Did your artist use Saran Wrap? Mine used a second skin which you keep on for up to 24 hours. Take it off in a hot shower, clean and dry the fresh tattoo, then reapply a new bandage. Keep this bandage on for 5 days. This works super well and really helps with the itching and healing process, especially if you are a tradesman like me who works in an often dirty environment. Highly reccomend that method.
Got my first tattoo yesterday, took 4,5 hours of pain😂 My artist told me one hour plastic wrapping, clean it off and the wrapping only for the first two nights, when sleeping. If your tattoo gets too wet, which is why too much wrapping is harmful, you can develop inksacs under your skin. It‘s important to get fresh air. The cream is supposed to be applied after day two as well.
Got my first one yesterday. 6 and a half hours of needle time ✌✌ I've got my aftercare instructions but I was curious abt other methods so here i am :D
My artist has me keep it wrapped for 3 whole days with “second” skin. (I don’t get it wet for 3 days). Then twice a day wash it with “SpectroGel Purple” and apply unscented lotion as needed and to not peel it. Different way of doing it (and he’s as good as tour artist who is very good) cool video!

The tattoo is stunning man! Thank you so much for this series of videos I came when I got my first tattoo and I’m rewatching for the second one I just got today youve really helped me out ☺️
The drying out for half an hour part is so important! Here is what I did.. Day of tattoo Leave wrap on untill bed, wash with luke warm water and tattoo soap, pat dry with kitchen towel sheets, leave for the night. Day 1 - 4 Wash with luke warm water, pat dry with kitchen towel sheets, leave for half an hour and then apply bepanthan. Day 5 - 9 Leave alone for the natural healing process (when peeling and scabs start. Washing and adding moisturiser can potentially cause tattoo bubbling at this point so I just left my arm alone) Day 9 or 10 Wash, pat dry, wait half an hour and apply moisturising lotion.
@@gamelife0196 It's not what I would advise as similiar to the wrap it's preventing your skin from properly breathing and at day zero it's an open wound almost. Nothing to worry about though as many do leave the wraps on over night and apply ointment straight away. Guessing you have had the ointment on now for 6 + hours now so I would wash it and follow the instructions in my first step (day of tattoo) but once you have washed it wait 8 hours (or if it is night time for you, over night) before applying any ointment

This video is such a life saver, I am getting a tattoo in a month and I'm trying to research as much as I can and I've been looking for a video like this
Ointment should be applied by the artist after the tattoo is done to help clot up the wounded skin. Then, you want to let it dry out. I would recommend putting minimal ointment or cream for a day or two. Personally, I recommend cream because people tend to put too much ointment on, which turns the scabs to mush and draws out the ink. Cream doesn't do that but needs to be applied more often. The brand doesn't really matter. Just make sure it has A and D vitamins, which help the skin heal. Keep the tattooed surface out of the sun, UV light will fade the ink, and wounded skin is more susceptible to sunburns. Avoid standing water. No swimming. Showers instead of baths. Don't pick the scabs. It should take 2 weeks for the surface to fully heal. It may take longer for people with autoimmune conditions.
Hey Man, I just got a tattoo on my thigh on the 5th. I’ve been away from the gym due to letting my leg recover. How long do I wait until I can officially go back and train legs? Thank you in advanced!
See my artist said when you get home you can take the wrap off and I used shea butter it made it simple I only wrapped it for work and sleep the first couple days he is right tho many ways to take care of a new tattoo just depends on the artist, amazing tattoo ❤️
I do the exact same as this. Take off and clean after 5 hours of tattoo. Re cover for the night. Wake up. Take off cover. Clean again. Dry. Then begin creaming.

