  • Eastern Europe has never been explored in Resident Evil, that is until the launch of RE Village, known colloquially as RE8. In a direct sequel to 2017's Resident Evil 7, players once again find themselves in the role of the mysterious Ethan Winters, this time as he chases an undead mystery many thousands of miles from Louisiana. What he finds on the other end of his voyage is a small, seemingly-abandoned town run by a Christian Orthodox-like cult-of-personality, and... well... the zombie slaughter-fest ensues. We hope you enjoy our chat, and remember: Spoilers linger everywhere within.

    I don't understand the hate for Heisenburg. He was the only one of the 4 houses that was angry about being taken and turned into a monster. He didn't want to fight, he wanted help. It added a complexity to the fight (for me personally) knowing he had no intentions of fighting you. That being said, I didn't care for the mech boss battle. It was so different from the rest of the game that it was jarring. Pulled me out of the horror game mindset and it was difficult to go back there afterwards.

      I feel the same way. He added a different dimension to the game. It’s funny because a lot of comments I see is that people wished Heisenberg wasn’t killed off and stuck around to be the main antagonist in future games.

      The fact that he had Magneto-like powers was dumb and didn't fit RE at all. His enemies felt more like BioShock than Resident Evil also.

    The first half of RE Village is one of the best horror experiences I’ve had in recent memory. Specifically the entirety of the house with the fetus and dolls. Another good game that had amazing atmosphere was Little Nightmares 2.

    Watching 2+ years later after I finally played it, so not sure if anything will read this...but I didn't really find the doll house that scary....creepy for sure...but the fact that they take your weapons away told me nothing was really going to happen combat-wise. And when I saw the "Press X to hide" before the baby showed I knew that meant that it would show up as soon as I walked down the hall...

    The houses should of been in this order:

      I don't think it felt that shoe horned in, the game for the most part is action horror anyways so why not give the fans a big blow out close to the end as the series oldest protagonist just mowing down lycans, good shit imo.

    I wish the factory and the Moreau parts were cut and Alcina Dimitrescu, Mother Miranda and Beneviento parts were extended. The Dimitrescu segment should've been the ending portion and Alcina should've become the main villain of the game or maybe even change sides.
    I think this game was mishandled story and pace wise. Still the atmosphere and presentation is really good.

    It's interesting to see so many people hate the factory or dislike it for what it does to pacing. From a pacing perspective, I would absolutely agree. After Lady D, you're hit with two progressively shorter sections than you're hit with a section that is as long as Lady D. However, RE4 has that same problem, most of the games have that same problem. That being said, what I like about the Factory and why it didn't piss me off when I replayed the game, was the way the game was able to keep up the scares and the gameplay in this section. I will say, that my sentiments were similar to those when I first played the game, but on repeat playthroughs, I actually look forward to it because it's the only other RE-like section in the game and that holds up.
    I can see why people don't like Heisenberg, but his B-Movie dialogue and acting is par for the course of old-school Resident Evil and so I appreciated that. As for Mother Miranda, I think a braver and even more interesting story, would have seen Heisenberg and Ethan joining together in an uneasy alliance to defeat Mother Miranda and then have Heisenberg and Ethan fight each other.
    As to what is going on? Plot-wise? It's never been truly confusing really. What's happening at the moment is convoluted, but each game it's always just a new virus, a new outbreak, and let's take it out. The villains may have their own motivations, but they hardly carry over from game to game, with Eveline and Wesker being the sole ones to do so. Beyond that, there's nothing truly hard to understand about it really. It's like a Mission Impossible, James Bond movie. There's not this huge overarching story arc like there is with Game of Thrones or LOTR or even Harry Potter, it's always just a new mission and you may learn a thing or two more about the characters, but not much. Once the current mission is over you get a few name drops in the next game if your lucky, but on the whole, they are vastly unconnected from one another. 7, 8, and I assume 9 are highly connected, but there you got a trilogy of games and a trilogy is not too bad (confusion-wise).

    I get what they were saying about the castle and dollhouse locations being more memorable, with the other locations feeling like a letdown in comparison, but I actually feel this is true with all Resident Evil games. When I think of RE 1, I think of the iconic mansion. When I think of RE 2, I think of the police station. The police station is only a fraction of the game, but it still sticks out far more than the sewers or lab. Village carried on the tradition of the first big location you see being the one that sticks with you the most.

    • @lt_johnmcclane
      @lt_johnmcclane 3 года назад

      The village section in RE4 is by far the strongest section of that game as well

  • @phrophannus

    I really enjoyed RE7, it was the reason I went back to the saga, but the gameplay and the graphics is so much better on this one, the ending was really hard but it was consistent and fun, Ethan is a bit raw but he have way more emotion than 7, the actor did a great job.
    There is a third person update coming and if they change the perspective to show Ethan's face it will make it even better (but I doubt it)

  • @pearlsoprano287
    @pearlsoprano287 3 года назад

    For me, the factory was better then the doll house. I ofc thought the fetus was scary asf and really enjoyed the spookiness to it. But a factory underground that was filled with these patients, drill-hand “zombies”, that whole industrial place was just such a scary location to me.
    Regardless, every location had its high moments, not once was I upset with a part of the game. Probably my favourite RE game.
    Also, its a weird one where 10 hrs felt perfect, vs if we got that in a game like Last of Us, I feel everyone would lose it.

    I don't understand how anyone can play re8 and not understand the plot. I've seen so much conversation about how no one understands the plot and I honestly don't get it. The game is very upfront about the plot and lore, it's not dark souls. I only have two plot questions. First one is how did Chris and Blue Umbrella not know Ethan was a mold man when it says they ran a million tests on both him and Mia? Also, how did Mother Miranda know Ethan was a mold man and his daughter was the chosen one? If it's because of mold powers okay but then why did Chris have the Winters placed so close to the mold village? Did he not know? Was it by chance?

    Capcom knows whats the best aspects of RE, imo its the mansion, village , castle settings that are its strongest. But I bet whomever has been responsible for the lesser aspects has a deciding vote and will always hold RE back from its best form.

  • @headknocker2020
    @headknocker2020 3 года назад +2

    I know the RE games have never been very realistic what with the zombies and monsters and all, but I do miss the semi-grounded nature of the older games specifically the first one. I'm not quite sure how to explain what I miss from those old games. The story is so wacky now and I couldn't give two shits about Ethan and his family haha. It's just not as interesting to me as the STARS vs Umbrella arc. The survival horror angle is almost non-existent in RE Village, I never felt like I was scrounging for ammo or money even when playing on the hardest difficulty and the only truly horror section was the doll house which was essentially a walking simulator section. It turned into a straight up action game and that was a big turn off for me. The old games had me hoarding bullets, running from certain encounters, and I think they took the horror more seriously which is what was the biggest selling point of the first game when it came out. It was scary as shit back in the day. I would love to see another true survival-horror game from Capcom, even if it's a new IP.
