Welcome to the Heavy Spoilers show, I'm your host Paul and this video we're breaking down X-men 97.

Episode 4 and 5 had two big cliffhangers and the first of these are something we're gonna explore now. Life Death part 2 is cooking up a Storm and we watch as two characters Forge an alliance. That's against a villain that we'll touch upon in just a bit but in this video we're gonna break it all down. This includes the easter eggs, comic book references and everything you might have missed in the episode. Heavy Spoilers ahead so if you don't want it ruined then I recommend you turn off now. Now as always we get the intro playing out with a couple of additional shots thrown in. These often reference things from the original and help to show what direction the episode is gonna go. For example episode 2 had the Morlocks appearing while 4 had the episode where Jubilee fought Mojo.
Last week had Cable popping up before he popped up and I wish he'd shown up to warn me that these mutants were Exodus and Frenzy instead of letting me say we thought it might be Azazel. Thanks a f**king bunch Cable.

97? As I'm 1997 not 2025 . Mcu and xmen 97 will not connect , and binary will not appear. Why because of secret war . Avenger 5 will end with the multiverse being destroyed and battleworld being created. Avengers 6 will end with a soft reboot as the Multiverse is reborn in to the "all new all different " making it way to complex to fit in to series

The way I viewed it, Forge’s initial cure for Storm to get her powers back actually did work, but it was her own psyche that prevented her from accessing them. She was able to unlock her abilities by overcoming adversity and denying the Adversary’s power over her.
This is exactly it.
That’s how I interpreted it. Forge can make anything and they ALWAYS work.

yeah it would've been ridiculous otherwise. like the gun that hit her did absolutely nothing and she could just turn her own powers back on whenever she wanted. thanks for filling in that plot gap (although they really shoulda thrown in at least a line alluding to that.)

27 and loving it. Watching it with my dad that grew up watching it whereas I’ve seen bits and pieces of the old one growing up but went back and watch it all on Disney+. My dad is very critical of marvel stuff recently but loves X-Men ‘97.

Considering gambit was Death for a short time, this has merit. Banshee was also a horseman. I theorize Apocalypse's next iteration will include mutants killed in the genosha attack, including Dazzler and Calypso.

@@Da_Willuminati21that’s only so far. It hasn’t been confirmed if it’s just those 3 and the series has done well enough to justify up to at least season 3. If it keeps going at this same momentum it’ll likely be renewed for more
I still want to know what he could have done to get fired after the job he's done. Then I'll consider signing that petition. If it's over something really hinky, then obviously no, shame though it is, but the reason better be good. If it's a matter of money, like they think he was asking for too much of a raise, then they need to open up those pocket books!
No he intentionally injected his “identity” into the show and it was felt early in the first episode. Like enough to make you question and then look it up to see if anyone else was feeling the same way and then find out he was fired and said he did 😂😂😂

What an incredible episode. It's truly cinematic and Storm's rebirth felt like Man of Steel with her taking flight but going through that beautiful change. Also the opening montage sequence with continuing to tell stories of classic episodes from One Man's Measure to X-Factor to The Phoenix Force to Nightcrawler appearing in the opening credits just amazing. Getting to see Nimrod coming out of Master Mold from the future being sent into the past like the T-1000 to assassinate Charles Xavier.
I have always had a grudge against Forge. All of his stories growing up were him betraying or screwing over mutants, immediately followed by some kind of excuse of why he didn’t have a choice, never accepting responsibility despite his great power. Spider-Man & Uncle Ben would not approve.

I wonder if Wanda and Pietro (and Lorna) will make an appearance for the funerals of Magneto and Gambit, especially since Magneto is their Father.
And I hope that they maintain that Wanda and Pietro are still mutants.
Here's a theory.... if it is the big "A" coming. That would make sense when we saw Charles vision of Gambit since Gambit was one of Apocalypse's horsemen. He was Death at one point. So could that be how they bring him back? As Death, then leading that into the next season they have to save him? Could be interesting way to bring him back .

Apocalypse was my one of my favorite vilians. Id love to see his power and fury done justice. I wonder if they use apocalypse to bring back gambit as the horseman of death. It would be great as i love both characters so much...
The watcher was present at the space battle. You can see him in the opening seconds
9:40 "Forge doesn't have amazing powers" I mean, in the comics he can literally build any machine he can think of. He's like a Green Lantern but he has to physically assemble everything. Pretty cool mutant power
It is pretty cool, but admittedly it only makes him less smart Tony Stark.
@@Marco_Onyxheart Maybe it's more that the character's writers have been less smart over the years because Forge is generally a background character and not the main focus, so there's less of a motivation to make him overpowered.
I feel like there's an issue of X-Men where he essentially pulls a spaceship out of his ass and no one questions it.

Storm power up gave me those sailor moon vibes, Totally loved it. The final moment where Charles was shocked to see Gambit almost broke me.

The Sinister/Trask "alliance" might be this series version of Bastion's Origin since there is no Siege Perilious .
Although that plot was similar with the comics version of Casandra Nova and the dentist Trask Lol. Since no Nova, Sinister would do.

