    I remember a cadaver I had the opportunity learn from years ago. They had multiple tattoos on their body. Remember our TA pulling the skin back so we could see the tattoo on dermis. What we didn't expect was seeing evidence of the tattoo ink embedded in the muscle layer. It wasn't all of the tattoo but you could definitely make out the basic shape of the tattoo.

      @@volksweegan2784 the body was definitely very old at the time of death. The tattoos were not sharp like you would see in a newer tattoo. They looked decades old. Summary: So a tatoo isn't just some drawing on your skin, all your cells (macrophages/white blood cells) in your skin are actually constantly working to contain the ink on the same spot because the cells can't get rid of it but don't want it to spread either.

I'm a professor in a school of nursing, and I appreciate how you can explain A&P in a way that makes sense to a lay person - also appreciate the cadavers. One thing I was hoping you would touch on in this one is the heavy metals that are in all tattoo inks - each color has a predominance of a specific heavy metal. They have been linked to increased sensitivity in general in people, including joint replacements when they become necessary - that good ol' well-meaning inflammatory process.

    Not just the skin:
    "After tattooing, a part of the injected tattoo inks leaves the skin via the wounded surface. Pigment particles remain in the dermis and absorb light in a specific spectral range causing the color of the tattoo. Another fraction of the injected tattoo ink is removed from the skin passively via lymph or blood vessels or is actively transported by migrating cells. As a result, tattoo pigments are found in the local lymph nodes but are likely also transported to other organs such as liver, lungs or kidney. Experiments with mice suggest that pigment particles of tattoo suspensions are picked up by Kupffer cells inside the liver as indicated by the detection of particles via electron microscopy."
    "Tattoo inks are suspensions that may contain up to 100 different chemical compounds that may or may not be added intentionally. The coloring pigment is mixed with solvents, preservatives, and various other substances. Although they are injected into the human body, tattoo inks usually do not need to fulfill specific safety requirements in contrast to other substances that are inserted into the human body, such as medical drugs or implants. The exact list of ingredients, if known at all, depends on the practice of each manufacturer. Tattooists and beauticians purchase the tattoo inks directly from suppliers or through the internet ."
    "Potential hazardous properties of chemicals in tattoo inks include carcinogenic, immunotoxic, and sensitizing properties. Tattoo inks containing hazardous chemicals are frequently found on the European market. The major substances of concern detected in analyzed samples are polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) (43 %), primary aromatic amines (PAA) (14 %), heavy metals (9 %) and preservatives (6 %)."
    Additionally, German studies have found a that tattooed individuals have a higher rate of liver disease occurring within 10 yrs of tattooing.

    Microbiologist/Geneticist/Pharmacologist here and tattoos have been happening for thousands of years without causing any problems in 99.9% of people that have had them, even done in unhygienic ways or with inks that contain metals like lead, arsenic, and mercury or other solid compounds. Still, the tiny amounts of ink used make this similar to levels that are in many things we ingest daily including water. Nowadays, tattoos are harmless if the artist is skilled and hygienic, using an antiseptic spray every five or so minutes, and if you aren't allergic to the ink (the most significant risk in a proper studio) or reactive to dyes, usually red which can irritate some people. This video is a bit dramatic; collagen is so abundant, and the inflammation is not that bad, especially if you are relaxed. We have inflammation at all times in the body, but we have an elaborate cellular process to deal with it, or we can even utilize compounds like ibuprofen that can make it minimize it. Tattoo ink does not contain plastics; it contains inorganic pigments such as carbon black, the most common, synthetic organic pigments as colorants (azo dyes or similar dyes), glycerol, ethyl or isopropyl alcohol, distilled water, and some brands use preservatives to reduce contamination risk and to add viscosity. The contaminants in some colors are metals that are discrete molecules or small solids in cheaper inks that do not get used much. The metal molecules are compounds such as iron oxide, chromium, selenium, aluminum, and titanium dioxide (although not in a lot of countries, as a lot of these things are illegal in most regions now). Occasionally, there is beryllium or antimony in trace amounts in some ink brands, depending on the laws in the country. Still, most do not have any toxic metals our cells and the immune system can't deal with in trace amounts, and many countries have banned them. Some of these are already endogenous or included in multivitamins to improve health, included in medications as fillers, vaccines, and other injectable pharmaceuticals as adjuvants and preservatives. Some of these sound nasty, but for comparison, our cells produce peroxide and formaldehyde and other things that lysosomes and other organelles can deal with. Our cellular system and genes can handle a lot and deal with corrupt or senescent cells, damaged or incorrect genes, inflammation due to aging, sunlight, and other natural stress, and more daily. We can even reduce or reverse these things with natural supplements or certain practices and change things epigenetically. I have several tattoos, including standard tattoos, traditional tattoos inked in Borneo/Sarawak with the manually tapped needle method, and I even have deep tissue tattoos where the needles are thicker and pushed much deeper, they create a scar, so if the ink fades or you get laser removal, it is still visible due to it being a scar because it is deep and essentially cut in. Tattoo aftercare is simple and hygienic with bepanthan cream or a high-quality tattoo cream that is made for tattoos and keeps the ink in whilst being antiseptic so no infection occurs. The key is don't get cheap tattoos and don't get them done by a professional artist who isn't both skilled and hygienic and look after it properly while it is healing, then you won't have any problems.

      I’m not a science teacher or anything but my guess is that the dense cells on the epidermis creates crinkles in the skin and the tattoo tool needs smooth surface to properly glide the ink. It’s like trying to iron a shirt that came right out of the dryer without straighten it out- the iron wouldn’t be able to effectively smooth out the wrinkles without you straighten out the shirt

    • @saniderm
      @saniderm 3 года назад

      @@whitemoonwolf13 Hey there! Like Kippy has said, Saniderm is a great way to heal your fresh tattoo. Saniderm uses a process called wet healing and, by doing this, speeds up the healing process, reduces itching and scabbing. The recommended instructions are to keep the first piece on for 24 hours since this will fill up with plasma. Take the first piece off, wash with antibacterial soap (Saniderm sells foam soap), pat dry, and replace it with another piece. That piece can stay on for 4-6 days. Afterwards, you can use moisturizer, like our all natural Sanibalm, to keep your tattoo hydrated for years to come! Hope this helps 🙌

      I find it rather disingenuous that a person that should know the human body better than most is saying tattoos are neither good nor bad. Especially when you know for a fact that the body’s immune system actively tries to get rid of them.
      How can anyone look at this and objectively say tattoos are good or not bad, especially when you realize they’re functionally useless? They do nothing except to elicit a certain aesthetic.

      @@Laura-ob4om That’s reaching. Art is necessary. Tattoos are not. The human body and its design is a work of art in and of itself. Putting tattoos on it is akin to vandalizing a building with spray paint. But it’s even worse because you’re purposely introducing a foreign, inorganic substance into the body that it is not designed to break down. How the body responds to tattoos should be a telling indicator of how they should be treated.

      Your body is a mechanism meaning your immune system never stops working irregardless of what it is especially something it's commonly used to /seeing

    So a tattooed persons white blood cells will just stay put, holding down that ink for all their life time? That's a full time job with no pay. That's punishment.
