See, I hate alcohol. I’m an addict. The “cure” for a hangover has always been more booze, get the good feelings going to block out the bad. My “hangover” is withdrawal and the only thing to fix it is opiates which caused the sickness, OR medications to combat the side effects. Decongestant, anxiety meds, and a anti-histamine to try to knock you out. That’s all that I could really do.
@@keepontruckinoutlawlife1248 I believe he is just an anatomy guy. Not a coroner or whatever the person who does autopsies is called. Just a guess from me. I'm new to this channel.
Having been a moderate/heavy drinker for 7 years and feeling the effects on my body and some recent health scares, this video is just that much more of a motivator to finally quit, which I'm on day 4. Wish me luck and if you're in a similar situation, prayers to you.
I used to work at a liquor store. I had to quit after about 10 months because I just couldn’t sell alcohol to alcoholics anymore. It was so so so sad to see the same people every day, and for some, several times a day. They looked so defeated. I just wanted to give them a hug instead of ringing in their purchase.
I gave up alcohol one year ago. I'm a recovering addict as well and it's a very difficult battle to win. But I'm winning it. Just went through the end of year stuff sober for the first time in 20 years. I feel a bit depressed today and watching this helped me.
Been liquor free for 4 years, cut cigarettes and vaping out over a year ago........And I dont regret a second of it. I battled with alcohol for 15 years. I have lost 60lbs, and I am back to running 3 to 4 miles again everyday and lifting weights. Health=wealth
That’s absolutely fantastic, good job! 😊 I have been trying to quit vaping, but it’s been tough. How long did it take for the intense anxiety and cravings to go away?

I have reached the 2 year mark and am healthier than I every was before in my life. I have lost 40 lbs. have taken martial arts for 20 months, am fit, and have received 2 promotions at work. I appreciate you all and hope everyone has a great day. Original post: I was a heavy drinker for almost 20 years. I am currently 12 days away from 1 year sober. Not a day goes by where I do not want a drink and the struggle doesn't go away, I just continue to deal with it day by day. Kudos to anyone that continues the journey, whether it is day 1 or 1000, day 1 for the umpteenth time. Whether you are in recovery or if you want to quit and are thinking about it, know that people out there that do not know you at all are rooting for you.
I'm just watching this video now and see this was posted 11 days ago, so Happy 1 Year! How does it feel? Amazing, right? Keep it up. And you're right, to anybody ready for recovery or in it, you have a world of family members now who love and support you. We've walked your path before, and we know how it can go. I'm sitting at 1+ years right now, with my second anniversary later this year.
I'm just an internet stranger, but congratulations on your anniversary of becoming sober. Addiction is one of the most difficult struggles a human can go through, you should be proud that you continue to beat it every day.
I'm a veteran, alcohol and cigarettes addiction actually destroyed my life. I suffered severe depression and mental disorder. Got diagnosed with cptsd. Not until my wife recommended me to psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Psilocybin treatment saved my life honestly. 8 years totally clean. Much respect to mother nature the great magic shrooms.
I love hearing great life changing stories like this. I want to become a mycologist because honestly mushrooms are the best form of medicine (most especially the psychedelic ones) There are so many people today used magic mushrooms to ween off of SSRI medication- its amazing! Years back i wrote an entire essay about psychedelics. they saved you from death buddy, lets be honest here.
Hey mates! Can you help with the source? I suffer severe anxiety, panic and depression and I usually take prescription medicine, but they don't always help. Where can I find those psilocybin mushrooms? I'm really interested in treating my mental health without Rxs. I live in Australia don't know much about these. I'm so glad they helped you. I can't wait to get them too. Really need a reliable source 🙏🏻
YES very sure of benmycologys I have the same experience with anxiety, depression, PTSD and addiction and Mushrooms definitely made a huge huge difference to why am clean today.
Thanks for sharing your story. That's rough I sympathize. Save your health save your mind. Life is better without heroin, cocaine, alcohol and cigarettes. And you have more money in your pocket. God bless everyone who has rejected the devils intentions to be addicted to alcohol and cigarettes etc which can cause so much damage to health. I will pray for you all.
Quarantine gave me the opportunity to totally quit alchool for a while and that came up being the second best thing i could do for my body after quitting smoking
The fact I never let myself get into alcohol and drink a few drinks per year at most and never smoked or did drugs is one of the few things I actually am proud about myself. I really hope that everyone who has fallen for any of these may be able to free themselves from it's grip