Thank you for this video. Your tattoo looks absolutely gorgeous! I am getting my very first tattoo next month so learning as much as i can so i dont screw it up haha
I wouldn't use a bar of soap or it has to be a new one. I'm afraid it's getting dirty by putting it somewhere unprotected or it's still dirty from the last time you used it. Antibacterial soap (unscented) from a bottle is my way to go with a fresh tattoo. Cheers
I always wash my hands with the bar before washing the tattoo so you get anything off the surface before applying. But yeah using the soap from the bottle would be another option that’s probably a better choice 👌🏽
@@justinkd it's something small and a soap bar definitely couldn't harm the tattoo. But hey with that of a investment (time, a lot of money, pain) investing in this little things shouldn't be a headache. Better be safe then sorry. By the way love the video's. Was binge watching them the other day before my session this week. My artist work with sessions of max 5 hours. Do you have experience with artists with hour limits each session?
Just finished my lower half of my sleeve and I had almost no blood, ink or plasma. My tattoo artist finished my tattoo and didn’t wrap it or even put anything on it. Just wiped it down with green soap and told me to let it air dry for a couple hours then wash it and apply a+d ointment very thinly every 8ish hours and do that for 2 weeks and I’d be all set after that
My artist apply Saniderm after tattoo. Leave on for 24hrs. Take off Saniderm wash it with unscentedd soap. Lest it dry and apply a clean sheet of Saniderm and leave it on for 4 days. This keeps you from having to wash it and apply lotion 3-4 day. That’s a hassle. Saniderm is the way to go
Hello. I find it quite bizarre, that no one seems to recommend putting an ice pack on the tattoo. It’s a wound, so you need to control the swelling right? Awesome tattoo, btw!
@@justinkd I just had a calf sleeve done, and my ankles have swollen. Normal reaction. So I’m putting an ice pack on it. Seems to relieve the pain and swelling..I refuse to use any drugs.
I do things completely differently! I leave the foil on for 4 to five hours. Then wash the tattoo with soap - just like you. Then i apply creme and don't use any foil anymore. I have found that without the foil, the wound will incrustinate, whereas with the foil it stays moist, which delays the healing process. Cool video to watch, though 🤙🏻 but Bro, using the same foil again? Iuhhhh
Just got my first tattoo today, my artist told me i could take the plastic covering it off when i got home but isn't having it on for overnight or at least a couple hours better?
You’re supposed to take it off about 2-4 hours after it’s done to clean it but I would recommend putting a new one back on just for the night so it’s not sticking to bedsheets or clothing and also acting as another barrier from bacteria
@@justinkd only prob I think I have is on day 0 after washing it before I went to bed I put alot of a&d oitment on(didn't know better at the time)+ a plastic wrap. then the next morning it seems it got too much moisture in it and I think alot of the color came out
@@justinkd man it was great i got like a venomous snake on my lower arm for years i thought it was gonna hurt like crazy but it didn’t so I’m definitely gettin more next month
Very informative. In the process of getting a japanese style hikae tattoo soon. My artist has already penciled me in for a few sessions at two weeks apart each. Question: would it be okay to workout a week after each session or just not workout (weight train, cardio, etc.) At all until the entire process is conplete which will probably be in a month?
Just got my first decent sized piece and this is going to be huge for me. 2 8 hr sessions to complete this one. Next appointment aug 22 then sep to hopefully finish up my sleeve !!!
I have a question. When you get a tattoo that goes alongside your inner arm (that reaches under the armpit) how can you prevent it from rubbing on clothing? I walk dogs and also work in restaurant so my arms tend to move a lot and touch my skin. Thank for the video! And I love your tattoo!
Covering it again with plastic doesn’t let your skin breathe. So instead you can use the second skin like dermalise, saniderm. And leave it for a day and replace it the next day after cleaning all the plasma. And now keep it for 5 days at least. And you are done with the initial healing process.
I'm getting work done in September. I'm thinking about using saniderm, but my lower leg tattoo is going to be done throughout three days, so I don't know if that complicates things
I wouldn’t use the saniderm in this case because you’ll be getting it done in the 3 days back to back. You could still use it but I think it’s better to just use the regular plastic wrap, keep it on for the day and once the whole things done... then use the saniderm
