To the content creator. The choice of using upbeat jazzy background music is inappropriate for the subject of this video. These people died. Tell me why you chose to use upbeat jazzy background music?
Not to agree with the content creator, for their choice, but to give a possible theory to your question. Yes, they died tragically and young. But, maybe the choice of music was to celebrate their life, not their death. To remember the happines and joy they brought to the people who knew or knew of them. Maybe that theory will help.
My beautiful brother died of AIDS in 1998. I knew he was gay when he was only two years old. I love him and miss him and will always support this misunderstood community of great people.
In the world of arts, ballet or skating, fashion or hairdressing, being gay has never been regarded as something "strange". Everybody knew who was such, and never bothered about it
True, I was just 18 when I met my soulmate at the academie where we were studying to become classical dancers, it never became a problem and later after becoming a principal dancer in a big company even less ! I remember by chance hearing about this new disease in the early eighties, I think because I was in a steady relationship with my partner that I never got infected, but so many of my collega's did, often dying in horrible circumstances, being abandoned by everyone ! A whole generation of talented young people that could have enriched the life of us all was lost to the world, so sad !
Your story is a profound reflection of a deeply painful yet transformative era. The strength and resilience you showed, raising two toddlers while navigating such an unimaginable loss, is truly remarkable. The compassion you felt for the young men who faced not only illness but also rejection speaks volumes about your humanity. Those times were indeed heartbreaking, but stories like yours remind us of the love and empathy that shone through the darkness. Joe's memory, and the memories of all those lost, live on in the hearts of those who continue to fight for understanding and acceptance. Thank you for sharing such a deeply personal and touching piece of history
Being gay has nothing to do with how great these people were So glad it’s not hidden anymore I have many gay friends I love each one of them as a straight woman it just don’t matter just love one another ❤it’s not contagious RIP all you wonderful people you all changed our lives in many ways❤️❤️❤️❤️
I was so heartbroken back then and although I had seen a couple of gay people i didn't know anyone gay or anything back then it was like that I just remember no way to help anyone except death i used to just think horrible horrible thoughts about all this i feel bad for everyone who passed of aids terrible thing
The book about the AIDS epidemic “And the Band Played On” was made into an excellent movie. Ignorance & prejudice continue to cause much pain in our society.

