Welcome to the Heavy Spoilers show, I'm your host Paul and this video we're breaking down X-men 97.

Episode 7 is now out and throughout this video we're gonna try be up to the Trask to bring you a big breakdown of the episode.

Sinister things are happening in the Marvel Universe and throughout this video I wanna be a bastion in breaking it down.
This will cover easter eggs, hidden details and our theories for the future as we head towards that finale. We know the next three episodes are all part of a three parter called Tolerance is Extinction. So it all kicks off from here and yeah, there's a lot of things I wanna talk about.

Usually love your breakdowns but your going on a rant describing Hope summers when you normally just stick to the show. Stick to the show please. If you’re having to breakdown every word from the comics something is wrong.

And is it just me or does it seem like Jean is getting stronger?? She’s not fainting/ moaning after lifting a book anymore
I think in Episodes 3 to 5, Jean explained she’s having to relearn her mastery over her powers again after she awoke from Sinister’s lab with fragmented memories.
Jean has always been an incredible powerhouse. So I’m happy that they’re showing this and getting rid of her fainting and moaning/X-gasm running joke.
In X-Men Evolution, Jean was incredibly useful, competent and very powerful, and didn’t faint or just moan and collapse. And that version was widely liked. So hopefully that carries over.
She definitely starting to tap into that Omega level potential
@@javiervjason4561Jean in only an Omega level telepath. Far more powerful than Xavier.
Her telekinesis however, is Alpha level. Which I’ve always disliked. I prefer the idea that her telekinesis is Omega level too.
Of course, with Phoenix, she becomes far, far, _far_ beyond Omega level.
Ironically, “Phoenix” was originally simply just Jean with her powers at their maximum potential. It was all her own power. It was only retconned that “Phoenix” is a cosmic force that can possess people because the writers didn’t know how to bring Jean back to life after she died and have her not be responsible for galactic genocide.

I like that in the original cartoon, Cable was dismissive of Scott and Jean, and was not emotionally impacted by either of them, and in this episode it’s retroactively explained it’s because he knows Jean is not his mother. And he actively mourns Maddie, looking down and telling Jean (and himself) that “you’re not her” - referring to Jean.
I hope they further explore his failed attempt to warn her. That must have been a difficult thing to go through. Or is there possibly an alternate timeline where he was successful? Hmm...His going back and forth is creating a lot of branches. Loki is busy as it is. Call the TVA! Deadpool? It's all connected!!!! Haha
While Maddie’s last moments were of her reuniting with her baby again, Cable’s had to relieve seeing his mother get killed time and time again. Poor guy.
I don’t think the show will do anything so contrived, cliché and cheesy as time travel to fix things. To do so would undermine the seriousness of the attack, undermine the writing and storytelling of the show, and undo Gambit’s heroic sacrifice.
There is no “happy ending” to this. It was a horrible tragedy that forever changed the X-Men comics. I’m certain the event will stick.

2:57 I don’t think Rogue keeps/kept Avalanche’s power, she just punch the ground. She only kept Ms. Marvel’s power because she held on longer than usual

Hate to say it but her aged voice acting is at times letting down the animation at moments though.
Gambit is totally coming back as Death one of Apocalypse Horsemen
I think this parallel with bible real funny, since the Horsemen on bible's Revelations aren't real people, entities or beeings. They're just rhetorical symbols representing christians eras through the past.
There’s definitely a lot of foreshadowing to this, but I don’t have a whole lot of trust in Disney-Marvel to do right by fan beloved characters…so my hopes are below the toilet. They would totally use Remy as a storyline scapegoat and then just trash him. 😑
He's definitely coming back. I mean he's still in the end credits!
If Sinister is known to still be doing things to go against Apocalypse and Gambit was killed in the process, they’ll definitely come back.