No unfortunately I haven't used that yet. Hopefully I can use it soon so I can review it and have a video up aswell talking about it and the experience. Hearing great things 👌🏼
HIGHLY recommend - you just leave the first wrap on for 4 days, remove in shower, rinse gently with unscented soap, then apply another wrap for 3 days. Game changer
I got mine 2 days ago. The artist didn't want to wrap up my arm and told me to wait 3 say till I wash it. I didn't feel any pain when I got my tat but now my arm's starting to sting.
That’s a first but all artists have a certain way for aftercare with their work. I’d say for you to wash It just to get all that plasma and stuff off. And yeah it’s going to sting and hurt for the next couple days 😅
After 12 hours I removed 2nd skin...usually did in shower..used hand to lightly wash with non scented soap aveeno..then let air dried.......then aveeno unscented lotion...about 3 times aday....lightly used....I did this for 22 weeks..every Wednesday went to my tattoos..artist..3 1/2 to 4 to 5 hours each week..then after a about 65 + hours I finished both arms...full sleeve...I paid about 85.hr...always 20 to 40 tip. Each week...i told him about a design but gave him full resins of the designs..I asked for afew things and he did ok...but also declined on things i thought were nice ...but in the end I have an outstanding balance of design which flows and was done by one tattoo artist ...I never was concerned about a budget...if you want a good full sleeves you should have a minimum of 4k....just saying....
Just got my tattoo no less that 24 hours ago and my artist said to leave the film on for 3 days and then I’m good to take it off, and do things like jormal
Awesome tattoo man! Appreciate the video but I’m not sure why you would clean the tattoo and then put the dirty wrap back on it. Doesn’t make much sense to me
Have you heard of saniderm? My artist applies that right after. Leave it on forv5 days take it off most of the healing is done just have to lotion it. Love it!!! So much easier to take care of tattoos now
My artist was right once you start there’s no stopping getting a tattoo. I’m already on 5 but there all small. He said on the 3rd day is when I take it off and clean it. I saw this video last year for my 4th one. Of my cats paw print.
I cannot put my chest under the faucet lol. But, I do somewhat the same. I had a name (my cat's name) and his date of Birth and the date he had to be slept in on my chest, with two crosses next to it (one on the left, one on the right). Also he put two paw prints on my chest of my cat. I love the piece! I'm very happy with it. It is an very emotional tattoo to me. But that's a different story. I will actually never say someone is doing it wrong. Because there's so many methods of letting your tattoo heal. But, my artist didn't put anythang on my chest. So he just said ''it might leave some blood, ink and wound fluid on your clothes, so you might wanna think about this when picking your clothes (I was wearing an expensive jersey, but I also had a cheapo ass t-shirt under it lol). I do have to wash it with soap (like you said, unperfumed and non alcoholic) and then pat it dry gently, afterwards I have to rub some Unicura Balance 2 on it (which don't exzists no more, so I took Unicure 1 instead, otherwise it would be Unicura with alcohol and stuff, you don't want this). Also, I should not put plastic on it he said. Indeed, a tattoo is an open wound. But, every open wound, heals way faster in the open! So, unless you're working in a very filthy place (for example, in the mines) I would not place anythang on the tattoo. After three day's of rubbing Unicura on it, he said to use Vaseline intensive care body lotion for the next 3 weeks. It might sound weird, vaseline. Because vaseline isolates a lot. But not the body lotion. It gets rubbed on, and it immediately gets into your skin. But, this is what my artist says, and what my own expirience is like. My tattoo before my last one, did got plastic foil on it. But he don't do this anymore now. It heals way faster without anythang on it. Keep on doing what you're doin' my guy. I love the video as I was actually looking how everytbody else is washing their tattoo. Because I used to do it with a wash cloth and soap, but I started using my (clean) hand instead of the washing cloth, because this felt weird because it's rubbing way too hard, and you don't want that. I love the tattoo though, it's not really my style, or the thing I would place in my body. But it does look nice on you (tattoos are very personal always). Anyway, thanks for the info, because while I won't use the plastic advice you gave, I will use the washing with only my bare hand. Peace out, and keep on inking ;) (it's addicting!)