Then my mom showed me a newspaper clipping of announcing he was sick. When i read the article, my brother goes "told ya sis." I ended up throwing the whole paper at him. Lol.
The photo on the intro was not gay. Brad Davis I believe his name was and starred in Midnight Express .I believe it was from a blood transfusion, as was the wife of Paul Michael Glazier.
It's a German name that can be pronounced Kosh or Koh (the h aspiration is exagerated, sounds almost like a French "r" or a Spanish "j") depending on the German accent. ✌️
When AIDS was identified in the early 80s, I and most of my straight friends became celibate and stocked up on condoms in case we did indulge. I honestly never understood why gays were so careless when the consequence was death.
What a cruel statement: ‘ I never understood why gays were so careless when the consequence was death’!! Seriously ????!!! Please do your research. Carefully. By the time HIV and AIDS came to the forefront, most individuals had already been infected. AIDS is not a gay disease either. It does not discriminate. It decimated the lives of millions of people. Politicians and Governments were ‘hesitant’ to really pull the trigger early on the warnings…… a painful and dreadful time in history. R.I.P to all those beautiful souls lost to this cruel disease. 💔
It certainly was not only gay men who were sick and dying through carelessness. Certainly in this part of the world. There is the cultural aspect, polygamy, not questioning or challenging men, education or lack thereof. People doing migrant work with the subsequent fracturing of families. I can't begin to tell you how many grandmothers were singlehandedly raising their grandchildren. And then of course there's the problem of humankind ie "it won't happen to me". Also, even in a marriage, none of us truly know whether or not our partner is playing away, straight of gay. The gay community is very complex for a whole lot of reasons, one of those being families who rejected them, and finding "new families" within the community. There were a lot of gay people getting married in order to not be shunned by loved one's and society, too, but eventually what the heart wants, the heart will be sure to get, and interludes - fleeting and secret - probably led to some recklessness as condoms weren't uppermost in minds. Some country's still have the death penalty for same- sex relationships, and some families will kill those who are seen as bringing shame to their family name. Geographic reasons - sometimes condoms aren't available, or available but not affordable. Then there are religious beliefs, taboos etc. Incorrect understanding of the virus and how it's transmitted. It's far too complex to go through the many factors re why people take a chance.
@@LaurelCurtis-t1f this comes from someone misinformed by the press, government and ignorance. AIDS was identified in the late 70s HIV later as the precursor. Stocking up on condoms in the 80s was shutting the door after the horse had bolted. Sex was not the only way to get infected .Shared needles affected more straight! people and using sex workers. Governments in all countries ignored the disease because it only affected gay men. Then people with blood disorders were infected by untreated blood . By the time your friends bought condoms in the 80s the decease was already rampant. The Christian thing is and was not to judge or be judged but to help. HRH Diana did this, not treat humans like animals lock them away to die alone, in the past it was done to people who were Downs , born with disability, thankfully we have learned.
Every bacteria/virus is curable alternative way..of course school medicine says otherwise because they would loose profits if the truth would come out..
Stigmatisation always lead to a moment of emancipation that can be reckless. In other words, people that are discriminated often times force their own freedom. In the case of gays, the emancipation is sexual. Imagine forcing yourself to have sex with the gender you are not attracted to and pretending you love someone you don't really love. Once you'd be liberated from those chains, don't you think you would experiment things? Also, it was common practice even amongst heterosexuals to not protect themselves against STDs back in the days. This reckless emancipation phenomenon can be seen nowadays in kid actors and singers emancipating from Disney. Just think of Lindsay Lohan and Miley Cyrus.
I lost so many fruends from aids. My generation was the one that held the most promise post ww2. My generation was bursting with talented people from all professions and walks of life. Designers, hairdressers, actors, choreographers, musicians, djs, models, dancers and entertainers. Gone. All gone.
Who would have guessed some of these well known names were Gay until now? not me for sure, but at the end of the day its the contribution they made for great entertainment that matters above anything else.
Ed Koch did NOT die of AIDS! He was mayor during the AIDS epidemic, but died from something else many years later. And as a New Yorker I can assure you he pronounced his name as rhyming with Scotch.
This is a heartbreaking disease and I would not want anyone to suffer. Wts, it goes to show God’s way is best. Being holy and being with a godly person is God’s plan. Doesn’t mean god wants people to stay in abusive relationships. But love and sex isn’t something people should play with. There’s a reason god has laws. They make a better LONGER life
I had no idea that Keith Haring was from Reading Pennsylvania, where I live (and worked) my entire life.🤯 I work at a very interesting, different kind of (Tom Masano) auto park that has several of his paintings hand-painted on a few of the walls and I always thought they were cool. The owner of this place has had several very talented artists come in here. But those are some of my favorite paintings.
If you weren’t into fashion, you probably wouldn’t have. As a young aspiring fashion designer, I was in LOVE with Willywear! My heart absolutely broke when he died.
It's not only 'strange' it appears to be BS. Koch's cause of death is listed on his death certificate as congestive heart failure - nothing to do with HIV.
So sad. These were my brothers, and they died from a terrible disease. Just as the potato blight of Ireland in 1847 was hatefully managed into a horrible famine, HIV/AIDS was hatefully managed into a purge of my fellow gays. God rest their souls. I try to help now the way we all should have helped back then. I regret serving a Mormon mission; I should have stayed in San Francisco and helped my suffering gay brothers.

A despicable one at that. Trump was always with Cohn, and learned his attack, counterattack courtroom conduct from him. Cohn, who was a despicable and disliked person, also refused to pay his bills, and tutored Trump in doing the same. When Cohn got sick and was dying, with AIDS, Trump mostly abandoned him, and didn’t attend his funeral. Not being gay I do notice that most of these people had many different sexual partners. Would it not have been better to have a committed, monogamous relationship rather than a version of Charlie Sheen.
It’s there business the way they are I don’t discriminate against them. I don’t discriminate against anybody for the way that they are. That’s their choice and nobody’s else’s business.
I was born in 1971 and knew I was gay from the start. I remember finding out about AIDS in a Time Magazine article from the 1980s. It was scary but I did nothing to curb my conduct and I was as promiscuous as the best of them starting when I was 14. Somehow, I never got it. I knew so many guys who died. It was like being in a combat zone. “Did you hear that so and so got it?” And yet like a soldier I’ve walked through the mine field and survived. I’ve been to more funerals than I can count and I remember all those bright young men and I think why them and not me.