Rogue is the only one who had the right idea. It's nice to see her go back to her old roots as a villain, and this time she is doing the wrong thing for the right reasons.
I'm thinking Jean Grey can now wear her hair down as an Easter Egg indicating that Madelyne Pryor is in fact dead
Or maybe right before the attack she and Jean were involuntarily linking their powers and memories. Kind of like how flash can’t be fully in tune with the speed force if Thawne is siphoning its powers too, Jean can reach her full potential without the Phoenix since all of Madelyn is now a part of Jean?
Just keeps getting better and better!! Once I saw OZT immediately knew it was Operation Zero Tolerance and mystery figure being Bastian as many speculated. Rogue willing to kill😱…can’t wait for the 3 parter
She wasnt using Avalanche's powers. That was a flashback. She never retained his abilities. She just used her own strength (a la like the Hulk) to slam the ground.
Noticed Roxxon Corporation, Hammer Industries, and Stark Industries as the continuity to Marvel Animated Universe is happening. Then the easter egg to X-Men: TAS's debut to 1992 was a nice touch.
Bro the team behind the show deserves a major marvel movie, they understand what we want
I'm kinda worried since they fired the showrunner a few days before the premiere but not until he was already finished with season 2 and working on season 3, I hope that doesn't mean anything changes after the next season and the writing stays this strong.
Time to bring back Spider-Man ‘94, Iron Man ‘96, and Hulk ‘97, and fantastic Four 96...THE OG MCU!!!!
Though X-men does explain how A) captain America is out of the doomsday weapon and B) why does general Ross still have his rank of general and is not in prison. In the hulk cartoon Ross was exposed by Bruce, Betty, Rick Jones, and She Hulk as a hulk obsessed loon and was stripped of rank and locked up [probably in a prison he made for the hulk]
I love how Emma reached out telepathically while in her diamond form. 😅
The show so far has made some really great changes and modifications to characters and stories while adapting them. I’m cool with allowing that “mistake.” But I get what you mean.
I hope that is a modification, not an error. It'd be a huge improvement.

It may even be simply that Jean was able to sense a psychic feedback from Emma like she did from the people that died, rather than it being Emma herself using telepathy.
And how Morph mimics Quicksilver’s speed. It was still a dope episode tho

I feel like Jean is wearing her hair down now in an attempt to get Cyclops to feel more comfortable with her. Considering how conflicted he is between Jean and Madelene, maybe she’s trying to lessen the immense tension that he’s under right now. I probably worded that terribly, but awesome breakdown as usual!

A Storm is coming on the horizon and for that, the X-men are now getting prepared with the return of two of their most powerful members.
In general, I love that every character is getting the protagonism they deserve, You don't feel like anyone is forgotten in the shadows. The Beauty of the show increases constantly giving us Moments to remind.
This show is actually surprinsing me every day, it gets better and better, and it promises to take us to another level. We will be waiting for.
As a kid I used to enjoy the show in a lower level because i couldnt get the whole meaning of the story, now, as a young adult I think I'm ready to appreciate the complexity of the comic.
This show is Bruce Timm and Paul Dini level of writing!!! Haven’t been into a cartoon since Batman the animated series and all it’s incarnations.
I agree, they understand how to blend human politics seamlessly into a world full of aliens, robots, and superpowered people, and rather than shying away from the politics, they steer into it incorporating it into the plot and use it to drive the characters and their arcs forward. I love it!
THIS! This is what we want. a mature cartoon that be enjoyed by children as well, like the old days. it doesnt need to be unnecesarily bloody or edgy but it need to have stakes and powerful drama. this is genuinely one of the best thing that Marvel has done, if they can stick the finale, hopefully

I feel like they're going to change his origin to justify Onslaught's inclusion, it would make sense that Bastion would want to use the psychic combination as a weapon against both mutants. Very symbolic.
Onslaught is one of the biggest characters from the 90's they haven't covered yet, and seeing as they're remixing stories from 1995-2005 or so, I could see them doing this.
Also I'm 100% sure they're going to change the team lineup to something more akin to the New X-Men or Astonishing X-Men team line-up (with a few changes).
@@BetaBreaking One thing I really wondered about... we apparently saw Mercy LeBeau in the funeral scene... she wasn't in TAS at all... and I'm curious why she's here now.... It could just be she's decoration... since that's all she did in the comics, but it's notable that she's there.

