really accurate to say he WANTED to, more like the Sephiroth side of his split personality had almost full control at that point. He couldn't actually go through with it though, because there was still just enough of Cloud in there to resist. Which is why Sephiroth ended up having to do it himself.
I just got so over the same amount of tasks in every area. Especially when the story started gettting intense and it would make no sense that the party would go do these things in that moment. By the time I got back to Nibelheim I was pretty much done with the side quests apart from the protorelic stuff because that seem to have bigger story implications as well.
Edit: I forgot about yuffie If you get tifa or yuffie for the date, they will be your partner for Loveless, but otherwise it defaults to Aerith IIRC If you get the Cid/Vincent/Cait date it’s because your relationship isn’t high enough with anyone else.
It has honestly been a long time since I've played a game this special... I liked the first game a lot, so going into this one I expected a good experience but this game constantly blew me away. They truly don't make games like this anymore. One of the best games I've played over the past decade for sure
About FFVII Rebirth's side content: I actually think this game has more meaningful and worthwhile side quests than most JRPGs. So many JRPGs bloat it with garbage fetch quests. Many in Rebirth were fun and had story elements to them or just felt meaty and meaningful. The ones that did feel a little bloat-y were some of the Chadley regional ones. Could they have cut some of those out? Sure. But that would lead to what I consider even a bigger pet peeve in RPGs: big worlds with nothing in them. It feels like Square was trying to make these large areas feel worth exploring and oversaturated them a bit, but I'd rather have that than the alternative. Some games you play these days you can tell they just wanted to hop on the open world bandwagon but didn't have any content to put in these worlds. Square did, and I'm fine with the amount of side content that was in it.
Agreed. I actually went back and replayed it without the side quests thinking that i would rather just focus on the storyline, but i felt like i was missing out on details that enhanced the story (i.e. Red XIII’s dad with the Gi). And it’s OPTIONAL. That’s the part i think people forget. This game truly defines what an RPG is.
I think the Chadley stuff would have felt a little better if they didn't signpost pretty much all of it immediately, maybe traded out some of the "activate/scan a thing in this location" objectives with either puzzles or more challenging combat encounters, and put the materia rewards in a chest or something at that location after completing the objective, instead of just giving you points to buy them from Chadley. It would feel more like you're actually exploring and finding useful rewards instead of completing a checklist so Chadley will give them to you. I think my biggest problem with the way they did the side quests though was just the fact that the protorelic quests can't be repeated via chapter select. Especially the Cosmo Canyon one and the Gilgamesh island challenges. Those feel way too important to only get to experience once on a single save file when everything else is replayable. The rest of the world intel stuff I can see being one and done, but everything story and combat related should be repeatable.
We don't have much of the big empty world problem anymore though almost every recent open world game for the last few years has released with too many bloated things in the maps, idk what open world game you played recently that was empty but that has not been the case for me for several years now.
One of the cool things about FFVII Rebirth is how almost every side quest you finish has a great payoff. Not just with items and equipment, but all the cutscenes and dialogue make everything you do feels like it matters significantly. The best payoff is the protorelic side quest with Gilgamesh. Love seeing that in a big RPG like this, because I never feel like my time is wasted.
The clear materia was empty because the whispers stole its power in Remake. Aerith explains this early in the game to RedXIII in Costa Del Sol. At the end of the game, Aerith from another timeline gives her white materia to Cloud to bring to herself in the present timeline so that she can use it at the alter.
I dont know colin might be right, we could get the evangelion 3.0+1.0 ending where its different and we fix all the timelines and zack and aerith could be saved. Brought into the world from the other timelines. We're just going to have to wait and see.

Chadley is miserable and it sucks that a character that is not in the original has the most spoken dialogue in the game and controls every aspect of your interaction with the world... he doesn't need to interrupt you every time you mindlessly scan a crystal for the 100th time to tell you you did a good job scanning that Crystal.
Yuffie is an unfortunate anime/JRPG tomboy trope that most people have experienced a hundred times if they are playing a JRPG. Also there have been way better tomboys in JRPGs her character is fairly lame in design until she actually gets backstory and you experience it as a player but even then the development isn't as permanent as I would like to see in regards to growth especially with what she's dealing with.

