- The San Francisco 49ers spoiled Aaron Rodgers' return with a 32-19 win over the New York Jets on Monday Night Football. Brock Purdy finished with 231 yards and Jordan Mason put up 147 yards and a touchdown in his first start. Aaron Rodgers had 167 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Emmanuel Acho, LeSean McCoy, James Jones and Chase Daniel grade Rodgers' performance, then decide if the Niners put the NFL on notice with the win.

Niners should… Go BIG inside the Orange Zone (opponent’s 30yd-35yd line)… With JP, CMC, and Juice in the backfield, Kittle at TE, then 3rd and Jauan at WR. With that combination of size, power, and (most importantly) VERSATILITY, coupled with Kyle’s scheme, creativity, and the ability to use Shifts/ Motion to exploit mismatches, Defenses CANNOT even compete!
Let’s break it down:
1.) CMC: RB, Slot, AND Wideout/ X Receiver
2.) JP Mason: RB, FB, Slot
3.) Juice: RB, FB, TE, Slot
4.) Kittle: TE, FB, Slot, Wideout
5.) 3rd & Jauan: TE, Slot, Wideout… AND QUARTERBACK!
It’s literally impossible not to create AT LEAST two mismatches… You need at least 3 legitimate starting LBs and a star Strong Safety to even have a chance to stop the run in that formation. But then, you’re dead to rights in coverage. If you drop a LB for a Nickel to play the pass, you’re getting drug 30 yards and pummeled in the run game.
THEN, after dealing with that for a couple possessions before Halftime, you have to chase a flawless route runner like Aiyuk and a totally fresh Deebo after being beaten, battered, and bruised. Plus, the Defensive Line is exhausted giving Brock extra time to get the ball out downfield.
I love the “Purdy” Niners takes. “Oh its all CMC”. Purdy just has great weapons. CMC not playing, they dont miss a beat. “Oh any running back can do it in that system. It’s all about Shanahans schemes.” When the Niners lose, its on Purdy. When they win its the “stars” surrounding Purdy. When they win without the stars, its the system, or bad play by the opponent, or just anything or anyone other than Purdy. As they say, “denial isn’t just a river in Egypt.”
10 minutes grading Aaron Rodgers and talking about performance, and like 4 seconds talking about Brock Purdy, after outplaying Aaron Rodgers with no CMC and a rusty Aiyuk.
A undrafted free agent RB with +100 yards on his first start ever and the only topic is Shanahan.

The 49ers offense was fine. They knew the Jets weakness is stopping the run up the middle and the safeties, so they attacked that all game. The Jets were dominated. I'm a Jet fan and can admit they destroyed the Jets defense. It wasn't as close as the score made it look.

Even last year, yeah they won a single game (barely) but I believe SF was the better team and that we would have won a best of 3. Unfortunately that's not how the NFL works. 49er fan here. Clear to me that Rogers didn't lose that game. He played decently considering his past injury and time away. There were moments of the great Aaron Rogers we know. I wasn't expecting Rogers at his 100% best. But even Rogers at his best would've had a hard time when the rest of his offense is having discipline problems with penalties, dropping balls and just going up a damn good and adaptive defense. Like LeSean McCoy said - a rare time that I agree with him - that Rogers just didn't get enough opportunities, not enough time/plays with the ball in his hands, to get his mojo working. Rogers did fine. I'd give him a B- and the rest of the team a C. The Jets will get it together. I think they might make the playoffs but perhaps not last long in the tough AFC. But significantly improve over last year, is what I expect.

Anyone that watched the game knows Jets run defense is what lost the game. They ran like 175-200 yards on the ground against the Jets. As far as Rodgers, average sounds right. But to be fair, his last MVP season, Packers lost the first game and then he got hit so we’ll see.

The Jets OLine was probably the only bright spot there. They allowed 1 sack and it cost Aaron 5yds or so. If they can stay healthy most of the season the Jets can at least stay in the wild card hunt. I dnt see them overtaking the Bills or Dolphins in the division.