Something you got wrong/missed. Storm told Madelyne Prior that she wonders what it's like to be human. However storm didn't know it was jeans clone and still doesn't because she left before Jean returned. This is why in the episode she mentions it and talks about Madelyne as if she were jean
I’m glad Storm got her powers back due to her overcoming adversity. It makes sense. In the comics, it took her nearly 4 years to get her back. Also, the Kymellians show up in the scene where Professor X and Lilandra were walking in the garden too. They first appeared in Power Pack #1 in 1984. I’ve always wanted a Power Pack movie.😊👊🏾

I bugged out when I saw Professor X in his fit from Uncanny X-Men 275. Also seeing Vulcan for that quick second. They are laying the ground work for the future.

Gladiator is of course based on Superboy, with the Shi'ar Imperial Guard based on the Legion of Super-Heroes. Created the late great Dave Cockrum, who drew both LSH and X-Men.

48, and these are the comics I read that have made me a lifelong fan of X-Men. It's awesome to see when the source material is adapted by creators who honor and pay homage to it. It's also extremely nostalgic. I can't say enough about how good this show has been. I hope Marvel films is taking notes for when they finally decide to bring X-Men into live action.
I hope that they will go into more detail about this subject later on,Vulcan story was definitely one of the best out of earth stories.

@heavy spoiler adversary recently has been retro actively been a kind of variant of shadow king in the recent magneto comics
Spoiler: They are setting up the Age of Apocalypse storyline that appeared at the end of 'Wolverine and the X-Men'. Literally wouldn't be surprised if they dusted off the script for the unmade second season and adapted it. Basically they need to reintroduce Psylocke, Colossus, Iceman, Bishop and Arcangel and split into Blue and Gold I think.
Didnt they already do age of apocalypse in the oringal series?

The original cartoon told a story about what would happen if the Professor was assassinated.
It was this cartoon-exclusive story that served as the inspiration for the Age of Apocalypse storyline in the comics.
So in short: AoA has already been done.

I for one think the big baddie will be indeed Sinister. Paul, you don't give the man enough credit! Freaking love the fact they change up the intro to adapt to "current" members -- Feels true to the X-men comics where the team has constantly evolved.. Nightcrawler's intro scene is "chef's kiss" -- And very happy with Storm's storyline in this episode.. Man the show is SO good.
I don't know how I feel about Storm getting her powers back so easily and this soon. In the comics, the years Storm was without her powers were some of the most important character building moments for her to be come the great leader she is. She led the X-Men and Morlocks through the mutant massacre with the Mauraders all without having powers just to state an example. It makes me wonder what was the point of stripping her of powers if they were going to just give them back without exploring that momentous period in Storm's life.

A lot of Native American peoples view owls as symbols of death and other negative things. So it makes sense the Adversary would take the form of a monstrous owl.
Gladiator does not protect Xavier. He goes to protect his queen. She is his priority.

I didn't like the Dr. Strange style magic. I feel that it should be visually distinct since Forge is a shaman. Even the MCU shows a difference between Asguardian magic, normal earth magic, and Wanda's magic.
You've got that right. Shamanistic magic should be shown differently from the magic use by those sorcerers that have been trained at Kamar-Taj.
It's my goal to play the role of "Forge" if we get him in the Live Action MCU

Also you get to see the original Captain Mar-vell during the Imperial Guard attack on Ronan The Accuser and his armada. Vulcan part of the Imperial Guard and another brother of Scott Summer's says they are setting up a crazy family reunion of sorts.
It’s amazing how much they fit into 30 minutes without it feeling rushed

I'm 53 and had started collecting X-Nen issues in the 80's and early 90's . I'm loving this series even more now than I did back when it was on Fox . Thank you Disney/ Marvel and hopefully to see Spiderman back to continue his story as well !
Yes I believe we are getting Apocalypse. It would be good to get another representation of him since Fox almost ruined him. I think Cable definitely hinted to this with him saying his iconic, "He's coming."
Soooo, you subconsciously planted the idea in my mind that Vin Diseal should play Vulcan in live action.
Some of the lines were so cleverly worded, or just well-written. "Performative act of Jingoism" is *so* Charles. And as for "You may bark later"? Horny AF and hilarious.
But frankly, I'm still reeling from that stunning line delivery which closed last week's episode. The way she emoted while uttering the line with that Roguish, musical lilt - only this time soaked in sorrow.

I mean, is there an award for best line reading by a voice actor in an Animated Television Series? Because that wins. Hands down.
Love Nightcrawler on the title card gathering he’s jointing the team. Wish we had more development for Storm story but love she’s back in her original retro outfit ❤️
Really can’t wait to address the aftermath of the Genosha massacre. Wonder if the Shiar will be explored more in season 2. Definitely surprising they introduced Vulcan. Sad they could fix Charles legs. Wish he had a better code name as it keeps reminding me of Star Trek

The way they show magic in the show just proves to me that at some point they're going to connect this to the MCU cuz the representation of the magic forge was doing is literally the exact same way it's shown in the MCU with the golden rings and the sparkles and all that shit
I wonder if the Shiar are related to the Romulans from Star Trek, they have a group called Tal Shiar, and their battle ships are called war birds with a similar design as the Shiar ships