So funny the part where you’re talking about forgetting games. I’m doing Final Fantasy 7 Remake on hard mode to get the platinum, I played it when it first came out, first Final Fantasy game I ever actually completed the story of - at the time said it was one of my favourite games ever, but I’m replaying, and doing trophy clean up and stuff, and when I’m playing it I have genuinely no idea what’s coming up next. Like I could not tell you anything about the story of the game.
COLIN, what you´ve said about the "outcomes" of doing all the side quests is exactly what happened in the original 1997 FF 7, if you didn´t do the side quest you wouldn´t meet and get yuffie and vincent, also you wouldn´t know about Zack, you only knew about him if you did the side quest., also, that is the same situation with The Witcher 3 (one of the BEST games ever), and in the yakuza games, Mass Effect and Red Dead 2, in witcher 3 especially, the game is really far better when you explore the side quest, the main story is not that great but the meat and potatoes is on the side quest, the feeling of really exploring that world, finding people and living adventures through their stories, they took a LOT from the Witcher 3 both in Rebirth and in FF 16 and even in FF 15
I definitely feel in regards to side quest quality and connection to TW3 Rebirth refined the formula for Square the best, they've done much better on it (this team specifically because 16 released to close to learn much from it given rebirth was likely already finishing at that point).
My theory is all the R&D spent on minigames is simply for standalone games in the future. You don’t have a chocobo racing minigame this detailed and only be able to play it in Rebirth.
I bet you we wont see it again until this specific team makes another mainline game which may not be for a decade if they take a break. Squares teams are widely know to be separated and independent to a fault, while they are trying to mend that problem now its going to take a very long time to share software and development resources like that efficiently.
Speaking of the GI-tribe. remember what Red XIII promised them? he would help them WITHOUT using the black materia and save them. That has to be a quest of part 3, OR maybe thats what red xiii will be doing after the story for the next centuries.
Lol the dunky video colin mentioned about why no one remembers video game stories is just him listing every game that uses amnesia as a story trope. Its a pretty funny video. Its just like 10 minutes of him asmr whispering listing games and saying amnesia.
Once again, Rebirth has the exact same trophy completion as remake for the final chapter and both games are in line with other story games trophy percentage.
I have never been really invested in final fantasy games. I preferred mana and tales of games. I liked the game but didn’t love the game FFR. I don’t see the point to do all the side stuff. I understand wanting to complete everything in a game because that’s usually how I usually start a game. But when I saw the Ubisoft map I noped out on doing everything. It becomes a job when I feel the need to do everything and not a game. Everyone’s playthough is valid as long as they play how they want.
It just irritates me that there are other big games that are "bloated" too but get a pass where Rebirth gets criticized. Elden Ring is packed with unnecessary content or bloat as some would say but nobody called it out.
What’s not to praise? Game is awesome. Tons of content. At 156 hours I’m like ten hours from platinum. And I’m just now starting to feel some burnout. Game has a few areas that could have used some work/tweaking. Overall it’s a solid 9.5 for me
@adamthiry868 I could write a novel on what's not to praise, but I'll just say what these writers have done with this story and characters, this Kindgom Hearts-ification, is nothing short of a tragedy. The fact that any fans of the original game takes these "remakes" serious is fucking bizarre to me. I was actually embarrassed playing many scenes in front of my wife because the dialogue is so incredibly bad. Holy shit man.
@@girthpapi that’s interesting. I loved the original way back when and I thought the remake was amazing. I had tons of fun. Thought the store was good. The whole multiverse thing is meh, but everything else is cool
You guys really needed to do this with someone who actually did hard mode or the brutal and legendary challenges… Most of your complaints or questions are completely answered. Relationships, character uses and unique abilities, materia, abilities, mp conservation, blocking and etc all mean nothing because you guys only did normal mode. Aerith is in the play (unless you have Tifa or Yuffie) 🤦🏻♂️ and Cissnai says the same answer no matter what question you choose to ask her. You miss out on 90% of the gameplay mechanics and details by only playing through the story on normal. You really do.
Totally agree. The dynamic/normal mode is meant for someone who wants to casually enjoy playing the game and the storyline. If you want the actual challenge of the game and get the most out of how the game WANTS you to play, hard mode is it. It forces you to use all of your characters and their abilities and the materia. Like FF is meant to be played.