This is so intersting. I was an alcoholic for 20 years and Recently celebrated 12 months sober on 6/12. So happy i quit drinking and sobered up. Amazing video
I just celebrated 10 years sober last month and I was a hard core, late stage alcoholic who had to drink around the clock to avoid going into massive withdrawal. To anyone who believes they have a drinking problem or knows they're an alcoholic but can't stop, please get help. Don't live in shame and embarrassment for years like I did. It never, ever goes away on it's own once you've passed a certain point and the consequences get worse and worse. I never thought I'd be able to be a person who didn't need a drink. I couldn't imagine not wanting or needing to drink. But after some hard and honest work, I put together a week, then a month, then a year. And I kept doing that because I was proud of myself and I was healthy again. Now, 10 years later, I'm still doing the deal. I've been through some of the roughest, most painful life experiences and never wanted to drink over them because I know that, for me, it would never be just one or two. As we alcoholics say, "One is too many and one thousand is never enough." If you can relate to that, there's help out there and lots of people ready to support you. ♡
i 100% agree! although for many getting help is extremly hard, it is extremely worth it! i truly wish people were given more attention and help when they are addicted.
@@crownambassador8894 alcohol is definitely horrible for you but this kind of thinking is what caused the pointless war on drugs. I used to say I will NEVER quit alcohol. Alcohol was my bestie and I used to drink alone most of the time. I was told I was pre diabetic, I said to myself I will reduce the alcohol intake. I opened a can had a sip then asked myself "for real do you have to, your health is more important". I chucked the drink in the sink and stopped drinking. 2months later I got my diabetes to normal range after revamping my diet. It's been 10 months and I don't miss alcohol at all. I never struggled as I feared i would. I love getting up daily with no hangover 😂
I've been alcohol free for going on 11 years after a lifetime of drinking. I don't miss it a bit. I never even think about it. I've always wanted to write a book called "Party Girls and Alcoholic Women". I was that party girl but at some point I was becoming the alcoholic woman. You reach a point in your life where drinking loses it's lustre and becomes pretty unattractive. I woke up one day and felt like my soul was dead. It wasn't fun anymore. It had become a chore. I don't judge others for what they do but for me I decided I'd had my fill. I'm happy and proud of myself for making that choice. There's alot to be said for sobriety and my body and mind thank me for it.

I quit smoking and drinking around the same time about 15 years ago and I feel so much better now than I did before it's unreal. I slowed my smoking down for about a year and then just decided to quit and alcohol I just lost my taste for it. But now I really hate being around smokers, they have no idea how bad they smell and don't like being around most drinkers because they can't tell how annoying they can be. I only wish I had never started or at least had quit sooner now that I see how it can affect others around me.
It's a chore for me. I'm drunk right not. My friends are starting an aa group in a few weeks. I'm going to join. Tired of making booze a priority. I'm 41. Its time for a change.

I worked for a booze company for 30+ years: every year we had to spend a day on "alcohol awareness training". In my very first year (1975) the guy said "the definition of an alcoholic is somebody whose consumption of alcohol is costing them more than just the money". Sums it up perfectly.
In high school many moons ago, we were taught that alcoholics are people who drink excessively to get drunk. That’s their goal if you will. I like the definition that you shared.