Just letting you all know that you don’t necessarily have to follow this. Everyone has different ways of doing after care
Ofcourse not. This is just MY way that I treat a tattoo and seem to have great results by doing so
@@justinkd I just got my tattoo 2 days ago and there are still black “plasma” ig coming of of it, is it supposed to “shed” for this long?
Yeah that’s fine, should be done after today. Just continue to wash and apply a think layer of healing ointment

That shit is dope AF, incredible piece of art.
Thank you Camilo 🔥👊🏼

Hope it’s able to help you out bro 👊🏼
This video is such a life saver, I am getting a tattoo in a month and I'm trying to research as much as I can and I've been looking for a video like this
Just got my first tattoo yesterday. Came out sick! This video helped me thank h
I just got my first huge tat yesterday and I agree this video helped
@@blanecheru6827 nice what was it?
I just got one yesterday it felt amazing cleaning it off I also got a vitamin a&d ointment to keep it from drying
I love the tattoo. Fantastic design and excellent craftsmanship. Thanks for showing the aftercare video. Keep the videos coming. 🙏
These healing videos come in handy
I do the exact same as this. Take off and clean after 5 hours of tattoo. Re cover for the night. Wake up. Take off cover. Clean again. Dry. Then begin creaming.
Just got my first tattoo yesterday, got my face and hands done, looks fire!
Are you saying you got a face and hand tat as your first tattoo? Lmao!!
@@anthonyoskolkoff5625 No, 😆. I just see SO many kids doing that shit tho, I like to comment that like bait for idiots to shine some light on how stupid they really are. I do have my hands done but that was after full sleeves and a full time job. Guess I’m just old now and don’t “get it”
Good info to know. I’m scheduled to start my full sleeve in a few months.
Thank you for this video. Your tattoo looks absolutely gorgeous! I am getting my very first tattoo next month so learning as much as i can so i dont screw it up haha

@@justinkd aww why thanks! I sure hope it turns out well. Lot of meaning behind it.
How have things been going for ya lately?
@@Tansen_ did u get it?
TheRstate I got antibacterial soap but it’s scented :(
i got so scared when he used the soap. I thought you should only use water and a cream 😨
Damn Joe! That Face and Beard on the tattoo looks DOPE bro. Looks real legit
Saniderm is the way to go
I've heard great things about it. Hopefully I get to try it out and experience it for myself 👌🏼👊🏼
Getting my first tattoo next weekend 🤪 😳 watching all the videos to prepare. 🙃🥳
Hello. I find it quite bizarre, that no one seems to recommend putting an ice pack on the tattoo. It’s a wound, so you need to control the swelling right?
Awesome tattoo, btw!
You know I’ve never thought about that but also I’ve never read anything about putting ice on it. I’ll look into it
@@justinkd I just had a calf sleeve done, and my ankles have swollen.
@@justinkd hey man so my artist recommends me to keep it on for a solid week what is your opinion on that?
You must be talking about a second skin correct??
@@justinkd only prob I think I have is on day 0 after washing it before I went to bed I put alot of a&d oitment on(didn't know better at the time)+ a plastic wrap. then the next morning it seems it got too much moisture in it and I think alot of the color came out
The detail of the tattoo is amazing. Looks good

