Correction, in the original Salazar was not a little kid, he was 20 years old but due to sickness stunting his growth and the plaga aging his body he ended up looking like a little old man boy
I can't believe you guys didn't mention the Regenerators!! By far, the most terrifying enemies in the game. Also, the armored Ogre pre boss fight where he's throwing rocks at you gave me straight Attack on Titan vibes.
What a year. Resident Evil 4 Remake and Dead Space Remake are in my top 5 favorite games of all time. Horror games are certainly the games I look most forward to. Resident Evil 4 Remake is my favorite game ever.
I felt that the castle in Resident Evil 4 came close to the police station in Resident Evil 2. As far as it being that really atmospheric setting the feels like a character. There are some legitimately creepy parts in the dark, mainly when you're playing is Ashley and she has to sneak around those knight creatures. I also liked that they went for something different with Ada and her voice performance. I didn't mind at all the sort of deadpan performance, and her lower smoky voice.
I felt they didn't need the "mansion" like place in this game. It was more like being behind enemy lines going deeper into this mystery not knowing what you will find.
45:15 That guy in the bathroom is actually also in the bathroom of the original game. Also, going off of the bell skip in the village, you can also sequence skip the wrecking ball section with Ashley if you just throw a few grenades at at the barrier she's trying to break. You can use a rocket launcher too but she still has to hit it once iirc. Something I was hoping that would be brought up when you guys mentioned the reveal of the parasite infected enemies is how interesting (brilliant?) their design is from a historical gameplay perspective relative to RE. Prior to RE4, blowing off a zombie's head was a sure sign that they were dead. In RE4, blowing off a Ganado's head actually makes the enemy even more dangerous and creepy which I always thought was done intentionally by Capcom to mess with the player's expectations of what should typically happen in a scenario like that. Once these enemies start popping up, you actually start being scared of blowing their heads off because they can easily one shot you, especially if you're running low on ammo or flashbangs. This isn't the first Capcom has done something like this either if you think back to crimson heads in the RE1 remake for the Gamecube. I'd be surprised if the original Dead Space team wasn't inspired by this idea along with the Regenerators when they were thinking about how to handle the necromorphs.
Resident Evil 4 is co game of the year so far, along with Jedi Survivor. Extremely excited to watch this. Especially because it's three of my favorite LSM boys. Cheers!
Colin the reason for enemies taking more hits is due to the difficulty director. It's been in re games since the second or third I believe. There are also critical hits which is why sometimes you explode a head in one shot.
Learning about the director ruined the tension in this game for me. I constantly noticed how enemy behavior and ammo counts were tweaked depending on the circumstances.
The opinion, that RE5 turned out the way it did being traced back to RE4, that Colin had is nothing new. Colin just never noticed it. That observation has been made for over a decade. I remember saying the same thing back in 2012-2013. But we have to be careful not to unfairly criticize RE4/5. RE5 is still a fantastic game, especially as a coop game.
The maxed out Sentinel 9 with 5x crit and laser sight, that's where it's at. Also I managed to get the striker charm, which is probably the most sought-after charm in the game. It's funny how that 8% running speed increase is really noticeable.
I agree with the audio on headphones being problematic. My situation is a bit unique in that I use an optical cable going from my tv to a DAC then to an amp for my Sennheiser HD 6XXs and I put the audio mode to headphones, but I still had the same issues you had and echo them almost completely. Same for when I play at my pc feeding ps5 audio into it. Mostly the game is fantastic, but as you guys mentioned, there are a couple of small problems (audio, enemies attention, Ashley ai). In the grand scheme, they don’t detract from the greatness of the game much at all, but they are noticeable and should be discussed and criticized especially when it’s from a very capable team like this one. We expect a team like this to get these details right and are going to be a little harder on them than other teams because we know what they’re capable of.
Here's the big question for me. Which is better, Resident Evil 2 remake or Resident Evil 4 remake? They both are complete masterpieces, and have pros and cons when comparing one another. Overall, I feel that resident evil 2 slightly edges out Resident Evil 4. It's just an utterly Sublime and perfect game.
@gregoryjoslin3173 totally makes sense. I actually like how different they are in some fundamental areas. Resident evil 2 is super streamlined, with no merchant or anything like that. Resident Evil 4 has great replay value from all the different weapons and upgrading Etc. All the different side missions and whatnot.
Someone probably mentioned this before me or I may have missed this in the conversation but, if you wait for the redecul to shrink while aiming you do more damage. I think that may be the cause of the inconsistent enemy health.
Was going to wait until the PSVR2 version dropped before playing but I bit the bullet and picked it up a week ago. About halfway through and absolutely loving it. Still CANNOT wait to play it on PSVR2!
16:31 "Professional S+" You get this by unlocking the infinite ammo cat ears accessory. Of course it can be done without bonus items but most people will want to use the unlockable cheats.