2 years sober. I'm happy. Couldn't have chose a better choice in life. I was dying. Daily. My body would hard. I lost a ton of weight because I couldn't eat. I was never hungry. Just wanted wine. Hurt for me to even pee. I didn't want sex. I couldn't have kids. I blamed it on stressed but it was an addiction. I'm glad I'm done. My son saved my life.
The same thing happened to my grandfather, he went to world war two and came back and became an alcoholic he would not eat for months at a time. Eventual died of cancer in his early 60 's.
In my twenties, my mother pushed a narrative that I was a full-blown alcoholic. I was a problem drinker and had several other behavioral addictions. But I never drank enough or often enough to develop a physiological dependence on alcohol. Funny enough, my mom is now a full-blown alcoholic. Anyway, I quit drinking because even though I wasn't a full-blown alcoholic, I was a problem drinker and it didn't help with some of my other addictive behaviors. Years later, I finally did the hard work and processed through some SA trauma I went through as a late teen (which was the reason I had developed such maladaptive coping mechanisms in the first place). After doing a lot of healing and work on myself and processing through that trauma, I now have a "healthy" relationship with alcohol (a couple of drinks every few weeks at a restaurant or social gathering), BUT-- I have to report, that after probably 6 or 7 years of not drinking at all, adding just a few alcoholic drinks every 2-3 weeks I can absolutely notice a difference in the way I feel. Probably not worth the few drinks every 2-3 weeks after all.
You should! And never give in to peer pressure! I never drank a lot (2-3 glasses of something light per year) but I stopped even that years ago and never missed it!
I'm a nurse and when I was still in training I was treating a patient with cirrhosis of the liver (he was an alcoholic). When I first met the guy he was okay - obviously not healthy but his condition was bearable. A few days later I was doing my rounds again and the guy suddenly wasn't capable of coherent speech anymore. I obviously freaked out because I thought he might have had a stroke or something and ran to get my mentor. She calmed the patient down a bit and then took me outside the room. She explained to me the shift in personality and cognitive function. This is what happened to the man: When the liver is scarred from the constant alcohol influx it can't properly function anymore. Toxins like ammonia can't be metabolised correctly and start to accumulate in the blood. Once these reach a certain concentration they will cross the blood-brain-barrier. This happened to the patient. The toxins entered his brain and severely influenced his speech and mannerisms. The toxins will also saturate around the skin, making patient very itchy and their skin irritable. Sadly, the effects of livercirrhosis don't end there. Since the liver is such a big organ and essentially our detox-station it needs to filter a lot of blood at once. To that end it is suffused by the portal vein which "collects" all the blood from your abdominal region. But since the livertissue is scarred the blood from this vein can't flow into the liver as fast as it wants/needs to. This causes the pressure in the vein to build up and the blood to accumulate. This leads to varicose veins in your stomach and esophagus. Sudden pressure or increase in temperature (such as a hot bath) can rupture these veins which can kill you quite quickly. The high pressure in the portal vein also literally presses out the fluid components of the blood which collect in the abdominal region. These are the "beerbellies" you might know. They hinder movement and the pressure can even cause shortness of breath. There are EVEN MORE problems and symptomes caused by liverchirrosis but I think I got the point across: Don't abuse alcohol because it will wreck your liver and your liver will take terrible vengeance on you.
And…(another RN, dealt with end stage cirrhosis in ICU)…they look like orange 10 month pregnant people that don’t have any idea what they are doing and try to climb out of bed, sometimes get combative, sometimes end up on the ventilator as they go through acute alcohol withdrawals. Bellies are drained with large bore needles (5- 6 liters) periodically as the “ascites” collects from the failed liver. This can be risky and cause cardiovascular complications. The muscle mass and malnutrition leaves nothing but bones with skin on top, tube feeding or food through the IV has to be managed carefully. Medicine and treatment at this point are chasing the tail, and waiting to see if the patient recovers as the body detoxifies. So sad to watch and hard to manage.
I've had a few patients die from esophageal varacies through my stints in GI and ICU. It always amazes me when the family is either in denial or unaware about how much the patients drink. GI is still the hardest place Ive worked and being bullied by coworkers lead to me getting out. Best decision I've ever made! Great explanation of how things work. Hug your liver with abstinence of alcohol; I quit drinking that year. Take care
Very well explained, when I was a nursing student, we had a similar case, the patient started to throw up blood and died very quickly, it was not a pretty sight, and as a nursing student quite traumatic 😫
@@SandyJ4321 I've also seen those bellies being drained but more like 2-3 litres in one sitting. Isn't 5-6 litres in one go dangerous? In the academy we were tought that you shouldn't drain that much in one go as it places a lot of stress on the cardiovascular system. Medicine and treatment "chasing the tail" happens so often, it can be quite disheartening. I see this with so many treatments/diseases! From chronic diabetes to kidney failures to heavy smokers with COPD, the list is endless...
@@Onk3lM0 yes, you are absolutely correct on the amount to drain. We had a physician that did one and put the patient into danger by taking off too much at one time. I don’t know what he was thinking. The patient’s BP dropped and they started to go into hypovolemic shock. With the ascites, there is too much pressure on the vessels, especially the inferior vena cava, and if you take the pressure off, there is a sudden drop in venous blood return to the heart. It can cause cardiac arrest. And yes, this type of “chasing the tail” is very disheartening. I have learned to just keep these patients comfortable, because essentially it is palliative care. So sad. We can’t fix everyone. I also take the perspective that this can allow people an opportunity to make amends with their family or those close to them. Sometimes it is a good time to address code status, as they are faced with reality. So many people do not understand resuscitation, and so many times we don’t address it.

