Just got my first tattoo on 5 days ago on Monday. Its Friday night right now...got mine on my throat/upper chest. About a 5x5 inch size. It has not peeled really, but it has some redness, minor swelling, my adams apple is sore. Lol The surface of my tattoo is rough looking, like a moisturized scab in a way, it looks like the tattoo is getting all messed up and starting to go throught the ugly healing phase. Gota a patch of small white bumps around my tattoo on my neck. Not effecting me or the tattoo as far as i can tell. I been experimenting on what i react to best. I bought Walgreens antiseptic hand/skin soap just to wash my hands. I found Hustle Bubbles Tattoo Wash is good. I spray a light coat of Bactine Max on, let it dry. I apply Mad Rabbit Repair Soothing gel. I have Aquaphor Healing Ointment on the side. Its too thick for the first week or 2, in my opinion but many surgeons and dermatologists find it useful and effective. *Do Not Use Neosporin on your tattoo!* It has ingredients that will ruin the ink.
Right me freaking out at a part in my tatto where it’s looked like it’s fucked yo the lining and color but i think it’s just a piece of flake in a different spot cause it’s moved around 😅😅😂😂😂😂😅😭😭😭😭 but my heart shaking hoping when it’s fully healed my shine as hair is gonna look amazing

I am so glad I came across this. I started flaking at day 4 and freaking out about how my tattoo would look. My tattoo is on the top of my right arm and shoulder, thank you 😊
I had no peeling until day 5. I’ve always used the soap and moisturizer method. My skin dries out extremely fast so I apply moisturizer as needed throughout the day

It’s quite small and is almost all linework so I’m sure that affects the peeling time. Anyway, I just came here to say to store your aftercare lotion in the fridge! I always soldier through long sessions as well. I don't like the anxiety that multiple tattoo sessions give me. I did a full hip to knee thigh tat and I sat for 13 hrs. With hydration and stretch breaks of course
I just had my neck tattoo and I wipe with clean water and a soft tissue then dry it gently and lastly apply a thin layer of healing ornament. I am on my 4th day and it just started pealing, so far haven’t had any issues. Keep up the good work man.
This helped a lot! i got my first tattoo 6 days ago on my right forearm and i’ve noted a lot of peeling on the 5-6 day mark. was sorta freaking out because of all the peeling. Thank you this helped alot!
I had tattoo done on my left forearm - small to medium/ black ink. Mine peeled in a week :) My tattoo artist applied second skin on my fresh tattoo and advised me to remove it on day 2 at night. My aftercare is washing it w cerave hydrating facial wash (unscented) then applying a thin layer of bepanthem ointment 1-3x a day. Once it started to peel, I switched to cerave moisturiser (unscented) :)
Got a new tattoo on Tuesday. It started to peel on Monday, so six days later! When cleansing or applying ointment on my tattoos, I never rub in circular motions. I always rub the soap/ointment in my hands, and then use patting/pressing motions onto my tattoos. This has always made more sense to me and seemed more gentle. :)
Black and grey heals within weeks with minimal peeling. Color starts to peel at day 4 and keeps going for almost 2 weeks. Slowing down of course when it's just down to stubborn spots. The black areas always calm faster. Color tattoos are far more painful for me to get but they are just fun also.
I got a chest piece on Saturday. My husband has been assisting me with cleaning and moisturizing the new tattoo. So far it’s keeping its shine. Thank you so much for the tips on tattoo aftercare
Got my tattoo 3 days ago, started peeling today. I got the tattoo on my left wrist and it's been a little itchy but honestly hasnt been that bad. Its peeling a little but the only reason why it peeled was cause i rubbed it a lil to hard. Be very gentle with your tattoo and try not to touch it as much as possible.
Just got my first tattoo. Very large color piece on my shoulder/bicep area. I started to panic because it was scabbing, cracking and getting tight. I saw flaking, peeling and ink raising up in a lot of spots, particularly red areas. I used the new skin for the first 48 hours. After removing that, I wash with Dial gold, air dry, coat with Bactine, air dry and then used Aquaphor till day 3. I swapped over to a Vasoline moisturizer with oatmeal and other healing aids while continuing the Dial and Bactine precleaning. I'm glad I saw this because I thought I was in trouble. I appreciate the content man!
