The most unbelievable part of The Walking Dead was that Atlanta wasn’t completely covered in Kudzu after the collapse of the government.

I grew and live half an hour from Cythiana KY (where the writier of the walking dead comic is from) and it is not nearly as bad a problem here as it is just 45 minutes south or east. It probably never crossed her mind as it's just a little invasive and not the plague it is in the Eastern or more southern parts of the state, and across the rest of the south

Psalm 22 "My God My God why have you forsaken me?.... bulls of bashan surround me they pierce my hands and feet.... they cast lots for my garments... "“He trusts in the Lord,” they say,
      “let the Lord rescue him.(R)
      Let him deliver him,(S)
since he delights(T) in him.” "I am poured out like water" etc like with other passages in the psalms, genesis, (including theophany appearances in the torah) Isaiah, Zechariah, Daniel, Proverbs etc are considered messianic in rabbinic Judaism as the suffering servant messiah Ben Joseph, and to Christianity as Yeshua, Jesus bless you ❤
Edit: To expand on this is of course Isaiah 53 where you have the servant being crushed by God as an offering for sin for others, who dies and sees life and his seed afterwards, who dies with thieves and in a rich man's tomb, and who was despised and rejected, so why there is a common view of two messiahs, Ben yosef and Ben David, one messiah as the suffering servant and another as the conqueror who sets up the kingdom. Isaiah 52 the messiah draws Israel back to himself.
Some fun and sad things are like people would say Jesus didn't exist despite Tacitus, Suetonius, Pliny the younger, Lucian etc and the apostles writings and the successors/church fathers of the apostles/bishops writings and josephus, because "Nazareth doesn't exist" until of course Nazareth was discovered, or another one, "there was no synagogue in capnernaum" until we found it, or Thomas Payne in age of reason "Bible is false because there were no kings during Jesus's time" until we found King Herod Agrippa's coins, or "Jesus wasn't buried in a tomb because crucifixion victims weren't buried in tombs" until we found crucifixion victims with the nails still in tombs in tombs.
More cool things, are Jesus sweating blood in the garden of Gethsemane, this is a real phenomenon called Hematidrosis where death row inmates sweat blood, also another when Jesus is pierced and water and blood come out this actually happens when water builds around the lungs, it confused some early church fathers on the spiritual meaning, but it's a real phenomenon that occurs as well. Many rabbis into gematria etc say there is a curse upon reading Daniel 9 because it says Messiah The Prince must come and bring in eternal righteousness before the destruction of Solomon's temple, no wonder they say that as then if Messiah didn't come before 70 a.d. there is no messiah, those who have divided messiah into two were confused if the messiah would come riding on a donkey or horse, so the two messiahs, as opposed to the jews who believe in Jesus and himself, who state himself and two arrivals. Of course this is why Islam falls quickly because while they call Jesus messiah they don't understand what it means, and Muhammad of course denied the historical fact of Jesus dying by crucifixion (Which besides tacitus mentioning pontius pilate doing it to him, we even have an inscription that was uncovered oh pilate and dates lining up with his time being the procurator/prefect over Jerusalem) besides Muhammad being the total opposite of Jesus, Muhammad had sex with his child bride Aisha who was nine, he beheaded and crucified people, said not to trust jews and Christians, he had Ethiopian slaves and called them raisin heads, he called jews monkeys and rats, he slaughtered villages and the wives of families he killed said you can take them and have sex with them, he got caught having sex with his slave by Aisha and said he would not do it anymore then conveniently "Allah" comes and says it's fine and he can, he's a textbook false prophet, with of course takiyah being they will lie to you about what I said above, Islam is meant to subjugate the world I'd into belief by force, if you don't convert you must pay a tax, if you don't pay it you die. Allah has no love for unbelievers unlike Jesus who loves his enemies and we are meant to love all even to death, I'd write more but youtube doesn't like long messages, with eastern thought eternal universe doesn't fit the mold because and infinite amount of successive events becoming then impossible to have the present, we would never reach today because we would always have a yesterday or event before this moment, an immaterial, spaceless, timeless, mind (agency) bringing space-time into reality, is the best explanation for why anything exists including someone as amazing and as lovely as yourself 😊 So the disciples who say "For we did not follow cleverly devised stories when we told you about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in power, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty." And "13If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. 14And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is worthless, and so is your faith. 15In that case, we are also exposed as false witnesses about God. For we have testified about God that He raised Christ from the dead, but He did not raise Him if in fact the dead are not raised.