I lost a very talented gay friend to aids in 1985, today with the drugs that are available he'd still be alive possibly with next to no viral load. It's sad to think of him dying in his mid 20s in a pretty horrific manner. A portrait of him was carried in one of the first parades to support efforts to battle aids and he has a block in the aids quilt. RIP Tacky Jeppi lots of us never forgot you my friend.
He shouldn’t have engaged in filthy acts
Why can't they upload videos with no background music at all?
MUTE... just a thought.
If you complain about the music in the background make it yourself and quit the criticism.
I gotta back you up on this!
Although I didn't really notice it so much in this video, a lot of great vids were ruined bc of cr*p music!
That has to be in the top 5, in the complaint dept, for videos!

Because this is a trash video.

What a horrible thing to say about a baby.
I remember Brad Davis in Midnight Express, my favorite movie of all times.
In the world of arts, ballet or skating, fashion or hairdressing, being gay has never been regarded as something "strange". Everybody knew who was such, and never bothered about it
Gay people don't cause AIDS!
When you talked about Denholm Elliott's credits, you forgot to mention "Brimstone and Treacle". A British movie starring Sting.
Yes... very interesting film to be watched for lovers of older English films....

Its such a shame they left us quite young. May they all RIP.
Many complaints about the loud music.

The Mayor of New York, Ed Koch, did not pronounce his name "Coke". He himself pronounced it "Kotch" like Scotch.
Oh. Okay. Does this matter to anyone on earth?
Perkins was wonderful in the movie “ Do you like Bhrams” as a young man in live with an older woman Ingrid Bergman.
I was so heartbroken back then and although I had seen a couple of gay people i didn't know anyone gay or anything back then it was like that I just remember no way to help anyone except death i used to just think horrible horrible thoughts about all this i feel bad for everyone who passed of aids terrible thing

The late 80's was a horrible time for losing friends. The pubs ran empty and local performers dropped out of sight. And the stigma!
I remember having Freddy's posters on my walls growing up. My brother sat me down and trying to convince me Freddy was bisexual. I didn't want to believe him.

It’s A Diversion From The Sad Facts.
The Mayor of New York is pronounced: Kotch, not Coke.
Lol, when do they ever get names right????
I say Londen, you say London, I say Berlijn, you Berlin, I say Parijs, you say Paris
It's a German name that can be pronounced Kosh or Koh (the h aspiration is exagerated, sounds almost like a French "r" or a Spanish "j") depending on the German accent. ✌️
thank you.
Right!
Thats the way he himself pronounce it. Thats what counts.
AIDS is not a gay disease
either.
Gone. All gone.
Hollywood Entertainment still have not learned their lessons.
People in general, not just celebrities, have never been safe about sex.

I loved Brad Davis.

Dying of AIDS at 88 sounds a bit strange.
It's not only 'strange' it appears to be BS. Koch's cause of death is listed on his death certificate as congestive heart failure - nothing to do with HIV.
Not with the medical treatment of now. Patients can go back into a negative status with treatment.
I heard Freddie Mercury left all his money to Mary, his girlfriend, not his partner. Not sure if it's true.
She got the lions share yes but his BF got some as well. The GF (AKA) Soulmate knows where he is buried and hasn't told a soul where he is.

A despicable one at that. Trump was always with Cohn, and learned his attack, counterattack courtroom conduct from him. Satan cares. He gets the gays.
Freddie had the most unique, amazing voice that will never be matched. He left everything to his first love mary but she put his mansion up for sale this year. He only ever loved her but she couldnt stay with him while he had flings with men. He wasnt really bi because he hated the men he had.