Thank you for uploading these videos they have been helping me educate myself on tattoos, just got my first one 6 days ago and your advice has been working very well 👍
Got my first tattoo a week ago. It started peeling on day 3 and started REALLY peeling on day 4. It was painfully dry, but I already know I have dry skin and have a few Costco bottles of aveeno, which seems to work well. It’s so hard not to touch the flakes and scabs though, because it’s just so weird! I’ve never had a tattoo before. I want to poke it all the time.
Did the first session of my full chest piece 5 days ago. My artist used a second skin product and instructed me to keep it on for 3 days. I did so and compared to some of my other tattoos, this healing process has been going really well being the first time I’ve had second skin rather than plastic wrap. After taking it off and washing it ( in the shower under warm water very slowly and gentle ) my tattoo looked fresh and clean. My artist also recommended a tattoo specific ultra moisturizing cream I picked up for about $14 and it works amazingly! It keeps it moist for my entire work day. On day 4 the shedding began with very little itch surprisingly. Now day 5 the itch has increased with more peeling. Overall the best healing experience I’ve had so far.
Most of my tattoos have started peeling around day 5. However I just had my first long session (9 hours give or take) and it started peeling today (day 3)
Mine usually start to flake and peel between days 5-7. I just finished up the forearm portion of the sleeve I'm slowly getting. Did the forearm in 3 sittings. Second sitting was longer and a bigger piece of my arm than my first and third sittings. Second sitting peeled for like a month. Third sitting I just finished a couple weeks ago and am on day 17 currently. Flaking is done but still peeling but looks like it's starting to finish up. Be patient and don't stress, keep it moisturized :)
man I'm glad I found this video cuz I'm bouta get my new tattoo my forearm and I do not know what to expect watch this just got me on alert with the itchiness, peeling etc
I got my 6th tattoo last Sunday, it started flaking Friday. By the end of the 2nd week all the flaking done. As for care, I wash my tattoos with neutrogena bar, and use Aquaphor till it starts to peel. Then I use palmers cocoa butter to help heal the new skin.
Just got my sleeve finished yesterday, I've had certain areas have different healing experiences but it always peels but doesn't scab. I think everyone is just different in that sense. Regardless I personally use healing ointment until I see it start to peel and I switch to lotion. During the healing process, I always make sure to dab (and not rub) whether I'm applying lotion or soap to it or if I'm drying it. And then I just use a clean paper towel and dab the excess lotion off. It's also funny because my artist applies Saniderm to my skin once the tattoo is done and has me remove it 2-4 days afterwards and use the normal healing methods after that. Realistically though, you should always follow how your tattoo artists recommend you care for your tattoo over the information people on the internet provide (not that the advice on your channel isn't good, but the artists know how their tattoos will heal best) and if you're unsure, just contact them and ask them.
I recently just started getting tattoo on my hand, (no I did not pass out or cry… I actually giggle) weird I know, but this video actually helps with a good advice, it start to kinda flake or peel itself within 3 days early, I was panicking about it but now I know by watching this. Thank you Justin ❤️
i was recommended hustle butter which feels amazing on the tattoo havent had an itch yet its scabbing well. and on top of the keeps it nice and mosturized.
Started peeling on day 5, finished peeling on day 16 for my bicep. However my friend got a tattoo with me the same day same place and they only peeled on day 2 and had far less skin flake off in general. Both have healed the same now and look nearly identical in terms of the ink condition :)
i've gotten a inside forearm tat 2.5 weeks still peeling and parts of it are scabbing and some little bumps and omg itching ...love your channel really answered alot of questions for me...mine was a memorial tat for my wife of 29yrs that passed 2months ago...thanks again brother...i use the h2ocean products and love them
I just got my first one and about day 5 it started to peel. What i do is exactly as you said, when im showering i wash it gently and the peeling detach little bit by little bit :)
That additional info about washing your tattoo in the shower was so useful. I was washing my arm and one of my dragon scales peeled off and I thought I pressed too hard or wasn't suppose to wash it LOL. Thank you for this.