16For if the dead are not raised, then not even Christ has been raised. 17And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. 18Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. 19If our hope in Christ is for this life alone, we are to be pitied more than all men. But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep." Since the witnesses knew whether or not they were lying and knew what it would mean to continue to say he did in fact rise and is the Messiah and God in the flesh then yes I believe them as The Messiah had to come during that time, a mind/agency creating the universe is the best cause for reality, Jesus is the most moral, truthful and charismatic and loving and honest person there is, and the most important and influential, (Buddha said he was still searching for truth, Jesus say, "I am the truth, the way and the life") Jesus gives us love and salvation as a gift without earned merit by us, not working our way to the truth or God or eternal destiny through every other religious and spiritual framework, he loves you and cares so much for you before he created you and wants a living relationship with you here and now not just after you die 😊 There's a million other things to cover that I want to say but this is probably a good stopping point but Jesis wants to remove the shadow in your life and Jesus wants you as you are right now he wants your heart and to live in you and you to know his love personally 😊 I had people prophesy over me very specific things nobody else knew about my past, things I was thinking or experienced even just the day before, Jesus healed me of sleep paralysis I had for years, depression and loneliness, I had a dream of a woman named Heather and a voice telling me their dad had died, a couple days later i meet them and they tell me about how they had just lost their dad that week, I feel God telling me to sit down and close my eyes and I see an outline of someone going to the bathroom very bizarre, then shortly after someone out of the blue asking me to pray for them as they are having trouble going to the bathroom, another was I ask Jesus alone "are you my buddy?" A couple hours later someone contacts me and they say "Yes Jesus is saying yes he is your buddy" another time was I obsessing a little over this blue suit and someone prophecies "I see you in this blue suit" etc, another time I was testing this whole thing and I'm about to be prophecied over and I have my Google notes out I had tried writing out a little story and it was about a fire and forest being burnt down and I ask God to confirm if he wants me to write this and sort of as a test because everything had been scary accurate and the person right after says "God wants you to be his little stick lit ablaze with his love, it may not seem like much but one small flame can burn down a whole forest" 😂 another one was I had this. Surreal vision looking at stars, shortly after someone messages me saying Jesus is looking at a telescope with you saying to you "everything I have is yours even the stars" another one I was in the bathroom asking God for a message for my friend Moses in Nigeria and as I'm leaving the bathroom i freeze in place and go into this bizarre trance like Peter in the book of acts and I see my friend Moses as a child playing with a toy firetruck and Jesus sitting next to him with love, I quickly tell them and they are in shock as they had just thrown away that toy that same day, another time I had gotten a word from God about someone close to me who hadn't accepted Jesus and that they had been praying to God secretly, I told them that and the look on their face was priceless as I had no idea they had been praying to God at all, they were shook 😄 this is only a handful of many a 100 times in just the last 12 months after 5 years of me being born again, there's so many more amazing things that have happened but you are beautiful and desired of God, he is a gentleman and will not force you to choose him or love him but he loves so so much, he's asking you if you will come, he will love you and cherish you everyday of your life, he will never abandon you, I beg you to take a chance and not reject God's love for you, he wants to heal you and you to enjoy a living relationship between you, God bless you so much, Jesus says to come to him for rest your weary soul he is humble and meek and tender and gentle, he loves you so much he knows everything about you, nothing about you is unimportant to him 😭❤❤ If you repent and call on his name you will be saved from hell and Jesus's wrath and judgement for all have sinned!! ❤ For God so loved The World that gave his only begotten son that whoever should believe in him will not perish but have eternal life!! 💙🙌🏻 repent all have sinned and fallen short!!❤️‍🔥❤♥️

I killed an acre of kudzu in about 6 weeks. Here's how:
I went to the florist desk at my local supermarket and acquired six of the little vials which get filled with water and attached to the bottom of a single rose, so it will stay fresh until you get it home. You can buy them in bulk online.
I sprayed them with bright orange paint, so I would be able to find them among the vegetation.
I filled them with herbicide and attached them at distances about ten feet apart. I simply severed the kudzu vine and attached them. Be sure the vine is submerged into the herbicide. I had to weigh some down with rocks so the liquid wouldn't spill out.
Very quickly you will see a trail of brown, dying kudzu, meandering through the patch.
Refill and relocate the vials as necessary. You'll be surprised how efficiently the plant drinks up the poison and distributes it.
I also use this method to kill invasive plants which are near to, or integrated with food crops or ornamental plantings. I killed invasive climbing vines that were slowly harming a beautiful tree.
DON'T FORGET TO PAINT THE VIALS A BRIGHT COLOR! Cheers.

