- Back in September, Ember Lab's very first game -- Kena: Bridge of Spirits -- launched on PS4 and PS5. As a timed console exclusive, Kena filled (and continues to fill) an important gap in the fall and winter lineup on Sony's hardware, and the good news is that it's doing so ably, because Kena is great. Stylish, charming, deep, and fun to play, this PlayStation 2 era-inspired 3D action-platformer can be the start of something special, or it could be a one-off. Either way, it's absolutely worthy of your time and attention, which is why I (Colin!) wanted to sit down and talk about it.

Love this game, perfect length, good story, next Kena game should be pure fire 🔥
Just beat this game yesterday! Kena is a special little game I'm so glad I played it. I can't believe this is Ember Labs first game!
Moving to this game next, will go for another platinum. Very excited for this one.
What a great way to get into a characters mind or the intentions the developer had for said character. This kind of vehicle for experiencing a games story has always worked for me...
This is a challenging game mainly in it's boss fights. All I can say is get gud. It is ok for a game to be punishing. You cannot win against these bosses by just button mashing. You must hone your skills and really watch the enemy's movements.
Just platinumed this game. Really enjoyed this
It definitely is souls like, specifically on Hard and Master. It boils down to pattern combat and timing. Learn the moves, time your responses, succeed. The only difference is there is no stamina, but as a souls player, this game's combat shares much of the same mentality you have to approach combat in those games.
Master is exactly what it sounds like. It gets to a point where you will just naturally beat a boss without getting hit, or maybe getting hit just once or twice, because otherwise you won't win. It becomes a science, and almost like a dance.
In terms of visuals and sound it was great, but man the combat is incredibly frustrating. I had to put the game on easy just to beat the final boss because I was beyond ready to move on.
I hate that they patched the exploit for the Master trophy because I have no incentive on playing it again without NG+
God of War (2018) shows all the collectibles that are in the area and completion percentage based on what you have collected.
Would love to hear what criticism you had in regards to the small things you stated it got wrong as I thought the map was amazing. I never knew not what to do in the main story which allowed me to focus on side quests.
I completed the platinum for this game. It was definitely difficult at times, but I found a guy that had extensive guides on how to beat each boss on master difficulty and it was a life saver. You can't cheese the bosses, but you can beat them rather easily once you know what to look for, which is good game design. It's definitely something that is possible Colin, I'd recommend giving the platinum run a try. Especially since it's something you can do while listening to a podcast.
Also, this is a game that I think Dagan should check out if he's got the time. I'd be interested in his opinion from an animation standpoint.
Which guides did you use?
@@InGameProductionz the channel was Fuzzy Bearbarian. He actually managed to beat every boss on master difficulty without taking damage.
@@KZ3fps I legit gave up going for the trophy on the first boss. Game felt incredibly inconsistent at times
I'm planning on buying Kena Bridge of Spirits when I am eventually able to get a PS5.
bless you
good solo Colin
Wow, a no-show? Super unprofesh. :/ The show must go on.
My GOTY!
Glad Colin got through it!
I'm hoping it wins some awards at the TGAs
I think you might be on too Something . Just colin having a monolog on a game.
Breaking the story elements and design.
Hybroxia 2 demanded good amount of grinding in beginning. More then a weekend
Combat was excellent. Loved the challenge it gave. I would have disliked this game if it was super easy like most of these games are. The game was a pleasant surprise. I hope for a sequel that's much bigger in scope.
Is there a reason why new spoilercasts are uploaded here before the ones that came out in 2020?
The best woods in games I have ever seen are in Kingdom Come, I really felt like I was out in the woods.
Kinda bummed its just Colin, would have liked another person's thoughts on this one.
I played the game on my pc, I thought it was pretty good, the combat was a lot of fun, the story and most characters other than Kena were forgettable. The villain's actions especially make no sense, why he'd do what he did but to me this game was about the adventure, the scenery, the combat, the music and that was all pretty good.
There was a lock on?
It doesn't look or run good on PS4. Maybe looks better now after patches, but at launch it wasn't impressive.
Kena was a good game, kinda short, little bit of problems but for the price worth it. Better than Rift Apart for me.
Edit: Played it on PC, 4K max settings. Every new vista you come across is worthy of a screenshot