I had saniderm on my thigh piece for 24 hours. Afterwards I removed it in the shower and use antibacterial dove bar soap twice a day with aveeno moisturizer for dry itchy skin twice a day. I'm on day 5 and it's starting to peel and itch. So far so good 👍
So far I have the outer half of a sleeve and 1/4 of my other arm done. What I’ve found works the best is using the Saniderm for the first 3-4 days (unless it opens up and leaks). Then healing ointment for a couple days. It starts to peel within 2 or 3 days of having the saniderm off and I continue to apply ointment while it’s peeling. Circular motions while applying helps take off some of the loose flaking but not too rough. After maybe 3 days, I’m already done peeling and I switch back to my daily moisturizer. After two weeks, I’m basically healed up.
As of this morning I am on day 10 of my new tat. Its on my entire hand just past my wrist (working on a sleeve) Day 0: Just washed it with Dial Antibacterial bar soap with Moisturizer when I got home Day 3/4: Very dry (Gently wash tat twice a day with Dial Antibacterial bar soap with Moisturizer and use a thin layer of Aquaphor in the morning and at night) Day 5: very itchy/Starting to peel (Wash tat with Dial Antibacterial bar soap with Moisturizer once a day and then I switched to Lubriderm Daily Moisture Lotion twice a day (I work outside so I sometimes use more with the weather being so cold here) Day 10: Still peeling small flakes..still itchy and it looks ugly lol
Oh god thank you so much. I got a tattoo 3 days back, got really scared when saw my skin peeling and then the colour of the tattoo going but then watched this n now i m relaxed thanks a lot
THANK YOU. My tattoo started peeling and I’m only 5 days in. I was about to call my guy because inc was coming off the skin and it’s fuzzy. You answered my worries IMMEDIATELY.
It started peeling today at day 5 , I use moisturizer from bepathen like my artist suggested I also still wash the tattoo with soap once a day mostly before bed!. it works great for me, now I am at the hardest part with the itchyness, but as long as i stay busy its not botherin me
I got my 5th tattoo 4 days ago. I see 1 tiny little flake. So I think tomorrow it will start peeling. I’ve had majority of my tattoos start peeling on day 3 but last tattoo ( not this new one I just got but my 4th tattoo ) didn’t start peeling until 6-7 days. All of my tattoos have healed normally. I do gold antibacterial bar soap and aquaphor until it peels. Then when it becomes to peel I replace aquaphor for lubriderm fragrence free lotion. I buy paper towels to pat dry after every tattoo wash and once after applying aquaphor I’ll do a paper towel pat down that day only a thin layer is on the skin. Tattoo #5 is doing good so far!! My biggest tattoo and on my shin. Thank you for your videos !!! I used to be the one who panicked about my tattoos in the beginning but at this point I’m used to what to expect.
Great video! Exactly was I was looking for. My recent tat is like yours (black/grey). Took 4 days to start flaking. The intentional "darker" blacks are starting to match the intentional "lighter shades (grey) areas. I am worried about that - TBH. My aftercare/cleaning is same as your - except I lather soap up in my hand the lightly "pat/press area" to clean it. Then fill large disposable cup with shower water and pour over tat to wash off the lather. Pat dry after shower. Give 5 minutes to completely dry, then apply thin layer of moisturizer and let alone.
I just had my first tattoo done this past Sunday and noticed the peeling on Thursday. The design covers the area over my left pectoral muscle and trails off onto the front deltoid & parts of my collar bone. The colors seemed fine until today but your description of what's happening explains it.
Mine was actually a week, I recently got a big lion portrait on my lower left forearm, but mine did take a full week for it to peel a lot and become fairly itchy from time to time
I got two tattoos last week, they both started peeling around day 5, I was about to go crazy 😜 until I watched this video. I got a tattoo years ago and it didn’t flake or swell like these did.
