Totally agree. That said, the "survival" of classical ballet does not depend on diversification, which is a cliché political statement by Stark. It depends on talent, and ethnicity or color of the skin has nothing to do with that. From what I know and from what I seen, the ballet is nowhere near the survival stage. I have seen this summer at Jacob Pillow's ballet companies that include great Asian, black and Spanish dancers. And, for the record, she was not a trailblazer, and certainly she was not persecuted as an artists because of the color of her skin. Such black ballerinas like Janet Collins (1917-2003), Anne Benna Sims, the first African American dancer at American Ballet Theater, or Raven Wilkinson (1935-2018) to name only a few, they were real trailblazers. i saw her in the nutcracker at the boston ballet. i learned she couldn’t play clara as a child because the “world wasn’t ready for a black ballerina.” she went on to be the 1st black sugar plum fairy in the dutch ballet. i know nothing about ballet and she was in the first performance i ever saw; it was magical and i am so grateful to her and her fellow dancers. i wish the world of ballet was more inclusive of people of all races and body types and had less stereotypes and racism. it’s honestly a disgrace and michaela was so strong and determined in the face of it. it must have been so difficult but she accomplished so much and created such beautiful art. she was an incredible artist and athlete. not to mention her strength to survive terrible experiences as a child and rise above it to accomplish her dreams and help others through her activism and generosity. from what i have heard it sounds like she was also a very kind and intelligent. edit: how are people using this to push covid vaccine conspiracy theories??? are we not over that yet??? leave this woman’s memory and her family alone. stop using her death to push your crazy agenda. her COD was released; she died during a surgery, which is surprisingly common, no conspiracy there. people were also mad that the family took a whole entire 1-2 days to release her COD. yall are wild. it’s one thing to wonder about it in your own head but talking shit about the family or demanding answers is terrible. it’s literally not your business; a public figure is still a human and you’re not entitled to know everything about her. im going crazy over here, i shouldn’t have opened the comment section. rant over.
That's where I learned of her also. Such a beautiful talent. It's sad to hear of her passing, but I'm glad to see from the comments how many lives she touched. Sadly with ballerinas this is not that uncommon. Its a demanding sport and has problems like eating disorders and drugs. Im not saying thats the case. It could have just been hard on her body even with a healthy lifestyle. Unknown underlying health condition? Prob waiting on full coronor report or something before they say anything.