I'm loving how Jean just casually yeeted half a skyscraper across an entire city without breaking a sweat. I hope they keep her power at that same level for the rest of the series.

Theo James makes his debut as the voice of Bastion with that convincing American accent.
He sounded so good and smooth, voice almost reminded me of Jeff Goldblum at times

More in line with Vega from Reservoir Dogs. Even the music and razor were there
Morph can take on the superhuman *physical* powers of the people they morph into. Super speed is a physical power. They wouldn't be able to shoot optic blasts if they turned into Cyclops or control the weather if they turned into Storm.
Also, Onslaught is not a sentinel. He's a sentient psionic entity created from the consciousness of Magneto and Professor X. Magneto's anger, grief, and lust for vengeance had entered Professor Xavier's consciousness; commingling with every long-suppressed negative feeling the professor had endured throughout his life that resulted in a separate personality forming within Professor Xavier.
No one’s talking about how plot breaking Morph is now. If Morph is on the scene he’s OP but they won’t use that because of how show breaking it would be.
This show just gets better. The best thing marvel has done in awhile and they need to put these show runners in charge of the live action x men
When Rogue called Gambit her man...💔
16:00 same. Sinister hates apocalpyse and constantly fights/betrays him but its always a stalemate, I want to see apocalpyse vs bastion/nimrod vs magneto vs sinister vs charles vs onslaught vs gladiator. I knew Magneto survived hes too important to the story.
This show just keeps getting better and better! What an episode! "Bright Eyes" as an episode was fantastic, but now I'm super excited to see how this story continues going into the three-part finale! This finale arc for season one is titled "Tolerance is Extinction." I'm SO damn hyped for this ending to season one because the creative team said this is the BEST part of season 1, and this show has already been masterful so I just can't wait to dive head first into this three-part finale! Rogue was obviously a highlight this episode along with Cyclops and his interactions with the rest of the team after what happened in Genosha. Seeing the X-Men family so broken after the death of Gambit is some really powerful emotional stuff. Especially everything with Rouge. My heart aches for her because she's lost so much at this point. Her old family, her loves, her dreams, and her stability now that the X-Men are also emotionally destroyed. That scene where they comforted Rogue in Mexico genuinely made me tear up. I love this family. This is why the X-Men is my favorite comic book team. This show is just incredible because it knows how to convey everything the team/the world is feeling perfectly through our favorite characters. This is just incredible writing with this character work in this incredible show! This is Marvel at its absolute best! 9/10 episode this week! With another banger X-Men 97 episode and the Deadpool and the trailer, I think it's safe to say that it's been an awesome week for X-Men fans!

Rogue running wild and beating up the military, f*cking around with Cap and dropping a man to his death is totally in character for Rogue. People forget Rogue was originally a _bad_ guy.
Hopefully in the MCU, her on-screen debut will coincide with permanently taking Brie Larson out of the franchise. If you know, you know.

Bastion can't make Onslaught. It pretty much already exists in Xavier's subconscious.

It's wild how are you completely glossed over the conversation that Beast had with Trish. It's not just them blossoming romance. He goes into detail on his thoughts on protest as necessary, how her words of respectability politics and not causing the humans to fear is seen by Beast as tacit agreement that humans would never be accepted, only tolerated, which again thematically leads into the three part finally. It even may have given some characterization to Beast growing a little dark and jaded like Cyclops is. So yea thematically that was a very important convo that you sorta just handwaved, lol
Rogue smashing the ground had to do with her strength. She never permanently absorbed Avalanches powers. Also, her and Captain America were on the Uncanny Avengers together which they hinted at a lot in their conversation. Seems like we’re going towards Zero Tolerance more than Messiah Complex

Cyclops was talking to President Kelly. Amelia and Trish were voiced by the same actress. Savage Land mutates were helping who happened to work for Sinister in the original series. Like Barbarus not Forearm. You also see Brainchild. Captain America was voiced by Josh Keaton who voiced Steve Rodgers in What If. Are we sure is is Pixie and not Angel Salvadore, just looking at her skin color, Pixie does not have a normal human skin tone. Emma Frost secondary mutation show up.