I got my first tattoo on the back of my right arm on Saturday, and it’s currently Wednesday afternoon. It’s a small/medium size fine line tattoo. It hasn’t started peeling yet, but I had Saniderm on it for the first 72 hours and just took it off yesterday. I’ve been using Dove unscented soap, paper towels, and CeraVe daily moisturizer. Yesterday I used aquaphor a little bit too.
I just recently got 5 small tattoos and they are covered by 2nd skin. This is day 2 and it's looking great. My husband tried the 2nd skin and had nothing but issues. I believe 2nd skin is the way to go but you need to follow the correct procedure.
It's my 5th day since I got my first tattoo (on my back, right shoulder) and I'm here seeing all the healing process tattoos that is there on RUclips. 😂
Just got a medium sized tattoo on my chest and used a saniderm covering. I left the first saniderm on for like 3 hours before taking it off to clean it a little and then reapplied another saniderm covering and left that 2nd application on for like 3 days. Removed it, and then used anti-bacterial soap and aquaphor for a few days and then noticed flaking on days 5-7. Once there was only a little flaking left, I started using the lubriderm and continued washing with anti-bacterial soap. It looks good!
Day 4 in now and its beginning to peel. It also peeled a tiny bit on day 3. I figure it is my healing factor, I tend to heal fast. My first tattoo I made some mistakes. But I used A+D at first and swapped over to fragrance free lotion during the latter half and plan on going that route this time too.
This was really informational I really appreciate it. You also help reduce my anxiety about if my tattoo is healing properly ( i was going quite insane lol)
Had a half sleeve upper right arm done about five days ago, and it started really peeling a day or so ago, and is sore, but not itchy. It looked cloudy after about day three, and I used aquaphor and a Vaseline lotion, which isn't Vaseline (I know, don't use Vaseline on it, duh)that's very moisturizing for your skin. I also have PSA (psoriatic arthritis) and I didn't have any extra healing time compared to someone healthier. I've not had a tattoo in 15 years, and this is the biggest piece I've gotten that's new to me, but no big issues so far ❤
I keep saniderm on for 3-5 days until the plasma all dries up (my skin weeps a lot). This is when my tattoo will be ready to flake off. Then I start washing it gently each day (twice) to remove any flakes that are loose and ready to fall off. Moisturizer twice a day which also helps heal faster and remove the dead skin easier. Works beautifully.
I usually start peeling on day 4 or 5. I’m really worried at the moment though because I’ve just got a new tattoo and it’s peeling a lot and when I’m putting my aftercare cream/moisturiser on bits of the peeling skin is coming off and it’s all got colour from the tattoo in it. I’ve been told that it’s really bad if bits of the peeling skin are taken off too early but I can’t stop it from happening if I want to keep rinsing and moisturising it like I have to. It also happens when I’m rinsing the area. I’m being super gentle all the time because I don’t want to wreck it. Please somebody help
Im facing the same problem and was looking at the comments with a similar problem. I got a tattoo on my neck an its peeling. I wash it 3 times a day and then moisturize it. I dont rub it instead i do little tapsand try to get it covered. But though im getting little flakes stuck to my fingers. Idk what to do
I'm black. So far the peeling hasn't been all that severe. Neither was the redness or swelling. Peeling began on day five, I was using green soap and either natural almond oil or Vaseline. I tried moving to the tattoo Vaseline which honestly worked better than regular Walgreens bc it didn't dry up as fast. But then the fucking itchiness settled in and it was horrible. Start washing it more often with green soap or dettol, using antibacterial spray on top of it, and then switched back to almond oil again. Pretty much immediately stopped being as severely itchy. I'm mainly concerned about the peeling because it's going to day eight now and it's just not really peeling. It has a rough texture which likely is the scabbing. But the peeling hasn't really happened. I've had it avoid the sun and I avoid the shower spray on my arm. It doesn't even look real cloudy yet, and anytime I use the antibacterial spray or so there's no stinging so pretty sure I'm firmly at stage two of the healing process. I just keep trying to find out whether or not I can use exfoliating gel. There's just a little bit of peeling going on that makes one patch look kind of scraggly? But no one seems to agree on when you can begin using an exfoliating gel. I love my exfoliating gel and it immediately gets rid of any and all itchiness, so I really, really want to be able to use it again, but I also don't want to fuck up the top layer of the tattoo. I've never used the exfoliating gel over scabs before so I have no idea what it would actually do
Wish I did some more research before my first tattoo. It turned into a patchy, faded mess. The following two tattoos, thankfully, healed beautifully, due to good advice on YT. Now I just need to go and fix that first one.