What are you getting done ??
JustINKD Mexica inspired tiger with mexica art and floral design
Very informative. In the process of getting a japanese style hikae tattoo soon. My artist has already penciled me in for a few sessions at two weeks apart each. Question: would it be okay to workout a week after each session or just not workout (weight train, cardio, etc.) At all until the entire process is conplete which will probably be in a month?
Great advice and a FANTASTIC tattoo!! There are tattooist and there are artists...and those tattoos were definitely done by an artist!!
That tattoo looks like the work of BodyWorks. Very nice
One of the dopest piece of art i ever saw.
im triggered on how itchy his arm is going to get in a week 😭😭😭
Just got my first decent sized piece and this is going to be huge for me. 2 8 hr sessions to complete this one. Next appointment aug 22 then sep to hopefully finish up my sleeve !!!
I’ve done those enough to know they suck. And not even the tattooing it’s the numbing feeling of sitting 😂 so make sure to bring a pillow!!
just got my first tattoo on my forearm shit hurt like hell bro 😂 but thanks for the tips for real
Yeah not going to lie or play it off like it didn’t, that area hurt for me to 😅
Got mine today , that shit was another level of pain I did not expect 😂😂😂
Always is 😅😂
I have a question. When you get a tattoo that goes alongside your inner arm (that reaches under the armpit) how can you prevent it from rubbing on clothing? I walk dogs and also work in restaurant so my arms tend to move a lot and touch my skin. Thank for the video! And I love your tattoo!
Needed this ty Hercules 😂
That tattoo is sick as hell. Whoever worked on you skilled it.
Your tattoo is so insane. That's amazing 🧚🏽♀️you are also cute too😁🤗🤭
Lmao simp im just kidding
It is a cool tatto
Dude!!! That tattoo is wicked!!!! 🤩🔥🤩🔥🤩🔥🤩 Great tutorial!!!
Incredible tattoo!! Bravo!!
Covering it again with plastic doesn’t let your skin breathe. So instead you can use the second skin like dermalise, saniderm. And leave it for a day and replace it the next day after cleaning all the plasma. And now keep it for 5 days at least. And you are done with the initial healing process.
Havnt used saniderm yet so I can't really speak but thanks for the comment 👊🏼
Okay but this man is so fine😍 dope tattoos too
Cheers for the advice. That tattoo is outstanding man.
I'm getting work done in September. I'm thinking about using saniderm, but my lower leg tattoo is going to be done throughout three days, so I don't know if that complicates things
I wouldn’t use the saniderm in this case because you’ll be getting it done in the 3 days back to back. You could still use it but I think it’s better to just use the regular plastic wrap, keep it on for the day and once the whole things done... then use the saniderm
wow that tattoo is soooo detailed i love it!!!!
Have you tried Recovery Derm Shield Tattoo Aftercare Bandage? i've used it on my last two tattoos and its works pretty awesome
Link to that wrap?
I normally jump in the shower yeah awhile after getting my tattoos, then rab the cream on. I've never re wrapped it but will next time.
Me: cleaning my tattoo on my ribs and putting a towel in my pants so it catches to water
Genius 🤯
Mine swelling so much and bleeding. Your looks so clean
I tattooed my self but it wasn’t what I expected 😯!

Awesome tattoo man! Appreciate the video but I’m not sure why you would clean the tattoo and then put the dirty wrap back on it. Doesn’t make much sense to me
I usually take a warm shower and put my tattoos under it for 30 seconds or less. It works for me. I use Aquaphor as well.
That’s exactly what you should be doing 👌🏼👊🏼
Have you heard of saniderm? My artist applies that right after. Leave it on forv5 days take it off most of the healing is done just have to lotion it. Love it!!! So much easier to take care of tattoos now
Check my latest videos and you see how I feel about saniderm

Once you take off the wrapping paper never put it back on
Yeah best to put a new one on but if not, you're still able to get away with the old one
This video has helped me with my previous tattoos and they all came out perfectly fine.
Means a lot to know that even years later. This video is still helping people out and healing tattoos perfectly 🙏🏼👊🏼
My artist was right once you start there’s no stopping getting a tattoo. I’m already on 5 but there all small. He said on the 3rd day is when I take it off and clean it. I saw this video last year for my 4th one. Of my cats paw print.
2022 here!! Thank you for this. I got my first tattoo and this video helped a lot!!
Isnt it goin peel on you
It starts peeling on about day 3
bro i love you tattoo man , looking cool !👍🏽
Do I clean it when it pills?
Let it peal naturally, continue to just wash and moisturizer over it
I think it’s hilarious that you both managed to misspell ‘peel’
Lmaoo I’ll blame mine on autocorrect