Sometimes it feels like this guy doesn’t know anything about the lore, and either has people give him notes to read out, or just does a google search of things, to try to repeat info he doesn’t know - and therefore gets wrong.
Also: we don’t talk about Onslaught. For the professor’s sake.

Two easter eggs you may have missed is that Beast loosing hope in humans and being angry at their treatment is a trait of the much more cruel and sardonic comic book Beast prolly hinting at a personality change arc
Also in Madripoor you can hear Trask's recording hinting at Sentinels eventual turn on humans claiming"Asimovs laws are a limitation that they won't put Sentinels through"

This episode was a prime example why Gambit N Rogue remain my favorite X-Men! Nightcrawler was bloody brilliant in this and Sinister will always be my #1 villain. Long live, Remy LeBeau!
Also, Rogue tearing up the ground is not her having Avalanche's powers. She's JUST that strong from Carol's powers.
The writing for this show is nothing less than exceptional. That eulogy by Nightcrawler was deep but also very clever. Well done guys. The only problem i have with this show is that it ends. The anticipation each week is driving me nuts!

Daffy Duck, sarcastically, called Elmer Fudd “Nimrod”, the great hunter, in the cartoons. That, and other less well known references, is why the name is an insult in some western cultures.
“Nimrod was described as a king in the land of Shinar (Lower Mesopotamia). The Bible states that he was "a mighty hunter before the Lord [and] ... began to be mighty in the earth".[2] Later extra-biblical traditions identified Nimrod as the ruler who commissioned the construction of the Tower of Babel or Jacob's Ladder based on the Biblical dream of Jacob in Genesis 28:11-19, which led to his reputation as a king who was rebellious against God.”
That cable scene hit home and help make sense why he never really f$&@ with Jean smh

They killed gambit so they can push the rogue and gambit thing. Killed off my favourite character who has been the mvp of the season for nothing. I knew magneto was still alive and his going to go back to his villain era which we have seen 100 times. Gambit is a badass and they killed him off for nothing.

* Psylocke - telekinetic constructs & telepathy
* Callisto - superspeed & X-factor detection

Small correction, secondary mutations were first mentioned in the comic book Excalibur to explain why Nightcrawler had more than one power

Yeah Rogue didn’t keep avalanches powers to the point she can tap into them anytime she wants. That was just her strength she stole from ms marvel.

You know since she already took Carol Danvers's powers in the original show, they better follow the comics and make Carol regain her powers to become stronger than before and takes her new name Binary.

8:47, the four-armed guy is Barbarus, one of the Savage Land Mutates. We saw other Mutates like Brainchild and Amphibius (and possibly Lupo, the one with the pointed ears helping Amphibius with the stretcher) earlier at 6:43, while Calvin Rankin aka Mimic is in the background.

We should be on the verge of Operation Zero Tolerance story which Bastion was the main bad guy for. To get to Messiah Complex they will have to introduce the Avengers and have Scarlet Witch destroy them so she will wind up in Xavier and Magneto's care. Then Messiah Complex is just the search for baby Hope Summers. Its literally a fight between the Xmen, Marauders and the Purifiers that will probably be replaced with the Friends of Humanity for this show. Bastion was the main villain of 2nd coming, which was the follow up to Messiah Complex when Hope and Cable finally returned to the present. Onslaught was a psychic being created when Xavier mind wiped Magneto and absorbed part of his consciousness which happened on Asteroid M and would have happened during the initial Fabien Cortez 2 parter in the original series.

IMO.......bringing back the xmen a bit darker than in the 90s was a FANTASTIC idea for Disney/marvel to do. This season has been absolutely amazing so far and im excited to see the direction the show goes in

The whole Purple People eater of it all was a surprise, but a welcome one. Rogue was straight-up boss in this episode. Loved seeing that she was willing to kill Trask and didn't take any shit from Cap. When she threw his shield, I cheered out loud, lol. This show just keeps getting better and better. Oh, and POTUS talking to Cyclops about "optics" was just spot on.
The shot of Madelyn you saw was not her, that was Dazzler. Dazzler has red hair and the triangle earrings.