Just got my first tattoo on my forearm just a small saying and my artist gave me saniderm seem to be healing well but it started itching and scabbing a full 24 hours after my artist said I must have good skin… thanks for all these videos they help

Realistically though, you should always follow how your tattoo artists recommend you care for your tattoo over the information people on the internet provide (not that the advice on your channel isn't good, but the artists know how their tattoos will heal best) and if you're unsure, just contact them and ask them.
just got my first tattoo last Wednesday evening and started peeling on Saturday/Sunday (it's a 7 inch diameter with full color, lettering, and design)
It’s my third day. And it just started peeling almost cried, thank goodness for your videos!!
Got my tattoo exactly a week ago and started peeling on day 4/5
Is it nca now?
i've gotten a inside forearm tat 2.5 weeks still peeling and parts of it are scabbing and some little bumps and omg itching ...love your channel really answered alot of questions for me...mine was a memorial tat for my wife of 29yrs that passed 2months ago...thanks again brother...i use the h2ocean products and love them
I just got my first one and about day 5 it started to peel. What i do is exactly as you said, when im showering i wash it gently and the peeling detach little bit by little bit :)
I got my first tattoo last Friday and today my skin peeling 😂 I’m so thankful for this video 🙏🏽😇
That additional info about washing your tattoo in the shower was so useful.
I was washing my arm and one of my dragon scales peeled off and I thought I pressed too hard or wasn't suppose to wash it LOL. Thank you for this.
Glad I was able to help and put your mind at ease for that 🙋🏼♀️
I had saniderm on my thigh piece for 24 hours. Afterwards I removed it in the shower and use antibacterial dove bar soap twice a day with aveeno moisturizer for dry itchy skin twice a day. I'm on day 5 and it's starting to peel and itch. So far so good 👍
Awesome video my tattoo is flaking up right now. I got it done on the 24th and now today is the 29th. Thank you so much.
Do I still need to wash it with unscented soap when it’s flaking? Or I just need to moisturize?
yup still wash with soap and put a moisturizer
As of this morning I am on day 10 of my new tat. Its on my entire hand just past my wrist (working on a sleeve)
Day 0: Just washed it with Dial Antibacterial bar soap with Moisturizer when I got home
Day 3/4: Very dry (Gently wash tat twice a day with Dial Antibacterial bar soap with Moisturizer and use a thin layer of Aquaphor in the morning and at night)
Day 5: very itchy/Starting to peel (Wash tat with Dial Antibacterial bar soap with Moisturizer once a day and then I switched to Lubriderm Daily Moisture Lotion twice a day (I work outside so I sometimes use more with the weather being so cold here)
Day 10: Still peeling small flakes..still itchy and it looks ugly lol
Oh god thank you so much. I got a tattoo 3 days back, got really scared when saw my skin peeling and then the colour of the tattoo going but then watched this n now i m relaxed thanks a lot
No need to stress and glad I was able to help out
Mine just started peeling too, this video is very helpful
THANK YOU. My tattoo started peeling and I’m only 5 days in. I was about to call my guy because inc was coming off the skin and it’s fuzzy. You answered my worries IMMEDIATELY.
This has given me so much relief man, had my first tattoo 4 days ago, finished work today took my coat off and freaked out 😂😂😂 thank you!