As a drinker, I find this video, both disturbing and informative. People need to have unbiased information, and people like yourself provide it. Thank you.
I agree. Just show us the actual science of the effects of alcohol on our systems and I feel a little more worried, a little more disturbed. I'm 60 now and still like having a few on weekends but notice the fatigue is a lot greater then before and lasts longer. Drinking slower seems to do the trick for me as opposed to drinking 6 or 7 beers really fast only to realize I may have had 1 or 2 too many. Visualizing how the alcohol flows through the system for me gives me pause.

After having just spent nearly a week in the hospital with severe acute pancreatitis, I will say that alcohol's effect on the pancreas is far more devastating than how it was just kinda glossed over here. I drank a LOT for the first half of the last 2 decades. I stopped around 10 years ago because my social life (and depression) was replaced by my kids. Well, last year (after having dealt with a lot of deep seeded problems) I started drinking a little more but nothing like before. A few Vegas bombs a day suddenly I can't stop vomiting, stabbing pains in my abdomen; some of the worst pain I've ever experienced. I managed to drive myself to the ER, they throw me in a CT scanner and tell me that I have acute pancreatitis. Then I just writhe around for a couple of hours with only some anti-nausea meds while we wait for a bed to open at a nearby hospital. It took 4 days for me to be able to actually walk more than 5 steps again. I wasn't even allowed to drink water for the first 3 days. I'm very thankful that I have health insurance but the moral of the story, kids, is that alcohol is dangerous. Alcohol is one of those evil things disguised as something unassuming; the proverbial "wolf in sheep's clothing."
DrewishAF, I agree with what you said about the seriousness of alcohol on your pancreas. In fact, the whole reason I watched this video was to hear what he would say about it and I can't believe that he just brushed over the pancreas all together. It is Horrible! I am a 42 year old recovering alcoholic and I have chronic pancreatitis. I've had it for 6 years and I can attest that when it flares up and I have an attack the pain is worse than child labor! On a "normal" day at best my belly always hurts to some degree! It Never stops, just varies in intensity. I have been hospitalized with it literally more times than I know. Including twice in the past 1 1 /2 months. Each time gets progressively worse and more painful. Each time begins with intense uncontrable vomiting to the point where only bile and blood are coming up, excruciating abdominal and back pain, cold sweats, the inability to keep down any food/ drink including water immediately comes back up! Every time I end up in the hospital for a Minimum of a week but usually 2-3. Since the only way for the pancreas to heal (if it's going to) is to starve it then the Dr will put me on Strong pain medication and iv fluids with No food or water for days until it's strong enough to handle water again and then clear liquid "foods". I've been through it so many times that my family doesn't even pay attention, call or check until I'm in ICU. I would give anything to be able go back and Never Taken that First Drink of alcohol!! I started drinking when my little sister died and in less than a year my pancreas was shot! The fact that I'm 5' 3" and only 100 lbs drinking a fifth ++ of vodka a day didn't help. My diet now consists of No red meat, No greasy or fried foods, No spicy or heavily seasoned foods and I can't drink ANY alcohol or it will immediately send me into an attack. My pancreas also doesn't produce 2 of the enzymes required to break down foods ( amylase and lipase) so for the rest of my life I have to take medication with Anything that I eat to be able to digest it. If I'm somewhere and forgot to bring my medicine then I can Not until I have it. I have a list of other meds as well. I apologize for the long post. I hope you're feeling better now. I'm not sharing this for sympathy. Maybe by sharing this though it might help Someone.