I enjoyed the game for well...the gameplay. They nailed it visually and the combat was a lot of fun. They expanded on characters and locations that didn't get the TLC back then. But I abhorred the storytelling mechanics they employed. It's gone beyond convolution.
Man Colin's takes are so clichéd and boring, it's like listening to an out of touch, self involved, old stoner... what happened to him? he used to have clever takes on games years ago
Sorry this game was ruined for me with how Bloated it was. I never played the original so I didn't have the nostalgia, but that Cait mansion sequence broke me lol
I think Chadley being the conduit for all of the open world stuff is such a disappointment.... it cheapens the exploration and meaning of the world. There is nothing to "find" because Chadley just tells you where and how to interact with the world and all times... and he has so much meaningless dialogue....
I don't mind Chadley, but you make a nice point. His commentaries and guidance make the world more predictable, things don't get to surprise you, you don't get to discover anything. I'd be ok if they made him less prevalent in Part 3
It's just that he brings up the length so much and so much of it is self-inflicted and he admits it's self inflicted cuz that's how he plays. The thing is the game makes it easy to replay chapters so.... He could always play what he wants to get out of it and come back to chapters at a later date and continue to get awesome stuff out of it. That's the beauty but he ignores it and thinks he needs to experience it all right now and then complains about that.
As an avid trophy hunter, the trophy lists for both FF7R games are horrendously awful. Tedious, overly difficult and needlessly grueling, these are some of the absolute worst lists I’ve platinum’d in 3 generations. I doubt I’ll bother with the 3rd game whenever that comes out, unless I learn they fire the person responsible for curating the lists for the first two games.
@@danorganplayer I really wanted to love Rebirth. I really did. But after I finished it my immediate reaction was to delete it from my PS5. It just didn't hit the way I was expecting. The moment I did that side mission that involved luring the chicken with the can....and uprooting the mushroom....Something inside my me broke...hahah!!
@@paulydee5106 that quest was hilarious tho. The pay off was great. I feel like at the very least the side quests had good character moments and were often entertaining on some level. Remake part 1's were just bland as hell. Only thing I was disappointed by was the ending. It didn't land emotionally for me
@@stonehorn4641no. He's correct if you play games like him where you need to experience nearly everything in the first playthrough. Most people like to enjoy their game more than once. I saved things so I can go back to play at a future date to get more out of it.
Spider-man 2 sold more in 10 days than Rebirth has up to this point, you can't blame the so called "low" install base of 60 MILLION USERS. Wanna know why sales are dropping? IT'S NOT A FAITHFUL REMAKE! They turned FF7 into a multiversal KH/FF13-esque convoluted mess.
That's ridiculous. It's a PS5 exclusive that almost requires you to check out the previous game to play it. That's why it's not selling as much. Part 3 will be worse in that regard. Also the game had a ton of faithful moments. Ever play reimagining before?
@@who_hurt_youproductions8826 Spider-Man 2 isn't one story split in 3 parts. FF7r trilogy is. So people feel obligated to play the first part before playing the second and it'll be worse with the third part. That's just a reality. My core point is people make a huge fuss over the sales for nothing. It was always gonna sell worse than part 1.
I bet FF7 Rebirth is great. There's no way im buying a PS5 to play it. With so many games to play Sqaure can just keep eating losses on the exclusive deal with Sony.
Wich losses? They gave their finacials last thursday and it was in the black, profits. When time comes, it will be released on PC as well. Having a single plattform that has a easy development kit has proven good in releasing a polished game and in just under 4 years. Having to optimize then for PCs is spending a lot of time and money for hundreds of configurations, but at last it will be released there.

6:05 Colin: “ that was when I lived in the gay house.”
Brad: “The GAY house??” lol 😆
Thats so funny that colin forgot that aerith was in the play at the gold saucer
If this game was just a 40 hr game all story and meaningful side quests it would of been great
@Brad. I have had the flu and terrible allergies at the same time. It is not a good experience.
Leaving a like then sadly will not watch this episode, as I've not played the game yet.