A better biological weapon is bamboo if you’re in a temperate climate, bananas if you’re in a tropical climate.
Source: I live in a tropical climate, and it took me YEARS of hard work to eliminate the bananas and bamboo from my yard. They are both lovely if you can control them (with a 3-4 foot deep barricade that you put in the soil as a way to stop the spread of the rhizomes) but a nightmare if you don’t want them.
It’s not very nice. Maybe use some blackberries or raspberries. They at least have some benefit, right? “I was just trying to help!”

@@sippigrrrlI live in the Midwest and we have banana trees in our backyard to add scenery to our pool. It’s crazy how resilient they are. The summers here are very hot and nearly tropical with how humid it is, so the banana trees absolutely thrive and reproduce bulbs like crazy, so much so that we dig up the extra bulbs and give them to friends to plant in their yards for scenery. The winters, however, are very cold and dry (can get into the negatives in Fahrenheit sometimes), and the banana trees die off, but the bulbs themselves stay in the ground. Without any maintenance to the soil or banana trees whatsoever, those things grow right back up in the summer like nothing ever happened, and they’ve done this without fail for the past 10 years we’ve had them. It’s absurd how resilient they are, and I can’t imagine how crazy they get when placed in a climate that’s tropical year-round.

I used a propane torch to clear a center area then brought goats in. giving the goats access to water and free choice mineral (to ensure proper nutrition) and no other feed, it took 15 nubian goats 4 months to completely clear the kudzu. I used cattle panels to keep them close to the old falling down house to clear that section first. by the time we finished rebuilding the house the goats had cleared the kudzu. goats are the way to go for farmers and land owners

As a kid in the 80s and 90s my first memory of Kudzu, was a card in the game "Magic the Gathering", it was a card with the effect, "Destroy target land". I saw a big patch of it in a ravine/forest one day as a probably 9 year old kid, asked my dad what it was because it covered everything. He told me it was called Kudzu, I then told him about that Magic playing card, and he said "Yep that's about what it does".

I am from Mississippi and kudzu represents the creeping sadness of the passage of time for me.
When I was growing up, it covered forgotten shacks, old cars, shut down businesses, and other neglected things that time passed over. Signs that life was once here, maybe vibrance and fun but not any longer. Just you and the vines in this middle of nowhere town.
Now that I am in my 30's, every time I return home, kudzu has claimed another one of my old hang outs. Growing over it and rendering it inaccessible or inoperable, much like the memories are to me now. They are there but they will never be the same.
Kudzu is a horribly depressing thing for me.

And if you're in one of the areas where there are several root systems you can be completely swallowed by one while you're asleep. Like if you have this growing on your house and you have your window open and your baby crib next to the open window theoretically it could come in and completely swamp the baby and crib overnight. Sure you can probably just like kick your way out but if your legs are tangled up so you can't move them or whatever you're trapped. That's what I heard, not that it will actually strangle you like it's sentient.

One time I went to embark down a hill to get to a hole that was 200 feet in front of me. I stuck my foot forward slowly into the kudzu and almost fell. I couldn't get my footing. then it hit me. The kudzu had grown up the cliffside and around some huge white oak trees and had completely covered them, creating a false ground making a sheer drop look like a gentle slope. I nearly fell 80 ft possibly to my death. fucking terrifying, and it wasn't the first or last time I dealt with it. Just a day. As a kid I had a friend that lived in a supposedly haunted house. It was definitely a crappy house. The landlord kept fixing things just for three same problem to happen again. In particular the black mold was constantly mentioned in her complaints. A patch on a wall that had been torn out and bleached and rebuilt but the mold came back immediately anyway. After some years they moved and the owner tried to tear the house down, but any equipment that came near it immediately stopped working. So he abandoned it. Nearby a forest was being swallowed by kudzu. In two years the house was completely covered. Somebody bought the property and with the help of the fire department they burned down the kudzu, forest, and house. Now the entire area is a field, beans I think, like nothing ever happened.