@@amberparker3458 That's incredibly sad. I actually did the same thing checking this video to find out what the detailed interaction would be and was very disappointed. Naively, I didn't actually know that alcohol was so hard on the pancreas. I started drinking heavily when I was I was between middle and high school. But I pretty much ended that (with signs of moderate alcohol withdrawal that I was too stupid to recognize) when I was about 22-23, only having a couple beers occasionally with dinner. Unfortunately, I never learned to cope with a lot of the problems that lead me to drink in the first place so I moved on to every drug there is before ending up as a full-blown (but functioning) addict. It makes it hard to quit when you're terrified of withdrawal and you don't get to homelessness or a singular "rock bottom." After several years of IV use, I finally got clean with around 5 years of sobriety before I started drinking (in moderation, but consistently) again. Little did I know that I had already partially crystallized my pancreas and had mild digestive issues until a stabbing pain & gratuitous vomiting (also bile and blood). The first time was painful enough to get me to an ER, but mostly because appendicitis, pancreatic and colon cancer run in my family. I went home after a few hours with some nausea medicine and Prilosec. But after a couple of weeks, I had a Red Bull and vodka following dinner while cleaning the house. I woke up at 5am feeling far worse than before but stupidly expected it to go away. After a few hours, I had to drive myself to the ER again but my wife was home this time so I elected to let them run more tests. They were shocked at the results and immediately gave me some pain relievers before transferring me to a bigger hospital. The first 3 days were nothing I want anyone to experience, ever. But all of this stemmed from the fact that I had absolutely no idea that this was even possible. I wish I had known because it likely would have made me take it more serious. My GI doctor told me that with my family history, it's likely that my pancreas was already struggling but unnoticeable to me and that the alcohol just pushed it over the edge. Anyway, this is the second novel I've written here so I'll stop. But I genuinely appreciate your story and the pain. It's been over a week since I've been home and I have yet to have the pain leave completely. Enough to the point where I started to wonder if I cracked a rib with being so swollen or from the several days of heaving anything I tried to eat/drink. But it gave me the slap in the face I needed to cut the stupid shit out and take care of myself.
@@struck1999 Sorry to hear that. The first few days I was home I was struggling with bloat and a hydrocele from all the IV fluids. It took about a week to even get my GI system back to relative normalcy. I'm trying to make changes so this doesn't happen again, but I have a feeling it will be back at some point. Thank you for the input and I hope that you're doing better now
@@amberparker3458 I had 2 accute pancreatities cause by gallbladder sludge, didnt feel a thing, only a bit of nausea, discovered by a blood test (lipase was way high) then CT scan confirmed, took me 2 years to discover the sludge, was treating as ideopatic, I was really worried. Removed the gallbladder, I wasnt much of a drinker, but this hit me hard now I drink a bit of wine around 2 or 3 times in a year. I can feel your pain, I really prayed these years, feeling the worse, my mother in law died of pancreatic cancer in the amidst of my trouble, which hit me even harder mentally. I stopped drinking 11 years ago and I'm really cheering for the people who are using medical info like this to boost their motivation! Alcohol nearly destroyed my body, from gall stones, liver disease, cataracts and obesity (metabolic syndrome) and herniated discs, arthritis and sciatica from carrying 288lbs of alcohol weight (and McDonald's hangover cures lol). I truly hope the best for everyone walking this hard road. 💞
Alcohol isn't what destroyed your body, it was purely yourself. I never blame alcohol if I drink so much that I end up puking, I ALWAYS end up blaming myself. You destroyed yourself using alcohol, simple as that. It's like eating 20 McDonalds cheeseburgers willingly and then afterwards blame McDonalds over you getting fat😂😂

