Baker is finally healthy, has stability, matured and found the right fit and home.
He could have done well anywhere, changing offensive coordinators 3 times in 3 years will mess anyone up!
Properly humbled, focused, matured, winning, talented, having fun and easy to root for, again. There are very few baker haters but many baker skeptics and he’s won them over by his play.

Nobody seems to remember how dire it was for us before Gregg Williams took over midway through 2018. He and Baker had the team turned around around and winning games almost instantly.

@@jeffcressotticompletely disagree here. Watson was 100% a move by the owner so I don’t hold that against him but Berry has not been good as a GM for the Browns. His drafting history is horrific, especially on the offensive end. Almost every FA signing has underachieved. He made a good move for Amari but that list of positive moves doesn’t go much further than that.

He played the Giants. Having an NFL roster on the field with you vs the Giants is like playing any other team with CMC Deebo Aiyuk Williams and Kittle on your roster.
I love the slow walk backward for Nick Wright on Purdy. He's never going to give up, but he loses ground every week, gets further from the facts, has to try new analogies. Nick, kids nowadays call that "cope"
It seems like the same take he's had for awhile. Purdy generally plays well within the system we works with.
That seems reasonable. Purdy mostly makes good decisions but several other QBs are more talented.
Brock Purdy is just a guy. He could never take an AFC team to the playoffs but in the minor leagues aka NFC, he can. The NFC is an absolute joke compared to the AFC.

He's gone from saying it's a fluke or a flash in the pan, to he's being dragged along by his team mates, to the Jimmy G comparison, to grudgingly admitting he's a good decision maker and facilitator. He's still eagerly waiting for the other shoe to drop, but maybe someone pointed out how hypocritical he was being after endorsing Trevor Lawrence immediately despite the fact he can't match Purdy's consistent solid play.
Kyle never really trusted JimmyG's decision-making, football IQ and passing ability. That's why Jimmy had under 10 pass attempts in the 2020 NFCCG. Purdy is obviously a better QB than Jimmy, and Kyle knew it since day 1.
I remember seeing Purdy in his first preseason game and thinking "This kid's got fight, he wants it." just as a fun little observation. I had no actual idea what was coming.

yes, its amazing to me how brave purdy is in the pocket. Not sure I have ever seen a QB stand there and be willing to take a hit and not let it affect his throw the way Purdy does. He is so good at keeping his eyes downfield knowing he is about to get blown up and still deliver an accurate pass.
I was about to say the same thing about his Mason take also. Nick is always talking about 'Muh Avengers" to downplay Purdy.
The truth is Debo is good, but he is not really a great downfield WR. he catches bubble screens and is a RB. He did not really have Aiyuk last night either. The entire 'Avengers' narrative is BS. Many teams have the same or even better. Houston, Chicago, Detroit, Eagles, Miami, Cinci, KC. The 49ers don't have some crazy amount of offensive talent that is above and beyond everybody else. its good, but its not wildly outside the norm.

No kidding! Every pass attempt took seconds off my lifespan the longer that ball stayed in the air. With Purdy, I feel more relieved and not worried that something terrible is going to happen every time he throws it.

I think they mean like a field general qb would not do well in a scrambling system and so on and so forth. They all play systems though for sure
what QB doesn't benefit from a successful system ?
System QB means they have a specific system they need to thrive in. QBs that need play-action and run based offenses are system QBs. QBs that rely on their running ability to get by are system QBs. The truly elite, the ones that aren't considered system QBs, are the ones that can run multiple styles successfully and do the basics like regular drop back passes.
System QB is a QB who isn't good but looks good due to scheme. He isn't good or bad but leans towards bad. Aka 2015-2017 Alex Smith. He was bad on tape but his stats look good cause of how insane his playcaller was.
Tua, Goff, Purdy, Love all can be classified as system QBs.
Garrapolo is the ultimate system QB. Backup QB whose stats like cmp% , epa, passer rating are top 10 all time cause of that Shannahan scheme. So a QB thats not good nor awful but leaning towards bad. Often somewhere bewteeen QB20 and QB40.

The Cleveland Browns will pay for the mistake of Watson for a while. The Browns basically quit on Sunday. TB12 wanted to say it so bad. ALL he could say was that they are moving "backwards' 300 times.
Jimmy was not a B+ for the niners, he was the player holding them back. Purdy he way better than him. He stays calm.
Look at the stats. Last season with mcaffrey, jimmy had 16 td to 4 int. Their Super Bowl year he had 26 td and a 102 rating. He sucked in the playoffs but good on the regular season. Purdy could be a C quarterback

The Browns are hoping the NFL suspends Watson so they could weasel out of the contract. They need to be hamstrung by this albatross.
As for Baker Mayfield, I'm happy for the man. He was something of a laughing stock during his time in Cleveland. Things changed after he got picked up by the Rams and was immediately thrown in against the Raiders and surprised everyone. He's now found a home over in Tampa Bay.
He was originally the guy that you saw clips of and it was all for the bad reasons. He's now the leader of the Buccaneers after a full season starting for them, giving fans hope.

In 2020, the league average 49.6 points per game (both teams), the highest ever. In 2021, it dropped to 46.0, 2022 it was 43.8, 2023 it was 43.5. That was the lowest since 2008.
This is not a one week one-off. It's a three year trend.
Over those same years, yards per dropback have gone from 6.6 to 6.4 to 6.3 to 6.2, the lowest since 2007.
I've noticed many teams started playing shell coverage almost exclusively after that Bucs/ KC superbowl.
If you look around the league, many teams now have a blueprint geared toward beating the Chiefs. You have to overwhelm these young QBs at the line of scrimmage and keep everything in front of you. Your offense also must have multiple WR1s to even be in the game ( keep in mind, this is when the Chiefs had Tyreek and were nearly impossible to deal with)
I think the mantra "copycat league" applies here. Todd bowles, imo is the reason defenses have adjusted. There are so many teams that are more talented than what the bucs were in 2020 ( im not saying they are better). The league has become highly competitive in the search for pass rushers and WR1s.

Philly executed 2/3 push tushes & this was the first start for Jurgens under center. Also, several pundits had GB as their SB pick for the NFC, noting their high-power offense being the reasoning. Was the defense great? No. But they limited the Packers to two field goals on a short field. I like Nick sometimes, but when he has a bad take on a team or player; he rides it until the wheels fall off, ex: Jokic.
Philly (mostly Hurts and the defense) didn't look good. GB just looked worse.

@@TheCephalon Idk if I would call Rodgers washed quite yet. He still looks great throwing the ball. Yeah, the mobility is a question for sure. But he wasn't helped by all the dropped passes, the fumble and the int was really unfortunate being tipped like that. The defense also couldn't stop the niners at all. Defense gets a few more stops and you take away those turnovers and it would have been alot closer. Week 1, too early to tell. Not saying they are top tier but I can see them being a fringe team if they can get it together.

I’m from Cleveland and most of us here are shaking our heads. He never got a fair shake here and there was no stability for him. I’m glad he is thriving and doing well. I’m not sure his career would be going the same here. There is a reason why we have been through 30 some QB’s in the last 25yrs and it’s not because we draft bad. We don’t have a good foundation for any QB to thrive. It’s starts from ownership down and the Browns ownership sucks.