I doubt Dagan reads YT comments, but Amnesia: The Bunker is a recent release and is easily one of the scariest games I've ever played. If he wants something that will terrify him, it's a very safe gamble.
Wait, so Colin used a rocket launcher on the end part of Sadler? All you do in that part is dodge a few times and then Ada gives you the rocket launcher and that's the end. Kind of wasted that thing. Oh well. Great discussion as always.
RE4 OG is my favorite game of all time, and man Capcom blew me away with this remake I was very skeptical. It's my GOTY and I've beaten Dead Space, Jedi Survivor, and almost finished with FF16. Only thing that might beat it is Armored Core 6 but I doubt it lol.
Why is this 3 months old but uploaded 20 minutes ago ? Also absolutely agree, PS4 games coming out on PS5 needs to stop, it's why ps5 is the most disappointing console Sony has ever released...... absolutely no ps5 exclusives whatsoever, remakes and remasters are holding a whole generation of consoles back, we want new experiences not old ones with new paint
Yes, RE4 Remake is more challenging than the original, you are much more limited on ammo and the way the knife maintenance deletes your money is very punishing.
I've got 100 hours+ in RE4 Remake, I played this more than Elden Ring. I still can't say this wholly replaces the 2005 original "IF" you play either the Wii version, or play on PC and download the HD Project mod. DO NOT try to play 2005 RE4 on Xbox/PS4 because those ports are horrendous. It could be argued the best version of RE4 is still the Wii, but on PC with HD Project Mod it revamps the camera to make it "almost" as playable as RE4 Remake. I have two main gripes with Remake that keeps 2005 RE4 relevant to me: 1. Combat. Playing RE4 2005 you get into a rhythm of suplexing everything like an action hero, it has an arcade game feel that just never comes out in RE4 Remake. RE4 Remake feels almost the same to play as RE2 Remake, Capcom 100% succeeded in reigning back RE4 into a suspenseful horror game rather than the campy action that embodied the original, and with that said I can't take one as a replacement for the other. 2005 and Remake are very similar games but also very distinct. 2. QTEs. I know that in the time since Shenmue introduced the QTE to the world it has become a tired and overused mechanic, but RE4 2005 has a near perfect implementation of QTEs. The QTEs in 2005 are tight, challenging, and interspersed throughout in a way that no other game has done since, I LOVE how you are not allowed to relax even during cutscene dialogue, the game still keeps you on your toes at all times. In fact I will go ahead and say that Shenmue and RE4 2005 are the only two games ever made to properly implement the QTE as a game mechanic. That and the 2005 Krauser fight playing out entirely in QTE form is perfect. Normally I hate seeing games lock action scenarios into a scripted cutscene and I will always say videogames should show narrative through gameplay as much as possible, but this is maybe the only exception. The 2005 QTE Krauser fight is just beautiful, from a narrative standpoint you see the hero and villain at their absolute best, but you as the player are still required to give absolute concentration. Oppositely, Remake has you walk up to Krauser and poke at him for a few minutes, not very graceful. Yes the parry and dodge mechanic in Remake is very similar in concept while also more dynamic than what you'd be doing in the 2005 QTE version, but it still kind of dampens the image of the two characters. Beyond that the QTEs overall in RE4 Remake are much more forgiving than 2005, again we do have the parry mechanic in Remake which is very tight and challenging, but at the same time it feels like they gave up on the idea of using traditional QTEs as a skill testing challenge. 3. Not a main gripe but still nagging, voice acting is more of a mixed bag in Remake. Ada was just poorly directed in Remake. Saddler is somehow more over the top in Remake and I prefer his acting in 2005. Ashley in Remake might have been a total improvement but she's now obsessed with "being a team" and bragging when she's good at something which gives her a narcissist twist. Contrast that with the popstar brat from 2005 and it's hard to say one is better than the other. You have to praise the RE4 Remake team for doing an amazing job and the new game is a clear upgrade in almost every way, it's just that a few nagging issues become more prominent when they were so close to perfection. Overall RE4 Remake is obviously a much higher quality and more enjoyable game, but people should never forget the 2005 original.
The problem with the graphics is that the game was AMD sponsored and FSR is really bad at some stuff. I played it on PC and had mod DLSS in for it to look great. Game's beautiful. I bought the RPG and didn't remember to use it....
I think people forget that these voice actors are directed. They are told how to speak, what type of mannerisms are expected etc. For Ada to sound like that, someone told her to sound that way. I'm not saying to go give whoever the director was shit for allowing Ada to sound like that, just try to understand what actually happens in a studio before you embarrass yourself.
Well 2 of the 3 said they like RE4 more so lol at that. Dead Space wouldn't exist without RE4 Glenn Schofield said it himself. I love Dead Space but RE4 is the masterclasses.