Lol the dunky video colin mentioned about why no one remembers video game stories is just him listing every game that uses amnesia as a story trope.
Its a pretty funny video. Its just like 10 minutes of him asmr whispering listing games and saying amnesia.
I got the dog for the date at gold saucer
Once again, Rebirth has the exact same trophy completion as remake for the final chapter and both games are in line with other story games trophy percentage.
To the people complaining about the trophy go platinum ff10 and then come back to me
Brad’s awesome
I have never been really invested in final fantasy games. I preferred mana and tales of games. I liked the game but didn’t love the game FFR. I don’t see the point to do all the side stuff. I understand wanting to complete everything in a game because that’s usually how I usually start a game. But when I saw the Ubisoft map I noped out on doing everything. It becomes a job when I feel the need to do everything and not a game. Everyone’s playthough is valid as long as they play how they want.
I love that Colin adores the ending. ❤
I’d rather play a 100 hour game that I love 80 hours of then play a 30 hour game I love 30 hours of. Give me more
This was a fantastic discussion. Thanks Colin and Brad
Colin, you should really look into proper training if you’re working out that many days. Aim for hyper trophy and give yourself more rest days.
It just irritates me that there are other big games that are "bloated" too but get a pass where Rebirth gets criticized. Elden Ring is packed with unnecessary content or bloat as some would say but nobody called it out.
I really thought Colin was going to be the voice of reason for these games. I really don't get the praise, blows my fucking mind.
@@girthpapiWhy waste so much of your time on such a seemingly miserable experience? You should have bailed out after Remake
@@Oliander712 Copium I guess. I wanted it to be good, but it just got worse and worse.
Colin can’t even recall his loveless play. 🤦🏻♂️
dagan is oddly good at being a host
you all are i dont get it. i couldnt do it im way too introverted. I think C is just a really good judge of talent
Only og recognize Glenn as frog. Lol
Wondering why Dustin wasn’t on this one? Oh yea he just golden pathed the game. 🤦🏻♂️
Found this from watching the sacred symbols podcast and damn, Colin just isn’t great to listen to.
Brad all the way baby.
You guys really needed to do this with someone who actually did hard mode or the brutal and legendary challenges…
Most of your complaints or questions are completely answered.
Much like with Devil May Cry 5 - it is just a little too late when you only get it after beating the game.
I have no clue who Reece is and no I didn’t play the original cause I don’t like JRPGs
It’s crazy no matter how hard Squeenix tries I will never care for Aerith. I felt absolutely nothing from this game’s ending. I love 95% of this game
I think the chadley hate is overblown.
I don't mind Chadley, but you make a nice point. His commentaries and guidance make the world more predictable, things don't get to surprise you, you don't get to discover anything.
I'd be ok if they made him less prevalent in Part 3
The Proto Relic stuff shook things up a bit, but the repetition of Chadleys objectives across 5 or 6 big maps was absolutely tedious.
People are too hard on Colin. He loves the game
Imagine purely playing video games to collect meaningless digital "pats on the back".
Literally no one is telling you to platinum the game.
So many crappy mini games. So much bloat...
You don’t have to play them…..
@@Dis2goodApparently people like self torture. I enjoyed them and played them all.
It didn't land emotionally for me
im not going to play rebirth though, i cant stand jrpgs im playing robocop its janky as fuck but i like it
Colin can reiterate as many times as he wants about the optional open world content, he's still wrong. Get over yourself and learn some self-control.
let people play how they want. And in this game he’s correct
You can't compare an IP like Spiderman to a jrpg. Stop it. Dragon Quest 11 is an amazing jrpg nobody plays it.
That's ridiculous. It's a PS5 exclusive that almost requires you to check out the previous game to play it. That's why it's not selling as much.
Part 3 will be worse in that regard. Also the game had a ton of faithful moments. Ever play reimagining before?
@@danorganplayer and what's spiderman 2 a continuation of the first game.
@@danorganplayer also you're talking about jrpgs which never sell well and mostly are ps exclusives. That's the problem
PS5 is a better system. Your loss
Hard disagree on moogles, the prizes you can trade for were worth it, and so was the payoff.
I agree, but the moogles should have been part of Golden Saucer, them being in the real world felt really out of place.