i saw her in the nutcracker at the boston ballet. i learned she couldn’t play clara as a child because the “world wasn’t ready for a black ballerina.” she went on to be the 1st black sugar plum fairy in the dutch ballet. i know nothing about ballet and she was in the first performance i ever saw; it was magical and i am so grateful to her and her fellow dancers. i wish the world of ballet was more inclusive of people of all races and body types and had less stereotypes and racism. it’s honestly a disgrace and michaela was so strong and determined in the face of it. it must have been so difficult but she accomplished so much and created such beautiful art. she was an incredible artist and athlete. not to mention her strength to survive terrible experiences as a child and rise above it to accomplish her dreams and help others through her activism and generosity. from what i have heard it sounds like she was also a very kind and intelligent.
edit: how are people using this to push covid vaccine conspiracy theories??? are we not over that yet??? leave this woman’s memory and her family alone. stop using her death to push your crazy agenda. her COD was released; she died during a surgery, which is surprisingly common, no conspiracy there. people were also mad that the family took a whole entire 1-2 days to release her COD. yall are wild. it’s one thing to wonder about it in your own head but talking shit about the family or demanding answers is terrible. it’s literally not your business; a public figure is still a human and you’re not entitled to know everything about her. im going crazy over here, i shouldn’t have opened the comment section. rant over.
I remember her from the documentary "First Position". They cover her and her adoptive parents quite a bit. One of my favorite documentaries.
Oh thank you! I will go watch it!
That's where I learned of her also. Such a beautiful talent. It's sad to hear of her passing, but I'm glad to see from the comments how many lives she touched. From humble beginnings, to living her dream, to leaving a legacy beyond her life. May God be with all those she called family, and all those who loved her.
Yes!! That was it. Thank you for the reminder! Watching it again.
Michaela will live again. And hug her parents again.
They are all only sleeping.
John 5: 28
Acts 24: 15
The Scriptures have some 9 resurrections. Looking forward to meeting her in a peaceful new world.
Psalm 37: 29
Isaiah 14: 7
That is so sad. May her memory be a blessing.
Rest peacefully, beautiful!!!
She was an angel walking among us.. May beautiful Michaela rest in merciful peace
OMG! What happened? This is tragic; such a loss to her family and for those of us who loved to watch her artistry. Go rest high sweet girl 💜
Extremely suspicious death. 29?
When they don’t tell you, its usually the S word. So very sad! 😢❤
@@ebriggs3498or the unknown virus that is killing many since the rollout of poison
@@ebriggs3498I agree. It’s a very hard hard life being at that level of dance and beginning to age as new 17yo dancers are coming in. The level of pressure is insane.
@@ebriggs3498 what is the S word?
Our condolences to Ms. DePrince’s family and friends. What a beautiful, strong woman whose young life ended much too early. Her strength, resilience and life story are remarkable. I agree with the gentleman … ballet needs to be diversified.
No.
Needs to be diversified? How do you make this happen? Force children into daily ballet lessons? 😂😂😂
Okay everybody talks about this child and how she died but nobody says exactly what from; she was 29 years old.
Cover up
She was living in The Netherlands right? Its strange. I want to know what happened to her.
Probably the faucci ouchie iykyk :( May she RIP
Very shady how very few people are asking how this lady passed away.
@@angelit161 it's crazy because to me she's 29 years old she's a baby still. I didn't even watch the video and the first thing I thought of is how does this little girl pass away at 29?
This is a huge shock
I’m heartbroken & speechless
Can’t believe she’s gone
She was a true star
She was a gift to the world
Such a tragedy! I remember hearing about her years ago. I'm so glad that she got to live her dream before her short time in this world was over.
What an inspiration she will continue to be🩰❤
How did she pass at such a young age though?! So tragic
I was wondering the same. Ballet is a very physically demanding sport that sometimes encourages unhealthy practices. Hopefully she was not suffering anything like that.
Movie needs to be made of her life! What an accomplishment! Sorry for the loss of a beautiful person ! 💃🏻
I’m so sorry! You touched our hearts 💗 I will never forget her! 💃🏿🩰💖
Elephant in the room alert:
How did she die?
29 is abnormal . . . and I'm made all the more suspicious when nothing is even mentioned about cause.
Drugs probably 😅
@@davidrios3372 nope
Probably needs an autopsy. We didn’t know why our aunt passed away suddenly for weeks because we had to wait for an autopsy.
Cancer or heart attack.
@@davidrios3372You need help
RIP Michaela. You are a shining example of the strength of will.
And cause???? Hello!? 29 year olds just don't up and die like they're 90.
And the cause of death was...????
Same question here, it’s odd they didn’t mention it. Her story is amazing though
We are not supposed to talk about that.
The MSM propagandists don’t like to talk about that anymore. It’s just totally normal for 20 yr olds to keel over from strokes, cancer, heart failure and blood clots. Nothing to see here. Totally normal. All cause mortality is alarmingly high and they’re going to spin it as just normal, related to climate change or video games or some other nonsense. We need to restore the Smith Mundt Act to make propaganda illegal again.

Condolences to her family. it’s sad this type of racism happens to lots of children. She was a role model for anyone struggling with doubts and self assurance. Rest In Peace Angel
Prayers for family and friends 😢
Didn’t god plan her death? Or are you saying he isn’t all knowing?
She had a wonderful life. What a story. May her soul R.I.P. Beautiful black princess.
How about the reason she died????????

Awe RIP Princess.❤
I know what it's like to be a young black ballerina.....its not easy.....she was a real hero
Jeezesus, so painfully sad. To RISE from literal hellish conditions to dance at the highest levels of art & achievement. If there's a Heaven, she's dancing for the residents.
Makes my complaints about 'life' sound like a crying baby in a crib.
My deepest condolences/sympathies to her family, friends and peers.
The worst pain always gives birth to phenomenal talent
Not curious how a 29-year-old died, huh...
Amazing!
Very true. She is/was a shining example of if we want to we can. No whining about her childhood trauma just full steam ahead… She never made herself a victim!
She was beautiful on many levels ❤ glad she opened that path for others. Rest in peace ❤
RIP 🙏Michaela, you touch the world 🌎 in your brief time here on earth.
How can this young lady die so early without a reason?
I can think of one. It is a cause that is heavily censored and has been occurring with regularity since 2021.
@@betsyj59 gun violence?
We are not supposed to ask questions, if that tells you anything.
Good question.
Condolences to her family and friends ❤
Tomorrow is not guaranteed
What a huge loss to the world of ballet, and to her family and friends! What a legacy she has left! There’s a bright star in the universe! May her memory be an inspiration and a blessing!