Please show some respect to these amazing people who've donated their bodies in the name of science. Our scientific achievements are, in one way or another, because of them.
Man, you've convinced me to donate my body to science, instead of cremation. It makes me much more content to provide illustrative material to med students instead of burning my body.
My friend is in Med school right now and these videos have helped me keep up and understand more about the anatomy of the body when we talk about what he is doing in school. He has been doing anatomy at the moment so it really does help me understand what he is talking about.
This video should be mandatory into any biology classes, starting in high school. People just concentrate on the 'feeling' and have no idea what alcohol does to their bodies.
you are amazing for making this. not only do you explain things so well but your way of Segway-ing into each story, example, explanation, back to story, really kept my attention.
I just survived a very terrifying severe alcohol withdrawal syndrome. I was rushed to a hospital 2 months ago. Tremors, Anxiety, seizures, insomnia. But the most terrifying was the hallucinations. It’s called the delirium tremens (DT’s) I thought I was gonna die or going crazy. Thanks to my doctor, i’m so happy and thankful I survived. I’m 2 months sober now.
he reminds me of myself before and during my time in Uni. with having questions "why does this happen" "why does my body do this" And then when you're studying at home you're like "aaaah! so thats why!" Also didn't know his name was Justin so we have that in common as well!

I'd also like to see if they could break down the difference between tobacco smoke which contains more harmful chemicals to someone who only smoked cannabis, which has more tar, but none of the other harsh chemicals. No smoking is good for you but that would be a cool difference to see how they differ.
Oh Justin, your excitement for physiology is so contagious. I love the way you teach. I've had some amazing A&P profs who love this as much as you. We need professors like you in high schools. Three years for me. Life is immeasurably better. Just couldn't see unhelpful patterns that were holding me back. Other vices: isolation, smoking, dope, screens; all become strong replacements to alcohol. Just wish you luck because I know how hard it is to push on sometimes, and we need that support for the respect we have for ourselves and others.
When you guys posted this video I simply stopped drinking at all. Never had a drinking problem or anything, never been a big fan of alcohol either, but I simply refused to drink ever since. Everyone asks me and I always refer them to this video. It is creating new members to this not drinking for the sake of it club, which I think is great. The best part is waking up without a hangover after a heavy and long party and being super fresh because I took no substance at all. The info from this video made me happier and by just reflecting on it I wanted to stop by and thank you guys for showing me what an aware and healthy life feels like. Will soon hit two years! "The best part is waking up without a hangover after a heavy and long party" That's why not all drugs are alcohol or stimulants... and i'm really happy for that. You can still trip balls without having a hangover... maybe some afterglow, but usually not unpleasant at all.
Ok. So much to say here: First and foremost, you are by far the most amazing teacher. Your communication style is one that should be embraced by any professor in College doing their damndest to teach a kid anything they need to know in order to be successful as a clinician. Secondly, I can honestly say, I actually made a cognitive decision to not open a wine bottle again after hearing your in-depth discussion on exactly how alcohol impacts the body - and why. I've known for years now I NEED to stop drinking. But now, I actually want to. Thank you. Thank you so much for being such a brilliant, artful and skilled communicator. You just might have saved my life. Or at the very least, provided me with the inspiration to take control of my own life.
It was very impactful for me too. I've been working my way back into casual wine every night. Now I know what it's actually doing to me. It's no fun anymore.
Been drinking since I was 18. I am now 38. I have begun to slow way down on my drinking, and hope to completely stop, because of it's toll on my body. I wish I never started in the first place. If you are young and reading this, please do not drink, it's not worth it.

Moderation works for me. Let's face it, drinking can be fun. I keep it at a few shots per month. Makes life better because it takes off the edge. I was mostly alcohol free for many years when I was young. However, at 70, sometimes I just need a shot, umm or two. I never knew the liver was so huge. That amazed me. Well done vid. Cheers 🍻🧡😎
As Spock would say "fascinating" I actually knew about the Pyloric Sphincter since we have 6 of them, one is known as the asshole or anus. I also knew about the livers ability to regenerate itself, like how an octopus can regrow a leg that's as good as the original in about 90 days. In fact when the octopus's leg is 2 inches long its just as functional as the original.
just hit 30 days sober. went 2 months earlier this year, then fell back into it, thinking i could moderate. while i successfully cut back my intake, i still noticed that i didn't feel as good as when i was 100% sober. excited to really go for the long haul this time

