I served in the US Navy from 1964-1968 but never got a single tattoo. As a Hospital Corpsman (Medic) I learned a bit about what injecting ink into you skin can do and avoided them, even when I was a bit drunk.
Was there anything you learned that wasn’t mentioned in this video?
Good for you,,,,you made the right decision…..back in those days they used lead in their ink, I worked in a hospital and found out that because of the lead, you could not be in an X-ray machine for diagnostic purposes, because the lead would arc in the X-ray machine,,,,,I don’t know what they use now,,,,,,,I don’t have any tattoos either…..
Good job resisting peer pressure 👍
Wow 😊 happy 80th birthday 😊 when it arrives 👍 it sure is a different USA than 1964.
lead doesn't arc in an x-ray, we even use it to protect ourselves from x-rays
I remember a cadaver I had the opportunity learn from years ago. They had multiple tattoos on their body. Remember our TA pulling the skin back so we could see the tattoo on dermis. What we didn't expect was seeing evidence of the tattoo ink embedded in the muscle layer. It wasn't all of the tattoo but you could definitely make out the basic shape of the tattoo.
Must be powerful ink
😮
I was also hoping he'd show us a dissection of a piece of skin with a tattoo on it. The video was good, but that would have been more interesting imho - to actually see how deep tattoos go
From what you can tell, were these tattoos done in a shop, prison, or some tweakers basement?
@@volksweegan2784 the body was definitely very old at the time of death. The tattoos were not sharp like you would see in a newer tattoo. They looked decades old. This a very educational video. I've been tattooing for 27 years now and I found it awesome.
I liked this video and have seen others that you've done. I'm a professor in a school of nursing, and I appreciate how you can explain A&P in a way that makes sense to a lay person - also appreciate the cadavers. One thing I was hoping you would touch on in this one is the heavy metals that are in all tattoo inks - each color has a predominance of a specific heavy metal. They have been linked to increased sensitivity in general in people, including joint replacements when they become necessary - that good ol' well-meaning inflammatory process.
Hy am a nurse too
Glad you mentioned this.
Summary: So a tatoo isn't just some drawing on your skin, all your cells (macrophages/white blood cells) in your skin are actually constantly working to contain the ink on the same spot because the cells can't get rid of it but don't want it to spread either.
O.O
so us having a tattoo bad for you?

Honestly this vid should be severely reduced to the length of this comment. 16 minutes of constant definitions and long drawn out explanations to just explain what you said.

My father considered it while on his deathbed. I think it was mainly to save money for funeral expenses so my mom would have more in the bank. But my son was employed at a medical research facility where a lot of these remains end up and I didn't want my dad cut up into bits as it was described to me and thrown into an incinerator anonymously . We opted for cremation at a cemetery but no big fancy funeral.

As a medical double major myself, this was a simple refresher.
Tattoos are bad!
I find it rather disingenuous that a person that should know the human body better than most is saying tattoos are neither good nor bad. Especially when you know for a fact that the body’s immune system actively tries to get rid of them.
How can anyone look at this and objectively say tattoos are good or not bad, especially when you realize they’re functionally useless? They do nothing except to elicit a certain aesthetic.
Saying that something is functionally useless only bc it serves a certain aesthetic purpose is to say that art is useless and unnecessary to humans. @@dukeonwheels
@@Laura-ob4om That’s reaching. Art is necessary. Tattoos are not. The human body and its design is a work of art in and of itself. Putting tattoos on it is akin to vandalizing a building with spray paint. But it’s even worse because you’re purposely introducing a foreign, inorganic substance into the body that it is not designed to break down. How the body responds to tattoos should be a telling indicator of how they should be treated.

@@bubblegum5399 Agree guy i did my first arm sleeve at felt alot more cause he was alot more aggressive it wasnt too bad but more aggressive my left leg and right arm at other artists are holding alot better then my first sleeve over time and those artists were alot more gentle..
I have over 135 tattoos and didn't feel a thing. I just love pain. I'm just used to it.😂
"You can think that's disgusting, but it's anatomy so it's technically under the classification of being 'awesome!'" 🤔...😁! That was precious! Ya gotta love it!
Reading your comment just as he said it 🤣
I'm getting a tattoo for the first time in 64 years after my footy team Collingwood won the 2023 🏆.
I came across this video and initially thought you were going to say tattooing is bad.
Not only have you allayed my concerns, I've learnt so much about skin.😊
Go pies .
I don’t have any tattoos, but I find them fascinating and really creative. Now this makes me understand it so much more. Thank you I love your channel!
is it bad that I kinda feel sad for the body trying to protect me so much😭🥺
take good care of it ❤️
You'd probably be sadder if it didn't
@@hooligansauce9652 I would probably be dead faster than sad
@@78_mary31 not necessarily there are plenty of people immune deficiencies, and other health issues. Aids is a thing.
@@hooligansauce9652 I am talking about the whole system . Like the cells repairing itself and replacing everyday to keep us away from decay. Not just immune lol
This guys is really giving a great lesson. Sometimes, some of these things are not taught in school but with some good Samaritan like this guy, education becomes easy for those willing to learn Online about certain Realities which are not sometimes taught in school
Just need to learn how to pay attention in person instead of a video lol
It’s taught in higher education
Rock on...! I'm glad I never got one and never will...! Thanks for sharing... Keep up your awesomeness...
I am so glad it has never occurred to me in my entire long life to get a tattoo
Wow, a sponsor that’s actually relevant to the topic. You’ve achieved greatness
He probably made the video around the sponsor, but the video is so well done you don't even notice
the guy looks happy when he's explaining. I guess he just loves human anatomy 😀😀
It’s my major and yeah they all love it haha
Full Metal Alchemist
Yea 😩❤
Yeah he loves what he’s doing
Joel Osteen Tattoo version
Fascinating as always !!
You are an amazing, skillful presenter!
I’ve been tattooing 7 years and this was fascinating. I always knew the basics but this really helps to visualize it

Good job on 6.69M subs!🎉🎉
I have a tiny tattoo and even after watching this video I don't regret it because it has a deep personal meaning. I still think this is something you should be taught before getting a tattoo.
Im a tattoo artist and found this very interesting! Every time i felt i needed to comment something he would mention it, everything except why stretching the skin during a tattoo is so important? Its like drawing on a deflated balloon. If you dont stretch it out, it doesnt turn out right.
That makes sense! I've used a sharpie on a balloon & then inflated it for sure
Wow
Could that be explained or?..
I’m not a science teacher or anything but my guess is that the dense cells on the epidermis creates crinkles in the skin and the tattoo tool needs smooth surface to properly glide the ink. It’s like trying to iron a shirt that came right out of the dryer without straighten it out- the iron wouldn’t be able to effectively smooth out the wrinkles without you straighten out the shirt
@MStay lit it’s not bad, it’s not exactly good either but the trauma it produces are tolerable for our anatomy
"It's anatomy so it's under the classification of being awesome" love it
Although I do not have any tattoos, this is very interesting stuff! Thank you!
THANK GOD, HE KNEW ALL OF THIS BEFORE HAND. THATS WHY HE SPOKE CLEARLY ABT MAKING CUTTINGS AND MARKINGS IN/ON THE BODY.
why is Paul Rudd giving me an anatomy lecture
Yessss!!! 😊👏🏼
LMAOO
Now i I wanna see how the cells in “Cells at Work” would react to being inked
That sounds like a great idea!
That anime has a lot of potential... they should do more seasons... a drug addict cells... would be so eductational andmaybe add some story on the persons's body something like "Osmosis Jones" (Bill Murray like-character or so)
OMG YES
