Shoulder Exercises with a Cast (Do These Sitting or Standing!)

- In this video, Michelle will guide you through her Top 5 Shoulder Exercises with a Cast that you can do sitting or standing.
Let's move your arm and upper body at a safe, comfortable pace. You'll move through gentle shoulder flexion, external rotation, extension, internal rotation, and diagonal planes of motion with your arm cast on. You'll find these exercises are great if you are noticing shoulder stiffness and soreness after a broken wrist or hand surgery.
Unfortunately, it is very common for your shoulder and elbow to get stiff when you sustain a wrist or hand injury. This occurs because you can not move or use your injured arm with daily activities such as reaching over head or behind your back.
You may notice just how quickly stiffness can set into your whole arm, especially wearing an arm or wrist cast for several weeks. Prevent a stiff shoulder and elbow with these gentle range of motion arm and shoulder exercises with an arm cast. You can do these lying down on your back and your side.
No equipment is needed!

Michelle, you have become my go-to expert for all things finger, hand, arm and shoulder. Broke my wrist in December and the only exercises I was told to do were some fingers moves after surgery, which was three weeks(!) after the break. Needless to say, my entire arm and hand seized up. Your videos are helping me get back my movement and strength. THANK YOU!
Beatrice You are welcome! I am glad you found my videos and you are putting in the work. It's not easy! Sending you continue strength on your recovery. 🤗
great relief. thank-you, michelle. Could you kindly very briefly explain the terms adduction, internal and external rotation, shoulder flexion and their significance.
This exercise was just what I was looking for. Got my arm casted a week ago (ulna and radius fractures). The exercises make the arm feel much better and I simply feel good doing them.
This is just what I was looking for after breaking my wrist a few days before Christmas. Thank you
Very good exercise,,thank you so much
Any exercises for the knees? Also, what does P.N.F stand for? Great exercises!
Lovely workout. very helpful. I'm experiencing a lot of pain in my left shoulder. Kindly recommend any additional shoulder exercises.
I'm starting to follow these exercises you've shared. It helps me a lot to lessen the tightness & soreness I' m feeling with my right arm. I've had my wrist fracture 2 months ago. My Orthopedics Dr removed the half of my cast last Saturday while waiting for my wrist brace. Thank you very much.
Excellent exercises - I’m one week in my cast from my wrist fractures and these exercises felt great and I will be doing them daily. I was searching for easy exercises I could do and these s perfect! Thank you
Words cannot express enough my gratitude for all your exercises to relieve arthritic pain. Thank-you.May I ask if you have any exercises to relieve arthritic pain in the knees? God bless you abundantly.
You are welcome! No I don't have anything for the knees, not my area of expertise.
Excellent relief. Would you have any video demos for arthritic knees? Keep up the good work. Once again, Thank-you. Hershal

I broke my wrist, and i am doing this exercise with cast. My orthopaedic will check the status of my wrist after 2 weeks. Looking forward for another x-ray and i hope no more cast.
At the outset, I want to thank you for sharing your videos. They are priceless, especially the shoulder exercises with a cast. After doing theses exercises I feel a lot of relief in my shoulder. thank you.. Do you have any exercises that would enable me to put on a pair of socks. I can't seem to bend far enough to put on my socks.
Hi Michelle, Would you have any isometric exercises to help strengthen my shoulder which would enable me to extend my hand above my head, without experiencing pain.
Good video i broke my wrist 5 weeks ago.. I can do all of these exercises 😊 very helpful
Glad it helped!
can these work for a cast that goes just past elbow (and which further inhibits natural arm shoulder movement)? ....or could u do another video for a longer arm cast? tx
Thank you for helping me on the road to recovery!

Thank you for your expertise!!
Glad to see this video. Just 3 weeks after surgery and the pin still on my arms. My doctor allowing me to follow along this program. At first day in doing this i feel a bit heavier on my shoulder but im sure later on it much more lighter. Thanks again for this useful video. It so helpful 👍👍👍👍👍for my forearm recovery

Thank you so much. I'm on week 5 for having a cast on my wrist as I broke both radious and ulnar bones after a fall. My fingers are very swollen and I find exercising helps the swelling to go down a bit. I'm so glad to have found your videos. Thank you .😀
Glad I could help!
When do start this exercise mam?
Thanks much, I am struggling to get my wrist functional and now my shoulder is terrible. This is great but a bit too late. I will try to do slowly and hope it will help. You are amazing!

Nice exercises of hand for shoulder pain. Very useful Madam.
Glad you liked it!
dang i wish I had known this as i was recovering from my distal radius surgery. Instead, I am now dealing with an almost frozen shoulder, along with trying to regain full movement and strength in my hand.
super exercise for the shoulders.thank-you,is it ok to do this exercise with both arms?
Sure! As long as you don't have a shoulder injury.
Didn’t get this msg with first wrist surgery till it was too late. My shoulder is a mess (prob impacted by the fall too). Having second surgery to remove hardware and I was looking for things I can do this time. Thanks!
thanks so helpful

Super thank your to your vlog my trigger fingers are back to normal
This is wonderful news!! Thank you for sharing! 🙌
Not wearing a cast, but have one shoulder that aches a lot and seems to have less than normal range of motion. I'm thinking these exercises will be what I've been looking for to cut back on the pain. More range of motion will mean less aching so it seems. I'm not so young, so there is probably wear and tear on the joint. These seem promising.
Yes! They can be helpful for your shoulder even if you don't have a cast on!
@@VirtualHandCare Thanks for all your work! I am doing things for my thumbs I learned from you, too. If I could get the shoulder happier that would be one less issue.
Thank you for these. I broke my radius one year into dealing with bilateral adhesive capsulitis. The guarding position means I've lost a lot of the progress I had gained on one side. It's been difficult.
Nice