I’m on my sobriety journey and it’s always fun to educate yourself on the potential harms of alcohol and thank yourself for making the right decision to quit and share the testimony and encourage others to quit as well.
I'm a functioning alcoholic and relapsed nearly 4 years ago. I've been trying to quit ever since. This month I've had better success but still a few days falling down. As someone struggling to stay on the wagon, this has really opened my eyes to the destruction I've been inflicting on my body. God brought this into my feed for a reason and the way you teach is by far the best narration / instruction I've ever had. Thank you so much.
This is the stuff that should be in schools from a young age, understanding the magic cells that create us early in life would teach us to respect our body's.
I'm saving this video to show my kids. My first born is now 9, I'm sure he is old enough to start teaching him what all these things do and what alcohol does. I don't drink alcohol at all, you wouldn't even find any in our house nor do we have any sodas which I feel are just as bad for our kids. So with in our lifestyle alone I'm teaching my kids that it's not necessarily at all and with that they don't get the need to have it as they don't have it ever generally. There has been times where people asked my kids if they wanted a soda for the special occasions which I allowed, but they said no thank you and asked for fruit juice and water instead. I didn't grow up with sodas in my parents house and only really had some when I left school at 18 and because of that (it's not that i wasnt allowed to have any) I never cared for it as well as alcohol. So I do feel that our lifestyles influence our children's addictions and substance abuse alot later on in life. Just having it and do it around them often affect their perception of it and I feel that is something all parents should really be aware of and think about when they have kids. Our own behaviour affects our children in so many ways.
There's no magic cell or magic anything, science is cause and effect - creator and creation. Kid's will not hear this simple, logical truth in any of the board of indoctrination sanctioned schools.
Graphic lessons like this would have made Nursing School a whole lot easier. Thank you for all your educational videos. And, yes, thank you to those who donated their bodies to science.
post-session hangover remedy for me is for sure water. my body craves it in a particular way that nothing else does (obviously) so I lean into the feeling and stay hydrated as possible. better yet, drink water between opening a new drink and you’ll find your hangover will be far less painful 😄
When I went through my Special Forces medical training back in the 1980s, we were given the opportunity to assist autopsies when they were being done at the hospital in Ft. Sam Houston. One of the most memorable events of my life was when we did an autopsy on a middle-aged woman who was an alcoholic and had Hepititis C as well. She died of an aneurism. We had assisted on several autopsies up to this point, but when we opened this woman it was shocking. Her organs looked like they'd been put in a microwave on high for twenty minutes. Her liver was completely necrosed. It was just a black piece of lifeless meat. Her belly was full of more than a gallon of foul-smelling ascitic fluid. Her lungs were blackened coal from chain smoking. Her innards were so disgusting, I thought everyone should see something like that to show them the effect of abusing your body with cigarettes and alcohol. I stopped smoking after that experience, and I drink very little alcohol to this day.
Damn man that’s a hardcore and wretched of a vision to have! And Special Forces gave you this opportunity to do these? Was it as a preventative measure as they put so much into you as far as training and faith to get your job done, that they did that just to try to keep you guys dry when that moment came? I cannot imagine why else they would. But it’s something I bet you never forgot.
@@DeBee-dc9ce She was something like 58 years old. Fairly young considering. I'm 63 right now and I look much younger than she did. Cigarettes and alcohol age people drastically.
Pickle juice was always my go to if I had a hangover. I’d drink about 4oz then chug a liter or so of water and within a minute any headache or cramping was gone. Obviously from magnesium and electrolyte consumption but something about pickle juice just gets there more efficiently. Usually ate a banana after for the potassium too
@Nick Chapman I hope you get help stopping alcohol. I lost my brother on the 27th November he was a alcoholic and died from cirrhosis of the liver, he was only 44 years old. My brother died quickly but in a lot of pain. He kept saying he was going to get help but never did. I have also lost my dads partner and her son both from the same thing around 15 years ago.
Thank You. :) I appreciate that. :) It wasn't easy, what a long, lonely, road it took me down... Not to mention the time it wasted. What a waste. 😞 A beer here and there is still playing with fire but if you can keep your self-control under control. Then good for you bro (lucky, lol) keep it up. 👍

Interesting video. I remember presenting about alcohol in high school and when I said alcohol enters the blood stream, my teacher told me there is no way that could be true and people would die from that... she teached chemistry... and I got a bad grade, so I am very confused as I watch this video to hear I got it right, and I love the visuals. If I can go back in time I'd rebuke her and I'd probably have studied biochemistry since I find it really fascinating. Whenever I get a hangover after drinking, I definitely feel symptoms like dehydration and a bad stomach. I usually try to fix it by drinking lots of water, preferably milk. However, I always get extremely hungry afterwards, so I eat whatever I can find, whether it be leftovers or whatever. But yeah, for some reason a greasy pizza or burger taste so much better when I'm hungover, so I can understand why you would be going for something like that. And I have also found that fresh air helps rid myself of the hangover, especially if I take a walk
My mom was 42 when she passed away, my little sister found her. She drank about 1/5 a day, but got to the point where she had to drink. One day she woke up peeing blood…..she did not tell anyone but her best friend. This made me in my adult life to not drink alcohol, I watched my mom drink herself to death, I vowed not to put my kids through this, im now 58, and my kids do not drink, did I break the ring? I hope so.
Congrats on breaking the cycle. I dont want my son (or grandaughter) remembering me a as a piss head, though that is what I am. I keep trying tho. Posts like this do actually help. Thank you...

91 days sober after 12 drinks a day. Watching this and so glad I’m not into consuming this poison anymore Edit: I made it a year and am still going strong 😁
My hangover remedy was to drink a bit less than I normally did, then smoke a bowl...you're still enjoying that party high but don't have as bad of a hangover. Then before I went to bed I'd drink a large glass of room temperature water, take two ibuprofen, and eat a sandwich. The thought process was that the ibuprofen would help with the potential hangover headache, the sandwich would absorb some of the alcohol and I'd just shit it out the next day, and the water would rehydrate me a bit while I was sleeping. This did actually work, but I'm sure that's not really how it works scientifically. Remember, I was a partying 16 year old guy when I came up with it, and it made sense to me at the time. My partying was like normal teens, and at 25 I quit drinking altogether and haven't had a drink since and I'm 56 now. Good luck to all!