I got my first ever tattoo 11 days ago and started peeling on day 3/4. When I tell you it’s itching like a mf😭
Hahaha it's itchy as hell I wanna swim in coconut oil lol
It started peeling today at day 5 , I use moisturizer from bepathen like my artist suggested I also still wash the tattoo with soap once a day mostly before bed!. it works great for me, now I am at the hardest part with the itchyness, but as long as i stay busy its not botherin me
By day (4) my whole arm started pealing , & i got scared though my tattoo was messing up but you came in handy !!
I started freaking out today looking at mine, doing the flaking on my arm. This helped thanks my guy 🔥
Glad I was able to help and ease your mind 👊🏼
@@justinkd facts, love the content and tips keep it up plan to get many more so I’ll keep coming back!!
I just had my first tattoo done this past Sunday and noticed the peeling on Thursday. The design covers the area over my left pectoral muscle and trails off onto the front deltoid & parts of my collar bone. The colors seemed fine until today but your description of what's happening explains it.
Mine was actually a week, I recently got a big lion portrait on my lower left forearm, but mine did take a full week for it to peel a lot and become fairly itchy from time to time
Day 3 started, but the cloudiness is starting to freak me out. I'm glad you said it'll eventually pop.
Make sure hands are clean when you tap / slap !! And the pat applying cream is awesome 💪🏻 great advice
Thank you for easing my anxiety!! I begun peeling with some ink included on day 6.
I just recently got 5 small tattoos and they are covered by 2nd skin. This is day 2 and it's looking great. My husband tried the 2nd skin and had nothing but issues. I believe 2nd skin is the way to go but you need to follow the correct procedure.
Just got a fresh tattoo on my L forearm, started peeling day 3! I love using aquaphor and hustle butter for after care moisturizing :)
Just got a first tattoo so I'm re-watching all of these lol. As of right now it's day 4 and its started to peel
It's my 5th day since I got my first tattoo (on my back, right shoulder) and I'm here seeing all the healing process tattoos that is there on RUclips. 😂
Got my tattoo July 3rd & it’s been peeling for about two days now (today is July 12)
I start peeling usually day three or four. I keep myself moisturized and I only peel once.
i got my second tat like 4 days ago and i forgot how BAD the itch was and i did in two sessions so i’ve been in itchy agony for like 4 weeks 😭
I started peeling on day 4 i just thought i was healing faster then everyone
Always flake on that 3rd-4th day..the 4th day is when the itching starts.
exact same for me, I thought it wasn't bad... until day four hit & my tattoo got tickled by a thousand little fethers.
In Australia we use bepenthen. It’s also used for nappy rash but now they’ve brought out new smaller tubes actually labeled for tattoos :)
I got a hand tattoo about a week ago it’s peeling n so damn itchy😂
This was really informational I really appreciate it. You also help reduce my anxiety about if my tattoo is healing properly ( i was going quite insane lol)
Glad I was able to help you out 🙏🏼👊🏼
3:30 that voice crack lol, all love!
😂😂😂
Idk what to do
@@alayparekh4481 thats dead skin already, no problm
I used “THE MAN COMPANY” tattoo cream...it never itched!!
I’ll look into them 👊🏼
I've never used the exfoliating gel over scabs before so I have no idea what it would actually do
This video is literally amazing. I literally have to go back for my second session next week so this helps an extreme amount
Wish I did some more research before my first tattoo. It turned into a patchy, faded mess. The following two tattoos, thankfully, healed beautifully, due to good advice on YT. Now I just need to go and fix that first one.
Your arms are gorgeous!
Thank you 🙋🏼♀️
Started pealing 3 days after and this itch starting to annoy me 😂
The itch is definitely the worst part of getting a tattoo
My tattoo started peeling today... day 4
Mine, too!
Just got my first tattoo on my forearm just a small saying and my artist gave me saniderm seem to be healing well but it started itching and scabbing a full 24 hours after my artist said I must have good skin… thanks for all these videos they help
I actually got my first tatoo 7days before. I was really excited about my tattoo.and for my surprise today morning I saw my tattoo was peeling I was like what the hell. But thank God I got this video.thank you so much dear