I live in Louisiana. I hadn't thought about kudzu in years, up until this past Christmas season.
My great-grandmother (Grama without a d, that was always how she spelled it on our birthday cards) lived up a small hill from her daughter, in a little butter yellow house. The woods around the house were covered in kudzu, closing it in. To a little kid of six years old, it was imposing. Mom always told me to never go out in it, since you could never tell if there was a hole in the forest floor underneath the vines. Because of that, it always gave me an uneasy feeling to visit Grama up on the hill, like something could just reach out and grab me from the dense, endless tangle of vines. My mamaw, Grama's daughter, eventually had to sell the house when Grama started getting up in years and developing dementia. Even as a kid, I was sad to see it go.
So, present day. Far back behind their houses, on top of the hill, was a cemetery park that's still there to this day. The town has a cute little Christmas parade every year, so me and my friends from college decided to go, since it was a huge nostalgia trip for me and another girl in our group, who grew up in that town. We walked through the cemetery park to kill time beforehand, and thankfully, the kudzu has mostly been beaten back from that area.
But as I neared the top of the hill, I could look down into the town, and I realized we weren't far from Grama's house. Then I saw a glimpse of butter yellow paint.
Something in my stomach just sank when I realized I was looking directly at the house. It was completely swallowed up by kudzu. I just kinda stood there misty eyed for a while. So many memories underneath that mass of greenery.
And now this video has jogged my memory again. I miss you, Grama. I'll see you again one day.

As an ecologist, this is really awesome to see. If more people knew the damage that invasive species cause to native wildlife and fragile ecosystems, I feel like they would care more to do something about it. It's really as simple as knowing what's invasive and creating a removal plan. Myself and a couple of buddies will clear stuff from the sides of highways in our free time, we dont have permission to do so, but we do it anyway. I swear, If people just started to care about their local environment more, and made efforts to affect it on a micro scale, eventually there would be positive change on the macro scale. You don't need a college degree to identify invasive species and remove them, you can make huge impacts on native ecosystems if you have some free time and the right determination. It also doesn't hurt to have some like minded friends and a cooler of beer. Thank you Wendigoon for making a video on a topic that is unfortunately not well known to the mass public.

It's just so interesting! I hope you didn't get hurt, though. I know vines can give you bruises, rope burns and such, and also 15 feet is a lot.

I fought a war with Kudzu every summer my whole adolescence. My dad had some property with a tv tower on it. He made me mix round up with diesel fuel. Even when the leaves and surface vines died, the roots would always allow it to grow back. The roots were what you had to destroy. You had to dig and axe several tree sized living roots and even then it might come back. You basically had to remove the roots from the topsoil. Very difficult to eradicate.

My Dad was a salesman for PBI Gordon, a herbicide/insecticide company. They make a product for killing many different broadleaf vines including kudzu/poison ivy/poison oak. It pretty safe to use, doesn’t kill the grass or any other plants it doesn’t target because it’s some sort of enzyme that speeds up the growth so fast that it causes these vines to grow themselves to death. Pretty neat! Because it’s an enzyme it’s less than toxic to humans and animals too, very targeted at these vines. Here in NC kudzu is big problem too. I have seen some kudzu reclamation projects though, one in Belmont NC on the east side of the highway 74 bridge. They cleared out a whole side of the river and turned it into a park.

All herbicides and insecticides are considered safe when they're first created. Then about thirty or forty years later we start to see their downsides. DDT was considered so safe they would spray it directly onto kids. Then we learned of the horrifying health effects it has on humans over the long term, and we had the Silent Spring issues.
Sort of like kudzu itself. It seemed like a godsend at the time. Everyone thought it was a great idea. They started spreading it around everywhere, totally unsuspecting of the problems that would arise a few decades later.
As they say, if we can learn anything from history, it's that humans don't learn anything from history.
I like the idea of goats much better. At least goats are a known entity. We have thousands of years of experience with goats. And if things get out of hand, lamb chops are delicious.