@Веселин Поповић Yeah once you start getting sick of anything, its time to quit. I have never been an alcohol guy. The moment I tried I quit with my pride handed to me. I will tell you an embracing story. It was New Years 2006 down town Toronto at a club. My college roommate at the time, and his goofy friends did a bet. Whomever could drink most, didn't have to pay the bill. me, the really non drinker could end up paying hundreds of $$ so I said why not!. I doubt I had anymore than 2 shorts of whatever they where drinking and my world changed. I felt like I was on fire. Took my shirt off and before you know it, bouncers and all where trying to stop me from taking my pants off. It was fun for everyone else except me. I ran right out of the club straight to the police squad car and laid myself on the hood creaming for help as I rolled and kicked like crazy. I ended up in the ambulance being treated for alcohol poisoning. Was my first major drinking event and the last one. I didn't take a sip of alcohol until a decade later at a carnival in South America. The moment I tasted the alcohol, it took me back and I put the bottle down. So get yourself together and find some new fun stuff to do. Sinuses today and tomorrow you'd be, if not already walking around with an ugly inside like that dead guy in the video. It would be a good test to see what alcohol does to fat for sure.
I have been slowly phasing alcohol out of my life. First liquor, then beer, now wine. I was amazed at how much better I feel in the mornings. Quitting IS hard, but I miss it less and less every day.

Do you do autopsy's?
See, I hate alcohol. I’m an addict. The “cure” for a hangover has always been more booze, get the good feelings going to block out the bad. My “hangover” is withdrawal and the only thing to fix it is opiates which caused the sickness, OR medications to combat the side effects. Decongestant, anxiety meds, and a anti-histamine to try to knock you out. That’s all that I could really do.

We have tried it with drugs, we have also tried it with alcohol, ever heard of the prohibition? All it does is create opportunities for criminals and cause even more suffering. Banning substances is not the way, why should everyone be banned from it because some people can't drink responsibly. It's your responsibility and yours only to exercise restraint. I say this as someone with an alcohol problem.
@@walter176 Funny how most muslim countries don't have as high crime rates as the US since they have alcohol banned. I wonder why?

Go to any Health food store in your area and purchase an herb called "Milk Thistle" it is clinically proven to reverse all and and any damage you might have caused to your Liver, as long as you are not on last stage of liver failure, take 1 capsule in the morning and 1 capsule in the evening with pure water, and in about 6 months you will start feeling like new again. But don't drink alcohol any more. I have known friend who were taken off of the Liver transplant list, just after taking Milk Thistle one year, non stop.
this guy's presentation style is magical, he throws in all this scientific trivia alongside the actual subject matter and yet it never feels inflated, but actually engaging.
Good for you there's life without alcohol and you remember everything too.i wasn't an alcoholic but could easily went that way i quit smoking and drinking at 25yrs.old I'm 71 now.i feel great,I quit when cigarettes were .85cents a package, good luck to all of you !
How did you quit? Cold turkey or through a program?
I quit smoking and drinking around the same time about 15 years ago and I feel so much better now than I did before it's unreal. I slowed my smoking down for about a year and then just decided to quit and alcohol I just lost my taste for it. But now I really hate being around smokers, they have no idea how bad they smell and don't like being around most drinkers because they can't tell how annoying they can be. I only wish I had never started or at least had quit sooner now that I see how it can affect others around me.
Good for you! I worry about a friend becoming a party girl too. I wish I can tel her but she won’t listen
It's a chore for me. I'm drunk right not. My friends are starting an aa group in a few weeks. I'm going to join. Tired of making booze a priority. I'm 41. Its time for a change.
This is probably the best video I've ever seen on alcohol. Being a professional alcoholic for over 40 years, I have seen and done it all. Thank you for trying to help our world.

I worked for a booze company for 30+ years: every year we had to spend a day on "alcohol awareness training". In my very first year (1975) the guy said "the definition of an alcoholic is somebody whose consumption of alcohol is costing them more than just the money". Sums it up perfectly.

God Bless you!
I'm sorry your experience. So glad you are alive and learning ❤ Stay well stay focused stay in fun🎉
I don't drink alcohol at all, and I'm often teased about it. After seeing this video, I feel so much better about my choice.

This is what happened to the man:
When the liver is scarred from the constant alcohol influx it can't properly function anymore.

How about 30yrs of heavy drinking and chain smoking but no symptom whatever?

The exact thing happened to me last week. Had to be in hospital for a week with IV fluids to heal my pancreas. Alcohol is devastating.

DARE didn’t work

Should be shown in High School and college. Do you know her approximate age?