Hopefully no one in these comments gets too twisted about me saying this. I fully believe that kudzu's introduction into a non native environment was a lousy idea. It’s all over privately and publicly owned buildings and properties. How would it be harvested regularly in a way that doesn’t inconvenience the property owners and others? How could it be harvested in a way that ensures whatever company is doing the harvesting is constantly getting sued for accidental damages to the property (damages would be inevitable)? How could it be harvested in a timely fashion? It’s all over the place, not all grouped together like typical agriculture. I just don’t know how it could be done in a way that makes sense for any company.

Seriously, it can’t be overstated how much kudzu there is everywhere you look. I think my favorite part of the story is that even when faced with an almost impossible situation: can't kill it, can't move it, it overwhelms everything it touches, can't do anything with it ... people didn't give up. They kept on fighting it, slowly and diligently, and developed a means to hold it back and use it to their advantage. That really showcases the best parts of humanity and our overall resilience and determination. We have come as far as we have because we just kept bidding our time, working diligently, maintaining our resolve and essentially using our big brains to keep figuring out how to make lemonade out of lemons ...

I remember playing a game called SimPark when I was a kid and like the other Sim games there's a bunch of different disasters that can strike your park, one of them was Kudzu. It would start as one square and you would use the shovel to remove it and then it would disappear for a bit then come back in the surrounding squares. The only way to get rid of it was to remove anything within a certain radius of it. So my memories of Kudzu are hating it because it destroyed big parts of my park on SimPark.

There was a stretch of road with 3 or 4 trailer homes right off the main road at the bottom of a little valley. Behind the homes when looking up the hill, it was like looking into a field of green carpet. It had grown over all the trees turning them into these really weird lumpy green pillars, and even some of the telephone/power lines. In my mind, the little gathering of homes was like the last hold out keeping the kudzu from crossing the road and swallowing the neighborhood. I worked for an Agricultural conservation group in the 1980s, that was hired by the State of Florida Agricultural Division revitalization of beaches and intercoastal waterways. At one time that is all we did was remove the Kudzu vine from everywhere it was or it existed. It was introduced in the 40s to the Gulf Coast to help beach erosion. But as it is it took over killing Mangroves and everything under it. It makes a canopy over everything and crushes it. You're right, it is a beast to remove and kill off. I've removed some of it were it was the size of a large tree 4ft round. I had buckets of Roundup paste to paint the stumps and it just grew around it. We go back monthly to keep it at bay. A nightmare of a plant. Tear up heavy equipment from trying to pull it down without damaging the native plants of Florida.

I had the displeasure of encountering and learning about kudzu when I started my first real job doing cultural resource management in Mississippi.
Being stuck in the suburbs for a big chunk of my life in North Texas I never had the opportunity to learn about kudzu until I saw it in person back in September.
The real fun thing about this fucking vine is that it'll hide little potholes and if you're lucky will hide a BARB WIRE FENCE in the field. It's like walking on an endless sea of foliage with no soil to walk on ever.
The most memorable experience I had with this monster was when me and the crew I was in had to get past a patch on the side of a road, the way it slopes like that beside a road? That's because it's growing between trees and a forest floor it forms a canvas over, we soon learned. The guy at the front of the group realizes he's seeing holes in the patch that drop like 12 feet into a forest completely obscured by the kudzu and that we just walked into a kudzu fall minefield.
    It's a goddamn demon vine.
What's doubly fun is kudzu isn't the only invasive east Asian plant that was invasive and introduced by people obsessed with cultivating foreign plants. Bamboo is also a common find in Mississippi where you'll find it suddenly overgrowing a pine or deciduous forest. Because that state has environmental conditions close enough to like, Vietnam, or Japan, so this problem gets exacerbated because bamboo and kudzu loves the southeast environmentally.

I'm from southeast Tennessee, if you drive around this region and look off into the vines along the side of the road you'll see thousands of houses, trailers, and vehicles peaking out from the mass of Kudzu. You'll find patches where it bridges the space between trees, creating these blobs on the landscape that look remarkably alien in low light. It has irreparably damaged our ecosystem, but I'd still be sad if the vines that drape over the walls of Chattanooga and Red Bank disappeared tomorrow. It gives our cities character.

living in alabama i grew up surrounded by kudzu everywhere i went, but i have this vivid memory of specifically whenever we’d go to one specific walmart there was this HUGE cliff of it that stretched all the way down that highway that led to the walmart, and i was never told of the dangers or that it would snatch me up so i wasn’t ever afraid of it, i just found it so cool and always wanted to climb it but of course i never did. even now when we drive by that huge space of kudzu i get all nostalgic and honestly i can’t ever see myself being afraid of it, yeah it overtaking abandoned buildings is pretty spooky but there’s something so interesting about how stubborn of a vine it is that i just love

As an Australian I had absolutely no idea of the scale of Kudzu infestation in the south eastern US. Also as an Australian (particularly a Queenslander), I can absolutely sympathise with communities having to deal with the consequences of the introduction of an invasive species which was supposed to be a boon to local agriculture. Glad to see you guys are finding some productive uses for Kudzu

In my downtown, there was an old house that was built and stood for years. It was swallowed entirely by Kudzu. I remember driving past it as a kid, and I was always in awe at the sight. Right outside the country club in my town, there is a gigantic wall of kudzu, I always think how it looks like a jungle!
Oh! In my backyard as a kid, we had a ton of woods, I'd go in every day and play and explore, I remember playing in the kudzu for hours. Just being fascinated by the growth. It really does climb a mile a minute. What a plant.
When I was in college, I remember seeing beautiful artwork about Kudzu. It's fierce but beautiful to me.

helen's library has a swath of kudzu growing right behind it, so when i was little i was fascinated by that vine with grape-scented flowers, huge leaves, and fuzzy shoots that never harboured as many bugs as the rest of the woods did. i remember walking right into the thicket feeling like i was in a fairytale because it was so exotic, and i think i even laid down on a spot where the vines were so dense they could support my weight. it's the definition of a noxious weed but i do appreciate getting to experience it more as a gentle giant instead of a smothering blight, because in the end, it's just a plant taking advantage of what it sees as perfect conditions.

I live in the Mid-Cities area of Texas. This stuff is everywhere. I've been to houses that are in disrepair due to negligence from the home owners (oftentimes due to old age but not always) and this stuff absolutely covers entire sides of the home, fences covered in vines, the grass gets overtaken by it and trees get covered by it. Usually not all of those things at once but I have seen it happen. One house I maintain the termite protection on had gone about 5 years without any pruning being done to the vegetation around her home. I literally couldn't open her gate because Kudzu was holding it closed and just a year prior it was covered but not so bad it couldn't be torn.

A neighbor directly behind my house planted a Japanese vine plant with pretty purple flowers with heart shaped leaves. 20 years later, the neighbor has moved away and the new people have completely graveled their yard. My yard has this damn vine STILL. No matter how many 30 ft long ropey vines I pull out it always comes back. The leaves from the vine can sprout roots, and an inch of the vine will sprout roots. Its crazy, like an alien from another planet.

When I lived in Lynchburg and worked in Big Island (on the James River) I would go up US501 every morning, crossing the ridge at Eagle Eyrie where a power line crossed US501. There was Kudzu on the NE side climbing across on the power line. In the fall it would be almost completely across, then winter weather would set in and it would die back. In the spring the strands would once again begin the crossing. In the 8 years I was there, each year it seemed to get a little further across.

I think I'm able to grasp it now. You have a unique way to accentuate the relevance of the subjects you're covering. When you tell us about the place you grew up, the stories your grandfather used to tell you, it adds a layer of familiarity to the whole discourse. You're videos aren't a compilation of info, they have your own personal feeling intertwined to the script. That is what I think defines your talent as a spokesperson. You're not trying to be someone you are not, and also not concealing who you truly are. i’ve had good experiences with kudzu. at the last house i lived at it had overtaken over half of the yard, and there was this old beautiful tree that it had overtaken in the summer of the year i moved in. i lived there through the winter and the kudzu died, and in the spring as it started to grow back it began to grow up the tree, i cut it back a few times and finally i very kindly asked it to leave the tree alone. i referenced other places that i was happy to have it overtake, but just that the tree was so old and deserved to live too, as well as the kudzu. it didn’t attempt to grow up it again and didn’t through the whole summer
